Mountain Lion (purchased) cannot be downloaded via App Store. Help!

I bought Mountain Lion via the App Store, and now I cannot re-download this now that Mavericks has launched. It is "not available in the US App Store," apparently.
I would like access to the software I purchased. How are other people fetching their (download-only) software they purchased? While the whole innovation of central stores IS THAT APPLE KEEPS MY PURCHASED SOFTWARE, if this is not the case, I'll need to keep local copies, and need advice on how to fetch my purchased software.

I had a shockingly, unacceptably bad experience today at the local Apple Store over this issue. Upsetting because uniform build quality and good service is what differentiates Apple from Dell, and creates the extra hardware expense.
For others who are having this issue:
Apparently Apple Stores do not have, or have access to, the "non-slipstreamed" (e.g. Universal) version of the OS X Mountain Lion installer that you and I paid for in the App Store.
If pressed, the only solution given is to create a backup disk (or boot-up USB stick) from Control-R on startup.
Said solution, however, will generate a boot image that is contingent and dependent upon the hardware on which it was created. Therefore, if you move from a Mac Mini platform to a laptop, and try to install the Operating System--which you have paid for--from this USB stick, you might not be able to boot the system.
The recourse given is to "call 1800-My-Apple," which may or may not have a charge associated with it.
Oh, and #5: Apple Store employees (not the Genius) may tell you you are violating copyright when in fact you are taking an action protected under EULA and Fair Use provisions (e.g. backup copy, one-copy-for-one-computer).
All in all, this has soured me on my upcoming Apple hardware purchase. LUCKILY for me, I might have found a copy of my Install OS X Mountain Lionpackage. Good thing I did not rely upon digital curation to maintain my digital purchase.
Lessons?
Make a copy of everything you purchase via the App Store. Even if it's a curated store, apparently there is no guarantee that your purchased software is retained.
Maintain multiple backups.
Be very, very careful when moving across hardware platforms with a Command-R-generated boot drive. Apparently this can create chaos. Silly me, I'd have thought the "full" version of the installer would be used when creating a boot disk via starting up in rescue mode.

I bought OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.2 in the App Store. I have accidentally deleted it from my list of purchases.
How can I restore it in case I need to use it again?

To recover Mountain Lion to your purchases, open App Store > Featured > Account (under Quick Links) > Show hidden purchases, and show OS X Mountain Lion. Finally, it will appear on Purchases tab

I recently formatted my mac and now my previous LION purchase is not on my App Store, how can I reinstall?

    Hi...
See if it's, "hidden"  >>   Mac App Store: Hiding and unhiding purchases
How to re download apps from the Mac App Store:
Open the App Store. From the menu bar click Store > Sign In
Click Purchases from the top of the App Store window.
Select which apps you want to re download. Then right or control click where you see Installed  then click Install.
Make sure and use the same Apple ID used for the original purchase.

  • After upgrading to Mountain Lion, i can't connect to app store or safari

After Upgrading to Mountain Lion, I can't access the app store, itunes store, Safari - anything that requires the internet.  I tried resetting my modem and rebooting.
I also tried deleting items from the keychain that look like they are related to the above.  When I did that and rebooted, It works for a little while, and then gets back to where it won't login to anything on the internet and safari won't load anything.

This means that at some time you had the iWork ’09 trial installed. You need to delete the trial & then reinstall from the boxed DVD or the Mac App Store. The files to delete are the iWork ’09 folder from the main HD > Applications; the iWork ’09 folder in HD > Library > Application Support & the individual iWork application plist files found in HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Preferences for each user. Yvan Koenig has written an AppleScript that removes the files. You can find it on his box.com account in for_iWork'09 > other_iWork'09 items > uninstall iWork '09.zip.

  • I purchased Lion but cannot connect to the app store.  Any ideas?

Cannot connect to the App Store.  I am on internet and Safari works just fine.  Ideas?

I purchased Lion thru the app store and it was deducted from my account.  I cannot download it.  I can download other apps, but it seems like Lion is hung up or something.  I restarted the iMac, have plenty of memory and space but when I hit download, it just says "waiting" then says cannot connect with the app store.
    Thanks for any help.

  • I can't download Mountain Lion. Get unknown error from app store.

Has anyone else had this problem?  I'm using OS Lion now. Have updated all my apps. Looks like everything is cleared to go.
When I click "download" from the app store, I get an error. Says unknown error. Try again later.

Press Shift key while your Mac is starting and download OS X

  • Lion purchase doesn't show in app store

When Lion was released I purcased it from the App Store.  But it doesn't show in my "Purchases" area.  What's up with that?  Is it possibly one doesn't need it with the Recovery HD created during install?  It gives one the feeling of not having a net under you when you're on the tight wire.  I did purchase the Lion on a thumb drive a while back, so I'm not without the ability to reinstall.  Just curious as to why it's not in my App Store purchases.
    Tom

If you're using the same AppleID to login, it should be there. If not, contact the App Store. For what it's worth, your safety net is to make a copy of Lion's installer app after downloading so you don't have to waste time and resources DLing it again, since the dumb installer deletes itself from /Applications as part of its install routine. Alternatively, extract the InstallESD.dmg file from the USB stick, mount it, restore it to a 10 GB partition, and use that. Much faster than any USB method.

  • Lion: Can't re-download from App store "newer version???"

So I am trying to create a USB backup for booting/repair.  Apple has what I thought a great solution here... http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
    towards bottom of page.
It states you can re-download from the App store from the Purchased tab by using "Option" and clicking on Lion to make it turn to install.
That all works, but when I click on install it says I have a newer version and if I want to install I have to move the other one to the trash.
That seems kind of counter intuitive to me.  Any suggestions how I can create a .dmg on a USB drive????
I have my machined backed up to Time Machine so not terribly worried as I could possibly use the Command R on boot to recover, but a thumb drive would be easier.  Thanks...Beo63

I see.. I was getting that message on the Lion app page I misunderstood your instructions and was option clicking on the Lion Icon which made 'installed' turn into '£20.99' then when I clicked on the £20.99 I got the same message as you about an older version.
When I quit the app store - reopened and just held option when I clicked on the purchases tab - it worked... second time. with the installed button being dark grey so I could re-download.
If your doing the same as above and still getting the newer version message I'm afraid Im stumped. Best of luck!

  • Download via app store

I bought Logic Pro ages ago using an Apple ID which has since been migrated to iCloud. Can I somehow download Logic Pro to my desktop via the App Store for free??

"Ages ago", that means: you bought the Logic Studio box in the Apple Store. This is not the Mac App Store, which carries Logic Pro since December 8th. So the answer is: no, you can't.

  • How do I review the purchases I've made via app store?

More specifically, I'm interested in the in-app purchses and in-app upgrades purchased. I'm aware that emails will be sent to me but these are often untimely and lacking in details.
This is not helped at all by the overly convoluted way that Apple uses for password security. Reentering the same password x times does not make it more secure! In my opinion, this has the exact opposite effect. Out of shear frustration, most of us (myself definitely) will find ourself becoming conditioned to blindly tapping away our password whenever requested without thinking.
Consider this: "Hello, can I steal you password?"  "Password? Here you go."
Why not introduce a new (purchase) password. Simple, current password for login and authentication and the new password to make purchases. At least then we know we are not buying something multiple times, and Apple can authentical to their hearts content. We'll need to pay attention to why we are typing in our  password too which must be a plus to security. Clear as mud? Lol.
Thanks in advance if anyone can answer my question.

    Thanks for the.reply.
I am not opposed to the app store system at all. In fact, I appreciate Apple taking steps to secure it. But ask yourself this. On your last purchase where you had to reenter your password multiple times, what purposes were they for. I doubt that any of us can remember and pay much attention to it after a while. And if someone did compromise my password, I don't think they'll have trouble retyping it. Introducing a purchase password would not only explicitly differentiate between making a purchase and logging-in, it will also make the system more secure and less confusing.
My problem with the app store system, at present, is with its apparent lack of details. Especially with in-app purchases and upgrades. Did I make the purchase or was that for authentication? The email usually arrive a few days later. There is no quick way to check. Ok, if you are using credit/debit cards you might be able to check with your card company online. But what if you are using vouchers? Shouldn't there be an itemised list of purchases and prices paid. I guess thats what I am looking for. Help anyone?

  • Cant download at app store after several attempts to change apple id

i had changed my apple id 4x these past few days. however i finally decided to use my first id. now whenever i want to download via app store, theres a pop-out saying:'this apple id has not yet been connected to iTunes'
how can i conect to iTunes without using credit card due to i ont have one.

You cannot install any apps at all without entering a credit card now - or without creating yet another new Apple ID. If you did not want to use a credit card with your Apple ID, there is a very specific way that you have to create the account. If you don't or didn't follow those steps exactly, you have no choice now but to enter a credit card - or create a new Apple ID without the credit card.
If you create a new Apple ID, you will also need another email address since you have already associated your current email address to the ID that needs a credit card. You also have to sign out of your ID in Settings>iTunes and App Stores before you can create anothe Apple ID.
