Mountain Lion OS re-download it and reinstall
I recently purchased MAC OS Mountain Lion. After a crash and subsequent reformating of the main HD, I need to re-download it and reinstall. From where can I do this without having to pay twice?
It is by far the worst running OS, slow to the point of unusable, but that's another question that I will adress in a new thread.
Once you have purchased and Installed 10.7 or later, you can re-download it using the built-in Utilities.
In 10.6, these built-in Utilities were on the DVD with the OS Install. In 10.7 and later, a special Recovery_HD Volume should have been installed on your Hard Drive. It is difficult to erase, and should still be on your drive except for certain obscure cases where it might have been removed.
Hold down the Alt/Option key at Startup. Be patient. After a minute or two it will draw an Icon for every bootable Volume on your Mac. If Recovery_HD shows up, choose it and proceed, and there will be options for re-installing over the Internet, provided you have a regular connection such as Ethernet or WiFi.
If you have a new drive to install it on, that does seem to work better, but if you have erased your drive, that should work as well.
From 10.7.4 onward, a bootable copy of the Recovery_HD is placed on your Time Machine backup Volume as well, and will show up during Alt/Option boot if the drive is attached locally and powered on.

Now doing a recovery from current backup but wondering the **** is going on. Wasted over 24 hours of processor time.

Issue is when i tried to save the presentation on MBA Keynote 09 - Keynote crashed.

I rebooted my macbook pro recently and downloaded mountain lion. Afterwards iPhoto dissapeared and I canr seem to restore it. Any suggestions?
Rebooting is the same as restarting. That should not have any effect on what software is installed on your machine unless something is very, very wrong. Do you mean that you erased the hard drive and installed Mountain Lion? If so, you will also need to reinstall iPhoto. What system did your machine originally ship with? If it came with disks, you can reinstall the iLife apps from the Applications disk.

That .itl file actually is the library -- at least the critical part of it although the library is actually many files and folders.
Try starting iTunes and immediately hold down the option key. When it asks, guide it to the .itl file.
It's really hard to say without being able to poke around your computer. Upgrading should not delete the old library, but still it happens to the very, very few which is why we make backups before updating. If the old library file is gone then so are your playlists. I am trying to download the mountain lion software which I purchased and downloaded successfully in my air book, in to my desktop and I get an error 403 message saying that an server error ocurred during downloading
Implies that the DL is hosed and necessitating DLing it again.

how do i delete from the startup disk? I am trying to get Mountain Lion from the App store and it says that the purchase was not complete because i need 4.06 GB space to download OS x 10.8. and to remove items from my startup disk to increase space. How?
ThanksYou can use iCloud with 10.7.5. You do not need to upgrade to Yosemite. You should provide a minimum of 15 GBs of free space or 10% of the hard drive's capacity, whichever is greater.
Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
1. See Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks' Storage Display.
2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
4. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
5. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
6. See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located. -

What do you see in the Mac App Store > Purchases section? The dl could just be paused, in which case you can resume it and carry on.
If it doesn't list it there then search your Mac for the installer incase it finished in the background and didn't start the installer automatically.
Finally, if you don't see it anywhere and you're sure it hasn't finished and actually updated without you realising it, you can email Apple's iTunes support team and they can either put it back in your download queue to try again or regrant you the download so you can 'buy' it again without having to pay.

I just downloaded the newest update for mountain lion. After downloading any restarting for installation, I got a message stating that the update cannot be installed due to an error. Yet when I check I have version 10..8.3 and safari version 6.0.3, which the update was for. Does this mean that the update is iinstalled and the message was incorrect?

Good timing! Oh well, at least you shouldn't have to update again for a while. It will be nice kickstarting your Mac with the very latest System Update knowing any hiccups from 10.8.2 would have been ironed out if they were going to affect your workflow at all.

Mountain lion will not download thru the apps store. It has been purchased and redeemed. I have set my energy settings appropriately so computer will not turn off during download as Verizon offers a connection that is very slow. I have set the display to go to sleep (which I have set so I have to sign in again). When I sign in again, Mountain Lion OSX has disappeared from the launchpad. I have tried this several times. I do have Norton Internet Security on my Mac Air. I turned off the idle time scan on the Norton and tried again. Same results. Anyone?
Ask anyone around here, and they will tell you quite differently. AV software will slow down your computer, can be incompatible with software you use, can cause kernel panics and other problems. It is unnecessay since OS X has it's own protection built-in. AV software can no more tell the difference between safe and unsafe sites on your browser than could an elephant.

I downloaded the mountain lion from the app store and it downloaded. When i installed the mountain lion it said that the hd disk is broken and cannot be repaired, and the other disk doesnt have enough space! This error means that your hard drive is badly corrupt and cannot be repaired by Disk Utility. Since you say you don't have backups, this is very bad news. You may already have lost data irrevocably.
First order of business needs to be backing up whatever you can, but this may be difficult to do if the machine won't start up any more. See step 1 of the following post:

Restart your Mac and try again.
Keep in mind, v10.8 Mountain Lion is a 4.35GB (approxmiately) file size and requires a high speed broadband internet connection.
