Mountain Lion server and windows 7 clients

Hi guys!
I have a MacMini Server (with OS X 10.8.3 server). Several clients connect to the server everyday. And weird thing is happend. I cannot delete any folder when I am logged on with Windows 7 (it's ultimate one). Every users can do 'Read & Write' and I can delete the same folder with Mac OS X (With Same user account, even it's not admin)
The only condition that I can delete forders is.....
1. The folders have to be made by the users who create.
2. Without logging out (After log out and re-log in, I can't delete even I made the folder)
I don't know why it's happening. Is there any suggetions that I can try for this issue?
Thank you! Have a nice day!

  • Mountain Lion Server with Windows 8.1 Client communication problems

We have a Mountain Lions Server and several diffent Clients that need access to it.
Macs work fine  Linux clients work fine
Windows 8.1 only "sees" the router but not the Server or the Printer
the "Windows proofs" tell me its a Problem with the server
has anyone an Idea what I can do?
And pls don't tell me I should change all Windows clients to Mac. If I had so much money I would, but at the moment the existing systems need to stay.

and no google doesn't solve all Problems

Well no, Google doesn't solve all problems, but its a great place to start.
As far as your issue goes, you need to provide more details before anyone could begin to guess, as we're not mind readers here.
What do you mean by "Windows only sees the router, not the server"?  What does "sees" mean in this context?
Who / what is Windows proofs?
How are you trying to access the server?  SMB file sharing?  If so, how are you trying to connect?  What happens when you try?  Do the users trying to authenticate to the server have an account on it and access to the necessary services?

  • Upgrading to Mountain Lion server and all services breaks down...

    Hi!
I have, after endless hours of scanning logs and .plist and other files' content and permission settings found why Mountain Lion Server.app in some cases doesn't seem to be able to take control over all service, stating it can't read or write its own setting files etc.
As a Swede I of course run a system set in the Swedish language. Mountain Lion can't upgrade a Swedish system, only fore languages are accepted !!!
    See Migration Logs!
//Excerpt from the Mail Migration log:
Begin Mail Migration: Thu Aug  2 19:34:24 2012
    purge: 0
    sourceRoot: /Library/Server/Previous
    sourceType: System
    sourceVersion: 10.7.4
    targetRoot: /
    language: sv
Did not supply a valid language for the --language parameter, needs to be one of [en | fr | de | ja]
As you can see, it can only upgrade in English, French, German and Japanese system language. With no inital warnings the system crashes and causes a true mess half the way through its installation when you start Server.app.
    Solution:
Throw Server.app in the trash or move it outside the Application folder, to force the computer to realized "its not a server". It can take half a minute or so for the system to realize it is no longer a server. You will see a sign.
Change the language setting to English in your system preferences and restart your computer. Move back Server.app from the trash (or where you put it) and start Server.app, thereby initiating a new Servers installation. I was happy to find that all mail accounts etc was found again. I thought for several hours they where lost.
The various sites hosted by the server did however not appear in their correct new location (when I tryed this). I had to manually move them from the "Previous" folder in /Library/Server/Previous/Library/Server/Web/Data/Sites/   to    /Library/Server/Web/Data/Sites/
I hope this helps anyone out there....
    Cheers!
    Stefan

Please explain.... when are you stoped from upgrading?
I haven't actually had problems with the actual OS upgrade it is when you launch Server.app the first time everything goes to f-n h....
Server.app should reconfigure and move around a lot of files and it does, but not succeeding doing it correctly. Many services can't read their config files and have them in two places. I trying to figure out which ones are being used. Somethime both locations are used but only parts of the settings in the files !?!?
    I am soon giving up...

  • I am running Mountain Lion Server, and the App Store indicates an upgrade to Server.App version 2.2.5. When I try to upgrade it will not install. Is that because OSX8 is no longer supported; and if so, is there an alternate source for this upgrade if

Mountain Lion Server.app no longer supported?

Probably  a long shot, but try resetting the App Store and Clearing Cookies.

  • Mountain Lion (server and client) and iOS Notes syncing

I run an IMAP server on my Mac mini running Mountain Lion 10.8.3 and Server 2.2.1. I have an email account on this server and can access and update Mail on both my MacBook Air (Mac OS X 10.8.3) and my iPhone (iOS 6.1.3) and see the results on the other device.  However, I cannot get Notes to sync.
I created a note on my iPhone but it does not appear on my MacBook.  This is the only account that has Notes enabled on my iPhone; if I turn Notes off for this account the note disappears and comes back when turn them back on again.
I created a note on my MacBook but it does not appear on my iPhone.  This is the only account that has Notes enabled on my MacBook; if I turn Notes off for this account the note disappears and comes back when turn them back on again.
How can I get Notes to sync between my OS X and iOS devices?
NOTE: Helpful as you may try to be, I am not looking for alternatives to Notes.  Syncing to any IMAP server should work and there is nothing to say it doesn't work so I want to get it working for me.  It is all about storing my data on my server and none of the other options address this.

After trying everything else, I discovered the answer by just "playing around:" You need to allow clear text passwords for Mail.  Once I'd made this change my Notes automatically appeared and stay in sync on all of my devices (iMac, MacBook Air and iPhone).  This is still working after the update to OS X Mavericks and Server 3.

  • Mountain Lion Server and SMB file sharing

We have in our company data center two Macs, a Power PC 8GB ram with Leopard 10.5.8 and a Mac Pro Quad Core Nehalem 32GB with Mountain Lion 10.8.3 and OSX Server 2.2.1.
The Power Pc SMB File Sharing, with the limit of 10 concurrent users, it works perfectly.
Instead, the Mac Pro SMB File Sharing drops randomly SMB sharing with the consequent loss of the changes made by Client to opened files.
Is there anyone else with the same problem?
Is there any solution, in addition to turn off the Mac Pro and switch to a Windows server?

Yes. It works good however a few tweeks necessary. In parallels configuration I had to change the 1 CPU setting to 2 and allowed a bit more memory. Before that things where a little slow in the virtual macine. Hopefully you are operating with a quad core.

  • Windows 2008 Server and Windows 8 clients

    Hey Guys,
I have had this problem for sometime now and really need a solution. I have Windows 2008 Enterprise Server running about 200+ terminal services clients. All Windows XP clients are fine, Windows 7 clients have issues when they get an updated version of
remote desktop client(to solve the issue we simply rollback the update), Windows 8 clients cannot connect and use out remote app. The issue stems from the newer version of remote desktop client (on windows 7 and embedded in windows 8) cannot connect to our
terminal server and generates an error and immediately disconnects. The error says "
Your computer can't connect to the remote computer because an error occurred on the remote computer that you want
    to connect to
So my questions are, how can i update my Windows 2008 Terminal server version to support these clients, or do u have migrate to Windows 2012? Or is there a solution to my current problem which will allow my client to connect and use the remoteapps?

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Please follow the below steps and verify result.
LAN manager authentication level settings (Local security policy->Local Policies->Security Options->Network Security: LAN Manager Authentication level).
Try to change it to "Send NTLMv2 response only"
    Snap:
If still face the issue please install this Hotfix.
RDS client computer cannot connect to the RDS server by using a remote desktop connection in Windows

  • Problems with Solaris 10 Secure Desktop server and Windows XP Client

Solaris 10 Secure Desktop server - Windows XP Client - I've tried to open the Solaris Machine's desktop using the browser based http://MysolarisServerName/sdg and the windows native client
    http://MySolarisServerName/tarantella.
I log in ok to the Solaris Server.
I can open a VT420 session with the solaris machine, and this works OK, but whenever I try anything else e.g. smc, or full screen desktop it doesn't. I get various error messages e.g. can't open display, and Session Failed - X Session timeout.
I've also installed Cgywin X Server on the Win XP machine to see if this makes a difference, but it doesn't.
    Any clues anyone?

Being able to run the VT420 session, but not any X-Window sessions is the clue; it's an X-specific problem. Most likely, ssh isn't configured correctly, see: http://docs.sun.com/source/819-4309-10/en-us/base/indepth/ssh.html
Pasting in the (most) relevant bit:
    Adding support for X applications
To support X applications through OpenSSH, enable X11 forwarding in the OpenSSH configuration file. On each Secure Global Desktop host:
    1. Edit the sshd_config file and include the following:
    X11Forwarding yes
    2. Edit the ssh_config file and include the following:
    ForwardAgent yes
    ForwardX11 yes
    3. Restart the SSH daemon.
    Using SSH and X authorization
If SSH connections fail, when X authorization is enabled, you may have to run the SSH daemon in ipv4-only mode because Secure Global Desktop may not support the xsecurity extension used on your server. You enable ipv4-only mode by editing your system SSH configuration file. For example:
    * On SUSE Linux, edit the /etc/sysconfig/ssh file and add a SSHD_OPTS="-4" line.
    * On Red Hat Enterprise Linux, edit the /etc/sysconfig/sshd file and add a OPTIONS="-4" line.
Note If the SSH configuration file does not exist on your system, you can create it.
You must restart the SSH daemon after making this change.

  • Lion Server and 10.5 Clients....

We're just setup a new Lion Server as OD Master and imported our users from our old OD using the "Restore" function within Server Admin.
My test Lion client can login fine using a network account but when I try the same account from a 10.5 client I get the following error:
You are unable to log in to the the user account "breilly"  at this time. Logging in to the account failed because an error occurred.
When I checked the console logs I found this error:
    11/08/2011 14:21:02 authorizationhost[318] ERROR | -[HomeDirMounter mountNetworkHomeWithURL:attributes:dirPath:username:] | PremountHomeDirectoryWithAuthentication( url=afp://ncs-mac-od1.ncs.local/Staffhomes, homedir=/Network/Servers/ncs-mac-od1.ncs.local/Staffhomes/breilly, name=breilly ) returned 2
It seems very odd that I can log in on a Lion client but not a 10.5 client
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is a simple way for unmanaged clients.
To point an unmanaged client to your update server, enter the following command in terminal:
sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate CatalogURL http://<your_server>:8088/index-lion-snowleopard-leopard.merged-1.sucatalog
(replace <your_server> with the dns name of your update server.  If the unmanaged client runs snowleopard or leopard, adjust the url accordingly. For snowleopard clients, remove the "lion-" part. For leopard clients, remove the "lion-snowleopard-" part

I am have issues with the Mail Server though. As long as I dissable everthing but the Blacklist filter all works fine. If I enable Junk Mail or Virus filters I get this:

From doing some serching it seems to have something to do with amavisd but I don't think it is installed on my system. If it is I can't seem to find it. Should it be installed with the Server Software?

  • Configuring postfix on Mountain Lion Server

I'm trying to upgrade from Snow Leopard Server to Mountain Lion Server and did an install of Mountain Lion Server on top of a working instance of Snow Leopard Server.  The "crippled" GUI on Mountain Lion Server is forcing me into using terminal to configure Postfix to handle incoming email.
I would like to configure Postfix to only accept email that is forwarded from a gmail business account.  The public email address is [email protected] which is received by Google Mail, goes through their spam filters and then is auto-forwarded to  [email protected]
The server WAN domain is nonpublic.com  The ip address is 96.231.165.126
The server LAN is nonpublic.local  The ip address is 10.6.18.201
The server is a MacMini running Mountain Lion Server 10.6.8 hostname server so the FQDN is server.public.com.
The network on the MacMini is configured to handle both LAN and WAN traffic through the 1GB physical ethernet port which plugs into a CISCO 3750 switch.  The external traffic to the WAN flows through the switch as tagged packets.  The LAN traffic is not tagged.  The VLAN connection is running 802.1q
When an email is sent through the WAN to [email protected] the Postfix SMTP log shows:
    Jun  7 19:29:22 server.public.com postfix/smtpd[42181]: connect from cisco.public.com[96.231.165.123]
    Jun  7 19:29:22 server.public.com postfix/smtpd[42181]: disconnect from cisco.public.com[96.231.165.123]
I can send emails from a client on the LAN through this server with no problems.  The incoming mail server can connect to the machine via the Cisco router/switch but Postfix just shows "cisco" as the connection (that's the router's DNS name) and provides no more info.  I suspect Postfix possibly doesn't like the 802.1q connection and drops the SMTP request to connect on port 25.
I have turned on "debug" logging in Postfix, but that is all that appears in the SMTP log file
I've spent most of the week reading through everything I can find on how to install and configure postfix on Mountain Lion Server and work around the cripled GUI in the "server" application.  I'm barely OK using Terminal and not familiar at all with configuring Postfix directling editing the config file.
What is the best approach to configure Postfix to allow SMTP connections from the outside to deliver incoming email that is forwarded from gmail.com?
I did find an "aliases" file in /etc/postfix/aliases but I'm not sure how to add the aliases and if adding aliases with a text editor is going to cause the "server" app problems and if the changes will be lost when the machine is restarted.
    Any help would be appreciated.

MrHoffman, thank you for your response to my challenge to get the new test server working.  This is a migration from Snow Leopard Server to Mountain Lion Server.

The names match. There is nothing to change.

    blue:~ admin$
I agree that I should change the LAN domain from .local to something like .internal or whatever.   I've been running with .local for 5 years  on snow leopard server and never had any problems so that was a low priority.
I hope I'm just not seeing some obvious setting in main.cf

  • VPN to Mountain Lion Server issues

    Hi,
I checked a lot of VPN threads here today, but I wasn't able to find a solution for my problem just now. I try to connect by VPN to my Mountain Lion Server, but I get an error message that the VPN server is not responding. I get this message from iPhone and Mac. The Mountain Lion Server is a new installation, no upgrade from an older server.
    Some informations on my setup:
I installed the server with a hostname like myserver.mycompany.com and option 3 (internet access), as I want to use it for email at a later stage. All services are working fine (except VPN). DNS is active, but basically it only contains the adress myserver.mycompany.com and forwards everything else to our router.
I changed the DNS settings of our domain ( hosted by an ISP - so not in the local DNS ! ). I created a subdomain vpn.mycompany.com which points to the static IP of our router.
In the router I opened the UDP ports 500, 1701 and 4500, and for 1701 i made the same thing for TCP (I found this in a forum, but I think this is not necessary?), the ports are pointing to the ip of the os x server.
In OS X Server I started VPN for L2TP using the vpn.mycompany.com hostname, and a shared secret.
When I try to connect with I client from outside I try to connect using L2TP via vpn.mycompany.com using the shared secred and user-id and password. The user-id is created in OS X Mountain Lion server and is configured to use VPN service. When trying to connect I get the error message "L2TP-VPN server is not repsonding...".
In the log file of the server I see some entries for each connect:
    Oct 10 20:21:45 myserver.mycompany.com racoon[13873]: Connecting.
    Oct 10 20:21:45 myserver.mycompany.com racoon[13873]: IPSec Phase1 started (Initiated by peer).

No more entries in log file now. Anyone any ideas what's going wrong. Might there be a problem as I use another servername outside as inside (vpn... instead of myserver...)?
    Thanks!

Solved, first of all we tested to establish the VPN connection locally by adding the ip address of the server to /etc/hosts for vpn.mycompany.com. The VPN connected without problems then, so it was clear that it is a firewall/router problem, and not a server problem.
After that we studied some more documentations and found that we don't have to open port 50, but ip protocoll 50 (ESP) on the firewall. After that was done, the connection was working from the internet as well.

  • How do I share a folder over the internet with Mountain Lion server?

I am new to using formal servers.  In Snow Leopard I was able to use web sharing to serve a small website and if I wanted to share a folder with someone I would  just provide the person I wanted to share a file with the path to the file inside the sites directory.  With Mountain Lion this functionality was removed from the sharing section of system preferences.
I purchased mountain lion server and was able to restore the website serving ability, but I haven't been able to figure out how to share a folder.  I am still looking over what documentation I can find, but for the most part it just tells me to set up the services without telling me how.  Any assistance would be helpful.  Networking is not my area of expertise.
    Best Regards,
    David Finell

I purchased server to assist with this as I am unfamiliar with the command line protocols for using apache.  Because of the UNIX architechture of OSX and I presume apache, I am uncomfortable using the command line for fear of causing serious problems.
Unfortunately, the documentation that I have seen for mountain lion server is wanting in either its completeness or layout/functionability.  To summarize the server instructions as I understand them.  It just says to configure it and my system to meet my requirements without telling me how.
I am confident that both the apache command line and server are capable of accomplishing what I was able to do before under snow leopard.  I just haven't figured out how.
I was able to provide a link to family and clients like http://ipaddress/~user/folder
    This no longer works.

  • IMessages in Mountain Lion Server

    All,
Our company just upgraded our Apple Lion server to Mountain Lion server and I would like to setup our users iMessage (or iChat) client using their Active Directory credentials.  I have bound the server to Active Directory and i'm able to use most Apple server services with our AD accounts, but not iMessage.  I know this was possible in Lion server but i'm not sure how to do it on Mountain Lion server.  And if it's possible, i would like to have their buddy lists auto populate and list all the employee's names.  Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Are you talking about the account on the client computer or the server?  We have all our client computers bound to AD but i have the server logged in as a local account.  Even though the server is logged in as a local account, all other services work properly with AD.

  • IMac 27" (late 2011), Mountain Lion, Bootcamp, and OSX partition disappearing and refusing to mount

    Hey all,
I'm putting this as a question in the discussion forms for bootcamp as I'm not sure where else to put it, but I resolved an issue I was having and having spent all of yesterday and the day before reading through this community and some others looking for answers and mostly seeing "hope you have backups, time to format!" (which to me is not always the best answer), I thought I would put it here for search purposes (with all the key words I had to use) in case anyone else has a similar issue.
    My scenario was this:
2011 27" iMac with Mountain Lion installed and Windows 7 installed on a boot camp partition.
    1) Haven't been in windows in a while, wanted to play some windows only steam games. Load windows 7. All is well. Have fun. Time to reboot into osx.
    2) Reboot using bootcamp toolbar icon.
    3) Wander away from computer. Come back to find windows 7 has loaded again. "That's weird", I think. Reboot again, this time hold down option key to select boot device.
    4) Discover the only options are the Bootcamp partition and the Recovery partition. OSX "Macintosh HD" partition has disappeared. Huh.
    5) Load recovery partition and load disk utility.
    6) Review disk utility to discover the Macintosh HD partition shows up in the list, but won't mount. Run verify and repair tools. Errors are as follows: Invalid node structure, invalid key length, invalid record count, etc etc. Running a repair fails - disk utility advises me to back up and erase the drive and that the partition is unrepairable. No offense disk utility, but I think I'll try a few more options first.
    7) Purchase DiskWarrior on advice of multiple posters in other threads and general online consensus of it being capable of fixing these sorts of errors. Go through process of loading bootable dvd.
    8) Diskwarrior cannot see the Macintosh HD partition. This is bad. Review more threads. Advice is that if diskwarrior can't fix it, hope you have backups and wipe the drive. Likely to be hardware failure. I'm skeptical of hardware failure, because windows is chugging along running fine if I boot into it, and I ran a scan of the windows partition and it came back clean. SMART status is also showing the drive is ok. However, running out of options and starting to lose hope.
    9) Follow advice in this support topic: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1417?viewlocale=de_de Both safe mode and disk utility aren't options (safe mode won't work without it seeing the partition) so sounds like fsck is the final option.
    10) Start up in Single User Mode (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1492). Run fsck per instructions. It reports back ok.
    11) Realize fsck is checking the recovery partition, and not my damaged OSX partition. Realize I don't know anything about unix commands and have no idea how to tell fsck to check a different partition.
    12) Learn that I need to find out what the drive id is for the damaged partition. Reboot, load up disk utility, select greyed out "macintosh HD" partition, click info. Write down the id: disk0s2 (likely to be the default for you as well if you have one drive in your imac and a default bootcamp install).
    13) Go back into single user mode and type the following (without quotes): "fsck_hfs -fy /dev/disk0s2"
    14) (Forgot to copy down exactly what it said at this point, but gist of it was that the drive had errors and isnt repairable). Feel like ****, thinking this is unlikely to resolve itself nicely.
    15) With nothing to lose, try to force fsck to rebuild the catalog - "fsck_hfs -rc -d /dev/disk0s2" I found this syntax on some forums and can't find the thread again. I have no idea what the -rc and -d do that -fy don't, but if someone can let me know, that'd be cool. Either way, this resulted in something actually happening. Tells me it is "rebuilding catalogue b-tree". Still, finishes with a bunch of errors about improperly linked files, more node errors, etc etc.
    16) Retry "fsck_hfs -fy /dev/disk0s2". It seems to be doing stuff now, even though there are lots of errors. Continue to re-run fsck using this syntax. Probably ran it 10-15 times. Takes over an hour. Finally, minimal errors being reported.
    17) Realize that perhaps I should try Diskwarrior again now, since I've managed to do soemthing to the partition with fsck.
    18) Run Diskwarrior from bootable DVD. Success! It now sees the damaged partition. Reports that it has a bunch of damaged crtitical files, and needs to be repaired, but hey, at least it can see it.
    19) Let Diskwarrior do its thing, and reboot.
    20) Boot from repaired OSX partition. Rejoice. Immediately plug back in the timemachine drive you foolishly unplugged to take away over the holidays and neglected to plug back in before you had commenced work on stuff you didnt want to lose through formatting, which is why you are so desperate to recover files rather than wiping and restoring from time machine backups and avoiding this whole mess.
TL;DR - If Disk Utility and DriveWarrior fail you, try running fsck (using different syntax that apple recommends) as many times as it takes to get the partition to a stage where diskwarrior can see it. All advice I saw for similar questions was to erase, reinstall OSX, and restore from time machine backup. For those of you who are foolish like me and had files that werent time machine'd, or those who operate without, maybe try this.
    Hope this helps!

    What -rc & -d do.
    From: The fsck_hfs manual page.
    https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#documentation/Darwin/Reference/ManPages /man8/fsck_hfs.8.html
-d      Display debugging information.  This option may provide useful information when fsck_hfs cannot repair a damaged file system.
-r      Rebuild the catalog btree.  This is synonymous with -Rc.
-R flags Rebuilds the requested btree.  The following flags are supported:
                             a       Attribute btree
                             c       Catalog btree
                             e       Extents overflow btree
I had the same problem as you but unfortunately "fsck_hfs -rc -d /dev/disk0s2" is failing saying: "The volume   could not be verified completely." I believe it's supposed to be telling me the partition's name (normally "Macintosh HD") between 'volume' and 'could' because there's 3 spaces in between the words.
"fsck_hfs -fy /dev/disk0s2" is failing with the same error.
I tried "fsck_hfs -r -d /dev/disk0s2" since the c appears redundant with a lowercase R. and it again says it cannot be verified completely and adds "volume check failed with error 7". Which unfortunately is not documented on the fsck_hfs man page!
Unfortunately for me, Diskwarrior still can't see my busted Mac OS partition.
