Mountain lion install crashes-corrupted download

Twice now, after lengthy downloads to my 27" IMac running 10.6.8. the mountain lion install crashed in the early stages with the same error message that the download is corrupted. please delete the install package from the application folder and repeat the download. After the second try, I decided to try downloading Lion which I purchased early this year but never downloaded.
Any suggestions?

The installation could not be completed because errors were found on your drive. Boot up again while holding down the option key and the select Recovery partition. From there, open Disk Utility and first verify and then, if needed, repair the disk "Macintosh HD". If your drive is 'fixable' this will repair any errors.

  • Mountain Lion install crash on Mac Pro

    Hi,
Just started the install on my Early 2008 Mac Pro and it's completely crashed the system. The app downloaded fine and ran OK in 10.7 doing the setup and then tried to reboot. As soon as it rebooted I get a Kernel Panic and the 'Please Power Off your System'.
I've managed to get into Recovery Mode and am going to restore from Time Machine and try again but has anyone else had this?
There were no warnings or errors before the kernel panic at all.......
    Thanks,

    This worked for me....
    Restart
During restart, hold Ctrl + Command + P + R to reset the PRAM
After this, the computer will flash and reboot again and should boot into the Mountain Lion Installer.
    Good luck.

  • Mountain lion install; now file downloads stop

Since I've installed mountain lion, when I download larger files from the web (apps or music) and the computer is left inactive during the download, the download uncerimoniously stops.
I'm using a wireless connection (same one I had before installing mountain lion).
I've forbidden the computer from going to sleep for one hour (display still goes to sleep at default 15 minutes). This hasn't helped the problem at all. It seems that if I am not using the machine (a 2011 imac) and any download is active.... it does not remain so.
This can be quite annoying when downloading larger files.
    Thanks for your help.

Hey @silvergc, I've tried caffeine for a while and it seems to work, but what I've been trying to set up is some default pass for my torrent client — much as iTunes automatically prevents my MB from going to sleep while playing music.
For this purpose, I've used both $ pmset and $ caffeinate commands in Terminal (see: http://useyourloaf.com/blog/2012/08/09/keeping-mountain-lion-awake.html ) but unfortunately the end result is pretty much the same: if I quit Terminal the power assertion is cancelled and computer sleeps after preset interval of time.
(= whether using Caffeine, caffeinate commands or setting system preferences to "never" sleep, I end up having to manually configure/set this up every time, and turn off on task completion.)
I just wish there was a simpler way... Ideally, my Mac would sense when download is completed and then go to sleep (i.e. regardless if is still uploading). Any suggestions anyone?
@Jon I find it a bit weird that your computer stops downloading even on screen sleep (CPU still awake) since I haven't experienced this myself — can you tell me a bit more about the problem?

  • Mountain Lion instalation crash on late 2008 macbook pro

    Hey,
Since about a week I am trying to install mountain lion on my macbook pro (late 2008).
I'v tried to perform normal instal from snow leopard I also tried to install it from USB drive.
Anyway installation always crashes after this line in log (I tried to save full log but it causes crash too ... )
    Module: PlistFile - ODQueryCreateWithNode completed
by crash I mean autoreboot and information about "restart caused by an error ath the beggining".

Are you just trying to do the upgrade, or did you completely reformat and try to install it from scratch?
I would try that if you haven't already. Back up your important stuff first, then when you boot from USB, open Disk Utility (comes with the installer) and completely re-format your hard drive with the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) file system.
If that still doesn't work, I would take it to an Apple Store.

  • I've done several times to download version of the Mountain Lion, all is corrupted, how to proceed?

I've done several times to download version of the Mountain Lion, all is corrupted, how to proceed?

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico, Spanish is my native tongue. I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
Are you running a firewall or anti-viral software that could be corrupting the file as it downloads? If so, disable the software for the Mt Lion download.

  • Mountain Lion install results in blank gray screen.

I recently downloaded and installed Mountain Lion on my wife's late-2007 iMac.  Unfortunately, each time, after the installer finishes and reboots, the computer sticks at a blank gray screen where normally the Apple logo would appear while things boot in the background.  I have tried restoring from Time Capsule and re-downloading then reinstalling, but it produces the same result.
With the gray screen problem present, I've tried a Safe Boot, holding down Option to select a disk to boot from (nothing comes up when I do this, just the mouse cursor), and resetting the PRAM/NVRAM.  I haven't really been able to find anyone else having this particular issue. The hard drive in the iMac is a little over a year old as we had to replace the old one.  And from what my wife read, the late-2007 iMacs are Mountain Lion compatible.

saw this in another thread about a macbook pro slowing up after OSX Mountain Lion install:
the  mac owner had mentioned his mac going very slow, and was told it could take several days for the new OSX to sort things out. Perhaps this explains my issue and perhaps yours.
"Yes this can be the case, even slow shutdowns and startups. But Hardisk space can also be a factor. Anything below the 10Gig mark of space left can cause extreme slowdowns."

  • Purchased Mountain Lion and the initial download had an error and now it's stuck doing nothing

I was on 10.6.8 and purchased Mountain Lion. It started downloading and when I came back to check on it, the icon was gone from the dock. Looked under purchases in the App Store and it said "An error has occured". It would not let me download again there. Went to the main page in the App Store again and clicked to purchase/install. Got the you already purchased this message and I could click the download button here. Got the Mountain Lion icon to drop into my dock again but it has "Waiting" when I roll over it. I have restarted my computer and am only able to do the same actions I described above. Please help.

    anyone?

  • Mountain lion install disk

i want to make a mountain lion installer disc on a 16gb flash drive for my new macbook air with 10.8.4 already on it (as anybody would), but when i try to option-click the buy button at the app store it says "we could not complete your purchase osx mountain lion is not compatible with this computer". As it's a new computer, this implies an issue--does anyone know what it might be? --BTW following david pogue's mountain lion bk instructions, p 796 here--he also mentions that apple used to sell installer disks with 'lion', but stopped--[wish they hadn't]. i'm off to buy a hard drive so i can archive the whole lot & do it that way--but honestly, apple folks!
    thanks

The Mid 2013 MacBook Air includes a special 10.8.4 build that can't be downloaded from the Mac App Store, so this is the reason why you see a message telling you that Mountain Lion is not compatible with your MacBook Air.
This also means that you can't create a Mountain Lion install USB drive until Apple launches a new OS X update, like 10.8.5, so all Macs will be using the same version and you will be able to download OS X. Anyway, in a new Mac, it's possible that you can only get OS X Mountain Lion from OS X Recovery, preventing you from creating an install USB drive.
What you can do is to use Recovery Disk Assistant > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4848 Note that this won't include the installer, so OS X will have to be downloaded from Internet

  • Mountain Lion Install Errors

I have a mid 2012 Mac Mini, The kids had used this Mac for 6 months, So I needed it back, It had OSX Lion, the idea was to erase, format and reinstall Mountain Lion, run Disk first aid, everything good.
Already had Mountain Lion on my mid 2012 MacBook Pro, Mountain Lion install went perfect last month on the MBP with a reformatted, erased drive.
So on the mini I went to the app store and downloded Mountain Lion, Installed it twice, both times a "Damaged File" error occurred, downloaded 3 more times uninterupted, still same error, restarted and downloaded ML twice via WiFi, New error, "Install Failed" both times, Downloaded ML on my MBP, made a USB stick install drive, twice with "Install Failed" error.
Do I have a 15 month old brick, I convinced my new wife that Macs are more stable and last longer as I have owned Macs since 1995, Help.

Have you tried running Apple Diagnostics to see if there are any hardware errors showing up?

  • My Mountain Lion mac crashes after resuming from sleep

    Hello
My Mountain Lion mac crashes after resuming from sleep every time I use it
It happens every time the mac resumes from sleep and it started like a week ago
I remember installing the new updates for flash? and xquartz and nothing else.
I have also had microsoft word installed on my mac for about 1 weeks before this problem started so might be related to that
Please share with me any tips on how to fix this because I am really annoyed of losing stuff after each time my mac resumes from sleep

I have an iMac bought may -11, and it worked fine with Snow Leopard.
About a week ago I bought and installed Mountain Lion 10.8.2. Everything went fine, and all software worked ok. iPhoto had some problems, but after installing update the system prompted to do, it has worked ok.
The propblem occurs now and then, when computer is waked up from sleep. The Desktop occurs, but no software starts, not even System Tools untlil rebooting the computer. Of course, I can not reboot the computer from "Apple menu", but holding the power button down.
This is very embarassing! OsX Mountain Lion has turned out to be a very big disappointment. I installed id because of iCloud (i have a new iPad, too with iOs 6 installed).
Can anyone help me? Is there any other way to solve the problem than re-installing good old Snow Leopard?
I would not like to do that, I bought Mac because I was bored in re-installing and recovering!
    Thank you

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Select "/var/log/install.log" from the file list. Post the messages from the last installation or update attempt, starting from the time when you initiated it. If you're not sure when that was, start over and note the time.
Post the log text, please, not a screenshot. If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into a message.

  • HT4718 Mountain lion install- no recovery hd error

I am trying to install mountain loin and keeping getting"can't install-no recovery hd" error.. I have installed mountain lion on an external drive as suggested but when I try to install afterwards back on the MacBook it still says it can't install due to no recovery hd. I have been trying for 2 days now, HELP please.

I have mountain lion installed on the ext HD. I don't know if it has a recovery HD or not, I just did the install from the downloaded app. The app was on the MacBook pro drive. Now the MacBook will not boot at all. It just shows the apple logo and a spinning loading symbol but doesn't come on. I don't know how to boot from the external drive.

  • Durin Mountain lion install, Mac loops endlesslu as pert of restart

During Mountain Lion install, the Mac loops forever on restart.  Download seemed to go ok, albeit very slow, bt now it is trying to restart continuously.  What can I do from here?  Thank you.

I am assuming that it was Lion Recovery that allowed me to do that.
    Yes.
I do have antivirus  installed, so I guess my next step would be to disable that and turn off the firewall, then try the install again.  That will have to happen another day, as I have to work on other things. Thank you!
Ok. Keep us posted ...  you're welcome

  • I bought a macbook pro with Mountain Lion installed.  Can I install a copy of mountain lion on my other mac for free?

I bought a Macbook pro with Mountain Lion. Can I install Mountain Lion on my other mac for free? How do I do that? Thanks!

On the bright side, it's only $20.
And I would certainly like to have the ownership (and even a copy of the installer on my archive drive), "just in case."
Here are some questions -- which I cannot test because it's not my situation:
Has anyone acquired a pre-owned Mac with Mountain Lion installed but which shipped with an earlier OS version? For those in that circumstance:
Have you been able to apply Mountain Lion update(s)?
How about reinstall ML with Recovery HD?
After either updating or reinstalling, does ML appear in Purchases in App Store?
    Just curious.

  • Can't open pics in Preview since Mountain Lion install

Hi - I use Preview to open my iPhoto pics and then save them at a smaller resolution for using on my web pages, blogs, emails etc. It's a bit cumbersome but it works. Now, since I upgraded to Mountain Lion on my MacBook (so it will sync documents with my iPad) blow me - I find I can't open files in Preview! I get a box headed 'icloud for Preview.' The text then says: 'You can move your existing documents to icloud by dragging them here from the finder or other apps.' There's then an option to cancel, and a greyed-out box saying Open, but of course I can't open anything! It means, really, that I have lost the ability to edit my pictures with Preview. Is this right? And is there anything I can do about it? Also, I notice my iPhoto icon has disappeared from my Finder so I can't open iPhoto from there. It's all happened since the Mountain Lion install. Can anyone help, please?

I don't know about your Preview problem and I am interested to see responses about it.
When you say no iPhoto in Finder. Do you mean iPhoto is not listed in the Applications folder? If you do a Finder search on iPhoto is it found. Mine is in "Bobs HD>Applications
