Mountain Lion: MacBook Pro NOT showing as a shared device on iMac.

I am running Mountain Lion on my iMac and MacBook Pro, for whatever reason the MBP does not show up as a "shared" device on the iMac, but the iMac shows as shared device on the MBP, I have ALL of the proper "file sharing" settings mirrored on both, also when I try to connect via Go>>Connect to Server on the iMac, the MBP is not even visible nor will it connect to afp://i.p address. Any insight as to what could be causing this, or how to resolve it? Please help!!

No third party applications installed; no gestures changed. It just starts acting up like I described a few times a day. I'll be browsing the internet and go to switch desktops and it suddenly doesn't work.

  • Why is my new Macbook pro not reading my iphone 3GS device but my Windows desktop does not seem to have this problem?

Whenever I plug my iphone 3GS into my windows PC I have no problem syncing and backing up my apps etc but whenever I plug it into my new macbook pro, it simply cannot read my device at all and everything is fully updated. Help please. Thank you

I cannot recall the DVD player ever being a place to "store" videos - it is simply an app to play videos.
If your machine is new, then iMovie should be included as the "shrunk" version of iLife is included with Lion (iMovie, Garageband, and iPhoto). However, iMovie is not a place to store videos either - it is a video editor. You import your clips and edit them in order to then burn to a DVD or share via a social media site.
Have you considered simply dragging the clips to your folder "Movies"? That would be a great place to just store them (please be aware that videos are usually large files, so keep your hard drive space in mind so you keep a minimum free and available for the OS to operate properly):

  • DVD Burner not responding after installing Mountain Lion - Macbook Pro

The superdrive can play a disc but when trying to burn a DVD with programs like DVD2Onex, Toast and DVD Studio Pro I get an error message stating, in so many words, that the drive is either busy or not responding.
It was perfectly fine until I installed Mountain Lion.
What in the world. I got some DVDs to burn. I need to burn VIDEO_TS files, not iso, imgs or anything like that. I need to know why I can no longer burn anything since installing this terrible OS.

  • Can't format HD - Mountain Lion, MacBook Pro

    Hi everyone.
My MacBook Pro stopped working a few weeks ago. It wouldn't pass the initial grey screen with the Apple Logo.
I realized that something happened with the OS and decided to connect to my Mac Pro by Firewire cable and backup everything. This went smoothly and the MacBook HD did mounted in the Mac Pro.
After backing up I ran quite a few times the OS X Recovery, from "Disk Utility" to trying to "Reinstall OS X" by internet and by a bootable Mountain Lion USB.
In "Disk Uitlity", I clicked "Repair Permissions", "Repair Disk", I did everything to fix the HD without success.
In "Reinstall OS X", I tried the bootable USB and downloading Mountain Lion again over the internet. Everytime it gave me an error.
I decided then to plainly format the HD and proceed with a clean install of the OS.
The problem, is that whenever I go to "Disk Utility", it doesn't let me format the HD.
First, only the HD name appears in full "160.04 GB ST9160....". The name "Macintosh HD" underneath appears as not mounted but it appears. When I click to mount it, it gives an error and tells me to run "First Aid" first. I do this and it doesn't fix the problem.
Clicking to erase, it gives this error "File system formatter failed"
I tried to erase it while connected as secondary HD connected by Firewire from the MacPro and it doesn't format either.
When running "Disk Utility", the S.M.A.R.T. status appears as verified, so I presume the HD is still in good health and I don't need to replace it.
After all this steps, now running the installer from the USB, the MacBook HD doesn't even show in the installer screen, appearing only the white hd icon, with "Mac OS X Install ESD".
Taking to an Apple Store is not an option because where I live is useless seeking they're help so I either get a way to format the HD without going through the OS X Recovery or have to remove the HD and try to format mounted as an external drive, but I wanted to avoid having to open the computer (the macbook is a unibody and have to unscrew the bottom to access the battery and HD.
    Thanks everyone

    AngelThMan,
As you should have realised by now, you're not going to get very far on these forums by posting questions but not giving any information for people to work on.
However, FWIW I have a similar 2.2 Ghz Macbook Pro with 2Gb Ram and I can edit DVCPro HD 1080i fine - using an external Lacie drive via FW800. Rendering isn't as fast as on my Quad Core and it can be a little sluggish if I'm working with lots of large images or graphics but it's certainly useable.
To say it lags is obviously subjective - what are you comparing it to ?

  • Best dvd authoring/burning for mountain lion/MacBook Pro

We've just recently obtained a used MacBook Pro that did not have iMovie and iDvd originally loaded on it.  We have purchased iMovie for it, but now need a app for authoring and burning DVDs, since, evidently, obtaining iDVD for it is not possible.  OS is Mountain Lion.  Was hoping for some recommendations, reasonable price, number and variety of templets for main menus, quality of created DVDs, that kind of thing.  Any suggestions appreciated.

Roxio Toast Titanium is pretty decent for that sort of thing.

  • Lion App Store on Mountain Lion MacBook Pro 2012

    Hello,
I have a question for you helpful people. I just purchased a MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion preinstalled. It is the Mid 2012 model with a Core i5 and 4 GB of RAM soon to be upgraded. This line of MBP originally shipped with Lion, but once they started shipping Mountain Lion, the same line of MacBooks began shipping with ML instead of Lion. I want to install Lion, even though I have ML on here now. I know that I can install Lion since this line of MBP originally shipped with it, but here is the question, can I use the App Store download. I tried Internet Recovery and that gave me ML, so I fired up the App Store and went to "Purchases" and re-downloaded Lion. My issue is that this line of MacBook Pro shipped with 10.7.4 originally so is the App Store version updated, and if not will I have any trouble installing the App Store version.
    Thanks for your help,
    Michael

I just wanted to update this so that anyone browsing the thread knew of the solution incase they wanted to try. You must have the most recent copy of Lion from the App Store. If Lion is already purchased, then simply click purchases and it will download the most recent version (10.7.5 at time of writing), thanks to mende1 for alerting me of this. Then you will need to create a USB from the InstallESD.dmg, there are instructions available everywhere. Reboot from the USB and wipe the drive by selecting the drive (not partition) and clicking "Erase Tab" then enter a name and choose "Mac OS Extended Journaled" then proceed to erase the drive. That will delete the Mountain Lion recovery partition as well as all data on the disk. Then proceed to install, which provided you have the latest version, will go on without a hitch. Lion is running beautifully, and much faster than Lion on my MBP. Mine shipped with ML yet Lion installed perfectly.
Just a word of advice, make sure you update ML all the way before you clean install Lion because the newest EFI update always helps.
And a big shout out to mende1 for helping me do this, thanks.

  • Mountain Lion, photos are not showing up in photo stream

I recently installed Mountain Lion, now photos are not showing up in photo stream on the computer.  What should I do?

Disable Photo Stream in the System/iCloud preference pane
and in iPhoto's Photo Share preference pane.
Reboot and reenable both respectively. That should jump start Photo Stream.

  • Updated to Mountain Lion, Macbook Pro Won't save any app preferences

My wife has a 2009 Macbook Pro. We recently upgraded it to Moutain Lion, and now we are having quite a few issues. Additionally, we upgraded to MS Office 2011 from 2008.  Anytime we open most applications, no preferences have saved, and it goes through the process of opening the application for the first time. For example, the only way to open a word document (previously created in 2008) is to open Word 2011, go through the registration process where it tells us the product is already registered, then it opens a blank document. Once the blank document is open, you can click on the saved document again, then it will open. If you close the application, you have to go through this process all over again. This same thing happens for all products in the MS suite.
Additionally, firefox will not work at all. whenever I click on it, the icon just pops up and down and nothing happens. Their troubleshooting is telling us to create a user profile (which I have) under he application support folder, but the folder is gone after the update. Additionally, deleting and re-installing the application has not solved the problem. Additionally, Safari won't save any preferences.
Also, she is the only user account on the computer.
    Any help would be great!

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

  • 2012 Mountain Lion Macbook Pro screen brightness control disappear

Hi everyone, MY macbook pro bought in 2013 but it is a mid 2012 cMBP 15 inch, it don't have any problem but until recently, the screen brightness control just disappear, I don't have any os x update, still using 10.8.3 version, and I searched the web and most people will just reset the NVRAM by hold the cmdoptionP+R when in the start up screen and I do that too but the screen brightness control just won't come out and the F1 and F2 won't function neither, but the keyboard light key do function & if I press the Fn + F1 or F2 it will has a alert sound which show that the F1 & F2 don't have problem but the special function printe on them(screen brightness control) won't work!
    WHy?
    I need yr help!!!!

    JohnnyChin95,
reïnstalling OS X will probably be the only real solution. Will your house have Internet before your warranty expires? If not, then it would probably be better to send it to Apple, even though there would be a long wait to get it back; you’ve paid for the warranty in your purchase price, so why not make use of it? (You might also want to consider purchasing an AppleCare plan; you can do so any time before your original warranty expires.) Alternatively, do you know anyone with Internet access who would be willing to let you download OS X onto your MacBook Pro at their home?
To my knowledge, all of the original MacBook Pros are manufactured in China; I don’t know where in China, though. If you received a box that has a sticker with your MacBook Pro’s serial number, Ethernet MAC address, Wi-Fi MAC address, &c., and all of that information matches what’s in your MacBook Pro, then that’s probably a good sign that you have an original Apple product.
In my case, I have a relatively slow 3½ Mb/s downstream DSL connection, so it took about five hours for me to download Mavericks. If your Internet speed will be faster, then your download time should be proportionally shorter.

  • Can you install the HP color Laser Jet CP1215 on a Mountain Lion Macbook Pro?

I can not get the HP Laserjet CP1215 to work with my Macbook Pro running ML. Please help.

It's hard to answer without know which variant of the iMac you have or what Mac OS version you have. However, when I checked the HP web site, they do not show Mac driver support for this printer model.
Sounds like they plan no Mac support for this model in the future, per this quote from their support page for that printer:
We have received inquiries about Macintosh support for the HP LaserJet 1018, LaserJet 1018s, LaserJet 1020, LaserJet 1020 Plus, LaserJet CP1215, and LaserJet CP1217 printers. We are sorry to inform you that there is no Macintosh support available for your HP product.

  • Streaming and Downloading problems in Mountain Lion Macbook pro

My new Macbook Pro (Mountain Lion OS) has serious streaming problems. The downloads are also slow. Its nothing to do with internet connection as the same video plays well in my other macbook with snow leopard OS. Could someone help me???

Same here. Internet speed is 15 Mbps constantly, but it takes 10 minutes to even watch an Apple movie trailer. My iPad, on the same network -- no problems.

  • Mountain Lion Macbook Pro Network drops on sleep

Since I installed Mountain Lion a few days ago every time my Macbook Pro goes to sleep my VPN connection drops.  With Lion before my VPN would stay active for many days.  I checked Energy Saver under System Preferences and unselected "Wake for network acces" but this still occurs.  Any ideas?
I have also ready about Power Nap which requires a firmware update but can't seem to find anything on Apple's site about this.
    Thanks!

I am having the same issue too - started with Mountain Lion. Tried all the fixes offered for Lion but none appear to work for me.

  • How can i connect my IMessage into the Mountain Lion (MacBook Pro)

I'm trying to enable receving my Imeesages in my MacBook Pro but I don't know how, Wish someone can help me.

Open Messages from the applications folder, the Lauchpad, or your dock if it's setup there.  Go to Messages, Prefereces ..... and select accounts.  Your Apple ID should be already setup.  If it's not you can add it.  If you use more than one ID and it's the wrong one, you can delete the account from messages by going to Account Details and Sign Out.  Then, add the Apple ID you want to use.
It appears that the syncing with iPhones is only working if you use your Apple ID email as the "Caller ID" on the iPhone and that the sync up with your phone number may not be happening until iOS 6 comes out this fall.  I'm not sure though.  I just know that mine isn't syncing with messages sent to my phone number and from other posts, it appears that other people are having the same issue.
I hope that helps get you going.
