Mountain Lion doesn't appear in Applications folder

Hello guys,
I hope one of you have come accross same problem and will be able to help.
I purchased Mountain Lion yesterday and already downloaded it via Apple Store, but I cannot locate it on my local hard drive within Applications folder. The installer for Mountain Lion appears however in my Launchpad instead and when I click on it (through Launchpad, Install OS X Mountain Lion window appears ready to install). I don't want to upgrade my existing Lion to Mountain Lion, I want to make a fresh install, after formatting my internal hard drive, but to do so, I would like to save the installer on external hard drive or memory stick, but simply can't locate it.
Please let me know location of downloaded file for Mountain Lion on my local hard drive.
Thank you in advance.

Hey putnik,
The download has finished, because right after the Install OS X Mountain Lion window appears ready to install it onto my local hard drive.
Now, when I go to Apple Store, it asks me to pay for it again. 30 mins ago, I still had status saying: INSTALLED, yesterday I remember status of: DOWNLOADED. It simply makes no sense! Why paying again for something I have already paid for?

It is downloaded. I can see it in Launchpad, when I click on it will open en start the installation, but that's not what I want, I want to have the program in the application folder. I hope someone knows how?

Click the installer in Launchbar so it opens, don't proceed with the installation!
Look in your Dock for the installers Application icon.
Command+Click this icon in the Dock
A Finder window should appear with the installer selected, you can 'Get Info' on that item to see the full file path to work out where it is, or enable the 'Path bar' in Finder's view menu, that also shows the folder path to the selected item.

Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Reinstalling Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

    1. Make a backup, open App Store and purchase Mountain Lion. When its download finishes, close the installer and open Lion Diskmaker to create a bootable USB drive with Mountain Lion.
    2. Press Option key while your Mac is starting, select the external drive and open Disk Utility.
    3. Select Macintosh HD in the sidebar and erase the drive.
    4. Close the window and install Mountain Lion

Here is a recent post I assembled for a similar question:
Unfortunately you got caught up in the minor miracle of Rosetta.  Originally licensed by Apple when it migrated from the PowerPC CPU platform that it had used from the mid-1990's until the Intel CPU platform in 2006, Rosetta allowed Mac users to continue to use their library of PPC software transparently in emulation.
However, Apple's license to continue to use this technology expired with new releases of OS X commencing with Lion (and now Mountain Lion).  While educational efforts have been made over the last 6 years, the fact is that Rosetta was SO successful that many users were caught unaware UNTIL they upgraded to Lion or Mountain Lion.
    Workarounds:
    1. If your Mac will support it, restore OS X Snow Leopard;
    2.  If your Mac will support it, partition your hard drive or add an external hard drive and install Snow Leopard into it and use the "dual-boot" method to choose between your PowerPC software or Lion/Mt. Lion;
    3.  Upgrade your software to Intel compatible versions if they are available, or find alternative software that will open, modify and save your data files;
    3.  Install Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) into Parallels:

I have tried resetting my Mac's PRAM but the problem still remains.
Even USB memory sticks are unmounted efter a few seconds.
Anybody else with this major problem?

I have the same problem, although mine has not been solved by ESET update, finder settings, PRAM & SMC resets or anything else.
Don't get it, my external hard drive still works on both my housemates computers - one macbook pro (with snow leopard) and one dell, just not on mine with mountain lion.
    Any ideas for me guys?

It is supposed to be dark.
Is it all videos that don't display or just some. You may have installed something like Perian or Flip for Mac that translates the video codecs for Quicktime. They may need updating.

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Select the messages logged before the boot, while the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Preview in Mountain Lion Doesn't Like Spot Colors

I upgraded to Moutnain Lion and CS6 at the same time, and one thing I've noticed is that Mac's preview doesn't seem to dig on spot colors. Has anyone else noticed this? It seems to be the case with .ai and PDFs. Not a huge deal; when you open the files, the spot colors display properly, but when you view the files within a folder through Finder, click "space" to preview, or view the file as an attachment within Mail, anything with a spot color previews as solid black, which makes the file appear as if something is "off".
My biggest concern with this is if I'm sending a PDF to a client, and they only view it within their Mail app, will it view properly for them? Not knowing the answer, I've taken to converting all of my spot colors to CMYK before I save the proof file, and this way they display properly within Mac's various previews. Just wondering if everyone using Mountain Lion/CS6 are having this issue, or if mine is somehow an isolated case.

I'm having the same problem. When I open the Acrobat Files, the color looks fine. When I look at a PDF with spot colors in Preview Mode, in a Window Column View, or as an email attachment, I see SOME of the spot colors showing up as black, but not all of them. It seems to depend on the particular Spot Color.

  • Application does not appear in applications folder

On OS X Mountain Lion, there is an application (not from the Mac App Store) that does not appear in my applications folder, but it DOES appear in Launchpad and I would like to delete it. How can I remove it? Since it is not from the Mac App Store, I cannot click the "x" or drag it to the trash.

Where is the application located if not in the Applications folder? You can use Spotlight to find it. When you do just drag it to the Trash.

  • Mountain Lion doesn't display Finder preview icons for .ARW files? (RAW pictures taken with SONY cameras)

This is something that I find rather ridiculous, and have a hard time believing no-one at Apple has addressed yet.
Basically the problem is that neither Mountain Lion nor Lion show Finder thumbnail preview images for pictures that are taken with SONY digital cameras.
This is something that Snow Leopard, as well as multiple earlier iterations of OS X used to do without any problem. The professional photographer community who uses SONY professional DSLR cameras is up in arms about this. And we've all been crossing our fingers that perhaps the Mac OS X 10.7.1, 10.7.2, 10.7.3, 10.7.4, or possibly the 10.8 update would fix this issue for us.
Several of us have filed bug reports over the past year or two. See this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3213982?tstart=0
This is a flaw in Apple's operating system. Especially considering that there are supposedly 200+ "new features" which were just released in Mountain Lion.
Those of us who work with SONY cameras every day would probably have paid the $19.99 upgrade price for just one "feature". And not even a new one. An old one. The ability to see our pictures in the Finder. Pretty basic stuff.
Hopefully someone fixes this for us with the release of Mac OS X 10.8.1
    Please. And thank you.

I can see image icons for all my pre-MtLion images.  These are the folder images (Icons), and all the photo images (icons) on all my hard drives.  IE If I have a folder of 300 wedding pictures, they all show the picture image above the file name in the icon view.  So if I want to open a picture of the "Flower Girl" I can see the image (icon) of the Flower Girl.  Without the image showing all I see is the filename...  Smith-212.tif.  Now with Mt. Lion I CAN'T see any IMAGES (ICONS) on any of the 300 photos.  Just the file names in all the different views.... Icon View, List VIew, etc.  If I have a Folder with 23 more folders inside, they don't even show up either.  I saw a step by step process of selecting the file and right clicking on it and opening it in Preview, then doing a copy and then pasting it on the original image in tghe get info window.  WHAT A PURE PAIN TO HAVE TO DO THIS TO 170,375 IMAGES.
The other issue I have is that 93.5 % of the remaining icons that do exist on my system is that those 93.5 % are so pixelated they appear as a hugh checkerboard viewed through two inch thick glasses..... not for drinking, but the kinda glasses used by a blind man.  IE the remaining icons are so PIXELATED it is almost impossible to tell what they  are.
BEN WELLAND...... What did you do to get this point?
Thank you, thank you, thank you, to whomever at Apple finally fixed this.
After updating to Mountain Lion 10.8.2, SONY .ARW files (and I'm assuming Pentax .PEF files too) now render proper thumbnail icons in the Finder in list view, icon view, coverflow view, and columns view.
Since this is now a recognized bug, I'm guessing that the free update to Lion (10.7.5) that Apple also just released yesterday (September 19th, 2012) will probably fix this issue too.
    Hooray!
I have OS 10.8.2  and nothing has changed as far as being able to see photos / folders as image icons...
    rendered  proper thumbnail icons.
I have thousands of photo files that show nothing other that the file names.
The only way I can even see the file is to open it in Photoshop, or open the folder in Bridge. Even then after I open it in PS CS6, and save it again. It still is a "Empty" file...... no render proper thumbnail.

    Any help will be appreciated.

  • Podcasts doesn't appear in Podcast Folder

I subscribe some podcast. Missing some episode I downloaded them manually. How to make them appear in PODCASTS Folder and not in MUSIC Folder  (iTunes 10.6.1/Lion 10.7.3)?

As far as I'm concerned, this is the only thing which could potentially turn me off to iStuff.
I've downloaded both an audio podcast and a video podcast.
Audio works fine but the "album artwork" doesn't appear in either iTunes on my desktop or on my iPhone.
The video podcast goes through the whole show of downloading and it even says "done." When I go to "Library>Podcasts" it shows that I've subscribed to the video podcast but but a double-click on the icon brings up a list of episodes, NONE of which are downloaded (even though it had just gone through the 5-10 minute download show).
Second only to the frustration of not being able to download any podcast simply and easily is the frustration at not being able to fin dthe answer on "Apple Support Community."
This is the kind of thing that turns me off to products; esp. electronics (spending hours trouble-shooting it yourself and then spending hours reading threads which don't quite fit your specific problem).
