I have a Macbook Pro 13' (Mid 2010) with LION which has always worked very properly.

On Wednesday 25th I've bought (16€) and instald Mac OS X Mountain Lion. The laptop seems too slow for me but I didn't mind at that moment, before going to sleep I shutted down the macbook pro.
-Thursday 26th
The next day, when I tried to turn on, it stayed at the white screen with the apple and thinking. I tried it for several times, and at one of them after 10 minutes the os started but it worked incredibly slow (It was imposible to shut down it normaly). I called to apple care, they told me to enter in recovery mode and verify the disk. I do it and all was ok. I restarted and as before the mac didn't started or at least started and worked very slow.
-Friday 27th
I tried to turn on the laptop with the recovery mode, but I had no response of the macbook pro,it stayed with the white screen. I called again to apple care and after some times I could enter to the recovery mode, but this time the were important errors at verifing the disk and it was impossible to fix it.
So I went to apple premium reseller near to my home. They found all the hardware ok with their test but they told me to open the laptop and change the hard disk (paying 200€) to solve the problem. I sayed thank you very much and I took a quote at the Genius Bar in the Apple Store for the afternoon. They found all the hardware ok again but they weren't able to fix the problem by this moment. So they told my to leave the computer and they would reinstall mountain lion from 0, without any cost.
After 3 hours I've recevied a call from the Apple Store telling my that the hard disk was broken and I've to pay for a new one (150€).
They are not taking into account that the laptop was ok and by installing the new OS and making all the test and restarts that they told me to do are the cause of hard disk's rupture.
What can I do? What do you recomend to me?

Mountain Lion Aborted Installation—Claimed Hard Disk Failed, Couldn't be Repaired, and Should be Replaced
I have a 2011 MacBook Pro. Installation of Mountain Lion aborted claiming the hard disk could not be repaired by Disk Utility, should be backed up immediately, and replaced. It didn't make sense that the drive was booting up the computer for installation, but needed replacing. I removed the drive, put it in an external enclosure, and backed up the drive using a working Mac Mini, and Carbon Copy Cloner.
Hard Disk Was Write-Locked—Not Failing
Booting in Single User mode (hold command and S keys down while bootup is proceeding). I then typed in the fsck command given after Single User bootup. It informed me the drive was write-locked and read only. Now things were starting to make sense. Disk Utility couldn't repair the drive because it was write-locked! Maybe it could have been unlocked by the "chflags nouchg /Volumes/volume" or "chflags noschg /Volumes/volume" commands (http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20031017061722471), but I didn't try it. Unlocking the drive is really worht a try because it could save hours of coppying through a slow USB interface.
I formatted my laptop drive after copying it to another large external drive. Then I used Carbon Copy Cloner to clone Snow Leopard from my Mac Mini to my freshly formatted original laptop drive. I unsellected the "Users" folder so I would only get the operating system—saving lots of hours copying data I don't need. Then I put the drive back in my laptop, and it booted with Snow Leopard. Checked the volume with Disk Utility and was informed the drive is fine. I removed the drive and connected it externally to my Mac Mini and ran fsck_hsf a few times in the terminal, which showed problems were found and fixed.

More Trouble Migraiting My Applications and Directory
I expect to use up more time changing my computer name, migrating applications and rsyncing my User Directory. I will post how I achieve this.
I Hope People Avoid Trouble and Problems are Solved
I hope everyone will avoid trouble by making boot clone of their whole disk before attempting an install of ML and repairing their disk with Disk Utility and fsck before ML installer prevents it with a write-lock. Please see the first section.
I hope this solves other peoples problems with 'unreparable' disks. I believe this proves disks are repairable when ML says otherwise.

I recommend you copy your drive as soon as possible. I really don't think the drive is bad, but you may have to format it and copy back to it. Hopefully not. Clone or backup the drive before trying this recipe. Any time you have errors on a drive, back it up. A failing drive has lmited life. However, I don't think these drives are really failing, but that is my opinion and I break a lot of things.
Let's try this recepie for you:
Start in Single User Mode. Power on while holding the Command + S keys.
At the prompt, type "fsck_hfs -fy" or "fsck -fy" and hit return.
Do it again.
Enter the command "reboot".
Just googled "volume count disk utility" and got the same recipe to fix it.

So my recipe is to try to fix the drive without taking it out of the computer, which requires you can boot it up.

This will give you a redemption code, which you can use to download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Unfortuantely, I'm not aware of any other way to legally purchase it. I have never seen Apple release Muontain Lion on DVD.
In terms of Apple Service, they just need the serial number of the machine to check the purcahse date. It is usually correct, to within a few weeks. A quick Google search should give you the correct number to dial.

Snow Leopard would have needed to be installed on a properly formatted drive, so I don't understand why you would need to format it again to that same format.

I have a 2nd Gen MAc book Air with Lion . The 60GB hard disc has quickly filled up despite me keeping most of my data on a portable hard drive . I used disk inspector to locate the problem but found that it was was in 20 GB of hidden files in my user directory . Is this correct and is there anything i can do about it ? Using disk inspector you can not see individual hudden diretories or files. I did unhide them but there is a mass of diretories etc and so no way i could see if this is one or multiple files using the space. Library System and Applications are at 4 3 and 3 GB respectvely. The data I actually keep on there is 9GB Thanks for any help
I think the problem is Quick Time Player. I am using OS 10.6.8 by the way.
I tried it out again.
I had about 26 GB of space before I played an .avi video.
After the movie started to play (it was slow to load), I got a warning message that my startup disk was full. I opened Disk Utility and it told me I had no space left (about 20 MB or something like that was left).
I watched to the end of the movie.
Then I quit Quicktime Player.
And I shut down the computer.
I turned on the computer and checked Disk Utility. I have about 26 GB of space.
I think for some reason Quicktime Player uses up a lot of the disk space when it runs movies that are problematic. This movie I was watching did not open with vlc.
I normally use vlc to watch movies.
Probably it doesn't use up this much space when the movie is OK.
I think there's a problem with this particular movie. It is about 50 MB so it's not that big a file. I watch .smi subtitles with it. The Quicktime Player automatically loads the subtitle file in this case because the subtitle file has the same name as the movie file.
I watched about 10 movie files from the same series that I downloaded together and did not have any problem watching them. I watched them on vlc. But this latest movie had problems I think (as I repeat). It did not load on vlc even though I waited for a minute, and normally movies load instantly on vlc.
So I think that movie file caused problems. It made QT player use up a lot of hard disk space.
I had better avoid watching that movie in the future. I don't want it to wreck my hard drive.
So to sum up, everything is back to normal. I have the hard disk space that I should have. However, I am scared of damaging my hard drive due to shonky movie files that eat up all the space when they are played using QT player, and so I will not watch those files in the future, as I do not know why the files do that. -
Mountain lion has killed my mac book pro. After downloading and trying to install, I am stuck in a loop of "not enough room to install on this disk" and not being able to access the old disk's data to open up space.
Nope. It just opened the installer and stayed in the same loop.
It tells me to choose a startup disk but the only option is the HD which it will not use because it says it cannot gather enough information.
Eveything was working fine until the mountain lion failed install. -

Thank you.If I follow you correctly, you either have or will be replacing the hard drive in your iMac. You don't have the original OS X disks nor an operating system disk. Do you have a bootable backup? Here are some steps/options:
1) If you have a bootable backup, install the hard drive, boot from the external hard drive, then use SuperDuper or CCC to copy the external hard drive to your new internal hard drive.
2) You have your old hard drive, and it's not dead. Put it into an external case and see above.
3) You don't have either a bootable backup or a working old hard drive. You can try calling Apple Support to see if they still have the original OS X disks for your system. If they do, they'll charge a nominal price for them.
4) You checked and Apple no longer has disks for your system. You can go to the used market to buy Leopard 10.5 disks. If you do, be sure and get retail black-faced disks, but don't get the black-faced disk which is an upgrade disk .... if you don't have 10.4 on your system, it won't work. Careful of gray-faced OS X disks as they are locked to the original system type they ship with. So a gray faced OS X 10.5 disk for a MacBook won't work on your iMac.
5) Another related option is to buy 10.6 Snow Leopard, if your system meets requirements. This is still sold by Apple, and in the US is available online for $29.99 from the Apple store. Snow Leopard requirements are:
Mac computer with an Intel processor
1GB of memory
5GB of available disk space
DVD drive for installation
6) Or you could consider Lion, via the USB stick that is sold in Apple stores. Lion requirements are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
2GB of memory (4GB recommended)
OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
7GB of available space

Attempt to install Mountain Lion has highlighted need for internal disk repair. Even after "repair" ML still says disk is damaged. Attempt to restore from Time Machine back-up failed - cannot 'see' internal HD to restore to. Help! Has attempt to install ML caused these problems or just highlighted existing need to Repair Disk? Even so, why can back-up from Time Machine not see the internal drive to restore to?

I'm booked in at the Apple Genius Bar in Bordeaux, France on Wed ... quite a challenge as my French isn't great! The current internal disk is 500gb, does anyone know whether I can upgrade my 21.5" iMac (circa Oct-2009 vintage) to a larger size internal disk, 1Tb or even 2Tb? I already have one external 2Tb drive and another one on order (I have masses of media stored and more planned as I've just taken up photography). Seems a bit of a pain managing with only 500gb internal storage. OR, can you advise me on how I can store all my photos on my new 2Tb external drive - I can't seem to figure out how to set the path for iPhoto to see them (I can't even figure out where they are stored right now!). Same with iTunes, how do I set the default storage to the external drive (I moved everything manually and then imported them all from the new drive - it worked but seemed very convoluted). Any advice on how to manage multiple drives gratefully received. And thanks again for previous replies.

Open the Mac App Store on the other Mac and in the Quick Links sign into your account. See if the Mountain Lion purchase is among hidden apps in the iCloud area of your account info.

that is a VMM issue.
If you did not deploy your virtual cluster from a VMM service template, VMM doesn't recognize the configuration.
Until MS got it fixed, you could use the workaround from system center central:

You should be able to:
Backup the device to the new installation
Transfer your purchases into a newly authorized library
Recover any other media using third party tools as suggested in this post from forum regular Zevoneer
Restore the device from the backup
This process should switch the association of the device to the new library, preserving the data and settings in your apps.
May also be prudent to attempt a backup to iCloud directly from the device before you start... Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > iCloud Backup > On. It won't save any media but it would preserve the general account settings and documents in case anything goes wrong while you are trying to extract your other data.
When you get it all fixed, make a backup!

Only AppleTV1 has an internal PATA drive. The largest PATA drive available is 250gb.
Hacks are available to use the USB port on AppleTV1 to access more storage.
AppleTV2 does not have an internal drive.
Why do you need more storage in your AppleTV? iTunes streams video to AppleTV so no need to store it locally. -
Hi! is it possible that Logic X has upgrades that work only with mavericks and does t work in mountain lion....since in my macbook pro with mavericks i have new views of the equalizer, etc and in my mac pro with mountain lion it still the old view...
Any OS version of 10.8.4 or later has all features that are not OS depended. The plugins are one example. You probably haven't updated all versions of Logic Pro X to the latest one.
