Mountain Lion Giving Messages Grief

I recently installed Mountain Lion OSX and love Messages, but unfortunately I'm having a lot of issues with it. My MacBook Air was purcharsed last year and had no issues installing. When it comes to Messages, however, it's been playing hot and cold.
When I first turn on the computer, Messages won't log into my Google Talk (which it refers to Jabber?) or my AIM account, instead leaving them as Offline with no amount of changing the status making a difference. The only way to get signed in initially is to play around the the Sever Settings until they sign in. Even then though, Messages will randomly sign me out of the accounts seemingly out of the blue, which again results in my either changing around the Server Settings or quitting Messages and trying again. I've tried resetting the PRAM but it doesn't seem to have helped in the least. When they go offline, I get the "network error has occured" pop up on my buddy list.
Is this something Apple is going to address in future updates or is there an ACTUAL fix for these issues now?

Ive just upgraded my late 2009 macbook, and things are not working properly. First of all, when I started the computer first time after installing Mountain Lion, some message advised me that some files were impossible to install. Once I wrote my password, and for now on, everytime I start the session, another window advise me that "Java SE 6" is missing, due that, the computer can't run some "CS5Service Manager". If I try to install it, the download ends with an error. If finally, you skip the istallation, you arrive to the dock, but the menu bar at the top of the screen doesn't show up.
In addition, my trackpad doesn't works either. I can move the arrow but i can't click anywhere, probably because the option of clicking by touching is disabeled and I can't performance a regular click.
I'll be very glad if someone know what the heck is happening with my computer. Anyway, I'm going to the genius bar next Saturday. Thx!

Can you try to create a new User Account, and then pull the OS through there?

  • IMessages not functioning on OS X Mountain Lion's Messages

I just noticed that I am unable to send or receive iMessages on the Messages app on OS X Mountain Lion.
I checked the accounts, and the only two active are my facebook chat (which I regularly use) and Google talk. I do not see an iMessage account. When I try to add an account, the types are Yahoo, Jabber, AIM, and Google Talk. It doesn't seem any of these fits.
I am signed in to my Apple ID on my Mac and iCloud has everything enabled. What is the issue?

    Hi Plasma,
It sounds like you may be looking at the Mail, Contacts & Calendars option under System Preferences. You need to set the iMessage account information up in the Messages app. Open the app, then select Preferences from there:

  • Mountain lion error message (fail to restart Mac mini for installation)

    Hi,
I successfully downloaded mountain lion and attempted to install it several times on my Mac mini; however, it gives an error message when it wants to restart computer for installation purposes. The error message reads "An error occured while preparing the installation. Try running the application again." Well, I did as instructed several times to no avail. Is there anybody to help me out. I will be grateful.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Select the most recent panic log under System Diagnostic Reports. Post the contents — the text, please, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post shutdownStall, spin, or hang reports.

  • Mountain Lion error message

Trying to install Mountain Lion. I get "An error occurred while scrips from package "mzm.zhyujwje.pkg". I have tried to restart my MacBook Air  but no luck. I have 2 gb RAM.

Nope. It's Apple's new way to control everything via the MAS. Details in Recovery and About Lion Recovery. Also, see the Internet Recovery.

  • Mountain Lion Mail "Message Import" Won't Finish

Upgraded to Mountain Lion yesterday from Lion, had massive issues with SystemUIServer freezing the system, so I wiped the hard drive and did a fresh install of Mountain Lion. After using migration assistant to move stuff over from a Time Machined external HD, the Mail upgrade halts at around 26000 emails. This happened in 10.8.0 and after I upgraded to 10.8.1.
This is what I've been staring out for about 6 hours (cancelled, restarted, rebooted, etc).

Bet you upgraded from Snow Leopard. The scanner software you have installed is likely PPC but could run in Snow Leopard, which was the last version of Mac OS X that supported it, rather than just Intel software.
I'd suggest going to the Epson website and getting Mountain Lion compatible drivers from their Drivers and Support page. They will be for Intel Macs such as yours.

  • AIM cannot connect in Mountain Lion's Messages app

I upgraded to Moutain Lion yesterday and my AIM account will no longer connect in Messages. Prior to this I was using the Messages beta under Lion and it was working fine. Messages connects fine to my gTalk and iCloud accounts. Adium connects fine to my AIM account using the same credentials. But for some reason, when I add the AIM account in Messages, it just sits there saying "Offline" with the little jagged line icon. I continuously try to change my status to "Available", un-check and re-check the "Enable this Account" checkbox in Preferences>Accounts, and delete it and re-add it. Nothing seems to get it to sign on.
    Any ideas?

Ok. Stand-down. After following Ralph's tip here and restarting the computer, things are now working fine. Thanks!

  • Can't download Mountain Lion - error message

The product distribution file could not be verified.  It may be damaged or was not signed.

Spotlight won't find it as it's a system(-ish) file, so doesn't expect you to be nosing around in there!
You should see sub-folders below /var/folders. All I did was explore these sub folders (and any sub-sub-folders etc) until I found the com.apple.appstore file. Then (peeking from behind my hands) I deleted it.
    I found mine in var/folders/gn/hdq2sz..../C
Then disable everything you can in Virus Barrier and try and install from the appstore again. I can't remember if I rebooted before retrying or even quit and restarted app store, but it might be worth doing that if it still doesn't work.
    Good luck.

  • Messages won't work with iMessage after Mountain Lion install

I previously had Messages Beta installed on both my Macbook and iMac and they worked great.  Now I upgraded to Mountain Lion and Messages works fine on my iMac, but not on my Macbook.  It defaults to Bonjour and when I enter the Apple ID info I get a message "Your Apple ID "[email protected]" can't be used to set up iMessage at this time.", and it says to contact customer support.  What is causing this and does anyone know how to fix it?

    HI,
I must admit to not having two computers to try this on.
The one I do have is an iMac and updated from Lion to Mountain Lion with Messages Beta still active in the Lion build and I did not have any problems.
I can see that the iMessages servers could be getting confused as you are trying to use the same Apple ID on the MacBook as is in use on the iMac.
Try going to the preferences in Messages on the iMac and Disabling the iMessage Account whilst you set up the nmame in a MacBook

  • Trying to upgrade to Mountain Lion, error is  message; " product distribution file could not be verified. It may be damaged or was not signed"

trying to upgrade to Mountain Lion, error   message; " product distribution file could not be verified. It may be damaged or was not signed" ??
what to do? This is in App store. I followed the link e-mailed to me that an upgrade was available....... Puzzled.

Several causes for this problem have been reported. Please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when it's resolved.
    Step 1
    Back up all data.
    From the menu bar, select
     ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Network
If the preference pane is locked, click the lock icon in the lower left corner and enter your password to unlock it. Then click the Advanced button and select the Proxies tab. If any proxy options are selected, make a note of them and then deselect them. You don’t need to change the bypass or FTP settings. Click OK and then Apply. Test. The result may be that you can't connect to any web server. Restore the previous settings if that happens.
    Step 2
Rebuild the Spotlight index. If you try to search now from the magnifying-glass icon in the top right corner of the display, there will be an indication that indexing is in progress.
    Step 3
Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • My iChat account on Messages stays logged out Mountain Lion

Since I upgraded to Messages Beta while on Lion, my iChat account has randomly logged out constantly while in use...
The only way I could fix this was by restarting my computer, but eventually it would log out, and stay logged out, again.
Now having upgraded to Mountain Lion, and today updating to 10.8.1 (hoping it would fix the issue), nothing has helped.
In Mountain Lion, my Messages now logs out within 5 minutes of being logged in, and stays logged out.
I've tried fixing the port on the account, using/not using SSL, trying with/without using proxy, etc...
I'm not a pro with using these complicated internet thingys, but I just want my iChat to work (in Messages!!!!).
    PLEASE HELP ME
