Mountain Lion has wiped iLife

As title says Mountainlion has wiped ILife original disks no longer installl on new Os have even borrowed my cousins isks to rule out any problem with the disk itself. I have contacted app support because i feel it's an app issue and so should be resolved by them I was given links to suppoer coverage which my Imac 2008 no longer has, nor requires. iLife was part of what we paid for , someone suggested I would have to repurchase the products from the App store.
As it was a preinstalled bundled software and included on Diska alone with the OS , I should not have to do this, Any help would be much appreciated

Here is perhaps the solution :

follow the "Ratatapa's" instructions.
1/ boot on Recovery part (command R)
2/ find "terminal" in disk utilities
and write "resetpassword" for root. Enter a new password for the root user.
3/ reboot as root user (or when your are login, log out and typing to open a other user "root")
in the "system pref" panel, open "users and groups" and then create new user with the same name, same password.. normally it must be asking you about "You are already an account with the same name" say yes. And it's done.
4/ Log out. re-log as the normal user. desactivated the root user.

Open the Mac App Store on the other Mac and in the Quick Links sign into your account. See if the Mountain Lion purchase is among hidden apps in the iCloud area of your account info.

Nope. It just opened the installer and stayed in the same loop.
It tells me to choose a startup disk but the only option is the HD which it will not use because it says it cannot gather enough information.
Eveything was working fine until the mountain lion failed install.

  • How do I know if Mountain Lion has installed properly?

How do I know if Mountain Lion has installed properly?

I can only guess that the install process was interrupted, maybe after the files were extracted but before the install, maybe on the reboot?
If it was dome ot would say version 10.8.  And you would have the reminder and notes apps as well, also an easy thing to check.

  • Now that OSX Mountain Lion has been released, can I still buy OSX Lion to update my 2009 Mac?

I have a 2009 MacBook running OSX Snow Leopard with the latest update.  I wanted to upgrade to the new Mountain Lion but I got the message that my system couldn't run it.  So now I'm wondering if I can upgrade to the Lion 10.7 OS but I can't find it anywhere in the iTunes store or the Apple online store.  Plenty of places to download the 10.7.x upgrades but not the OS.  So, is it no longer available now that Mountain Lion has been released?  Or do I have to visit a store to buy the disk?

You have to Call Apple, 1-800-My-Apple, and order it over the phone. Apple will then send you a email with a Code in it to download it from the MAS.

  • Mountain Lion has created new user log-ins and moved old Users to a separate folder

Mountain Lion has created new user log-ins and moved old Users to a separate folder.
The new users are set-up as "standard" and the old ones were "Administrators"
All files are missing, i.e. no desktop files etc. But they are located in a folder called "Users 1" which is a new folder.
    Can anyone help?

  • OS X Mountain Lion has removed iMovie?

Right after i update the software which is OS X Mountain Lion, I planning on making movie for my project, off the suddenly there is no iMovie OR it is just me.. Does it still have iMovie?

iMovie 11 version 9.0.9 is still present within OS X Mountain Lion for that iLife '11 app. So, when you upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion, you may need to do a Software Update depending on what OS you upgraded FROM.

Attempt to install Mountain Lion has highlighted need for internal disk repair. Even after "repair" ML still says disk is damaged. Attempt to restore from Time Machine back-up failed - cannot 'see' internal HD to restore to. Help! Has attempt to install ML caused these problems or just highlighted existing need to Repair Disk? Even so, why can back-up from Time Machine not see the internal drive to restore to?

Csound1, William & Sig .... thanks for taking the trouble to reply. I fear you are right - I'll need a new disk. I'm booked in at the Apple Genius Bar in Bordeaux, France on Wed ... quite a challenge as my French isn't great! The current internal disk is 500gb, does anyone know whether I can upgrade my 21.5" iMac (circa Oct-2009 vintage) to a larger size internal disk, 1Tb or even 2Tb? I already have one external 2Tb drive and another one on order (I have masses of media stored and more planned as I've just taken up photography). Seems a bit of a pain managing with only 500gb internal storage. OR, can you advise me on how I can store all my photos on my new 2Tb external drive - I can't seem to figure out how to set the path for iPhoto to see them (I can't even figure out where they are stored right now!). Same with iTunes, how do I set the default storage to the external drive (I moved everything manually and then imported them all from the new drive - it worked but seemed very convoluted). Any advice on how to manage multiple drives gratefully received. And thanks again for previous replies.

  • Mountain Lion has messed up my IMac !

On installing Mountain Lion as a upgrade on one of my studios IMac's, it would not only not install, but will now not revert back to the previous version - message is "hard drive has a problem". Now what! I can't run this computer at all - it was fine before I decided to upgrade!! Grrrrrr.

Have you tried using Disk Utility to look at and possibly repair the drive?
The proper installation of Mountain Lion (or any OS software) will not damage a disk drive, at least not at the hardware level. Perhaps the format of the drive just got messed up. What steps did you take in updating the system to ML?
If the system is still under warranty you're best course of action would be to start a service request on it.
    regards

  • Will Mountain Lion affect my iLife installations?

I have a 2011 Intel iMac, which came with 10.6.7 disks.  Soon after getting it, I upgraded to Lion.  I am about to upgrade to Mountain Lion and I am concerned that my existing iLife suite may be affected by the upgrade.  If I have a problem, where do I go to re-install the iLife material?
    Thanks in advance.

If you have any problems with your iLife (you shouldn't) then you would use your install disk to re-install them.

  • Updating to Mountain Lion has caused me to lose Adobe Creative Suite - is it possible to upgrade?

I have recently had to upgrade to mountain lion for my new iPhone 5, however this has caused me to loose my much loved Adobe Creative Suite. As soon the upgrade was completed my photoshop, illustrator and acrobat icons had a white symbol over them that looks like a no entry sign. When I click on it a pop up window appears that says 'You can't open the application because PowerPC applications are not supported. It is an old version of creative suite (the first I think) but I can't afford to buy a new one. Does anyone know whether its possible to upgrade or a solution?

It must be a very old version of Adobe. I run CS4 and my son runs CS5 with no issues and I believe CS3 can run under ML although I have not seen it as such, only read it here.
Upgrading is expensive but well worth it if you use Adobe regularly. You can always run Snow Leopard on another partition or external drive and run your old AdobeCS within that if you want.
    Good Luck

  • Purchased mountain lion has dissapeared

I purchased Mountain Lion about 3 weeks ago - Apple seemed reluctant to sell it to me, they kept offering Mavericks for free where as ML was to cost $22 per computer.
I don't want Mavericks, so many people have complained about it that I'd rather stay on earlier operating systems, but my laptops have to be as current as I can cope with - they are running Lion. I thought Mountain Lion would keep me closer so I purchased it. Three four days ago I downloaded it - thsi involved unlocking an encrypted PDF and using the code inside that to initiate the download.
The download started but seemed to go very slowly (we have a fast connection). I went off and did some backing up of other systems, when I returned the download seemed to have ended but there was no sign of the DMG. I have searched the usual places, Applications, Downloads, Dock with no success. Spotlight cannot find it, listing activity by date doesn't show it..
I returned to the store and they say it has been downloaded and cannot be downloaded again. If I persist they say "there is a problem".
    What can I do?
    Any thoughts?

  • Download of update in Mountain Lion has disabled my Wifi.  Why

For at least the third time, I have downloaded an update to Mountain Lion and it has disabled my wifi!  Why?  Can anyone help?

The pop up saying there were updates to my OS (Mountain Lion) available and I chose the Update button which restarted my MacBook.  When it restarted, it would no longer connect to the Wifi.  When I went to Network Preferences, the Wifi is turned off and will not allow me to turn back on.  Additionally, the device does not recognize any networks and just continues to "search" for them.
This is the 3rd time this has happened to me when downloading updates to the OS!  Every other time has required support to get involved.  I am wondering how many other people this has happened to?

  • Mountain Lion has broke the hard disk

I have a Macbook Pro 13' (Mid 2010) with LION which has always worked very properly.
    -Wednesday 25th
On Wednesday 25th I've bought (16€) and instald Mac OS X Mountain Lion. The laptop seems too slow for me but I didn't mind at that moment, before going to sleep I shutted down the macbook pro.
    -Thursday 26th
The next day, when I tried to turn on, it stayed at the white screen with the apple and thinking. I tried it for several times, and at one of them after 10 minutes the os started but it worked incredibly slow (It was imposible to shut down it normaly). I called to apple care, they told me to enter in recovery mode and verify the disk. I do it and all was ok. I restarted and as before the mac didn't started or at least started and worked very slow.
    -Friday 27th
I tried to turn on the laptop with the recovery mode, but I had no response of the macbook pro,it stayed with the white screen. I called again to apple care and after some times I could enter to the recovery mode, but this time the were important errors at verifing the disk and it was impossible to fix it.
So I went to apple premium reseller near to my home. They found all the hardware ok with their test but they told me to open the laptop and change the hard disk (paying 200€) to solve the problem. I sayed thank you very much and I took a quote at the Genius Bar in the Apple Store for the afternoon. They found all the hardware ok again but they weren't able to fix the problem by this moment. So they told my to leave the computer and they would reinstall mountain lion from 0, without any cost.
After 3 hours I've recevied a call from the Apple Store telling my that the hard disk was broken and I've to pay for a new one (150€).
They are not taking into account that the laptop was ok and by installing the new OS and making all the test and restarts that they told me to do are the cause of hard disk's rupture.
What can I do? What do you recomend to me?
    Thank you very much.
P.S. : I've always loved my Macbook Pro and I haven't had any problem with it or with Apple, all have worked perfect until this moment and know I feel helpless.
