Mountain Lion Fixed 24/192 digital out or still 24/96?

Seems running Windows on a Mac the chip set puts out 24/192 audio. If that is true, has Mountain Lion "fixed" this issue? If the hardware is capable of 24/192, why handicap it ?! Anyone with information on Mac digital audio output with Mountain Lion? Thanks in advance. Actually running 10.7.4, not 10.6.8...update profile needed...

I am running Mountain Lion on Mac Pro (early 2009) and the Audio MIDI Setup does not allow more than 24/96 for both Toslink and USB to my DAC - but it may be different on your machine.

My dad has dementia - does not remember his password. His hard drive has been erased. We need to reload Mountain Lion and can't figure out how to do it. Internet recovery asks for his Apple ID and password. He has no idea. I have an Apple ID but have never bought anything through the iTunes store so it won't accept my Apple ID. I don't know if his computer is under warranty. He does not remember if he has Applecare. I tried reinstalling Leopard -- the computer originally came with Leopard -- but the computer screen goes grey and a message comes up saying I need to restart. He wants to give this computer to me since it's useless to him. What do I do to get a system on it again?

You will need to reformat the hard drive to go back to Snow Leopard or Leopard.
Does he have a Snow Leopard Disk? He should, as there is no way to go from Leopard to Mountain Lion without it. If you can find the Snow Leopard Disk, I'd at least start with that.
You will need to use Disk Utility in the installer to format the hard drive and get rid of the recovery partition.
Boot from the installer disk by holding down the C key on restart. When it boots, Open Disk Utility (Utilities menu, at least in Snow Leopard).
Select the Hard drive and then click the Partition tab.
Select 1 Partition from the partition menu.
Select Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as the format.
Name the drive (Macintosh HD is the standard).
Click Apply to partition the drive.
When it is done, quit Disk Utility and install the OS.

I am still in the return window but i really do not want to return my mac as i know it has the ability to do what i want, my problem is just finding the software that will work as i know there has been a lot of complications with OS X Mountain Lion with softwares that caim to be compatible but then later turn out not to be.
I have been a windows user for years and this is really my first mac but apart from the hole software issue i find the mac 10x better than any windows computer i have ever used. For example i bought a HP laptop 4 weeks ago and has nothing but problems. At first the fans stopped working and making weird noises and then it began switching off when ever it felt like it and freezing like mad when i was trying to access the smallest program. I have found that now a days you dont get what you pay for with Windows especially since Windows 8 was released. Also Laptops such as HP now are just crammed with cheap parts, they dont take pride in their systems like they once used to unlike Apple. I know i will get more than a year or 2 out my mac (hopefully a lot more) but with windows systems it just seems to break all the time costing more money on extending warrantys. Also i like mac because i dont need to send it away if i ever get a problem, i can just take it into the apple shop half a mile down the road and they will fix it in store. Where as with windows i am waiting 2 weeks+ to just hear back from them.

Can't say anything about Lightroom, but Adobe officially supports CS6 all the way through Mountain Lion.

  • Unable to add/remove users in Mountain Lion Server (Options are greyed out)

For some reason, im unable to add/remove users in Mountain Lion server. The + and - are greyed out. It seems like something is wrong with the permissons because it looks like it cant write the the Ldav3 file (although that may be speculation). Does anyone have any advice for me? I URGENTLY need to add users.
Maybe theres a way to restore default permssions for the boot drive (if that in fact is the issue). Hopefully there is a way that I can fix this while leaving all users, groups, their permissions and shares intact.

Anything interesting and relevent in the server logs?
Anything interesting in the server alerts?
Since it's far and away the most common cause of problems with OS X Server and with distributed authentication (Open Directory is entirely based on network encryption and digital certificates and on responses from your local DNS server(s)), verify your local DNS configuration is working and requires no changes with the following Terminal.app (Applications > Utilities) harmless, diagnostic command:
    sudo changeip -checkhostname
sudo requires an administrative password.  You might get a one-time warning about the sudo, and that can safely be ignored.  The command will display some details, and indicate whether the local configuration appears valid and no changes are required, or further diagnostics for (most) common errors that can arise.

  • Will Mountain Lion fix the major Internet Sharing bug in Lion?

Does anyone know if Apple have indicated that they will be issuing a fix to the Internet Sharing bug in Lion (i.e. Internet Sharing does not work) in the new Mountain Lion?

Hmmm. Pete, suggest cease dissing people's problem with VNC in Mt Lion as "doesn't exist here" syndrome. Maybe for you, it's working just fine....for some of us...NOT.
Following several threads on issues with VNC and Lion and the vague hope that Mt Lion would fix the problem, I also upgraded to Mt Lion. Worse.
Prior to Lion, VNC worked every time with any Mac I tried, inside or outside the local network. With Lion, VNC worked correctly until around 10.7.4, then with intermittent connections (requiring restarts on the target Mac in order to connect a second time).
Now, with Mt Lion (target Mac is still on Lion and restarted), I cannot connect externally to the Lion Mac even with it being restarted (and Screen Sharing and Remote Management turned off/on as one thread suggested).
As another thread suggested, I had deleted the iCloud System Pref on both Macs while on Lion (with no effect to VNC).
While I'm sure there's a solution out there, I have yet to find it.
Thanks for any suggestions, but will someone at Apple please address this issue?

  • Will reinstalling mountain lion fix image retention

After installing mavericks i started getting image retention so i was wondering if reinstalling mountain lion will fix my problem.

It's unlikely that has a thing to do with OS version. But it you wish to reinstall Mountain Lion:
    Erase the drive.
Reinstall Mountain Lion from a backup.
Since your computer can run Mavericks you will no longer be able to re-download Mountain Lion. However, if Mountain Lion was pre-installed on your computer, then you may be able to reinstall it by going through an Internet Recovery:
Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This may restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.

  • Error 0x8002006E Mountain Lion - fixed?

This error has quite the history and many threads.....
In case this might be of any help out there, I was getting this on an i7 MBP machine that had Parallels/Windows installed on it, later removed.
User account would throw this error after trying to burn a DVD (using Sony discs). Top speed shown was 8x. Burning at 4x produced same error and failure.
After creating and logging into a new admin account and trashing user/library/preferences/com.apple.finder.plist for good measure (instantly regenerated), optical drive's top speed was shown as 24x and it burned a DVD at that speed without a hitch. Seems to be related to prior Windows install and doesn't mean drive has failed.

I am running Mountain Lion on Mac Pro (early 2009) and the Audio MIDI Setup does not allow more than 24/96 for both Toslink and USB to my DAC - but it may be different on your machine.

  • I currently have Snow Leopard.  Do I have to purchase Lion before I purchase Mountain Lion which will be coming out soon?

Do I have to purchase Lion before I can purchase Mountain Lion due out soon?

no one can answer this with 100% accuracy until the system requirements for 10.8 are officially released.  They can only guess, which is of no help.

  • Install Mountain Lion failed because cannot find out harddisk.

Hi, my laptop is MacBook Air 2011 and I buy it near Dec 2011 in India. previously I installed Lion and Windows 7 in it. Today I get the Mountain Lion OS and try to install OS as totally new, so before installation I delete the windows partion. Now there is only Lion OS partion there can be seen in Disk Untility, but when I do the installation, only USB installation disk can be found.
Now I cannot boot into Lion also, please tell how to solve this case so I can install Mountain OS, thanks!

My laptop is Macbook Pro, just before the new models were released 2012
My issue is slightly different, I downloaded ML and when asked to select the drive to install ML it would identify my hard drive as a time machine back-up. Then when I go back and try a second attempt it just flat out says I can't install ML on this hard drive. What's going on?
As far as I know there is no damage, the computer is backed up.
    What can I do?

  • I need to upgrade Snow Leopard to get icloud before my mobileme expires at the end of June.  If I buy Lion, will I be able to upgrade to Mountain Lion free when it comes out?  When is MLion going to be released in UK?

I am running Snow Leopard and have a Mobile Me account.  My Mobile Me account expires at the end of June.  I have been told that I will need to buy the Lion upgrade to run icloud on my imac, but I am aware that Lion is due to be replaced by Mountain Lion this summer.  I don't want to have to buy two up grades!  Will Mountain Lion be released before my mobile me account expires?  If not and I buy the Lion upgrade, will I be able to upgrade it to Mountain Lion, free, in view of the fact that I will only have had Lion for a very short time and could not avoid this purchase??????

    HI...
We have no way of knowing exactly when Mountain Lion will be released. Most likely, if you upgrade to Lion now you'll be able to upgrade to Mountain Lion, but the actual minimum requirements are unknown at this time.
Lion is only $29.99 plus any applicable taxes and fees and available from the App Store, or you can purchase the thumb drive > OS X Lion USB Thumb Drive - Apple Store
Make sure your Mac meets Lion's requirements.
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space

  • Can I still obtain a copy of mountain lion now that Mavericks is out?

Hi, I'm trying to install icloud on my wife's computer so it will sync pictures and contacts with her new iphone.  The computer is happy and stable running snow leopard (great program, I miss it.) But icloud doesn't run on snow leopard.  I went to the app store and snow leopard isn't there anymore.  I tried to download Mavericks and the store robot quickly told me that it can't be installed on her macbook, even though it seemed to me that it fit the system requirements.
Maybe there's a way to get icloud running on computers at are using 10.6.8, but since icloud is built into the OS, I haven't be able to find one.  We just finished building a really nice contacts book on her computer and were getting ready to transfer to her phone prior to activating it, but we're stymied.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

If it won't install Mavericks, Mountain Lion won't run on it either.
To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) model number 5,1 or higher
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
    Your Mac needs:
OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
2 GB or more of memory (More is better - 4 GB minimum seems to be the consensus)
8 GB or more of available space
You might be able to install Lion.

  • Where to download OSX Mountain Lion (now that Mavericks is out)?

I have a 2005 Macbook Pro Intel Core Duo running 10.7.5 and tried unsuccessfully to upgrade to Mavericks.  Because the Macbook is too old, Mavericks is not supported on it.
So given that, I'd like to upgrade the Macbook to the last version of OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.  But can't find it in the App store any more.  Is there someplace to download and install this older version for older computers like mine?

I called Apple Support Sales, 800-My-Apple, and their response was that while 10.9 Mavericks is free for download, those computers that cannot support 10.9, but are on 10.7.5 or earlier can PURCHASE 10.8 at $19.95.
I found this unfair, given that newer Macs can upgrade for free, but older ones have to pay to get an older version of the SW.  It looks like either I come up with $19.95, get a new MacBook Pro, or just stay with 10.7.5.
I don't think that this is good customer relations.

  • Mountain Lion - Apple I have been downloading mountain lion for 5 hours now, and its still not processing! This is not good please sort out!

Ok, I'm now getting really annoyed with downloading Mountain Lion. I left my Mac Book Pro - 6 month old in download mode all night and nothing! I have started again and in 5 hours about 5%!
What is going on - Apple is this good customer service?

It could be your Internet connection and not the Apple servers. I downloaded it again (although I already had the GM developer version) over a very slow Internet connection and it took about 3 1/2 hours. You can always pause and then resume the download - Lauchpad will let you know how your download is proceeding.

  • I think Mountain Lion fixed some of the LR UI issues

I just got my MBPr and I immediately did a clean install of Mountain Lion(still had Lion, up-to-date took about 20 seconds, its got to be automated to some extent) I just installed LR4.1 and Ill be damned if the UI doesn't look perfectly fine, and the 1:1 crop and all other view ratios give a nice clean image. I attached an image. Hopefully photoshop works the same.

There would seem to be three possible scenarios here. One is that you're attaching special significance to events that are not necessarily connected or even malicious. I've seen many people believe they were hacked over very silly things... like thinking they were hacked because it would constantly start playing music, pausing, skipping tracks, etc. In actuality, a two-year-old was playing with the infrared remote for their computer. If you can describe in greater detail the problems you're having, that can help us determine whether this might be the case. If it is, I'm sure that would ease your mind significantly.
Another is that someone - probably someone you know - with a lot of technical know-how has a grudge and is harassing you. This would require a great deal of expertise, as the hacking you describe spans at least 5 different operating systems, from the sounds of it, and includes devices for which there are no publicly-known exploits that would allow a hacker access (ie, an iPod Touch). This seems unlikely.
A third possibility is that this could simply be explained away by someone (agan, possibly someone you know, but not necessarily) managing to hack their way into a number of your online accounts. Getting access to online accounts can cause a lot of problems without ever actually hacking any of the user's devices. See the story of Mat Honan getting hacked:
