Mountain Lion doesn't see exFat partition

Hi all,
I have just installed a 256GB M3 SSD into my Mac Mini which is running Mountain Lion and I used the original 1TB disk to install Bootcamp to run Windows 7.
I didn't want to use the whole HDD for Bootcamp but I didn't see any other choice during setup. So, once Bootcamp / Windows 7 wa sinstalled I looged into Windows and used Windows disk utility to shrink the Windows partition by half and created a second partition and formatted in exFat in the hope that this would leave me 500GB or so of storage which I could use when logged into either Mountain Lion or Windows.
However, while the partition scheme works perfectly in Windows when logged into ML I only see the original 1TB disk as bootcamp without the exFat partition I created.
How do I ho about fixing this so I can use part of the original HDD for bootcamp and also have a second partition which is visible to both Mac and Windows OS?

Yes it does. XP is using RAW Port 9100 to connect, which is called HP Jetdirect-Socket on OS X. Given that you have already tried creating a printer queue using HP Jetdirect and this did not work, there must be something else that you need to do.
It also sounds odd that the configuration page you printed does not show an IP address set in the printer. Does the Ethernet cable connect directly to the LJ1200, or is there some type of adaptor between the Ethernet and printer?

Hopefully somebody can shed some light here -- I have an HP LaserJet 1200 on my ethernet LAN. Have never had any problems setting it up to print using earlier versions of Mac OS or ever Windows -- however as fas as Mountain Lion is concerned the printer doesn't exist. I've downloaded and installed the latest drivers from HP, restarted machine, etc to no avail. Can anybody tell me what I need to do to make 10.8 see the printer across the room?

If your MacBook Pro had Snow Leopard on it at one time then sure. (Early 2011 or earlier)
How to erase and install Snow Leopard 10.6
Obviously choose the second partition to install into. It has to be OS X Extended journaled formatted in Disk Utility (BootCamp software makes it a MSDOS/FAT32 formatted partition if you used that to partition with)
If it's a Early 2011 or Late 2011 that came with 10.7, it's possible, but it's not easy.

After installing Mountain Lion doesn't external hard drives mount or stay mounted.
I have tried resetting my Mac's PRAM but the problem still remains.
Even USB memory sticks are unmounted efter a few seconds.
Anybody else with this major problem?

I have the same problem, although mine has not been solved by ESET update, finder settings, PRAM & SMC resets or anything else.
Don't get it, my external hard drive still works on both my housemates computers - one macbook pro (with snow leopard) and one dell, just not on mine with mountain lion.
    Any ideas for me guys?

  • Preview in Mountain Lion Doesn't Like Spot Colors

I upgraded to Moutnain Lion and CS6 at the same time, and one thing I've noticed is that Mac's preview doesn't seem to dig on spot colors. Has anyone else noticed this? It seems to be the case with .ai and PDFs. Not a huge deal; when you open the files, the spot colors display properly, but when you view the files within a folder through Finder, click "space" to preview, or view the file as an attachment within Mail, anything with a spot color previews as solid black, which makes the file appear as if something is "off".
My biggest concern with this is if I'm sending a PDF to a client, and they only view it within their Mail app, will it view properly for them? Not knowing the answer, I've taken to converting all of my spot colors to CMYK before I save the proof file, and this way they display properly within Mac's various previews. Just wondering if everyone using Mountain Lion/CS6 are having this issue, or if mine is somehow an isolated case.

I'm having the same problem. When I open the Acrobat Files, the color looks fine. When I look at a PDF with spot colors in Preview Mode, in a Window Column View, or as an email attachment, I see SOME of the spot colors showing up as black, but not all of them. It seems to depend on the particular Spot Color.

  • Mountain Lion installer boots into recovery partition

Strange thing: being a registered devloper I downloaded the OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2) installer and wanted to upgrade one of my Mac minis (which was running 10.7.5).
However, the aluminum mid-2010 Mac mini acts strange: I copied the installer onto a USB stick and burned it onto a DVD, too. Tried to install from both media but the Mac mini boots either into the Mountain Lion recovery partition (so that was somehow created) or the Setup assistant lacks entries in lists and always jumps to step 1 after step 3 or 4 in an endless loop.
Once -- when I wanted to select the 10.8.2 OS X as boot volume -- I got an error message that boot caches can't be created so I can't set this partition as boot partition.
I've got app. 100 GB free on the Mac minis hard disk.

I was afraid the Apple Store wasn't going to be an option.
Based on your previous post, I was under the impression you could download Mountain Lion, but when you installed it, it locked up again. Not true?
I don't know how to remove it. You can try contacting Apple support through the link below to see if they can help you get this unlocked.

  • Install mountain lion on a not GUID partition

I try to install osx mountain lion but i can't because it should be installed on a GUID partition. Mine is not as it should be, how could I format with GUID option if I have only one partition? Disk tool doesn't let me make other partition, how could I do?

You cannot install Mountain Lion on a partition other than GUID; an Intel-based Mac needs a GUID disk to boot. Is this disk you're trying to install to the one your computer is booted from now? If so, what model of Mac do you have and what version of Mac OS X? Only if your computer is a PowerPC-based system would it be able to boot from a non-GUID volume, and you can't run Mountain Lion on a PowerPC system, so I'm rather puzzled about your situation. Please provide more details.
    Regards.

  • Mountain lion doesn't start

I istalled Mountain Lion on my macbook pro 2008, the installation goes well, but after it, it never restarts. It stops with the wheel always rotating.
With snow leopard it works perfectly and I tried many text and it doesn't seem that there are some hardware problems.
    please, help me

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Select the messages logged before the boot, while the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Time machine backup from OSX 10.5 to Mountain lion doesn't want to recover.

    Hi!
I have just upgraded my iMac from 2007, from the original oreparting system (10.5?) to mountain lion.
I had read a lot about the problems with loosing files so I made a complete backup of the computer using time machine.
I then updated to snow leopard as a "from scratch" installment and then upgraded to mountain lion via the app store.
I therefore had a completely blank computer with only mountain lion installed.
When I now try to take my time machine backup that I did and install it straight over, then it says:
"The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to access “.localized”." or the same sentence but something else instead of localized.
Any tips on how I can try to sort this out?
    Thanks!
    Annika

  • Mountain Lion doesn't display Finder preview icons for .ARW files? (RAW pictures taken with SONY cameras)

This is something that I find rather ridiculous, and have a hard time believing no-one at Apple has addressed yet.
Basically the problem is that neither Mountain Lion nor Lion show Finder thumbnail preview images for pictures that are taken with SONY digital cameras.
This is something that Snow Leopard, as well as multiple earlier iterations of OS X used to do without any problem. The professional photographer community who uses SONY professional DSLR cameras is up in arms about this. And we've all been crossing our fingers that perhaps the Mac OS X 10.7.1, 10.7.2, 10.7.3, 10.7.4, or possibly the 10.8 update would fix this issue for us.
Several of us have filed bug reports over the past year or two. See this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3213982?tstart=0
This is a flaw in Apple's operating system. Especially considering that there are supposedly 200+ "new features" which were just released in Mountain Lion.
Those of us who work with SONY cameras every day would probably have paid the $19.99 upgrade price for just one "feature". And not even a new one. An old one. The ability to see our pictures in the Finder. Pretty basic stuff.
Hopefully someone fixes this for us with the release of Mac OS X 10.8.1
    Please. And thank you.

I can see image icons for all my pre-MtLion images.  These are the folder images (Icons), and all the photo images (icons) on all my hard drives.  IE If I have a folder of 300 wedding pictures, they all show the picture image above the file name in the icon view.  So if I want to open a picture of the "Flower Girl" I can see the image (icon) of the Flower Girl.  Without the image showing all I see is the filename...  Smith-212.tif.  Now with Mt. Lion I CAN'T see any IMAGES (ICONS) on any of the 300 photos.  Just the file names in all the different views.... Icon View, List VIew, etc.  If I have a Folder with 23 more folders inside, they don't even show up either.  I saw a step by step process of selecting the file and right clicking on it and opening it in Preview, then doing a copy and then pasting it on the original image in tghe get info window.  WHAT A PURE PAIN TO HAVE TO DO THIS TO 170,375 IMAGES.
The other issue I have is that 93.5 % of the remaining icons that do exist on my system is that those 93.5 % are so pixelated they appear as a hugh checkerboard viewed through two inch thick glasses..... not for drinking, but the kinda glasses used by a blind man.  IE the remaining icons are so PIXELATED it is almost impossible to tell what they  are.
BEN WELLAND...... What did you do to get this point?
Thank you, thank you, thank you, to whomever at Apple finally fixed this.
After updating to Mountain Lion 10.8.2, SONY .ARW files (and I'm assuming Pentax .PEF files too) now render proper thumbnail icons in the Finder in list view, icon view, coverflow view, and columns view.
Since this is now a recognized bug, I'm guessing that the free update to Lion (10.7.5) that Apple also just released yesterday (September 19th, 2012) will probably fix this issue too.
    Hooray!
I have OS 10.8.2  and nothing has changed as far as being able to see photos / folders as image icons...
    rendered  proper thumbnail icons.
I have thousands of photo files that show nothing other that the file names.
The only way I can even see the file is to open it in Photoshop, or open the folder in Bridge. Even then after I open it in PS CS6, and save it again. It still is a "Empty" file...... no render proper thumbnail.
    icons
    Any help will be appreciated.
