On this MBA,
with the standard DHCP address allocation (I mean no manual fix to start with),
could you first validate that your Wireless network is usable?
For example, open a Terminal and run:
    ping -c 100 192.168.2.1
Wich will test your connectivity with your iMac.
How many packet do you lose?

  • Mountain Lion Internet Sharing has no DNS

    I enabled Internet Sharing on My iMac..
    Connected via WiFi with my MBA.
    The MBA was dynamically assgined an IP address 192.168.2.4.
    But the nating for the DNS from the iMac to the MBA is non existant. I set the DNS manually to the IP of the iMac but it made no difference.
    Anyone have any clue how to nat the DNS from the host to the client??
    Worked perfectly in lion. Upgraded to Moutain Lion and the whole thing went to ****!!
    ideas?

  • OS X Lion internet sharing is so slow on iPad

    OS X Lion internet sharing is so slow on iPad, Snow Leopard worked smoothly. Anyone having the same problem? Any work arounds?

    Same problem here. I can share over my airport wifi network but it is dirt slow. Trying to copy a 300 meg file from one computer's desktop to another and the progress bar is saying 45 minutes and is just crawling.
    I'm sure an update is coming but this is frustrating.
    Safari and internet in general is much slower/laggish compared to my desktop which is still on Snow Leopard.

  • Windows 7 wont connect to Lion Internet Sharing via Wifi

    I have a 2011 Macbook Pro 15" with i7. I know the internet sharing feature works, because I used the wifi internet sharing with a Macbook Air and that worked fine. But when I try to connect from a Windows 7 Ultimate laptop, the connection cannot be established. I tried:
    Changing the Wireless Name
    Changing the encryption key
    Tried no encryption key
    Rebooted
    Am I missing someting? Am I correct to assume that the built in internet sharing allows you to connect your devices to macbook pro as a router? I appreciate your assistance, thanks!

    Same here.
    I have all my machines (rather HAD) connected to the internet via a shared single connection through a 3G dongle (welcome to the countryside). I made the mistake of upgrading my machine to Lion only to realise a couple of days later that all the other machines had been starved of internet access.
    Now only my main machine has access, even though according to all of my thousands worth of apple gear the green lights are on and all is ok. The Airport extreme says it's connected, its lying. The Timecapsule says its connected, its lying. The Mac mini says its connected, its actually admits there is a problem when you run the network diagnostics. Same for our macbook pro. At least the Windows machine says it's connected but no internet.
    This is pathetic as apple have know there was an issue since june last year. Once more I get the feeliing Apple couldn't give a fiddlers'. Most likely greedily eyeing the forthcoming cash bonanza from the ipad 3.

  • Mountain Lion Internet only available through Chrome

    I have a 17-inch, early 2009 MacBook Pro. 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.
    After installing Mountain Lion everything was working fine for a couple of days, then suddenly I could no longer access the internet through Safari. At the same time Mail stopped connecting to the server. The last email I was able to receive was at 10.00am GMT on Friday 27th July. Tried opening the Software Update/App Store window. It does not connect either. The pop-up window states "App Store cannot verify a secure connection with the App Store" When I click "connect anyway" the open window flashes, strobe like, between black and white.
    My Wi-Fi connection is active and I can access the internet using Google Chrome. In fact I'm typing this on Chrome on the same Mac. iTunes Store connects, Dashboard connects as does DropBox.
    Can anyone help?

    I have almost exactly the same problem - but using ethernet, so it's not specific to wifi.
    Got a brand spankin' new i7 imac today, took it out of the box, upgraded to Mountain Lion. Internet connectivity seems ok otherwise, but attempting to load the app store does exactly what dnd stated. Likewise, (although I hope there's none yet), software update forces the app store to launch, then gets the warning error, then the app store screen flickers like crazy between "cannot connect to the app store" and a black screen filling the app store window.

  • Lion internet sharing/ audio output not working even after reading through/ following other threads

    Hi, since updatig to Lion my iMac internet sharing is not working i have renamed to a shorter name as advised in other threads but this still does't work I wish to share my ethernet connection wirelessly but after turning it on i can never get the arrow symbol on the top bar. Also i can only play audio through the built in speakers but no headphones/external speakers even after playing with the audio midi settings as seen in other posts but no such luck.

    First, see if you can change the "Play audio using:" selection in Edit > Preferences > Playback - if you select Direct Audio rather than Windows Audio Session this may address the issue.  Note, however, that the Direct Audio option seems to be unavailable in some cases for Windows 8.1.
    Otherwise, there is an alternative downloader for 64-bit editions of Windows here:
    iTunes 12.1 for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards)
    that seems to address the playback issues that some users have been reporting with the full 64-bit version (the alternative installer here is the same architecture as most previous "64-bit" versions of iTunes, i.e., a 32-bit application with a 64-bit installer).  The "for older video cards" label appears to be something of a misnomer as some people have reported that this corrects problems found on current / high-spec systems.
    After installing this alternative version it may still be necessary to adjust the "Play audio using:" selection in Edit > Preferences > Playback to restore glitch-free audio.

  • Downloading mountain lion and sharing between 2 macs

    When mountain lion is released how do I go about sharing the download between a I Mac and my daughters mac book pro wihich I bought and she uses. I believe Apple allows one paid download to be shared between 5 macs you own . I have a I tunes account and my daughter has her account on each of respective pc . Is it legal to do this in Apples eyes or am I allowed , and if iam how do I go about it thanks

    You will have the opportunity to purchase ML from the App Store using your Apple ID while signed in from a Snow Leopard or Lion system. You would then do the same for the other computer running Snow Leopard or Lion by signing in with the same Apple ID and re-downloading.

  • NSSharingService on mountain lion without sharing window

    On mountain lion, I try the new sharing possiblities with the NSSharingService class of AppKit.framework
    Everything goes fine with this three lines of code
    NSArray* array = @[ @"myText", [NSImage imageNamed:@"myImageFile"] ];
    NSSharingService* sharingServiceFB = [NSSharingService sharingServiceNamed:NSSharingServiceNamePostOnFacebook];
    [sharingServiceFB performWithItems:array];
    But, when I run this code awindow appears asking me if I want to "Publish" or "Cancel"
    I'd like to do the same sharing without this window generated by the performWithItems function.
    As I'm considering that the user of my application don't want to confirm.
    I've looked in the NSSharingService reference and I don't see any functions that can help me.
    I figure that I need send a "Publish" command to this window. I'm new to objective c and I don't really know how to figure it out (or even if it's the best solution).
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks etresoft.
    Learning the facebook API and building an app is one way.
    I'm trying to find the quickiest way, at first.
    The only way I managed that is using a virtuall mouse with this kind of command from an other program
                CGPoint pt;
                pt.x = 1000;
                pt.y = 400;
                CGEventRef moveMouse = CGEventCreateMouseEvent (NULL,kCGEventMouseMoved,pt,NULL);
                CGEventPost (kCGHIDEventTap, moveMouse);
    CGEventRef cam move, click, drag, ...like an real mouse.
    So, I'm using it to click on the publish button.
    It's not a great solution but it works.
    I wonder if it's possible in macOS developpement to have a pointer on a window (the front window of an application for example) and sends command to it (like enter-which means public in my case- or cancel).

  • Mountain Lion, internet network question

    Since downloading & installing OS X Mountain Lion, my WiFi network times out when I put my computer to sleep after using the internet. How can I manipulate the WiFi settings so that I don't have to choose my own network and enter my password each time?

    I really appreciate any responses or opinions. I have found the Apple Support communities to be amazingly helpful so far.
    Thank you again!

  • Advanced: differences in Lion internet sharing bootpd.plist?

    Hi all,
    I'm afraid this question is quite specific. I'm trying to get my Kindle set up using internet sharing over wifi from my macbook. I've read on these forums that to do this requires changing a tag in the bootpd.plist file created by internet sharing. This tag that needs to be edited is "reply_threshold_seconds" (the problem is that the kindle aways uses 0 in the "number of seconds since boot" field of the dhcp request packet, and the mac has a filter of 4).
    I'm running Lion and in my bootpd,plist file this tag does not exist. I even tried adding it to the file with no result. I wondered if anyone could confirm whether the way OSX handles this has indeed changed with Lion; and if so it would be amazing if anyone had any advice?
    Thanks a lot,
    Roland

    If you use your MacBook Pro as the "server" connected to the Internet. you can connect 27" 2011 iMac to your MacBook Pro via a FireWire 800 cable. (assuming your MBP has a FireWire output, I don't own one).By using Target Disk Mode (Hold down the "T" key until you see "spinning gears" on Restart or Start-up).
    Your MBP will appear as a Hard Disk on your 27" display or your 27" iMac can be displayed as a Hard disc on your MBP display.
    Switch the firewall off on both machines (if it was on) to see if it helps;
    Try to connect using a different device to the shared connection (another computer, smartphone, iPad, etc.);
    Use an open connection first (no password), before trying with WEP;
    Reverse the roles of the two computers (i.e. try sharing the connection from the MBP to the iMac).
    Also, more details might help (OS X version on the machines, whether you are trying to share a wired connection, installed software which might interact with the network connections, etc.)
    Hope this helps in some way.

  • Lion internet sharing

    I can't connect to the internet from my Ipad2, using the internet sharing after upgrade to Lion.
    The Ipad2 shows that Wi-Fi conection is OK! But Safari and others App, doesn't conect to the internet.
    Why? On the Snow Leopard it worked very well, but on Lion it's down!

    I had the same problem. (And other problems, too. Sharing my ethernet connection via wifi worked for a while after installing Lion, but it soon got buggy, resulting in total inability to share connections and, eventually, inability to turn on Airport at all, and when I would launch System Preferences I'd get the "not responding" beachball and have to force quit System Preferences.)
    I suspected that there was something wrong with a preference file. First, I deleted two invisible files and restarted. Those were "com.apple.preference.internet.plist" and "com.apple.preferences.sharing.plist". (I chose those by name only, not because I have any idea what function they actually serve.) I re-entered all my previous preferences, including 128-bit security. Same problems recurred. After again deleting those two files and restarting, I chose 40-bit encryption (in in the Wi-Fi Options portion of the Sharing Preference pane) and everything's working fine for the time being. I hope this works for you and that Apple fixes this (and the fact that MobileMe calendars no longer sync reliably in Lion) soon.

  • Mountain Lion internet reinstall will not restart Macbook to complete

    Hi guys, this is my first time on the forums even though I have owned Macbooks for almost 8 years. Any help will be appreciated. The hardware is:
    2011 Macbook Pro 13"  Intel I5
    4g Ram
    320g HDD
    running Mountain Lion 10.8.2
    It started when I noticed programs freezing after a complete HDD backup from Carbon Copy Cloner to my NAS, which I share with about 2 other IMacs and a PC. I had to hard shut down the Macbook (via power button) because it was so bad. After a 10 min rest, I restarted and to my suprise a loud rapid metalic clicking started and would not stop. After a few restarts with rest times the clicking stopped but the apple startup logo was replaced with a "no folder" logo. I figured "Well, I need to reformat the machine", which I have done in the past with the IMacs. Command R to the disk utility and then to the repair disk showed me I had a "Backup and reformat" message, that the disk could not be repaired. I then erased and renamed the disk which is now 425mb of occupied space of a 319g HDD. I quit the disk utility and into the "Reinstall Mountain Lion" and  after the liscense agreement and apple id login the download was underway.
    The problem is that when the download is complete, the machine just sits with no "automatic restart". I restarted it and boots to the recovery, with an option to "reinstall Mountain Lion". But when selected, it wants to start the download process all over again. No matter how many times I restart, it will not complete the Mountain Lion reinstallation.
    I checked the disk utility and noticed that the occupied space is now about 760mb. So the OSX image is downloaded. I presume.
    Any suggestions??

      Please email me and I can send these pics to you as I have no way to adjust the size here, I guess.

  • Internet sharing from Wifi to Ethernet is not working after Mountain Lion upgrade

    First I was having trouble just connecting these two, now I can't get the Internet sharing to work. Here's what I am trying to do: I want to share my Macbook Pro's internet connection from it's Wifi to another laptop I have connected via ethernet cable. They will ping each other now. The problem now is that the laptop won't pick up the Internet connection from the Macbook Pro, even though I have it configured exactly as I had in Snow Leopard. Nothing has changed on the laptop from before when it worked fine with Snow Leopard. But now that I updated to Mountain Lion, Internet sharing no longer works no matter what I try. I've been trying to find a solution by to no avail. Could anyone here offering some advice or a solution that will fix my problem? I've been over the basic steps over and over again, so please don't ask me to do something stupid like reboot or check the Sharing settings. They're exactly how they are meant to be, but the thing just won't work.

    Ran a TCPdump on my Macbook Pro. It is recieving the ping requests, but the laptop still isn't getting replies to its pings. So something is wrong in the Macbook's configuration somewhere. I don't know where, though.

  • Aperture email sharing (Outlook) not working since upgrade to mountain lion

    Just upgraded to Mountain Lion and sharing of photos via email no longer works.  I've seen posts of problems with Apple mail; but not sure if others are having this issue with outlook.  When I choose 1 or multtiple photos to share vioa email; it goes through an export process, Outlook dialogue email opens, but NO attachements or files embedded.
    This worked fine before upgrade; others experienced or have solution?  I can certainly send photos the "old fashioned" way; but at 10mb a photo, not practical.  Very frustrating.

    I have found it. It seems that in Lion we had to convert the filename from Mac native to Posix format, in mountain lion this is no longer necessary. If you want to modify the script here are the instructions:
    Finder->Applications. Right click on Aperture and choose "Open package contents"
    Contents->Plugins. Open "Microsoft Outlook.applescript" (with the applescript editor)
    You should see the following 3 lines:
    -- convert the image path from UNIX to Mac
    set this_imagefile_path to (POSIX file this_imagefile) as string
    make new attachment at new_message with properties {file:(this_imagefile_path)}
    these should be replaced with this line:
    make new attachment at new_message with properties {file:(this_imagefile)}
    You are not allow to directly edit this file so save a duplicate somewhere.
    Rename the original script file.
    Copy the modified file to the Contents->Plugins folder of the package. It has to be called "Microsoft Outlook.applescript"
    You will probably be asked for your password a number of times.
