Mountain lion "messages" freezing computer

downloaded mountain lion the other day. and just recently started using messages. and when i recieve a message and go to click on the messages icon on my dock sometimes it will freeze my computer. it happens 1-2 times a day. it never did this before i started using messages. anyone have any ideas?

If you get a message there's not enough disk space, then you need to free up some space on your hard drive by moving some data off of it. Get an external drive and start moving or deleting data until you get to at least 8 GB free space.
If you're unsure what is taking up the space use Apple menu > about this mac > storage tab.
What does it report your free disk space as now?

I'm unable install mountain lion on my computer. Every time it says "OSX Mountain Lion couldn't be installed, because the disk \ is damaged and can't be repaired. Click restart to restart your computer and try installing again." So I press the only button listed as an option, it restarts, and the same screen comes up again. I can't make mountain lion go away...I've tried many times. What is wrong with my computer? It's stuck like this and I can't even get snow leopard back on there if I wanted to because I can't get away from the same screen. Please help : (

Insert your OS installer disk in the optical drive. Power the Mac down by holding down the power button. Then power back up and hold down the 'c' key so the MBP boots to the installer disk. From Disk Utility you should do a Repair Disk. If DU successfully repairs the disk quit the installer and reboot your Mac. You should update to 10.6.8 prior to upgrading to ML.

Thank U very much for the quick reply, I wanted to upgrade this weekend, but still on the fence. I can live with the software that is not compatible, they are on another compuetr, just didn't want the obvious stuff to stop working.

Mountain Lion finder freezes

Hey Apple, you must be aware of this issue so just fix the problem asap coz we are not used to Microsoft kinda freezing & crash issues. This is why we choose Apple. Mountain Lion just freezed unexpectedly and embarrasses too. I was showing Mountain Lion to a Windows friend who is proud on Windows, and it just got freeze. I had nothing to say. So please resolve it asap.

My Finder is crashing. While working in the Finder (on Mountain Lion, MacBook Pro 13" mid 2012), searching for files using Spotlight, sometimes the Finder crashes. If I have another app open, I am able to access Force-Quit through the Apple menu, but restarting the Finder only makes it crash again, unless I turn off WiFi.

Mountain Lion Messages won't connect / go online

For the last few days Mountain Lion Messages won't connect / go online. Prior to that it would disconnec at random and it would be difficult to make it connect again. But now it's totally refusing to go online.

I solved the problem, with the help of a friend!
Turns out, even though Messages in Mountain Lion won't prompt you about this in any way, there is a difference between your @mac.com email and your @me.com email.
Messages on Mountain Lion has an iChat built in, but is actually at the same time a new protocol which does not use AIM like iChat. So, it's both AIM iChat and something new.
As soon as I added a new account inside Messages on Mountain Lion with @me.com I could reconnect and all is fine.
Apple, this is a lot less obvious to the end user than you might think. You have switched online services a few time and it always gets better and better. But Messages in Mountain Lion should prompt the user to add the @me.com address if this is required to use the software!

Mountain lion crashes my computer during install.

Help! I've got a solid backup, but during install, Mountain Lion threw my computer into a dead stop during the BSD init process.
Anyone else having this problem? I'm downloading the ML installer to try and boot from USB, but at this point I'm at a bit of an impass. If this doesn't work, I don't either tomorrow morning.
Besides calling me an idiot, any suggestions on getting back to running order?

Try these in order:
1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
    b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
     Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
     COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and
     after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears.
     Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

Something like this happened to a good friend of mine who owned cs3 and downloaded lion onto her computer and she was unable to run the program without upgrading cs3 to cs5. Yes. The other computer will have to be running Snow Leopard or Lion and sign into the App Store with the same Apple ID used to purchase Mountain Lion.
