Mountain lion frozen on restart

I don't know why but I decided to download mountain lion on my 2012 13 inch MacBook Pro cos it didn't come with it.
Now after an easy installation it is completely frozen on "closing applications and preparing to restart..." screen for 1hour with the rainbow thing spinning
What do I do?

Something went wrong during update, seemingly.
Force-shut-down by pressing and holding the power button. Then boot, see what happens. If trouble, boot from the recovery partition and go through the OS X install routine again.

  • OSX Mountain Lion Upgrade causes Restart, Kernel Panics

Have tried resetting PRAM, repairing permissions, and Disk Repair. This is happening after an upgrade from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion. A fresh install is not a possibility. of course, I have a time machine backup and can go back to snow leopard if I have to. I cannot do a clean Mountain Lion install although I am planning to do one just to see if this is a hardware issue and not a software issue, and then revert back with time machine. I'm not having any luck discerning what caused the actual reboot.
There is no particular action I take that causes this. It happens randomly. It has been happening since the upgrade today. I installed XCode4 on the computer from the app store, which did not upgrade but instead put another copy of Xcode. There was a thread I researched where someone suggests removing an AppleProfileFamily file from Sytem/Library, but I do not have that file on my system.

This software seems to pinpoint the problem. I haven't had the restart issue with Intel onboard graphics only. However, this definitely isn't a problem solved.
After much more research, I found that people with my video card have been having this issue since OSX Lion and Apple still hasn't fixed it. This is incredibly disappointing. I will be contacting Apple for a refund on Mountain Lion soon if I can't find updated drivers.
Thanks very much for your help.

  • Error downloading Mountain Lion, impossible to restart [SOLVED]

I just wanted to drop an issue that I had.
I have a Mid 2012 MacBook Pro, that was covered by the free upgrade to Mountain Lion program. I received a correct coupon code, but while downloading, there was an internet problem. After, it was impossible to restart the download or erase any data.
The OS X Mountain Lion item in the App Store inside Purchased, was locked, with a black button and a red alert.
To fix the problem all I had to do is:
Log off from the app store
Delete every file in ~/Library/Saved Application State/com.apple.appstore.savedState/
Run App Store.app, and inside App Store
    Log in again
Purchase again Mountain Lion, it will say that it's free (it has been previously purchased).
After that it will run again.
    Hoping to be useful

Try brining your MAC up in safe mode, download Mountain Lion, then restart your computer and install.  Should work fine.

  • Clean install mountain lion, 3 beeps, restart...

    Hi!
I just did a clean mountain lion install on my MBP, and it restarts and beep 3 times and a white screen, I have to remove the battery and turn it back on in order to have access to my session, but it restarts again in less than a couple minutes, I removed one DDR2 2gb RAM and it seems to be fine, but I didn´t have any issue before with my 4gb RAM, I´d really appreciate if you could help me, it says something of ¨panic¨, this is the report:

  • APC UPS, Mountain Lion, and system restart problem

I have a Mac Pro (3,1) and it's been running Lion (10.7.x) for a long time. It's connected to an APC UPS XS 1500 via a USB cable for years. I've never had any problems with it.
Two weeks ago I updated to Mountain Lion (10.8.2). Since then I've returned to my machine to find that it had rebooted itself. After logging in, the system tells me that there was a problem and asks if I want to send the error report to Apple.
Yesterday, I tried unplugging the Mac Pro from the UPS, plugging it directly into a wall outlet, and disconnecting the USB-UPS cable. So far, I've had no problem with system restarts.
Has anyone had a similar problem? If so, did you solve it? How?
    Thank you.

Hi, macjack. Thanks for your response.
So far, with the MP plugged directly into a wall outlet I've had no system initiated reboots or shut-downs.
I looked in the console log and there's so much stuff in there, I'm simply lost. Are there one or two keywords I should search for that might help in debugging the problem?
    Again, thanks.

  • Installing Mountain Lion, Beachball Upon Restart

Hi. I run the Mountain Lion install the it said restart after, now there's a beachball that's been spinning for around 15 minutes now with only the desktop picture (no menu, no Dock) with the spinning beachball. Is it installing or it crashed? Should I hard restart or wait?
    Thank you in advance.
    God bless.

Hard restart it and see what occurs.

  • Bluetooth inactive after installing mountain lion - your computer restarted because of a problem

    Good day
I read up on forums, and I think my reboot error is due to my bluetooth that is inactive, which happened after installing Mountain Lion
My Bluetooth worked before under Snow Leopard
I have deleted the file under library to no avail
I have rebooted with cmd option P R to no avail
I have repaired permissions and this is the only message that pops up, and bluetooth still does not work after reboot.
    Repairing permissions for “Macintosh HD”
Warning: SUID file “System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent” has been modified and will not be repaired.

  • Mountain Lion Crashes and Restarts When Trying to Sleep

Ever since I installed Mountain Lion, when I try to put my early 2011 MacBook Pro to sleep it crashes and then auto restarts.  I can't find anything in the log files to indicate what is causing this crash.  This seems different than the reported bugs of the sleep function under the Apple menu not working.  It tries to sleep, then "bong" it reboots and tells me it restared because there was a problem.

Actually it hangs at almost every program launched.
It crashes during archiving process using winrar, when I tried to copy a file larger than 4GB, when launching windows internet update, avast antivirus internet update, when configuring local network, when trying to launch Prince of Persia: two thrones, when playing Dark messiah of might & magic (those were the only games I installed).
At the moment I'm quite determined to report everything to the thoshiba service and ask to use the guarantee or sumething like that.
When I reported the errors as Windows proposed, it showed that it is a graphic card problem, it said to install new drivers or decerase the speed of the display device (though it never had beed incerased by me). Either reinstalling the new derivers or decereasing power of the graphic card didn't help.
The new, never seen by me blue screen showed me this: IRQ_NOT_LOWER_THAN_EQUAL (or somthing simmilar).
As I wrote at the begining it crashes almost at every opportunity...

    Thanks,
    Josh

I have this same exact issue. Screen freezes, if you let it sit there long enough without a hard reboot, it will kernel panic.

    Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5
I hope Apple will do something about this, it seems to be a very common problem now with 10.7.5 and 10.8.2.
If anyone has any ideas to fix this please holler!

I'm surprised that no one had a single idea of what it could be but the good news is that I managed to figure it out myself. The NVIDIA drivers simply doesn't work on ML. So I did the following:
    1. Unchecked "Automatic graphics switching" from System Preferences > Energy Saver
    2. Downloaded gfxCardStatus from http://gfx.io/ and checked "only integrated"
No kernel panics whatsoever since. I can't believe a bug like this hasn't been fixed yet!

    HI,
If you have any sort of Back up such as a Time Machine one you could "restore" it to the Applications folder if you know which date it last worked.
Other than that it is the Mountain Lion Restore process (Restart the Computer holding CMD and R)

  • PLEASE HELP!! from snow leopard to mountain lion - install page just sitting there

    Hi,
I am updating my macbook from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion. I downloaded the software from the app store just fine  and checked to make sure my macbook is compatible (which it is). But now I am trying to install it on my HD and it wont do anything. I agreed to the terms and conditions and entered my admin passwprd already and nothing's happening. I've done this multiple times, closing out of the mountain lion app and restarting it - going through the process over again and still nothing is happening. No horizontal blue install bar, no reving of the fans making it sound like work is being done - nada. Please help!!!

    Hi,
You could try and redownload the Installer.app and try again (move the installer that you have allready downloaded to the desktop first).

  • I lost Power while I was 50% through on my Free Mountain Lion Download.

I lost Power while I was 50% through on my Free Mountain Lion Download. Restarted my system and did not find the Download on my Launchpad. Is there anyway I can continue that download? Tried refilling the form, no Luck Though!
The form says I have already claimed my Free Code for my MacMini Serial!
I live in India and this is a very common problem I am guessing! Slow Internet Speeds and Power Issues!
    Help would really be Appreciated!
    - Sigmund Quadros

Thanks so much mate! The download has begun, from the top though! Doesn't really matter as long as I have it downloading! Cheers! And Big Thanks again!

  • HT1349 MY SERIAL NUMBER IS ALREADY CLAIMED BUT I HAVE NOT DOWNLOADED OS X MOUNTAIN LION.

I believe the person who was helping me at the store requested for me a download of the operating system but may have located me as in the United States (I do not know if that makes a difference). Either way I never got the confirmation email and I never downloaded OS X Mountain Lion.
Assistance would be appreciated. Thank you.

-Create a bootable install drive for OS X Mountain Lion on USB
-restart and hold cmd + r to access the menu
The issue here is that command-R starts up the machine from the recovery partition, not from whatever bootable install disk you created. So you have to download the system. If you want to start up from the bootable install disk, hold down the option key at startup, with the disk connected.

  • HT1338 downloading Mountain Lion

Has anyone had any issues with downloading Mountain lion?   I purchased it and went to down load it and no luck,  All I have now is a charge to my credit card and no upgrade

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
First, open App Store > Purchases, and pause and resume Mountain Lion download.
If it doesn't work, go to Applications folder, delete the Mountain Lion installer and restart. Finally, open App Store > Purchases and download Mountain Lion
