Mountain Lion Crashes on resume from sleep

Is anyone else having problems with Mountain Lion crashing frequently on resume from sleep?  I have tried using both the default "sleep and hibernate" mode and switching to hibernate only.  In both modes, OSX "gray" screens just after it appears to finish resuming from sleep mode.  This is an Early 2011 MBP 15" with a clean Lion upgraded to Mountain Lion.
It is starting to look like another failed upgrade, "sigh". I haven't had any luck with OSX OS upgades and always seems like I end up rebuilding.

Same happening here. I also have a problem with Mail.app crashing when I close the window with cmd+w. My upgrade to Mountain Lion was applied Lion that had been migrated from my old MacBook.
The migrated setup was working fine for just over a week before I upgraded to Mountain Lion. Unfortunately I didn't check that Time Machine was backing up my machine and it turns out I don't have that as an option of rolling back to Lion.
Hoping that a fix is found to both problems. Fairly confident given that other people are reporting the same, even on a clean upgrade.

  • Mac Os X Lion Crashes after resuming from Sleep

Hi Everybody, i'm experiencing an issue on my 13'' MBP Early 2011 (i5 processor, 4GB RAM, 750GB HD SATA). My MBP often got stuc after i resume from my monitor sleep. I'll explain it in a better way: After i resume from sleep, there's at first a black screen in which the mouse can move, after that the mouse becmes the classic loading wheel and it freezes copletely, remaining in this situation. I thought it was a screensaver compatibility issue, but the problem stand still after i uninstalled screensaver and deactivate the screensaver options. I think it's a problem with Lion with the HD, but i have no evidence of it. Can Anyone help?
    Thank you in advance,
    Daniele.

Whenever someone comes to me with crashing and freezing on waking up I look at 3 things and typically in this order:
    (1) Hard drive - usually if it is the hard drive SMART has already given a warning if the drive is actually failing or running Disk Utility reveals problems - often problems that cannot be fixed. Also, when the crashes are related to the hard drive there may actuallly be nothing wrong with the drive and a simple erase and reinstall will fix it.
    (2) Software issues - the old trick of creating a new account and logging into it to see if the problem is in your account or global helps. Looking in console to see if there's an error message logged just before the crash can be instructive - or not. Often the crash occurs before an error is logged. Sometimes reinstalling the OS is the solution - that's where having a FireWire hard drive is helpful. I can just boot with it and see if the computer still crashes on waking. If not I know to reinstall the OS.
    (3) RAM - marginal and faulty RAM can be the culprit in many cases. The frustrating thing about RAM is that RAM tests seldom give false positives, if the test says you have bad RAM, you do. Unfortunately when the test reveals nothing wrong the RAM might still be defective, just not enough for the test to catch.
However, past history has led me to put RAM at the top of the list after an OS upgrade. Marginal RAM has been the culprit of many crash on wake problems with previous OS upgrades. I especially recall Leopard and Snow Leopard being affected - at the shop where I sometimes work we did a lot of RAM warranty replacements after those two upgrades. And here at the support forum we saw lots of people complaining of crash on wake problems coming back and saying, "Yep, got my RAM replaced and all is well." So if any of you are like me and upgraded your RAM, if you have the original RAM sitting around swap it in and see if the crashes stop.

  • My Mountain Lion mac crashes after resuming from sleep

    Hello
My Mountain Lion mac crashes after resuming from sleep every time I use it
It happens every time the mac resumes from sleep and it started like a week ago
I remember installing the new updates for flash? and xquartz and nothing else.
I have also had microsoft word installed on my mac for about 1 weeks before this problem started so might be related to that
Please share with me any tips on how to fix this because I am really annoyed of losing stuff after each time my mac resumes from sleep

I have an iMac bought may -11, and it worked fine with Snow Leopard.
About a week ago I bought and installed Mountain Lion 10.8.2. Everything went fine, and all software worked ok. iPhoto had some problems, but after installing update the system prompted to do, it has worked ok.
The propblem occurs now and then, when computer is waked up from sleep. The Desktop occurs, but no software starts, not even System Tools untlil rebooting the computer. Of course, I can not reboot the computer from "Apple menu", but holding the power button down.
This is very embarassing! OsX Mountain Lion has turned out to be a very big disappointment. I installed id because of iCloud (i have a new iPad, too with iOs 6 installed).
Can anyone help me? Is there any other way to solve the problem than re-installing good old Snow Leopard?
I would not like to do that, I bought Mac because I was bored in re-installing and recovering!
    Thank you

  • If I pause the download of Mountain lion the download resumes from the beginning...how can I resume the download from where I have paused?

f I pause the download of Mountain lion the download resumes from the beginning...how can I resume the download from where I have paused? can anyone please help??

Thanks for your prompt reply...but is there no solution to it...since the file download is almost 4.34gb..its a long download..internet is bound to go down for a while in such a long download..and whenever the net goes down for a minute or two I pause the download and restart..but everytime I restart it starts from the beginning...i believe for the earlier version i.e. Lion pause function was enabled and download used to begin from I have paused...I then successfully downloaded lion on the same internet network I now use at my home..Please help if you can or ne1 can..Many Thanks!!!

  • Laptop Crashes when resuming from sleep

    Hi
I am running a Macbook Pro with retina display. OS X 10.8.3 - Mountain Lion.
      Model Name:          MacBook Pro
      Model Identifier:          MacBookPro10,1
      Processor Name:          Intel Core i7
      Processor Speed:          2,3 GHz
      Number of Processors:          1
      Total Number of Cores:          4
L2 Cache (per Core):          256 KB
      L3 Cache:          6 MB
      Memory:          8 GB
Peripherals: Magic Mouse, Thunderbolt to gigabyte Ethernet connector
I use this machine while connecting to a network using an Ethernet cable at work. During the day, I leave the machine and it automatically goes to sleep and when I resume from sleep there does not seem to be any problems.
The problem is when I put the machine off to sleep before going home, and then when I resume the next day; the system crashes.
I have been searching high and dry for a solution. Some forums talk about the OS' bluetooth management having a bug, others talk about network unable to reconnect and even read something that talks about a wifi issue.
I cant pin point the root cause of the problem nor do I have a workaround. I have to shutdown every night.
It seems that this problem has been around for a while and it scares me that Apple has not released a fix for this issue.
What should I do to resolve this issue?

  • Crashes when resuming from sleep.

I just bought my macbook 6 days ago. Occasionally, upon opening the macbook it will not be resuming from sleep but the OS will actually be rebooting itself. This happens very infrequently. In the 6 days I've been using it (and I've been using it a lot) I've only noticed this happening twice. Though this is my first Mac, I am by no means a computer novice and I'm sure I'm not shutting down the OS, especially since I didn't have to press the power button to turn it back on. Is this something I should be concerned about? Or is it just one of those rare quirks I have to live with? Any input is appreciated. Thanks!
MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Custom-Built PC (WinXP)
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   2.0Ghz Core 2 duo, OSX 10.4.8, 80GB HD

It really shouldn't reeboot from scratch when just waking from sleep!
The only time it would, is if the battery power drained completely before re-charge (even while sleeping), or if it was actually shut down purposely/accidently.
Quick question: assume you are just closing your macbook to put to sleep? Not pressing pressing power button or selcting sleep in the finder? Although you can use both the latter, they do offer opportunity to shut down 'accidently'.
Only other though; Check the following: "System Preferences"/Energy Saver/Sleep-Schedule (=button bottom right) , here you can set scheduled start up and wake options... by default they would not be activated.
If all above is as suggested then I suspect a problem.

  • Macbook Retina with Mountain Lion issues after waking from sleep.

Macbook Retina with Mountain Lion has the spinning beach ball of death after waking from sleep a few times. Anyone else seeing this?  A fresh boot is very quick, but waking from sleep lags at times.  Then after a few times the spinning beachball of death appears and nothing is responsive making me reboot the machine.

I've been suffering from this too, and am currently trying this:
    http://www.ewal.net/2012/09/09/slow-wake-for-macbook-pro-retina/
Seems to be tied to this 'Power Nap' feature.  I tuned it for 12 hours instead of 24.

  • Jump Desktop on Mountain Lion - Won't wake from sleep

Installed Mountain Lion. Now it will not wake from sleep when connecting from my iPhone 4 or new iPad when connecting via Jump Desktop. Screen sharing is turned on and gmail account and password are all correct. No problem connecting as long as my MacBook Pro is awake. With Lion, there was no problem waking from sleep when connecting. Anyone have the same problem -- or a solution?

Had the same problem, as a work around tick the
'prevent computer from sleeping automatically when the display is off'
    button in power settings
Although not in sleep, it means the screen is off but still can be controlled remotely
    worked for me

  • T61p Graphics Driver crash on Resume from sleep, intermittent BSOD

    I have a T61p type 6458-BS9 with S/N L3-xxxxx, built August 2008.BIOS version is 2.21
Every time the PC wakes up from sleep, I get a message that the graphics driver has "succesfully recovered" (i.e. it crashed). One out of every three times, the PC wakes up, but the screen stays black and I have to forcefully reboot the PC. At regular intervals, I also have a BSOD referring to the same NVidia driver.
The driver installed is the latest version on the website, 175.97 which dates back to June.
I don't play games, so the other "resolved" issue on this thread does not seem to apply.
Does anybody know how resolve this issue?

    Hi,
I too have exactly the same problem with display corruption after waking from sleep (X200 7454-CTO - windows 7 X64). I have disabled the intel VT extensions in the BIOS but the problem still occurs.
I have now installed the latest display driver from intel's site (8.15.10.1986) to avoid using the Lenovo 1968 packaged driver. This means I have lost the on-screen brightness display functionality but I can live without that. I will let you know if I have more problems using this driver.
I assume this problem will get fixed at some point as presumabley those customers who ordered X200's with windows 7 preinstalled will be having the same problems?
    Regards,
    Martin

  • Why is Mountain Lion requiring login twice from sleep?

I am running Mountain Lion (10.8.2) on an Early 2011 MacBook Pro. I have it set to require a password when left too long or asleep.
Frequently, after I enter my password and get logged in, it bumps me back to the login page after about 5 seconds. I'm able to work for those few seconds, but then everything goes back to the locked out screen. After I enter my password a second time, it always works. The work I did in those few seconds is still on the screen (new pages, text typed, etc).
This started happening after the upgrade to 10.8.
    Thanks,
    J

I've been running into this error as well, no external display, but I'm running an MBP 4,1 17in.
I've chalked this up to old preferences that weren't properly updated, the screen lock was automatically enabled by mountain lion, wheras prior to install, my 10.7 install did not have this enabled.
I haven't had a chance to check this with a fresh install yet.

  • Mountain Lion won't wake from sleep

I have an early 2011 MBP with 10.8 loaded. My laptop went to sleep and won't wake up. Are there shortcuts that may wake it or is the only thing to do is hold the power button?  Is there a fix to this? It isn't power nap as I have a HDD.

    Hi,
    Please perform an SMC reset.
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option(ALT) keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

  • Windows explorer + other windows applications crashing regularly at resume from sleep and hibernate

    Good evening,
I have a Thinkpad W510 (4319-29G) running Windows 7 Pro 64bit. The system is loaded with the latest software and drives from Lenovo including BIOS 6NET74WW (1.34), upgrade was done Dec 7th (windows update performed Dec 15th).
    The machine has
    - 8Gb RAM
    - nVidia Quadro FX880M, driver version is 8.17.12.5896, 7-9-2010 and video card BIOS is 70.16.5f.0.b
    - dual harddrives,
       - one Seagate Momentus XT 500Gb (ST95005620AS) FW rev SD23 in the main location with C: and some other partitions
       - one Hitatchi 320 Gb (HTS723232L9SA60) FW rev FC4ZC50B in the bay.
    - Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200 AGN, driver version 13.3.0.24, 7-14-2010
    - Intel 82577LM Gigabit Network Connection, driver version 11.5.10.1030, 7-22-2010
Recently I have experienced crashes of multiple windows components at resume from sleep and hibernate.
It seems to happen when swithing location (from work to home) and thus switching from docking station with wired network connection to no dock and wireless network connection (dont know if this has any bearing but anyway).
In the event viewer I typically have some 6-12 application errors logged. Sample output from event viewer is:

    Keywords: Classic

It seems that a module "nview64.dll" is always the first application to crash. I suspect this has something with graphics to do.
I dont know if this event triggers the following crashes or if it is so that the display is initialized before the other programs.
After all crash diagnostic messages have been shown windows explorer restarts and also other applications restart but a lot of system tools in the system tray are gone so a cold start is needed to restore all tools again.
I really would appreciate any help and suggestions how to fix this really annoying issue.
    Thanks, Anton

I had a similar issue, as soon as a described even a little bit of it to warrenty support they sent someone to swap the board
It seems thats the only fix, its been fine since

    Hi,
I upgraded to mountain lion a month or so ago and ever since my MBP often crashes after waking from sleep.  I've included the error report below. Any help would be appreciated.  After it restarts, it works fine.  Problem consistently happens after waking from sleep.

Back up all data, then uninstall the Razer and Blackberry software according to the developers' instructions. Reboot and test. Most likely there will be no change. In that case, see below:

  • T60 Type 2623 Blue Screen on Resume from Sleep Mode problem solved - XP Pro

I hope that this post ends some frustrations for some people.
I hope that IBM deals with this issue by getting ATI to fix the video driver issue.
After three months of tracking down blue screens when resuming from Sleep Mode and some lockups while working, I have identified the problem on my T60 Type 2623 running Windows XP-Pro and all service packs and updates.  The Sleep Mode resume issues were intermittant and it would be fine for a day or two and then reboot on Resume or reboot every time I used Resume for a while.  For months the Blue Screen would reboot and attempt to send the message to Microsoft using the logs, but the logs were always corrupted.  I disabled every driver that I could and the problem continued for months.
The problem solution came about when I decided to try my Rhapsody Music account after many months of not using it.  I kept getting a message about DRM (Digital Right Management) being disabled and Rhapsody software could not self-fix this.  So I finally called Rhapsody and they spent over an hour with me trying to get Rhapsody to work.  The support person asked me about my computer and I noted that it was an IBM T60.  He then asked about my Video Card and I responded that it was an ATI Mobility Radeon X1300.  After a few minutes on hold he asked about my driver version which was 8.442.3-080103a1-057754C the set from January 31, 2008.  He noted that there is a known problem wit the 8.4 driver and it interferes with DRM.  He had me go to control panel Settings and Hardware and then roll-back the driver to the prior version.
After a reboot, the DRM issue was solved and I soon discovered that my resume from Sleep mode no longer crashed.  In fact it has been fine and crash free for over a month now.  I have noted that the older driver can sometimes resize my screen to something like 600 X 800 if I close the lid under certain circumstances, but that is just a function key reset to get my normal desktop resolution back.  At least it is not a blue screen reboot with a corrupted log file.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Unfortunately I could not fix the problem so I wiped my system and loaded all new drivers before I found this posting.
Is there a way to get the old ATI driver that works? The only one available on the ATI and Lenovo website is the latest one with the problem. I agree with you David, Lenovo should have fixed this problem already with ATI.
