Mountain lion doesn't start

I istalled Mountain Lion on my macbook pro 2008, the installation goes well, but after it, it never restarts. It stops with the wheel always rotating.
With snow leopard it works perfectly and I tried many text and it doesn't seem that there are some hardware problems.
please, help me

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Select the messages logged before the boot, while the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Mountain Lion doesn't start, goes into terminal screen

Ever since I upgrades to Mountain Lion from Lion, my system doesn't start correctly.  When I boot it, the screen goes into terminal and stops there.  I usually have to give the command to exit and then command boot ant it starts up.  Other times I have to shut down from terminal and restart.  The apple support has not been help full at all.  They say do this, do that and then want to hang up without resolving the issue.  Can anyone help?

Well - I think we found the issue.  It looks to be when you power up the system and turn on the wireless keyboard as it boots up, it sends a signal that triggers single user mode.   This never happened with the previous Snow Leopard and Lion.  It looks like I should never turn off the keyboard or mouse.  They will automatically go to sleep mode after approximately 6 minutes of no system activity.  When you power the system, it will send a wake signal to the two devices.
Following this advise from 2nd level tech support has proven to be successful.
This is the end of this issue for me.  Thanks to all who gave me some options to try.

  • After installing Mountain Lion doesn't external hard drives mount or stay mounted. Anybody else with this major problem?

After installing Mountain Lion doesn't external hard drives mount or stay mounted.
I have tried resetting my Mac's PRAM but the problem still remains.
Even USB memory sticks are unmounted efter a few seconds.
Anybody else with this major problem?

I have the same problem, although mine has not been solved by ESET update, finder settings, PRAM & SMC resets or anything else.
Don't get it, my external hard drive still works on both my housemates computers - one macbook pro (with snow leopard) and one dell, just not on mine with mountain lion.
    Any ideas for me guys?

  • I loaded Mountain Lion and now my Canon Canoscan LIDE100 Scanner won't work. I reloaded the application, checked the driver & loaded the Canon driver for Mountain Lion. Aplication starts to load then hangs up on 80% complete.   Any suggestions?

I loaded Mountain Lion and now my Canon Canoscan LIDE100 Scanner won't work. I reloaded the application, checked the Cannon website for the correct driver & loaded the Canon driver for Mountain Lion. Aplication starts to load then hangs up on 80% complete.   Any suggestions?

Might have a hardware issue that was caused by the minor liquid spill.
Take it to Apple to have them look at it.  I think they do a free diagnostics.  That way you can find out what's wrong with your MB.
Good luck....Hope you get it sorted out.

    David,

    Gray screen appears during startup

  • Mail app in Mountain Lion doesn't check mails anymore

Right next to every mailbox there's the gray circle with the exclamation mark as if the accounts were offline. "Bring all accounts online" doesn't do anything at all, and neither does clicking on the exclamation mark. Quitting and reopening used to work for a while, now that stopped working. A restart of the computer seems to do the job, but I can't restart the machine everytime just to check mails... I tried deleting the preferences but doesn't do anything.
Really annoying, mail worked just fine before this Mountain Lion upgrade. I recently had my routher exchanged, I believe the problem startet when I put the macbook to sleep, turn of the router, and later when I come back and connect to the internet mail goes crazy.
Please anyones has any ideas before I'm going through the trouble of rebuilding the whole strucutre?
    Thanks a lot!
MacBook Pro i7, 10.8.2 with supplemental update

Could it be a possibility that this issue is somehow connected to my new router? I believe this problem started with the new router... So maybe there's a port issue or something?
    ***Edit***
Alright, so the problem seems to have been the router blocking port 993 which is used by the pop accounts. Look like it works fine now, it had to be added as an open port in the router configuration.

  • Mountain Lion won't start with 32-bit kernal

I'm trying to update my Sony NEX-5 to version 5, and every time I click the installer, it says that it runs on a 32-bit kernal.
I tried starting up in 32 bit by holding the 3 and 2 keys, but this doesn't seem to do anything. I remember when I was on Snow Leopard, I could update my NEX-5 without any 32-bit startup necessary. Looking at some forums, even when people were on Snow Leopard they needed to startup in 32-bit...but I didn't.
Why doesn't it start up in 32-bit mode?
Why doesn't the application work on 64-bit? (Chrome is 32-bit...that still works on 64-bit)
Why has Sony even done this to us?
Running Mountain Lion 10.8.2 on the 2012 21.5" iMac.

Yes, the 64-bit kernel is not supported for downloading the firmware update. You may use your neighbors or friends computer to download the firmware. You can also send the Camera to our service center for getting the firmware installed:
    Haha! Very funny Sony!
Well, I have a Canon 650D now anyway, and the update isn't a big deal. Just would be nice to update it.

  • Mountain lion doesn't boot

i decide to restart my mac, so i did ( i hit restart  from apple menu)
it shut down, tryed to boot, but with grey horizontal loading bar, it was loaded about 10% and then it shut down again
    i tryed 5 - 10 times.  same story
then i start it with disk utility, and it says that disk cant be repaired, save your data format the disk and reinstall your mountain lion.
ok! if the disk broken (i wonder how could it be???) and i must format disk again,
how i supose to save my data?  coz i cant get to finder or anything else
how could it happened with 3 month usage

    Heh!
Every new mac that i buy, do break faster than previous!!!
(and YES. My old "PowerBook G4 12 dvi" keep works fine too, PPC unbreakable )
But, in that case, I dont have a backup, I was planning to do it at coming weekend. no luck.
Disk utility says "save my data..." but dont say HOW.
The only solution in my mind is Target Disk Mode.
    And i tryed...
    • I have another iMac (white one latest 2007, running Leopard 10.5.8)
    • 2 firewire 800 cables (they work, checked with WD mybook studio)
    • I plug new iMac to white iMac via firewire, then i turn on crashed mac and put it in Target Disk Mode by holding T.
    • firewire logo bouncing, but it doesn't mounted on white iMac ((
So I just cant Save My Data. Its ≈200 Gb of unique information (my graphic design files)
Apple not presented in my country yet, but we have authorized dealers, hope they wont bump me.
Any solution to mount TDM appreciated.

  • After upgrading to Mountain Lion, Interface builder starts up with an error every boot.

I've got a late 2008 Macbook Unibody 13", and a few months back I upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion.  Ever since the upgrade, at every boot up Interface Builder starts up with an error.  I've just ignored it mostly, but now I'm getting annoyed with it.  How can I find the programs that start up every boot to research this, or stop it from loading Interface Builder every time?

You have to delete it using the minus sign at the bottom. The check/un-check is for hiding items.

  • Preview in Mountain Lion Doesn't Like Spot Colors

I upgraded to Moutnain Lion and CS6 at the same time, and one thing I've noticed is that Mac's preview doesn't seem to dig on spot colors. Has anyone else noticed this? It seems to be the case with .ai and PDFs. Not a huge deal; when you open the files, the spot colors display properly, but when you view the files within a folder through Finder, click "space" to preview, or view the file as an attachment within Mail, anything with a spot color previews as solid black, which makes the file appear as if something is "off".
My biggest concern with this is if I'm sending a PDF to a client, and they only view it within their Mail app, will it view properly for them? Not knowing the answer, I've taken to converting all of my spot colors to CMYK before I save the proof file, and this way they display properly within Mac's various previews. Just wondering if everyone using Mountain Lion/CS6 are having this issue, or if mine is somehow an isolated case.

I'm having the same problem. When I open the Acrobat Files, the color looks fine. When I look at a PDF with spot colors in Preview Mode, in a Window Column View, or as an email attachment, I see SOME of the spot colors showing up as black, but not all of them. It seems to depend on the particular Spot Color.

  • Mountain Lion doesn't detect displays on startup

I use my MacBook Pro extensively in clamshell mode, and when I did this in Lion, the integrated screen would stay off whenever I turned onb the computer because the lid was closed. However, in Mountain Lion, the screen stays on despite the fact that the lid is closed. Is there anyway to force my Mac to detect displays on start up?

Go to Sys Prefs > Displays > (hold Option) and a "Detect Displays" button will appear at the bottom right. The problem for me it's that even though a display is connected and I managed to get the button to show up, it still didn't detected the display until I unplugged and oplugged back again from the thunderbolt port.

  • Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) doesn't see HP1200 Printer over network

Hopefully somebody can shed some light here -- I have an HP LaserJet 1200 on my ethernet LAN. Have never had any problems setting it up to print using earlier versions of Mac OS or ever Windows -- however as fas as Mountain Lion is concerned the printer doesn't exist. I've downloaded and installed the latest drivers from HP, restarted machine, etc to no avail. Can anybody tell me what I need to do to make 10.8 see the printer across the room?

    mikehenden wrote:
Yes, XP box will print with no problems. The 'Properties' index was where I got the IP address from. Have looked at the 'ports' tab, have a port number and see that the protocol is 'Raw'. SNMP status is enabled and SNMP devide index is 1. Does this mean anything to you?
Yes it does. XP is using RAW Port 9100 to connect, which is called HP Jetdirect-Socket on OS X. Given that you have already tried creating a printer queue using HP Jetdirect and this did not work, there must be something else that you need to do.
It also sounds odd that the configuration page you printed does not show an IP address set in the printer. Does the Ethernet cable connect directly to the LJ1200, or is there some type of adaptor between the Ethernet and printer?
