Mountain lion login logs

How can I view login attempts on mountain lion? I see the following when search for login in the Console.
2013-06-01 11:00:25.493 PM loginwindow[41]: *** WARNING: -[NSImage compositeToPoint:fromRect:operation:fraction:] is deprecated in MacOSX 10.8 and later. Please use -[NSImage drawAtPoint:fromRect:operation:fraction:] instead.

Still no Go.
I log off my account and  incorrectly  enter the password, Then I  log back in with the correct credentials,  go back to console select all messages and enter "authorization" in the search bar but I don't see the time or logs for the incorrect attempts. COuld you provide you logs as an exampe?

  • OS X Mountain Lion and log-in icon:

Once I installed the OS X Mountain Lion, the log-in icon that appears when you turn the MacBookPro on or wake it from sleeping changed from a keyboard to a softball.  I have exhausted all of the setting possibilities and still cannot change it...Any tips?

So you've gone to System Preferences --> Users and Groups, unlocked the padlock in the lower left, and changed the picture on your primary account back to a keyboard?

  • Mountain Lion login slowdown & hidd timeout

I've searched in every part of Internet, and also in this forum, to solve my problem, but until now I haven't found a solution.
Since some weeks I've observed a peculiar slowdown in the startup of my Mac Mini running Mountain Lion.
My boot is in verbose mode: when the text mode is finished the login screen appears, but for me is impossible to insert the password: I'm forced to wait about five minutes to insert my credentials, then I log in and everithing is fine and my Mac works perfectly.
You can easily understand that is an harmless but annoying bug, that slow down my work.
I've tried to remove every program that is started with the operative system, checked the RAM and the HD, cleaned the system with Onyx, but nothing changes...I've also looked on the console log, and found the message hidd [45]: Timeout waiting for IOKit to be quiet , but I really don't know what to do....any suggestions?

Please test after taking each of the following steps.
    Step 1
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed to boot, and remove anything that's inserted in the card-reader slot, if your model has one, including an empty adapter.
    Step 2
    Reset the System Management Controller.
    Step 3
Boot in safe mode. This will cause certain caches maintained by the system to be rebuilt.
Safe mode is much slower to boot than normal.
When the login screen appears, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and test. There's no need to log in while in safe mode.
Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. In that case, ask for instructions.

  • Mountain Lion login screen background, how to change it?

I've upgraded today, and while all other customizations still work just fine with Lion Designer 3 (updated), the login background is the only one that just won't work, not even manually. I'm stuck (again, as it was after the last Lion update) with the Apple Linen image, duh. Anyone who's already figured out how to change it? I know Lion Designer will probably be updated about this, just wondering if I can avoid waiting! Thanks a lot!

Thats what the loginox app did to me. I did not do the manual way. If needed, I dont if I can, but it might be possible for me to insert a video showing that.
The loginox app failed to change my background.

That's what the manual way did for me too. As said in my last comment, you need to use the Loginox app instead. You can download it here: http://www.loginox.branox.com

  • Mac OS X Mountain Lion Login fills automatically with "+" signs !?

    Hello everyone,
since a few days i noticed that after im selecting my user account or the "other" account, + signs fill automatically the password box ! In my account i see the typical circles instead of the + . It seems that its adding thousands of characters until im trying to enter my password, then it stops.
Did someone notice a similar behaviour on your Macs.
PS:its not the keyboard stuck or anything, i only get this on first login, after signing off and selecting my account to sign in a second time everything behaves normal...very strange !

Assuming it is not a keyboard issue...
Try to safe boot by holding down the "shift" key after you turn the computer and keep it held until you see an apple logo, spinning gear and progress bar.  Using safe boot will take longer than a regular boot.
Then navigate to /Library/Prefrences/ and remove the com.apple.loginwindow.plist and lockfile.  For good measure you can remove the com.apple.loginwindow.plist from the ~/Library/Preferences/ folder as well.  Then restart the computer.  If neither of those work, go back into safe boot and enable automatic logon in the Users & Groups.

  • Why do I suddenly have to type my password twice at mountain lion login screen?

    I am running 10.8.2 on my 2012 11" air 64GB / 4GB.
Suddenly I have to type my password in twice when logging in. It seems to accept it, then pauses, and I have to type in again, after which it logs in fine.
Interestingly this only happens with my main username. I have another user profile which has fewer apps and I wonder if there is some incompatibility.
It happens both when waking from sleep & from full restart.
I've reparied disk permissions using disk utility and onyx.
I'm not using firevault (it is off and I believe always has been).
I have no peripherals plugged in.
The password thing It's a minor inconvenience only but the system has been a bit unstable recently with a occasional sudden shutdowns. Also all my chrome "favicons" disappeared after the last crash. (the double password thing was happening before this). So I wonder if there is an underlying problem
    Any ideas?

  • Mountain Lion problems with Mail Signatures, Pages, Numbers, Keynote - This quick fix solved all my problems with these. Pages etc wouldn't launch and needed to be force quitted. Mail signature changes wouldn't save.

The solution was simple in my case. I don't know why it worked and it may have been entirely coincidental but its worth a try.
Close all applications and restart Mountain Lion.
Log in as Guest. I opened Pages at this point but I don't know if that's required.
Log out and then back in as your normal user.
Pages, Numbers and Keynote now were fine for me and Mail signature changes were saved and available for later use.
For those trying to edit the signatures to get their old ones back - I just found an old sent mail and copied the signature there into the newly created one via the normal preferences. No need for opening .mailsignature files and editing them. This included various colours, sizes, an image and a link with no problems.
I hope this helps anyone having some of these problems.

  • Cannot Fresh Install Mountain Lion on SSD

Hi I am new to macs and the first thing I want to do on my mac is install the Mac OSX onto my old SSD from my Windows machine. I have been having great difficulty so far! I created the mac osx dvd following the instructions here. I then took out my old HDD and put in the old SSD, I loaded up from the macosx dvd i created. I then erased the ssd drive as mac extended journal. I then installed the OS. It seemed to work, I loaded up mac osx mountain lion and logged in.
The only thing was that whatever you did on the screen made the spinning thinking wheel appear for far too long. Even opening the finder windows took a while.
I thought the fresh install must have gone funny so I just went through the process gain and tried to install mac osx again. Now I cannot even get the installer to finish! It just stops and says its failed. I have tried wiping the drive again and starting again but now every time the installer fails. Like the first time I tried to install it somehow left some damage or mess behind. Well I hope its not the SSD that is faulty I tested it by plugging it in to another computer with a hard drive docking thing. It seemed to read and write fine!?
I am very confused, could it be a dodgy dvd? I burned it and it seems to work fine, burned it straight from the download so could the download be corrupted?
Its a pain as they are dual layered DVDS and cost a fair amount! Its so frustrating as its my new mac and I just want to get it up and running and do some editing I thought it would all run smoothly, what with it being Mac and all.. :-(
Any help would be very much appreciated! Thanks!

Hmm... it seems as if you went through the correct procedures... here's what I'd do, though...
Buy an inexpensive enclosure for your 'old' hard drive (OWC is a good source) and keep the SSD installed in your MBP. Boot from the 'old' drive.
Use Disk Utility to reformat the SSD - format it as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" with a single GUID partition.
Use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone your old drive to the SSD. You'll have the option of creating the Recovery partition - do so.
Beofre rebooting, choose the SSD as your Startup Disk under System Preferences. Then reboot. You should boot into your (speedy) SSD now.
Let me know if this doesn't work.
    Clinton
BTW: I prefer creating a USB flash drive (8GB+) as a bootable installaton drive rather than a DVD. I've made quite a few of them using Lion DiskMaker (similar process that you describe - just automated).

  • Mountain Lion/Aperture3/CF card v SD card

macbook pro with Mountain Lion will not load RAW Canon files on Compact Flash Card from card reader on USB into Aperture 3.  (SD card loads fine with card reader and with the computer's slot)  If I plug the camera into the USB it works fine.  With my wife's MacBookPro (Lion) card reader works.  Any ideas?

Thanks for that I use a Panasonic HDC SD 700 with a 16 gig SD card and read the MTS files via the card reader in the imac using log and transfer. Under mountain lion the log and transfer no longer works but you can import the video as a .mov but it needs rendering which takes ages. I have used Clipwrap with AIC codec transfer and that works well as the imported file is rendered.
FCE itself seems to work well and I am reluctant to invest in FCP X and go through the long learning curve.

  • I'm trying to use Mountain Lion Server so my family can have separate logins via Screen Share to their iTunes.

Using Mountain Lion Server so my family can have separate logins and connect via Screen Share.
Works great, each has their own home directory and permissions are perfect.
Now setting up iTunes for each with their own Library (not shared), thus keeping multiple Libraries.
    I get this;
This Computer is already associated with an Apple ID.
If you download past purchases with your Apple ID, you
cannot auto-download past purchases with a different
    Apple ID for 90 days.
    What!
So what it is on the same computer, they are completely separate Libraries never to be mixed.
If this works, I only need to keep one computer up and running, instead of three.
Each can do their syncing/backup and connect to the various Airplay/AppleTVs I have around the house.
    How do I fix this.
    Thanks

Bottom line is you can't - easily.
You need to make sure that you log out of the server each time otherwise the ID is running. To explain, if you had a laptop with different people using it, your solution works fine. Each time someone logs in, the iTunes ID is different so it works as you can only have one person using the laptop at any one time.
Now, turning your problem inside-out, you want people to be able to log into iTunes concurrently to use their own version of the program with their own library. This does not seem to work and you get the conflicted ID error message. Even though iTunes is running under their own login ident, I have never been able to get this working reliably and was told that iTunes is NOT a network-aware application as it is designed to be single user.
The way I got around this was to login as XYZ and to make sure that the ID was changed in iTunes accordingly. However, it did not always work so I gave up with the whole thing.

  • Cannot log into AD on Mountain Lion. Please help! I got the logs

My company has been experiencing this problem ever since Mountain Lion released.
The problem is, we cannot log into AD on all of our MAC who currently runs Mountain Lion. We, however, can log into AD fine with Lion and Snow Leopard just fine. We only use AD, we don't use Open Directory or have any Apple server.
I have gather some logs using the SSH. Please help me view the logs and let me know what's going on if possible.
Here are the steps that I performed before capture these logs.
I format the hard drive and installed a new OS X 10.8.2 on the hard drive using the Recovery Mode (Hold down option Key while boot).
I created a new computer name call ittest-mac3 in AD and assigned to proper OU. I changed the computer name under System Preferences ==> Sharing to "ittest-mac3".
       3.  I bind this Macbook Pro to our Active Directory via xyz.com. The bind was successful. I enabled "Create mobile account at login", "Required confirmation before creating a mobile account", " Force local home directory on start up disk", " Use UNC path from active directory to derive network home location", "Default user shell: /bin/bash/. Network protocol to be used: smb:
After I reboot the Mac client, I was unable to log into it using our regular AD user account (consider all of our employees has regular account).
I created 2 test accounts for Mac on Active Directory, they are "mac test" and "mac test 2".
With "mac test" account, I configured everything the same as our regular account in AD. Which I was not able to log into the Mac client using this account.
With “mac test 2” account, I configured everything the same as our regular account in AD EXCEPT for UNIX Attributes. I was successfully logged into the Mac client using this user account.
So the problem is ... set the Unix Attributes for NIS domain on the AD account prevent everyone of us in our company to log into AD on any client that have Mountain Lion OSX installed.
    Here are the logs:
Log1. This logs showed successful when log into AD on a Mountain Lion OSX using an AD account that don't have UNIX attributes setting configure.

    -Reece,
We only have 1 single domain, 1 domain forest, no subdomains, only alias. I had replied to the other post as well. But I am happy to paste it here in case anyone want to read it.
So, after a few months of testing, capture and sending logs back and forth to Apple Engineers, we found out there is a setting in AD, under User Account that prevent us to log into AD from Mountain Lion. If you would go to your AD server, open up a user account properties, then go to Account tab, the "Do not require Kerberos preauthentication" option is checked. As soon as I uncheck that option, immediately I was able to log into AD on the Mac client. Apple engineers copied all my AD settings and setup a test environment on their end and match exact mine AD environment. They was able to reproduce this issue.
The bad part about this is... our environment required the "Do not require Kerberos preauthentication" is checked in AD, in order for our users to login into some of our Unix and Linux services. Which mean that it is impossible for us to remove that check mark because most, if not all of them some way or another require to login into applications that run on Unix and Linux. Apple is working to see if they can come up with a fix. Apparently, no one has report this issue except us. I believe most of you out there don't have that check mark checked in your environment... Anyone out there have any suggestion to by pass or have a work around for this?

  • I recently upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion. After the upgrade I was unable to log in to my accounts. After days of frustrating procedures (reinstalling, disk utility clean-up, verification, password resets on terminal window...)

I think I isolated the problem to a software issue. I called the software company and they directed me to a website with the following set of instructions:

      /sbin/mount -uw /   {hit the return key}
    3. Modify the /etc/authorization. At the prompt type
       vi /etc/authorization    {return}
This opens the file in the vi editor.  Then type:
       /AMHomeDirMechanism   {return}
This searches for the first occurrence of AMHomeDirMechanism (case-sensitivity is important).
    do this:
dd     (don't press return, this deletes the line the cursor is on)
n     (don't press return, this searches for the next occurrence of AMHomeDirMechanism)
until there are no more occurrences of AMHomeDirMechanism (vi will say "E486: Pattern not found: AMHomeDirMechanism"). Depending on the version, there will be 3 or 4 occurrences.
    Then:
:wq    {return} (This saves the file).
(NOTE:  You may see "E138 Can't write ciminfo file $HOME/.viminfo!".  If so, please hit the return key, then continue.)
       exit    {return}
This last line allows the boot to continue, and you should then be able to log in andINSTALL ADmitMac v6.
I did this and it did not work. Redoing this several times over, I noticed that the issue is that Drive is "Read-only".  Changing permissions is above my "pay-grade" Any help will be appreciated it. I do not want to wipe out my hard drive and restart anew.

Addendum: I read on a post here (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=420169) about removing some kext files in order to trick OSX into thinking that there were no FireWire ports.
I followed the instructions and removed from /System/Library/Extensions/ the following files:
    IOFireWireSerialBusProtocolTransport.kext
    IOFireWireAVC.kext
    IOFireWireFamily.kext
    IOFireWireIP.kext
    IOFireWireSBP2.kext
I restarted and BAM...Snow Leopard booted crazy fast and the mouse and keyboard worked instantly.
The System Profiler says "No FireWire ports were found."
So this tells me that the FW port is probably the culprit and is messing up the installation.
So how do I hack the Mountain Lion installer and tell it to ignore the FW port, which is obviously quite dead? Or is there something I can do to the Base system that is similar?

  • Login issue on mountain lion

When booting from a powered off state on my late 2010 MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion, one of my login accounts (the one that I actually want/need to use) comes up with a question mark and a message that states "update needed" as shown in the attached picture.  I can click on this account, enter in the password for the account I want (which is my first and last name) and then the machine seems to login for a bit, and then the account I want access to and my account picture show up as one of the choices and i can log in to my profile normally.  Anyone know how to actually do whatever required update the picture i attached is asking for (third account shown in the picture below)?  Thanks.  I just recently did a clean install of Mountain Lion since I am weird like that, lol

Thanks for the advice, however I followed it and the solution remains unresolved.
I made a copy of the .plist file and pasted it in my documents, went to the directory and put the file in the trash as described.
Upon force reboot I was redirected to the login screen again.
When I rebooted normally, it performed auto login as expected.
After rebooting normally the second time (I did not try this with the force reboot), I returned to the directory you suggested to replace the file with the backup I had copied before.  When I returned to the directory, the .plist file had magically manifested without my placing it back.  It seems as if the .plist file is autogenerated from some other setting...
    Any additional suggestions?
    Thanks!

  • Can't login after Mountain Lion upgrade (Network accounts are unavailable)

I performed a Mountain Lion upgrade on a 2011 MBP running Lion this weekend. The Mac may have been set up to connect to an AD server with my user account, but I thought I had disabled that months ago... aparently not. I performed the upgrade at home not on the corporate network.
On first bootup after the Mountain Lion upgrade I'm stuck at the login screen unable to login with my local account or the admin account. I get the "red dot" next to the username field with the "Network accounts are unavailable" pop up. I'm plugged in to the ethernet network at work now... no luck.
I tried booting into the repair disk and repairing disk permissions. Still no luck.
Any ideas? I'd happily do a fresh install but I need to get a handful of files off the machine first.

No worries with the basic questions... it's important to cover all the bases. Thanks so much for the input.
    - I'm trying to log in with the same username I would use to ssh in... so yes.
    - I don't know if the account was a mobile account. The Mac was given to me configured about a year ago, configured to be on the domain. I since have used it on and off many networks without considering it was set up to be on a domain.
    - Never had a problem logging into the machine before the mountain lion install, although to be honest it was very very rarely ever rebooted.
    - I've plugged it into ethernet and let it sit for quite some time. It's still telling me Network accounts are unavailable and I'm unable to login with my personal or admin account.

  • HT1338 After I installed OS X Mountain Lion system, I can't use my Safari to log into my online banking and some other websites which require passwords. Can some one please help?

After I installed OS X Mountain Lion system, I can't use my Safari to log into my online banking and some other websites which require passwords. Can some one please help?

It could be browser incompatibility or something else. When you say you can't log in, what happens? Is the bank website generating an error saying you're not using a supported browser? Does the login form for your bank account display as usual, but once you submit the form to log in it doesn't work? Give me a specific step-by-step of what you're doing, such as...
    1. I load bankofamerica.com
    2. I type in my login
    3. When I submit, the page does nothing
Obviously that may not be your issue, but giving us details like that will help us come to a quicker conclusion.
