Mountain Lion not installing from Recovery HD

Ok so I want to restore my mac so I enter Recovery HD and when it's erasing Macintosh HD, I go to reinstall OS X, so I continue, agree to the terms and conditions, select my disk, and sign in into my iTunes account and then nothing, I try hitting install again and again sign into my itunes account and then nothing happens and this just keps going on. I tried restarting more than once, I also tried booting into my Time Macine and almost the same thing happens, I boot back into Recovery HD and try again but again nothing. Keep in mind that I downloaded Mountain Lion 3 times before plus the one more time that I restored so I guess maybe making that 4 times. I dont think I exceeded my maximum downloads since I didn't get a message telling me that or asking me to buy it another time. Keep in mind that I don't have access to another mac and that I don't live in the USA or any country with apple stores although I can go to an apple authorised reseller however my warranty is over. I was thinking of buying a Lion USB thumb drive and booting into that and installing Lion but will that work since my recovery HD is on Mountain Lion. GUYS URGENT HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!
And I also can't restore from time machine since I don't have a full system backup.
Thanks in advance!!!
MacBook Pro 13inch Early 2011.

Now when I go to Reinstall OS X, I get this message:
"Could not write installation information to disk.
please contact applecare"
Almost exactly that message

does mountain lion support install from a RAID drive?

Apple does not support the 3rd party drives.  To enable it (without installing another software package), you can visit the website:
    http://digitaldj.net/2011/07/21/trim-enabler-for-lion/
I ran the series of commands on my Mac Pro and it did enable TRIM.
the webpage even has a backup/back-out procedure.
Without TRIM, my computer was running extremely slowly.  After enabling TRIM, my computer ran substancially faster.

  • Mountain Lion not installing on MacBook pro 17inch

I have downloaded without any issue and followed the prompt to install. The install start and goes on for 35 minutes with the progress bar moving. So it is doing something. Then it is getting to the end with the following message: install failed. OsX could not be installed on your computer. The installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer. Click start to restart your computer and try installing again.
I have tried 6 times but not working. The I wanting to restore from backup using the utilities from the menu bar "Restore System from backup" it will do the same and. Go on for 35 minutes and get to the same screen "install failed" what should I do now.

Having read several posts on this subject it seems to be very hit and miss for some people, but I think on the whole it is only a few who are affected.
I find it very difficult to believe that a Mac cannot be taken back to Snow Leopard by performing a complete fresh install using the install DVD that came with that machine, or a retail edition disc.  Mac OS does not alter the firmware during the install as far as I am aware, so the hardware should be the same as it was originally before the install.
The only thing I can think that might prevent a successful install might be if the system files have been altered by software installers, the Mac OS installer might be confused, or if the permissions have not been set correctly then the installer might not be able to overwrite or set up certain files.  That is why a clean install should (in theory) always work on compatible hardware, then a restore from a backup or Time Machine would be all that is required to bring back the user's data.  Formatting the hard drive may be a necessary step if it is not working as expected, this can be done from the Utilities when booted from the install media (or Lion recovery thing).
I didn't have a problem installing Lion or Mountain Lion on my Late 2011 17 inch MacBook Pro, but before installing made sure I created a USB flash drive (8GB) from the downloaded installer using the little trick which is around on the internet.  If the installation had bailed for any reason, I definitely did not want to have to download several GB all over again.

  • Why isn't OS X Mountain Lion not downloading from Mac App Store?

    Hi all,
I have recently downloaded the OS upgrade to Mountain Lion from the Mac App Store for £13.99, and it is't downloading. Since purchasing I have received the bill from Apple outlining I have purchased the item. But nothing has happened as yet. I have looked under purchases in the Mac App Store and it just shows the progression bar...
    79.3 MB of 4.37 GB - Calculating...
I have restarted my IMac many times and still nothing!!!
What can I do?? I have the icon for Mountain Lion in the dock but the only options available I can see are... Pause, or Cancel Download.
    Please help!!!
I am running Mac OS X  version 10.6.8
    Thanks in advance

It looks stuck, and at this point, you probably ought to cancel the download and start it over again. (No worries about paying again... once you buy something in the App Store, you own it for as long as it stays in the store and can re-download it all you like.)
Also, before you consider installing the upgrade, note that there are some things you should do:
    1) Check all your software for compatibility with the new system.
    2) Repair the hard drive with Disk Utility.
    3) Make a full backup of your whole system using Time Machine.
    4) Ideally, make a second full backup of your whole system using something else, like Carbon Copy Cloner. (I consider two backups to be the minimum.)
    5) Wait until you have time to deal with any possible problems that crop up.
    6) Install the upgrade.
Some people recommend erasing your hard drive and installing the new system "cleanly." That certainly helps ensure that you don't have any problems with the new system, but is often unnecessary. I prefer to save clean installs for when they are actually necessary, but that is only an opinion. You can certainly choose to do a clean install if you prefer.

  • Mountain Lion not installing - With VirusBarrier X6

I was having lots of problems trying to install Mtn. Lion but was able to install other apps and updates. I just couldn't figure it out! But with lots of support from Apple and searching around I was able to get it to work. I wanted to share to help everyone out!
First off, this only works if you have VirusBarrier X6 (VB)!
    1) Open VB and click the tab "Surf"
    2) Under "Surf" click "Ad Banner Filter"
    3) Turn this OFF
    4) Now turn OFF the computer.
    5) Holding SHIFT, start the computer WHILE STILL HOLDING shift DOWN.
This will put the computer into Safe Mode. Safe Mode will clear certain Cache files that a user would not be able to normally to clear.
    6) Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
    7) Log into your account.
    8) Now restart the computer NORMALLY.
    9) Go into App Store and you should be able to download Mountain Lion.
    I hope this helps!!

You can try this link, it worked for me:

The last one was what did it, moving the preflight.pfpgk to Trash

  • Mountain Lion not installing on 2009 Mac Mini

I have tried a few times to install the new Mountain Lion OS X onto my 2009 Mac Mini. I have gone through the basic checklists of what to do prior to installing but the install keeps on getting stuck after the original download and restart.
Once downloaded and the install process has begun it restarts and then the OS X install screen apears and it shows how many minutes it will take to install.
It remains at 34 minutes, the second time I attempted an install I left the computer on overnight to make sure it wasn't installing very slowly, it was left on for over 12 hours but did not advance in the process.
    Details on the computer:
    2009 Mac Mini
    Software: version 10.7.5
Processor: 2.26 GHz Intel Core Duo
    Memory: 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3
    Hard Drive Space Available: 52.26GB
I have viewed many other problem threads here based on installing Mountain Lion and the hard disk having problems. My computer will just not advance past the very beginning of the install and I am able to reboot the install disk and retry or just go back to OS X Lion so I can use the computer again.
Anyone have a tip or something I can look into to see what may be the problem??

    Found this elsewhere after a couple weeks of searching, inserting an old install DVD worked;

Funnily enough I had the same problem yesterday.. tried 10 times but installer kept hanging at 34mins as well.. I noticed that while it was loading it was accessing the DVD drive.. with nothing in it then hanging.. I put in an installer disk for Snow Leopard, and the ML installer loaded and installed.. don't ask me why, no idea but give it a try..

  • HT1338 Mountain Lion not installing

From the apple app store, purchased Mountain Lion. The mountain lion app icon shows download, but when I click down load nothing happens.

    The issue is resolved.
Went to the app store and took the option to show my purchases. There it showed that that the down load was paused. Why it was paused is beyound me. Just restarted it and the download completed.
Before starting the installation I then made a back up copy of the install.dmg app and copied it to my other Macs so I didn't need to wait for the down load on the other computers.

  • Mountain Lion not installing on macbook, unable to start up now

So I downloaded Mountain Lion intending to use it for my iMac and Macbook Pro. I downloaded it fine on the iMac no problem. But when I went to install ML on my macbook pro, I pressed the button to install it on my hard drive from the ML installer and the button wouldn't take me anywhere, click after click. It just sat there. So I thought re-installing the installer might have been needed but the app store wouldn't recognize that I am logged on so I couldn't re-download it. So I thought restarting my computer would help but it's stuck on the white screen with the apple icon and the little loading circle in perpetual motion. It's been like that for half an hour and I have no idea whats going on. Did ML crash my computer?

  • Mountain Lion not installing

Mountain Lion seemed to download OK but during install, the whole process disappeared after selecting MacHD as the volume. Can't find any trace of MLion on my system. After leaving it all night, tried restarting and re-downloading. The App Store says it is downloading but no sign of it on my desktop.

Thanks for the reply. The app was nowhere to be found but I tried downloading for third time and everything installed without a hitch. Go figure!

How do i reinstall mountain Lion after installing maverick. Maverick  is not compatible with FileMaker 13 server. Maverick is now objecting to reinstalling Mountain Lion. Where do I go from here? Help?

If you can download the ML installer you can make a bootable install media by using:
    http://liondiskmaker.com/
If your Mini came with ML you can also boot to Internet Recovery
OS X: About OS X Recovery
and it will install ML. Make sure you boot to Internet Recovery and not the Recovery Partition. If to the partition you will only get Mavericks.

  • Clean install of Mountain Lion not working and everything's gone!

Created bootable USB install of Mountain Lion to do clean install so I could give my laptop to my sister - erased partition via disk utility - only USB Mac OSX Install ESD shows up for startup disks and that doesn't work when I try to install from there! HELP!
There WAS a recovery disk but I erased that too. I think it's a complete blank computer and the USB drive has nothing to open it with... no clue why it's not working otherwise!

Thing is, that bootable copy isn't really a bootcable copy unless you created that via some non-Apple guides on the web.  The one off Apple's site that tells you how to make a bootable USB stick doesn't actually put the install files on there.  It just puts the necessary files to get it booted and up to the web to do a download of it.
This is the writeup you need to follow.  http://osxdaily.com/2012/02/17/make-bootable-os-x-10-8-mountain-lion-usb-install -drive/
Of course, if your laptop came with ML already on it, you won't be able to download the installer because they'll make you pay for it no matter what.  You'll need to get your hands on that .app file so you can extract the necessary .dmg file from it.  The nice part is, it doesn't matter where that .app file comes from (Purchase ID wise), you just need one folder out of it and that's all.  If you have a friend that upgraded to ML and has the ability to redownload the app from the store, you can get it that way.
Again, as long as your laptop came with ML preinstalled, this is legal to do.  If it did not and it came with Lion, then you need to install Lion on it before you can legally give it away or sell it with the appropriate OS license on it.

I have a MacBook Pro bought in dec 2009. Currently has mountain lion osx installed. Worked like a dream until today. Randomly froze, so I restarted it. To find I got a grey screen. It wouldn't start. Also note my DVD drive doesn't work, but mountain lion was installed via App Store anyway.
So here's what I done so far:
tried resetting PRAM - No success
Done disk utility. Disk verified with no errors. I even re formatted disk. - no success starting.
Tried re installing mountain lion via download . It froze halfway installing -no success.
Tried backing up a time machine backup from my USB hard drive. It froze at 1% - no success
Tried booting from safe mode - no success
Tried the command line boot - no success.
    Please someone help!

Sounds like the hard dre has left the building, Died, in the Sh*tter, Gone to the hard drive resting place in the sky.
Buy a new drive connect it to the system with a SATA to USB adapter and see if you can install Mt Lion on that drive connected externally. If you can then the drive inside your system has failed.
Oh Wait!!!! You have the 2009 model. They are known for bad drive to logic board cables. So it may not be the drive itself but the cable going from the drive to the logic board. Do the same as above then if the system runs OK with the new drive connected externally install it in the system and see if it boots. If it does you are good to go. If it doesn't then it is more then likely the cable that hs failed.
I would suggest you also SAVE a copy of that download of Mt Lion and create a USB install drive from it using Lion Disk Maker, once you get your system up and running.
