  • New MacbookPro w/Mountain Lion. Can't see external HD

I just bought a new MacBookPro and it cam with Mountain Lion.
I have an external HD and was working fine, then I ejected it, pluged it back into my iMac with Lion, and it can't be found. I tried on my new MBPro, and same thing... can't be found.
Opened disc utility and it's there. Right clicked on the "missing" hard drive and selected OPEN (see attached image).
As you can see, the missing hard drive is now available, but it won't let me find it unless I go through disc utility. What's up? and how do I fix this?
    Thank you,
    Tony

Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar top of your screen click Finder > Preferences then select the General tab.
    Select:  CDs, DVDs, and iPods

  • Why does my iMac (with Mountain Lion) no longer recognize my external hard drive I have used as a back up via Time Machine after the hard drive was accidentally unplugged?

Why does my iMac (with Mountain Lion) no longer recognize my external hard drive I have used as a back up via Time Machine after the hard drive was accidentally unplugged?

Do you mean the external hard drive is not mounted on the iMac desktop?
Check if Disk Utility sees the drive. Applications / Utilities / Disk Utility. If the external shows up in the left column, select it and click on Mount.
If it does show up this way, I recommend using DU to Repair Disk.

  • HT1338 After I upgraded to Mountain Lion, I cannot get my external speakers (Bose) to work on my iMac.  Any help?

After I upgraded to Mountain Lion, I cannot get my external speakers to work (Bose).  What can I do to fix?  They worked fine prior to upgrade.

If you haven't already, go to your Applications folder>System Preferences>"Sound">click on the center tab labelled "Output">highlight your external Bose Speakers in the list by clicking on it>turn up the Volume slider at the bottom of the window.  Hopefully that solves your problem.
    Hope this helps

  • Mountain Lion cant see my WD external Drive

I have just got my new MBP 15inch this week. I tried to mount a 1TB WD external Hard disk ... but my MBP (including the Disk Utility) cant see it. The external drive can be mounted perfectly on another MB 13 inch Mac OS Leopard machine.
I tried to plug/unplug ... use different USB port ... and i failed. After two days I tried again and only once my MBP 15 inch detected the drive !!!! It was very weird ! I copied some stiuff from the drive and unplugged it. When I tried to plug it again, the same problem appeard !!!
    Help !

Thanks for the no-one-help. But for other poor buyers : Buy a new SS USB cable. It seems that Mountain Lion cant read the WD with the one-year old cable. Anyhow ... both are frustrating (Apple and WD )
    get a new cable !

  • Mountain Lion Server Profile Manager not accessible externally

What do I need to be checking if I can't access our Mountain Lion server's Profile Manager externally.  From a test iPad on a carrier's 3G network, I get a "server not found" error when using http://fqdn/.  I can bring up the server page if I use https://publicipaddress. but not https://publicipaddress/profilemanager.  Apple tried accessing the server with the same findings.  We're a state agency behind tight firewall and security and we're told that all Profile manager needed ports are open...  Thanks.

    Nelson -
Pretty much everything boiled down to DNS, firewalls and ports.  Unfortunately, I was never able to acertain which of the three items were causing this problem because we have a separate group who manages the network and firewall (plus a separate security team).  If I recall, once they focused on what it was I was trying to accomplish, most of the problems "magically" went away.
Is your reverse DNS working the way it's supposed to?  Ex:
    yourserver:~ login$ hostname
    yourserver.yourdomainname
    yourserver:~ login$ host yourserver.yourdomainname
    yourserver.yourdomainname has address 10.x.x.x
    yourserver:~ login$ host 10.x.x.x
    3.34.2.10.in-addr.arpa domain name pointer yourserver.yourdomainname
    yourserver:~ login$

  • Mountain Lion Hangs on Boot when an external cloned drive is attached

It seems that, for me at least, when I have an external drive, in this case a usb, plugged in on boot up, Mountain Lion just hangs.  This external drive is used as a clone (I use Super Duper). It can hang in one of 2 places; after inputing my password, or when trying to bring up the desktop. It is very consistent as to the hanging.  When the external drive which contains the clone is not attached, it boots fine every time.  I have no problems at all with my other external drives being plugged in at boot. They are just contain data.  Is Mountain Lion getting confused?  Anyone else experience this?

I am stumped too. The issue is that the 'pmset -g' command does not allow changing the ExternalMedia flag.
An observation that may be relevant to this topic is as follows: if you unmount the drive (but not physically disconnect it), sleep comes in the specified time. Upon wakeup, however, the drive is mounted again to the desktop. I've noticed this behavior with SD cards, and I assume that HDs should do the same.
If this is the case, then it may be possible to use ControlPlane (current version is ControlPlane-1.1.4) and create an "about to sleep" situation, which triggers USB disk unmounting. Haven't tried it, but was thinking to (subsequently just gave up and eject my USB  storage manually).
    Hope this helps.

  • After upgrading to mountain lion my usb drive gets disconnected

I have a late 2009 iMac that just installed Mountain Lion.
Every single USB external drive that is connected, shortly after a while gets unmounted.
I tried with disabling sleep mode for HD etc and no success.
Then I tried USB card reader and same exactly think. Memory card gets mounted and after about a minute gets unmounted.
What could be a problem or better yet, sollution ?
    Any help is appreciated.

Power down and disconnect all ext HDs. Zap the PRAM and Reset the SMC, then try mounting them again.

  • Kernel panic after Mountain Lion download?

After I downloaded Mountain Lion on my older MB Pro 17", (which was running Lion 10.7.4 previously), upon the Restart that goes with the install, I got a Kernel Panic screen, telling me to restart again, which I did, returning to the same condition. I tried a Cmd-R restart and performed Disk Repair from Disk Utilities, then re-downloaded ML, but then got the same result.
For what it's worth: Here's the Kernel ID showing on my paralyzed screen:
    Kernel UUID: A8ED611D-FB0F-3729-8392-E7A32C5E7D74
    System model name: MacBookPro5,2 (Mac-F2268EC8)
Is my build too old for the Mountain Lion install?

Disconnect all external devices besides Apple keyboard and mouse, then see what happens.
If you don't get any kernel panics, then try connecting devices one at a time and test for a few days or until you get another KP.
I just read another post which stated there were several threads listing problems with the dual GT 120 cards and Mountain Lion. So, you might search out those if it doesn't turn out to be one of the attached devices.

  • Imac core2 duo mountain lion won't recognize D key for diagnostics

I've tried everything I can thnk of to get my mac to boot diagnostics. Is there any way to get a diagnostic only bootable media? Wired or wireless keyboards make no difference. Nor does booting with the option key, selecting the CD, and pressing the D key before going on.

Tommy197944 - i have tried all 4 USB ports as well as different USB cables.   I took the drive to the Apple Store where they tried it on several different systems. iMAC running OS X 10.8.5; MACbook Pro running OS X Lion and a MACbook Pro running OS X 10.8.5.   Both MACbook Pros mounted the drive but the iMAC failed to mount the drive.  I remember a blog response saying swapping the OS X Mountain Lion's DVDPlayback.Framework file for OS X Lion's DVDPlayback.Framework might solve the issue.
It is perplexing that the exact same Samsung DVD Writer, model SE-208DC/TSWS mounts on MACbook Pro running the latest version of Mountain Lion (10.8.5).  That MACbook Pro also had an internal DVD Writer.  The Samsung DVD Writer was also tested on a MACbook Pro running Lion and it also mounted correctly.  So what did Apple change in OS X Mountain Lion that would prevent the iMAC from mounting the external Samsung DVD Writer.  The Samsung DVD Writer has no drivers for the MAC.  It depends on the OS X files.  I am trying to keep a positive attitude and hoping Apple did not change OS X Mountain Lion to prevent 3rd party external DVD Writers from mounting correctly with the new IMACs that no longer can be configured with an internal DVD Writer.
Most grateful for some proven solutions.

  • Single or double click with thumb doesn't work well on trackpad since upgrade to mountain lion

I'm using a 2009 MacBook Pro recently upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion.
The internal AND external trackpad behavior is disappointing compared to Snow Leopard.  Neither one seem to register my thumb single or double click unless I do it pretty hard. For instance, selecting a word or double click to select a line.
A single finger works better but it's inconvenient to change years of training.
Sometimes I tap w/ my thumb on a button or link and it works and sometimes and I get no response until I use my finger.  It's like the trackpad sensitivity is off. Single tap only half works.
I was really efficient with the old trackpad behavior and my thumb.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

I'm the OP and I'm the one that listed the problem originally. I spent an hour with apple care and the genius level two guy suggested I wipe my whole system. LOL, for a 40MB app, yeah right. The issue with Safari 6 is javascript, according to yahoo javascript is turned off. If you try to change your classic yahoo mail to the newer version it will give you a javascript turned off error. So for whatever reason Safari 6 has javascript turned off even though it is clicked ENABLED in preferences. Crazy. I did find my solution though and that was to dump Safari 6 by giving myself "read and write" permissions and then dumping the safari chache, plist, and preferences files. Then I installed Safari 5.17 by downloading the dmg from the net using PACIFIST. I had complete directions but somebody at apple decided to delete the whole post.

    Brauche dringend fachkundigen Rat:

  • Can I dual boot windows 7 and mountain lion with an external hard drive.

I have Mac OSX mountain lion installed and running on my 2TB external hard drive. Boot camp says that I have to use the default flash storage that came with my computer.. Is there a way to put it on my external hard drive if I partition it? I also am having a problem when I tried to use the default storage the setup would not let me format it to NTFS

By default, Boot Camp formats the drive with FAT32. That's because Windows XP could be installed with FAT32 so, in order to write on that partition on Mac OS X, Boot Camp used it instead of NTFS.
If you want to install Windows 7 (it's the only version that your Mac supports), you will have to format the Boot Camp partition in NTFS manually. To do it, just start the Windows installation as usual but, on partitioning screen, choose "BOOTCAMP" volume, press "Drive options" and then, Format, so the partition will be formatted in NTFS and you will be able to install Windows
