Mountain Lion go to sleep mode when FCPX render active
MacBook Pro powered from power source. Why system goto sleep while FCP render active?
My wife's Macbook Pro does that when I'm running a maintenance program for some reason. I just set the energy pane to never go to sleep until the program finishes.
I suspect, but don't know for sure, that it is not detecting any on-going activity.

Mountain Lion Freezes From Sleep Mode
It seems like Mountain Lion is going into this "kernel" panic mode after I try to bring my computer back from sleep mode. That thing everyone a lot of people talking about where it locks up and you can't force quit anything or do anything except watch the spinning beach ball and move between open applications.

For what its worth I have tried removing all peripherals and see if it does it and it still does it. This behavior doesn't happen to me at all while using the machine normally, only when I am coming back from sleep mode. When I upgraded it didn't list any incompatible software. Also I am noting that after a few trys I can relaunch finder but the spinning beach ball remains. I was thinking that it was something like Windows Explorer crashing but it seems lower level problem then that. There is something hanging and it doesn't seem like an application. Seems like something in the OS, well, obviously because this wasn't happening before I upgraded. I am just going to shut my machine down after I am doing using it for now so I am not hard resetting it four times per day. Has anyone else seen this behavior?Okay, it has been over 30 hours since my iMac has done this. It doesn't have that problem where it sits and spins any more. My workaround is to go into System Preferences, Energy Saver, and slide the Computer Sleep all the way to NEVER. I still put my display to sleep same time though. And I also uncheck Put Hard Disks to Sleep When Possible. That seems to have done the trick for me. I have done nothing else to remedy this and my rig would freeze up on my three times per day so there you have it. Hopefully they will fix whatever issue is plaguing the sleeping computers. I know there are alot of them out there set that why by default.

I am running OSX Lion 10.78.4 and the computer will no longer go into sleep mode when I close the cover. In system preferences I can no longer find the option that allows for this energy saving feature. What happened to this option and why is this no longer happening with the latest version of Lion?
No external monitors or devices attached. When you mention that this function only works when devices are attached that is true when you set up your preferences that way. Up until my upgrade to Lion the computer would always go into sleep mode when I closed the lid. There also used to be an option to check in system preferences that allowed you to choose this option. My question for the discussion is what happened to that option and how do you get the computer to sleep or at least the display to sleep when you close the lid as we have been able to do in the past. Mountain lion - wake from sleep - destroys hdd
I upgraded my macbook pro mid 2009 model to mountain lion.
First crash - left my computer for 3 hrs playing music using iTunes. Hdd went to sleep, screen is sleeping as well. I moved my mouse and everything froze. Music stopped. Waited for a minute. Nothing happened. I forced shutdown by holding power button for 5 seconds. Reboot failed because hdd can no longer be detected. (Gray folder with question mark) Not even by the install disk.
I brought it to the service center and they replaced my hdd after i approved it. It works ok then. Reinstalled mountain lion and all my stuff.
Second crash - i left my computer for an hour playing music through Grooveshark. Screen and hdd went to sleep while music still played ok. I moved the mouse to wake from sleep but the screen remained black. I can see the cursor not moving but the music was still playing. I put down the lid and waited for a few seconds before turning it on. Screen was still black except for mouse. Music stopped when i closed the lid. I forced shutdown by holding the power button for 5 seconds. Reboot failed because the hdd cannot be detected. (Gray folderneith question mark) Not even by the install disk.
I'm going to the repair center tomorrow and have it checked again. It's only been a week since i got back from the repair center...
So i was reading about the issues with mountain lion waking from sleep where the hdd has slept as well. But it seems that their hdds were intact and they were able to reboot. Mine however, has left my hdd as a heavy paper weight.
2 things, how do I repair the hdds and use them again? Is the issue caused by waking from sleep with the hdd sleeping as well?
Note that in both occurrences, my mbp was plugged in.
Or is it possible that the 2009 model just can't handle mountain lion?
I'm thinking of using ubuntu to force mount my 2 broken hdds and hopefully recover some of my data though all my important files and documents are in sugarsync and dropbox. Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu. -
Numbers does not open with the main user after installing mountain lion. It works flawlessly when I use the second account on my mac. What got corrupted in the admin-account, something in the user-library? How can I fix it? I´m kinda desperate... (the same happens with the other iWork-Apps!)
Looking forward to hearing from somebody with a littlemore expertise than me, Chrisyou can remove preferences files by navigating to the Preferences folder for your user as follows:
0) Quit ALL iWork apps (Keynote, Pages and Numbers)
1) from the Finder select the menu item "Go > Go To Folder…". This will bring up a dialog:
2) enter the path "~/Library/Preferences" (no double quotes)
3) find the files:
com.apple.iWork.Keynote.plist
com.apple.iWork.Numbers.plist
com.apple.iWork.Pages.plist
and move these to the trash. I would NOT empty until later.
4) restart Numbers -
i sent my 17inch mac pro to apple to install a new hard drive and my mountain lion was not on it when i got it back, using the same apple id i tried to re download it but it says i have to pay

My (early 2014) rMBP abruptly goes black (sleep mode) when computer is tilted at certain angles or lifted. Ive reset Energy saver mode to factory defaults and the problem still occurs.
Please make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service.

Alo, my Macbook pro i7 2 GHz Intel Core i7 (early 2011) will not go to sleep with the power source connected. only enters sleep mode when running on battery. Someone did this happen, and it could solve?
There is no output from that command line? Maybe the pid changed.
I'll repeat what I am trying to find out...
1. You do a pmset -g on the terminal.
2. The output from that pmset should have a line that says "sleep 0 (imposed by n)" where n is some number.
3. The ps ax | grep n is supposed to display what the process associated with n is.
It's the output from step 3 that should indicate what is causing you not to sleep.
But speaking of sleep, that's where I am going. -

That is a Proximity Sensor Problem, which is located above the earpiece speaker. Do you have a new screen protector or iPhone Case which could interfer with this?
Reset iPhone, Restore iPhone.
If you have Warranty or AppleCare Coverage make Genius Reservation and take iPhone to Apple for resolution. -

My experience with electronic tends to revolve around thermo stress, and removing all power vs going to sleep tends to be more or less the same. Many components have power totally taken away, and others use so little power they cool off.
However, I found thermo stress occurs a lot more with discrete electronic components (like back in the '80s and our VAX-11/780's which had lot more discrete components) and less with integrated circuits. NOTE: I'm not talking about overheating components, just normal heating/cooling cycles.
All in all I would not worry about it. The OP (Grace 1) should use whatever method is most convent for her. And I would say if she is using a Macbook Air or the new Macbook Pro Retna display (or any other Mac with a solid state drive (SSD)), then booting from shutdown may not take all that long anyway. -
Problem activating Facetime on iMac: I recently upgraded my iMac from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion.
Since the upgrade, when I try to sign on with my valid Apple ID & password I get this message "The server encountered an error processing registration. Please try again later."
I have tried (again later) repeatedly without success. PLEASE HELP! -

i have in the meantim had to open www.icloud. then from there import the file that i am working on and then check on ipad if it uploaded/ yes it did.
but what a waste of time as it doesn not save any changes done automatically back in the cloud....
i am now downloading the new LION and hope that it will fix the problem
i cant find any other way. I was lead to believe that you wrote, it saved automatically, on to the cloud, you then opened anohter device in anotother country even, and the new file was there, waiting, in its latest version.......
and the same magic was supposed to happen in reverse.

All-in-one 6830 printer Does not enter sleep mode when connected to a phone line
HP staff help. HP all-in-one printer 6830 does not enter sleep mode when conntected to a phone line via 1-Line jack. The Firmware is PNP1CN1521AR. On August 1, 2015, I purchased an HP all-in-one 6830 printer and upgraded to firmware PNP1CN1521AR.When a phone line is connected to 1-Line jack of 6830, the printer will no longer enter sleep mode and the display remains on indefinitly.Removing the phone connection either from the wall outlet or from the printer causes the sleep mode to work correctly again where the control panel display turns off after 5 minutes (or optionally after 10 or 15 minutes).This problem was previously reported by a user and has not been resolved, see:http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Other-Printing-Questions/Sleep-mode-of-Officejet-Pro-6830/td-p/4772182 The user did not receive a resolution to this problem according to the thread.
There seems to be a 6830 printer firmware or hardware problem causing this. HP should be able to confirm this problem on 6830 easily.

ThanksIt's a regular analog phone line. I've tested it with other phone lines. No difference. I have another all-in-one printer which works fine (goes to sleep mode) when plugged into the same phone line.
The 6830 works ok in other aspects. The only problem is the sleep mode. Any 6830 with the firmware I mentioned should replicate the same result, regardless of anything else. The previous firmware to PNP1CN1521AR also created this problem according to the original report of this problem by another user.
I'm sure there's a bug in the firmware. A subroutine in the firmware monitoring the incoming fax ringing, mistakenly, sees the voltage across the phone jack pins as an event and wakes up the printer instantly even though there's no ringing. As the previous user also suspected, there seems to be an error in the phone line voltage threshold used by the firmware. The present firmware always sees a ringing at the phone line which causes it to never stay in sleep mode.
