Mountain Lion/SD Card reader

MBP Early 2011 running 10.8.
Had no issues with Lion, since upgrade cannot get my SD cards recognised.
Reader shows up in hardware;
Built in SD Card Reader:
  Vendor ID:          0x14e4
  Device ID:          0x16bc
  Subsystem Vendor ID:          0x14e4
  Subsystem ID:          0x0000
  Revision:          0x0010
  Link Width:          x1
  Link Speed:          2.5 GT/s
But cards are not being seen. Restarted the Finder, ensured that Finder preferences has everything switched on to display - both on sidebar and on desktop, rebooted my Mac, tried "wriggling" and reinserting multiple times the cards. All recognised as usual in my other computer and cameras. Nothing.
At this rate I am going to have to buy an USB card reader, I have seen a couple of other people here with the same problem but no fix.
Anybody got any more ideas?

Thanks for the tip - I tried it but no difference for me. I have even dug out my can of air (aerosol especially for blowing dust from electronic components) and give the reader a good blast.
I used to use the SD slot every couple of days, never had any reliability issues with any of my cards, and literally the day after I installed mountain lion I couldn't use the reader at all. Not a single card works.
If there is something in there it is well wedged. Next step is going to have to be to pull apart the macbook and see if I can get to the card reader and see if it can be pulled apart. Anybody got any tips on this?
And no I don't have AppleCare and this is an early 2011 model so out of warranty...

  • Combine PDFs using Preview in Mountain Lion (other threads read)

I have reviewed several threads about combining PDFs in Mountain Lion.  I will ultimately learn Automator but for now, I have a relatively simple question:
    1) I open multiple PDFs in Preview, one window per PDF
    2) I drag thumbnail pages from documents 2 through n onto document 1 so that it makes one long document.  ie. one unbroken string of pages and not sections within a PDF
Question:  How do I save this combined document without deleting or affecting the first document?
Duplicate causes one of the uncombined documents to pop up with the filename highlighted.  I don't see how to give the combined document a new filename for saning
Rename gives me a file of the three combined documents but the first document disappears
Save overwrites the first document with the combined document
I must be missing something simple.  I recognize that the lack of "Save As" is a sensitive issue but ultimately, that's what I want to do:  Save the combined document with its own filename and have the individual documents intact.

    ncasey88 and Old Toad:
Thank you for your quick responses.  Unfortunately, with both methods, the first PDF gets updated.
e.g. Files are 1.pdf, 2.pdf, 3.pdf, each is one page long, and I open each in its own Preview window.  I drop thumbnails of 2.pdf and 3.pdf onto the thumbnail area of 1.pdf.  I export or print into a file called 123.pdf
Result:  1.pdf and 123.pdf have the same information (all three files).  2.pdf and 3.pdf are unchanged but 1.pdf is three pages long.

  • "mountain lion" esata card drives won't mount

Just installed mountain lion on my brand new (2x2.66 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon) MacPro tower with an Apple store bought eSata card.
Yesteray everythign fine under regular Lion.
Today, with Mountain Lion, my drives on the eSata card will not mount.
If I connect the drive sthrough firewire they do mount (phew!)
But I need them to operate under eSata for speed and because I have a lot of external drives.
It only appears to be a Mountain Lion issue.
    Anyone else report problems?

Hmmm..there were never any drivers for my card. In fact I don't even know what my card is..because it just came from Apple.
    Okay..I found drivers..

  • Reminders - Mountain Lion-  hard to read

The reading of Reminders is not easy. The text size is too small and then there is a grey text beneath which is almost impossible to read
Is there any way to improve the reading. The notification is also quite poor: i would like to choose a sound for notification
As it is now I prefer to use reminders on my Android phone rather than on Mac

  • Mountain Lion FTP server read only issue

Can anyone help me figure out why my users have read only access via FTP.
    1. I created networked users and groups
    2. shared some folders
    3. activated ftp on one of those shares
First issue was users could access that share via AFP but could not connect via FTP?
Finally I figured out that each user had to have a login shell of /bin/bash.
Aslo had to let each networled user to be bale to log in?
then if i log in with an ftp client it works i can write files but if i log in via finder (apple K) connect to server ftp://server.local i can only get read access and not RW?
I think this may have something to do with passive and active mode but can anyone help?
Why is it so hard to set up?
    Thanks

Just so you know the update is, apparently apple has not allowed wright access via ftp thorugh the finder since before 10.2.
So i guess its just one of thos things that apple got rid of.
Sorry unless you use a workaround like. http://code.google.com/p/macfuse/
    Good luck

  • Mountain lion cant read drives??

Anyone find that mountain lion has trouble reading external drives such as STARDOM drives. It can find the drive, but no directory comes up???

Yes it is still connected to the network
I can ping it, i can reach it and as i said before i see it correctly in the finder on the left bar but
the icon is vanished from the desktop and so also from the other programs: Adobe Bridge for example
So I have to click again on the icon in the finder to mount it again

Please google search for "Mountain Lion disk crash" before upgrading you mac pro. You might need to replace you Mac hard drive after the upgrade. So many people had the same problems including me.
Be aware of the Mountain Lion upgrade problem.

  • HT201514 I upgraded to OS Mountain Lion. I checked on mt Time machine and found that I had to go to Time Machine, select Disk, and found the only options were to either "Cancel" or "Remove Disk". It appears my Time Machine is no longer working since the u

I upgraded to Mountain Lion and now I'm having trouble with Time Machine. It appears that since the upgrade Time Machine is not recognizing the external hard drive. When I go to Time Machine and select Disk for the current HD I am left with one of two options: "cancel" or "remove Disk." I am worried that I will loss my backups.

    Is this a usb drive?
It will probably never recognise that drive ever again.. Mountain Lion has this little bug where it cannot recognise some USB drives.. I don't understand it.. but it just happened to me and a quick google shows it is not uncommon.
Your backups are not lost.. they are just not accessible.. you need to plug the drive into a computer with a better.. older OS. Find a new USB drive that Mountain Lion can actually read.. and even write to.. and copy the files across.

Upgrading to Snow Leopard, Lion, or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
You can purchase Snow Leopard by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service. The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will receive physical media - DVD - by mail.
Third-party sources for Snow Leopard are:

    Snow Leopard from eBay
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download.

  • Where are the Mountain Lion and Mavericks OS downloads?

I have new software that will only run on Mountain Lion or Mavericks and not Yosemite. My Macbook Pro currently has Lion. Both Mountain Lion and Mavericks have been removed from the app store. Any suggestions on where to download?

Click here and contact Apple. If you can't get Mavericks, buy Mountain Lion.

  • OS X Mountain Lion installation

    dear Community,
I have recently bought a brand new Mac Book Pro September 28th. I would have expected to have OS X Mountain lion already installed in it but it was not the case. I see that I have to pay for it on App store apparently. I have also read in web forums that OS X Mountain Lion is free for all mac purchased after 11th June.
Is it the case please? I would like to know if I have to buy it or if OS X mountain Lion would be free in my case as I have just bought my machine.
It is my first Mac purchase so sorry if my question sounds like one from a beginner.
    Thanks inadvance for your help

Contact your vendor about replacing it with one from inventory that has Mountain Lion pre-installed or:

  • Mountain lion has killed my mac book pro. After downloading and trying to install, I am stuck in a loop of "not enough room to install on this disk" and not being able to access the old disk's data to open up space.

Mountain lion has killed my mac book pro. After downloading and trying to install, I am stuck in a loop of "not enough room to install on this disk" and not being able to access the old disk's data to open up space.

Nope. It just opened the installer and stayed in the same loop.
It tells me to choose a startup disk but the only option is the HD which it will not use because it says it cannot gather enough information.
Eveything was working fine until the mountain lion failed install.
