Mountain Lion Messes up my Display

Ok, so ever since I installed Mountain Lion, things like this are happening.  Today, it was just when I did a screen shot via selecting an area.  The other day it was when I plugged in an external display via my Thunderbolt Port.  I've also noticed that when scrolling in mail or other programs, the area being scrolled jumps around but won't actually scroll correctly.  This seems to happen when I bring my computer back from being asleep and then plugging in my external monitor.  Apple, please fix this.  At this point, I've had several problems with Mountain Lion and I'm telling my family and friends not to upgrade.  I guess you get what you pay for on this one.
Since I marked this as a question.  Is there something I'm doing wrong with my display prefs?

No firmware changes on my part.  I was having other issues with scrolling in Mail.app that cropped up today.
I tried a suggestion that I found here: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1430454
I went to System Preferences -> Displays and switched the laptop to a different resolution (which brought with it an adventure in seeing through screen gobbledy-gook) and then back to the full resolution capability of the LCD panel.
The mail scrolling issues went away and maybe this step lets someone track down what is going on.
As far as I know...
workaround for gobbledy-gook on laptop display: close and re-open lid
scrolling issue with Mail.app recovers after switching display resolution
Maybe they're related, maybe not.

  • OS X Mountain Lion - Apple mail not displaying images

Ever since upgrading to OS X Mountain Lion a few weeks ago, Apple Mail no longer displays images in emails.  I have downloaded and installed the latest Java RTE [it was out of date] - that didn't fix it.  I have tried to reset my Java preferences to their defaults - that didn't fix it.
Is anyone else experiencing this issue?  If so, have you found a solution?
    Thanks in advance!

I have exactly the same problem although its not for every email. My email provider is gmail. If I forward an email to someone else, they have no problem viewing the images. Very annoying. Checked with my gmail account and these are not classed as spam.

  • Mountain Lion doesn't detect displays on startup

I use my MacBook Pro extensively in clamshell mode, and when I did this in Lion, the integrated screen would stay off whenever I turned onb the computer because the lid was closed. However, in Mountain Lion, the screen stays on despite the fact that the lid is closed. Is there anyway to force my Mac to detect displays on start up?

Go to Sys Prefs > Displays > (hold Option) and a "Detect Displays" button will appear at the bottom right. The problem for me it's that even though a display is connected and I managed to get the button to show up, it still didn't detected the display until I unplugged and oplugged back again from the thunderbolt port.

  • Mountain Lion: Mail does not display directory when attaching file

After upgrading to Mountain Lion, when composing a Mail message and attempting to attach a file, the directory window opens and nothing is displayed. Trying to attach via the paper clip button, not drag & drop. The gear spins continuously but nothing is ever displayed (at least not for the 10 minutes I waited). Doesn't seem to matter which directory is chosen, no files are displayed. Anyone seen this problem? Thanks.

  • Font rendering issue / Mountain Lion / non Apple LCD display

    Hello
This font rendering issue or problem is probably well know by Apple crew too but nobody has solved it yet. Only poor solution are available such as try to adjust manually font rendering by writin some scripts concerning anti alias levels...they really dont solve the problem.
Could Apple bring us solution to this by developing or updating Mountain Lion?
So what is the problem: font rendering is very poor in Mountain Lion when using non Apple LCD. For example Fujitsu SL27T-1 LED (LCD displa) shows fonts very nice way in Windows but in Mac OS ML does not. Somebody told me that its about software vs. hardware rendering. Dont know about that but could you bring me the solution which is not advising me to buy Apple display (which is five times more expensive than other manufactures displays).

just want to add that overall fonts look blurry and they are not very sharp.

  • Why doesn't mountain lion remember my external display settings?

I'm a teacher.  I have a 13" early 2011 MBP with mountain lion (10.8.1, clean install on new SSD).  I have external monitors in my office and at home.  I want them to be the primary when plugged in (with the menubar/dock, and the MBP LCD on the left as the secondary display).  When I'm in classrooms, I want the projectors I connect to to be the secondary display (with the MBP LCD on the right as the primary with menubar and dock).  Snow leopard remembered all of this for each display.  Mountain lion doesn't.  Projectors almost always come up mirrored even if I've connected to them before and reset it.
To make matters worse, the displays menubar option is gone in Mountain Lion.  Argh........
    Ideas?

Ok, I think I found a solution.  I disabled the new clamshell mode behavior by using
sudo nvram boot-args="iog=0x0" and rebooting, make it work like snow leopard.  Since, it seems to be remembering my 3 displays (classroom projector as secondary on the left, office monitor as primary on the right, and home monitor as primary on the right).  The downside is if you connect everything with the lid closed and get only one display, opening the lid does nothing and there is no easy "Detect Displays".  Maybe I can write an applescript to easily detect displays.

  • No Recovery - Mountain Lion won't install but Lion Recovery worked (until Mountain Lion messed it up).

When I tried to install Mountain Lion it gave me the "this disk does not support some features, like FileVault or Recovery Mode..." message.  However, my Lion install at that point had a working Recovery Partition (I confirmed it after I got this first message - booted with it).  I also have a cloned backup so I clicked continue.  The install failed and gave the "No Recovery" message.  Then I tried to boot in Recovery Mode and a screen came up saying "Installing" and the giant X with what looked like a progress bar with diagonal blue lines moving left to right, but no "time remaining" or other info indicating it was doing anything.  I let this go on for about 10 or 15 minutes then restarted my computer.  In Disk Utility I repaired permissions and disk repair was ok. I'm not using RAID or BootCamp - just one partition (plus the Lion Recovery one.  The Mac is a newest model MacMini with an OWC SSD (I first thought the SSD might be the problem but it worked with Lion, so...)

    Just Follow this procedure...
    1.     Go To BOOT CAMP and create a BLANK PARTITION. Say a minimum of 10 GB. You do not have to install anything on this.
    2. After you create this, go back to ML installer and now you will see 2 HD's. one will be your main HD and the second one will be the one you just created.
    3. Install the ML OS X on the main hard drive. Once installed, reboot the machine go to DISK UTILITY and delete the blank partition you had created.
    4. So, now you have your HD at its full capacity.
    Try this it should work.

  • Mountain Lion messed up password

I installed Mountain Lion a few days ago.  My desktop is 10.8.2 and I had Snow Leopard.
I changed my adminstrative password yesterday and now am locked out of all password needs.  It won't take my new one, my old ones,or  my apple ID.  It does not time out when I put in wrong passwords.
My husband is also an adminstrator on the computer.  Can I use his account to reset mine?
How can I resolve this issue?  I have been able to use the computer but am locked out of anything needing a password, including parental controls and shut down.

Can I use his account to reset mine?
You should be able to. In the Users & Groups preference pane, make sure the box labeled Allow user to administer this computer is checked for your account.

  • Will upgrading to mountain lion mess up my both camp partition?

I was just getting ready to update to mountain lion and I was wondering if it would delete my windows partition?

It shouldn't. But we are taking about computers and anything can happen.

  • Late 2011 MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion - Have two external displays (one MiniDisplay, one VGA-USB), how do I rotate just the one screen?

The primary, horizontal monitor is connected by the VGA-MiniDisplay adapter, and the secondary monitor (vertical) is connected with a VGA-USB adapter. They both connect fine, but I only have the option to rotate both at once. That is, the main 'System Preferences' window that shows up on the primary monitor has the option to rotate, but only there -- when I rotate that screen it rotates both.
Also, I'm not going to be using the actual MacBook screen. Any ideas as to how I can get this to work? Thanks!

The Apple TB displays I've seen come with two TB connectors. You can cascade them in daisy-chain fashion.
However, you are limited to how much information the GPU can produce and store. I've been told by the local apple shop (not an official Apple Store) geeks that if you cascade two of the big displays onto one of the Macs (big models), both will fire up, but the Mac's internal display will be disabled. Apparently 1GB of VRAM isn't enough for so many framebuffers.

  • Osx mountain lion: reminders background not displayed correctly

When I slide left and look at the reminders on the right, the background is black, but a bunch of squares overlapping each other. This is making the reminders very difficult to see, as it is under them too. How do I fix this?

    Try this...
Go to your Finder "Go" menu hold the option key to choose "Library".
Then, go to Containers/com.apple.reminders/Container.plist and delete that file then log out and back in or restart.
    Let us know...

  • ITunes Store looks funny in Mountain Lion

Since installing Mountain Lion, the iTunes store displays wrong - the large area at the top of the screen - which should display cycling artwork for current albums, movies, etc. is blank.   Everything else looks fine.   Attaching a screen cap.

NEVER MIND - another restart fixed it.

  • OS X Mountain Lion - FTP server, no files visible

I try to set up the FTP server in OS X 10.8.2 Mountain Lion with the Server app (2.2). So far, all services are running but I'm not able to make files visible over internet or local access. I can change the directory to any custom or predefined share and give all users full access (read & write) to all files in that share but no file is showing up. I tried to access the FTP server locally with a FTP application and the same with a web FTP proxy. Files that I copied to the selected share will not show up on the FTP server. In fact, not a single file is visible.
Maybe this has something to do with anonymous access. I want a public folder, accessible from outside (internet). I really don't know whether anonymous access is possible with OS X FTP server nor whether I should create special users for FTP access. The server application is not very helpful regarding this.
Which rights and users should configured in FTP server? How to set up generic anonymous access?

I am having a similar problem. I have files automaticly uploading via FTP. This works perfectly on my older desktop but on my MBP with mountain lion, the files only display one or two at a time and only show newer files when the first ones are deleted.
The same behavior occures when using the ftp enable script in the terminal app.
Not exactly the same but similar.
Why did apple take the simple FTP toggle away??? My 13 year old Mac wins this battle and remains on the shelf

  • Mountain lion dual display calibrate

Lost the ability to calibrate two screens after updating to Mountain Lion. When making changes to the secondary screen I only affect the primary. My two screens are of the same brand and are recognized as syncmaster 1 and 2, but only the first responds to color profiles. I've tried apples internal calibration and a spyder 3. No luck...
    Anybody else seen this?

Strange fix....Kind of for now till apple fixes this mess...I have the ATI 5770 in my 2009 mac pro, I thought maybe I needed higher quality cables so I used 2 high quality DVI-M/M digital dual link cables 10ft, fitted too 2 DVI to thunderbolt adapters. I plugged these into the TH_bolt ports in the GPU. Both displays were now oversaturated and did not remeber any calibration. I then tried to calibrate...DID NOT WORK same issue as before. I then reset my samsung sycmasters to the factory settings and stared over. DID NOT WORK...I then unplugged the cables and switched them back and forth nothing changed...HERE's the strange part...I took one cable and attached it direclty to the DVI port, on the GPU and then left the other one on the thunder bolt port on the far right. I did this with the computer on...both displays refreshed with amazing color and saturation both displays look the same. They still will not calibrate but the look is now back to the way it was before my update and at least I can kind of go back to work. Hope this helps...
