Mountain Lion Internet only available through Chrome

I have a 17-inch, early 2009 MacBook Pro. 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.
After installing Mountain Lion everything was working fine for a couple of days, then suddenly I could no longer access the internet through Safari. At the same time Mail stopped connecting to the server. The last email I was able to receive was at 10.00am GMT on Friday 27th July. Tried opening the Software Update/App Store window. It does not connect either. The pop-up window states "App Store cannot verify a secure connection with the App Store" When I click "connect anyway" the open window flashes, strobe like, between black and white.
My Wi-Fi connection is active and I can access the internet using Google Chrome. In fact I'm typing this on Chrome on the same Mac. iTunes Store connects, Dashboard connects as does DropBox.
Can anyone help?

I have almost exactly the same problem - but using ethernet, so it's not specific to wifi.
Got a brand spankin' new i7 imac today, took it out of the box, upgraded to Mountain Lion. Internet connectivity seems ok otherwise, but attempting to load the app store does exactly what dnd stated. Likewise, (although I hope there's none yet), software update forces the app store to launch, then gets the warning error, then the app store screen flickers like crazy between "cannot connect to the app store" and a black screen filling the app store window.

I signed up for my apple account while living in Canada, and now I lives in the US. I am looking for a specific app that apparently is only available through the US app store. How can I change my account to the US Apple Store?

As long as you have a form of payment (credit or debit card) with a USA source, and with a billing address in the USA, then you just need to change your payment information on your account to that, change your country in the store settings, and you will then be able to shop in the USA store.
Your AppleID will work in any country's store, as long as your payment source and billing addres are also specific to that country (and you are in that country as well, as there may be IP filters in place to stop use outside of the country).

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and  Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Is it true that Mountain Lion will only work on the latest (within the last 3 years) Macs?

I have read somewhere that the developers version of Mountain Lion would only work on the latest Macs and I was wondering whether the soon to be released version will be the same.

They have published this list of compatible machines.

I use to use ichat and now with Mountain Lion I only have FaceTime, will this work as easy as ichat? I try to keep in touch with my son and his family, he has a Mac also. I have never tried to do a video chat with my new Mountain Lion. I have set-up FaceTime and thought I would throw the question out before we try and get together.   Thanks,   Gilbert

Ichat is now called Messages and is in your Applications folder.

  • Internet Recovery does not show Mountain Lion install, only Lion

My mid 2010 Mac mini came with Snow Leapord. In August I upgraded to Mountain Lion.
Now I want to do a internert recovery, to do a fresh install of Mountain Lion.
When I boot setup from the Internet I can only choose Lion, then it ask for my apple ID. I hoped it would then offer Mountain Lion, but it says you have not purchased Lion so can not setup.

If you are using the same Apple ID that you used to purchase ML, then something is wrong.

  • Itunes store tells me the os x mountain lion is not available on the Swiss store, how can I download it ?

Please help me in downloading os x mountain lion

    Check your processor version:
If your processor is a PowerPC processor then you are out of luck. Apple only made Mountian Lion for Intel processors. Your best option would be to upgrade to Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
If your processor is an Intel processor then you could possibly upgrade to Mountain Lion. In order to do that you will need to upgrade first to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and then you will be able to get Mountian Lion through the app store.

  • Using Mac (non-Mountain Lion) to send iMessages through iPhone

My Mac at work doesn't have Mountain Lion, my cell signal is minimal to non-existant, and I don't have a Wi-Fi signal. Can I connect my iPhone and somehow use the Internet connection to send iMessages through the iPhone?

Returning to this one more time…a coworker with an iMac that has an Airport card is able to share his Internet connection via Wifi, but this isn't feasible because he isn't nearby my computer.
Because my Mac Pro (2007) does not have an Airport card, I am unable to share via Wifi. However, I am wondering if I connect my Ethernet cable (Internet that does IN to the computer) to an Airport Express, and then back to the computer, can I then share the Internet connection through Wifi?
Simply put, is there a way to create a Wifi signal from my Mac Pro (without having to install an Airport card, which also isn't feasible)?

  • Wordpress sites are not displaying correctly on my mac after mountain lion upgrade (on all browsers - chrome, safari, firefox)

I am having trouble viewing anything that is on wordpress, including the wordpress site. This means I cannot view my own wordpress blog too properly - no images are viewable, only plain text and hyperlinked text. This happened immediately after I upgraded to Mountain Lion. My Mac is mid-2010. Everything else works fine. Thanks.

The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • HT2404 Mountain Lion will not download through the apps store.  It shows up in Launchpad, but when the screensaver goes on and I enter my password and my desktop shows up, it has disappeared from launchpad.  I have set my energy saver controls appropriate

Mountain lion will not download thru the apps store.  It has been purchased and redeemed.  I have set my energy settings appropriately so computer will not turn off during download as Verizon offers a connection that is very slow.  I have set the display to go to sleep (which I have set so I have to sign in again).  When I sign in again, Mountain Lion OSX has disappeared from the launchpad.  I have tried this several times.  I do have Norton Internet Security on my Mac Air.  I turned off the idle time scan on the Norton and tried again.  Same results.  Anyone?

Ask anyone around here, and they will tell you quite differently. AV software will slow down your computer, can be incompatible with software you use, can cause kernel panics and other problems. It is unnecessay since OS X has it's own protection built-in. AV software can no more tell the difference between safe and unsafe sites on your browser than could an elephant.

  • Mountain Lion, internet network question

Since downloading & installing OS X Mountain Lion, my WiFi network times out when I put my computer to sleep after using the internet. How can I manipulate the WiFi settings so that I don't have to choose my own network and enter my password each time?

I really appreciate any responses or opinions. I have found the Apple Support communities to be amazingly helpful so far.
    Thank you again!

  • Will mountain lion upgrade be available for all my computers

when i upgrade to mountain lion on one computer, can I download to all my other macs?

    Mountain Lion requirements.
To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.
iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) model number 7,1 or higher
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) model number 5,1 or higher
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) model number 2,1 or higher
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
Xserve (Early 2009) model number 3,1 or higher
    Your Mac needs:
OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
2 GB or more of memory (More is better - 4 GB minimum seems to be the consensus)
8 GB or more of available space

  • Mountain Lion Notes only syncs notes created on Mac

I have a MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion using Notes, and an Adroid smartphone running Jelly Bean using GNotes. Both are synced to Gmail for my note taking. The issue I am having with this setup, like most, lyes within the syncing.
Notes created on my Mac are viewable, and editable on my Mac, in Gmail, and in GNotes. But Notes created in Gmail or in Gnotes are only viewable and editable in those enviorments, my Mac does not see these notes. Can anyone help me to understand why this isand possibly resolve the issue?

    Apparently a bug.
You NEED a @me account for Notes to work properly, even though you can enter your iCloud info within the Notes App.
Probably will be fixed in OSX 10.9, Mountain Puma.

  • Mountain Lion internet reinstall will not restart Macbook to complete

Hi guys, this is my first time on the forums even though I have owned Macbooks for almost 8 years. Any help will be appreciated. The hardware is:
    2011 Macbook Pro 13"  Intel I5
    4g Ram
    320g HDD
    running Mountain Lion 10.8.2
It started when I noticed programs freezing after a complete HDD backup from Carbon Copy Cloner to my NAS, which I share with about 2 other IMacs and a PC. I had to hard shut down the Macbook (via power button) because it was so bad. After a 10 min rest, I restarted and to my suprise a loud rapid metalic clicking started and would not stop. After a few restarts with rest times the clicking stopped but the apple startup logo was replaced with a "no folder" logo. I figured "Well, I need to reformat the machine", which I have done in the past with the IMacs. Command R to the disk utility and then to the repair disk showed me I had a "Backup and reformat" message, that the disk could not be repaired. I then erased and renamed the disk which is now 425mb of occupied space of a 319g HDD. I quit the disk utility and into the "Reinstall Mountain Lion" and  after the liscense agreement and apple id login the download was underway.
The problem is that when the download is complete, the machine just sits with no "automatic restart". I restarted it and boots to the recovery, with an option to "reinstall Mountain Lion". But when selected, it wants to start the download process all over again. No matter how many times I restart, it will not complete the Mountain Lion reinstallation.
I checked the disk utility and noticed that the occupied space is now about 760mb. So the OSX image is downloaded. I presume.
    Any suggestions??

Please email me and I can send these pics to you as I have no way to adjust the size here, I guess.
