Mountain Lion stuck on 53.25MB downloaded?
Hi guys,
I have a 27" iMac and i just purchased Mountain Lion. I started downloading it but it got stuck at 53.25 MB. I stopped that one and tried again 5 times !! It always gets stuck at this moment... Any help?
P.S I live in England
I also have a BT and using the 2Wire BT Business Hub and experienced this same problem.
I spent ages on the phone to them, and they are claiming it's Apple's fault, unless they can get enough complaints to investigate otherwise ... so it looks like it won't be fixed anytime soon for the casual user.
If you are technically minded, then you can setup a VPN on Amazon EC2. A Micro Instance is in the free tier.
Choose the default listed Ubuntu AMI and install this script https://raw.github.com/gist/950539/pptpd.sh
It will setup a PPTP VPN, your own private tunnel. Remember to Allow all TCP traffic to your instance, in Security Groups from your own IP.
I just did that and once the download was passed 53.25 I paused it and disconnected the VPN and unpaused and it is no going over BT. Then terminate the VPN instance.
Alternatively use hotspotshield, but do be aware it may be slow.

Thanks, bb2804In cases like this, if you have an Apple store near by, they will most likely install the OS free of charge for you, if you can't bring your Apple ID along to prove you've paid for it.

my imac is running mountain lion and last night i downloaded maverick. in midst of installing it, it said a powerPC app microsoft word would not work so i canceled the install for the time being. my questions is if i choose to finish installing maverick does that mean i will nevver be able to access word documents stored on my desktop? or do the word docs automatically convert to pages or what? i am so confused. would i be better off just sticking with mountain lion and send the maverick install to the trash? hoping someone will be able to answer my question though i am afraid the response is likely to be just stick with mountain lion so you can keep using word. i had been looking forward to maverick but it seems pretty drastic to not have access to microsoft word anymore by switching to maverick. hope someone has an answer so i can have the best of both worlds so to speak!
thanks for your response Csound1 on the peninsula ... if i go ahead and install maverick and then download LibreOffice or OpenOffice will i then be able to access old microsoft word saved documents on my deskstop through those two free alternatives? i am not that knowledgeable about these things so i am not sure if you are saying i will just be able to use libreoffice or openoffice for creating new documents or whether i can access the saved microsoft docs? are they transferred to OO or LO or what and if editing of the old word docs is needed can i do that through the OO and LO programs or apps (see i am not even sure if i am using the correct vocabulary!) hope you can answer this as quick as the first question, so i can decide to stick with mountain lion and trash the maverick install or proceed with maverick install and hoppe that my microsoft word docs are still accessible through OO or LO or adding to myquestion will pages on maverick be able to open the old word documents? thanks again!

I have really slow internet, i bought OS X mountain lion & tried for days to download it. my internet cuts every time & the download restarts from the beginning is thr a way to download the software as a "zip" file or from a link not app store?

Take it somewhere that has better broadband. The best you can do sometimes is invest in new modem that works with your system instead of the rental etc in most cases.
Do a Safe Boot.
Make sure your firewall is set properly. Don't use 3rd party. AV software can get in the way.
Make sure you are getting the service and a clean strong modem signal - slow is one thing but if it drops off and can't maintain a connection you have hardware issues, not software - and upgrade to a new OS doesn't tend to improve, it may even not work with older networking equipment once you do get it.
I agree and think electronic only goes too far. And when you do get it: burn the package and manually set it aside first before running the intaller! make a flash memory installer, put it on DVDs too. -
Yesterday, I purchased Mountain Lion OSX and tried to download it but I don't think the download worked. How can I tell if I am using Mountain Lion and how do I get help if the download was unsuccessful?
Click your Apple menu icon top left corner of your screen.
From the drop down menu click About This Mac.
If Mountain Lion is installed, it will say: v10.8
If not, launch the App Store. From the App Store menu bar click Store > Check for Unfinished Downloads
FYI .. for downloading Mountain Lion from the App Store, a high speed (broadband) internet connection is strongly recommended by Apple as noted here > iTUNES STORE - MAC APP STORE - TERMS AND CONDITIONS
If you need to reinstall OS X or repair the the startup disk Mountain Lion Recovery, that requires broadband access to the internet via Wi-Fi or an Ethernet connection. OS X is downloaded over the internet form Apple when OS X Recovery is used for reinstallation. -

Absolutely. A proxy can prevent the software from downloading and installing.
I realize you have already purchased Lion from the App Store but a workaround in your case would be the thumb drive.

Hi, Thanks for responding. Most downloads you can double click and/or drag over to applications for it to actually install however this one you can't. It just acts like an empty folder and does nothing. I did update to Mountain Lion recently and wondered if it was incompatible or something or if I was doing anything wrong? Thanks.

OS X Mountain Lion: why can't I download you?!
I recently purchased OS X Mountain Lion from the Apple Store. I used the desktop APP Store application to redeem the code for my purchase. There is a big download button for this download but every time I hit it, a pinwheel appears for a moment, and then nothing.
Nothing appears to be downloading. If it were downloading, where exactly would I look to see the status of the download.
I understand we are now in a Maverick world, but my goal today is to get OSX Mountain Lion up and running, and the APP store does not seem to want me to download something that I paid for.
Please Please Help if you have had this problem and found a solution. No forum I've seen so far discusses this problem.Purge your mind about PowerMac and Snow Leopard first. Only Intel (non-PowerMac/IBM) computers, and Mac Pro Early 2008 and later (3,1 and above) can upgrade to 10.8.x
There can be configuration and network issues with download, even some installed 3rd party products can interfere, or rarely a firewall setting (for which you should be using your router firewall anyway).
Also, try repairing permissions, try safe boot, be sure to make a backup! and also to avoid redownload and to allow install and clean install now and later, save the installer package and make a small ML Install system.
Mavericks is free and any Mac Pro that can run ML can also install 10.9

xI bought Mountain LIon but no dmg is downloaded. I can see the invoice from Apple but not the OS I supposed to receive. Is it a bugg?? I have a mac book air. Thanks

However the trick is that it cannot download at all.I m asked to download the application. Then I put my Apple ID, then it start to download but just 1s... Then ....Nothing. No application, no error message... Just a nice invoice.... -
How long should an upgrade to Mountain Lion take? Our original download was interrupted by power outage, it seems to be taking forever.
Update2: There is something very wrong with wireless on mountain lion recovery. I don't know what the problem is, but this link may explain:

Wireless recovery would start out with over 25 hours estimated and kept on failing. It turns out to be a two step process of downloading a few Mbytes then a 4Gbyte .dmg file, but I couldn't even download the Mbyte file. I bought the thunderbolt to gigabit ethernet adapter, plugged it in, restarted recovery and download of a little more than 4Gbytes took less than an hour. My limiting factor was probably comcast home internet rate of 12Mbps. The wi-fi wireless connection should be able to do over 100Mbps, so wireless shouldn't be much slower than wired, except wi-fi wireless is broken. Now that ML is installed and updated, wi-fi seems fine now, as I am using it right now, but I haven't tried downloading a big file yet.
Don't use wi-fi wireless for Mountain Lion recovery. -

Mountain Lion stuck installing in Launchpad. What can I do?
On the Launchpad desktop I can see the icon of Mountain Lion's installer that is stuck. The progression bar has not moved since a few days and I don't know how I can try to reinstall the OS.
Anyone an Idea?Restart your Mac and the download should resume.
