Mountain Lion takes longer to shutdown?

Just upgraded from Lion 10.7.5 to Mountain Lion 10.8.3 yesterday. Have MacBook Pro 8gb ram, 320gb HD. Lion was shutting down completely in 2 to 3 seconds. Probably takes Mountain Lion

Hi, have you solved this problem? I am worried that I'm going to fry my battery if the shutting down process is not fixed!

It's totally dependent on your broadband speed.
It took me about 45 minutes to download, but I have a reasonably fast connection.
It will often say in the purchased pane of the Mac App Store how much longer it will take.

Update2: There is something very wrong with wireless on mountain lion recovery. I don't know what the problem is, but this link may explain:

Wireless recovery would start out with over 25 hours estimated and kept on failing. It turns out to be a two step process of downloading a few Mbytes then a 4Gbyte .dmg file, but I couldn't even download the Mbyte file. I bought the thunderbolt to gigabit ethernet adapter, plugged it in, restarted recovery and download of a little more than 4Gbytes took less than an hour. My limiting factor was probably comcast home internet rate of 12Mbps. The wi-fi wireless connection should be able to do over 100Mbps, so wireless shouldn't be much slower than wired, except wi-fi wireless is broken. Now that ML is installed and updated, wi-fi seems fine now, as I am using it right now, but I haven't tried downloading a big file yet.
Don't use wi-fi wireless for Mountain Lion recovery.

Why does the Finder in Mountain Lion take over 50% of my RAM?

On a supported MacBook Air, Mountain Lion takes up over 50% of the available RAM accounding to every app and even the activity monitor. I only have enough RAM to open one app at a time. Open another and I've run out of memory and the entire Mac freezes up.
!0.6 and 10.7 didn't have this problem, only Mountain Lion does. Anyone else see this problem or have a solution?

No, that made things worse. Now the MacBook Air is frozen completely in Safe Mode. I had to hold down the power button until I shut down hard. Bringing it back up in normal mode, now there's under 200M of RAM left, a fraction of what was available. I can't even open Safari, it keeps running out of memory.
Never had this problem with Snow Leopard and Lion. I opened the App Store where both versions of the operating system are and tried to load each. Neither one would load to let me downgrade. I paid for them, how come I can't use them?!

Do you mean the external hard drive is not mounted on the iMac desktop?
Check if Disk Utility sees the drive. Applications / Utilities / Disk Utility. If the external shows up in the left column, select it and click on Mount.
If it does show up this way, I recommend using DU to Repair Disk.

Mountain Lion has long boot time between apple logo and desktop

hi!
i've had mountain lion since it came out and quite happy with it.
but since about a week or 2 during bootup, after the spinning wheel stops turning and the mouse shows up in the upper left hand corner, it hangs there for about 10-15 seconds before the desktop shows up.
during this time i can use the mouse, but all that shows is the apple logo..
now i've made sure that no applications are to be relaunched after restart.. so the question here is: what's it busy doing during between the apple logo and the desktop? and more importantly: how can i fix it back to the way it was? it used to be a fraction of a second between the two, and now it seems to take forever!
ps: i've a macbook pro 2010 i5 8gb (but since it worked fine before, i don't think that has anything to do with it)

I'm having that same issue. It's annoying. It's seems to take forever, and unnecessary. When the desktop cames in the dock takes long time to show, sometimes...
Can i ask you how long your boot time is?
As you did not post anythong else, did you manage to work out a solution? Or there is not a solution for this?

OS X Mountain Lion, without any third-party app, takes about 9 GB of hard disk. The minimum requirement is 8 GB of hard drive space, so if you have to store a lot of data, you may have to buy an external drive to store all the files you want

Remove any items in System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login Items
Same for HD > Library > StartupItems
Check to see how much free space there is on the startup disk.
Click your Apple icon top left in your screen.
From the drop down menu click About This Mac > More Info then select click Storage from the menu.
Make sure there's at least 15% available disk space. Not enough free space can slow down the startup time.

Problem: Mountain Lion Dictation, Long Session always Fails.

When I use Mountain Lion Dictation, and do one long dictation session, I do not get the chance to hit "Done." The icon automatically goes to "loading" graphic, and never returns any text. It only works If I don't say a lot, and click "done" myself.
However, in the times when I need to say a lot, say I am talking for about a minute, it always automatically goes to "loading" graphics, and then I don't get a result. Not only is this annoying, because it disturbs my train of thought, it also does not even dictate everything I said!! I am wasting my time and I am fed up with it. It would be great to find a solution

Mountain Lion taking longer to fully charge battery than Lion?

In Lion it took me an hour to fully charge the battery and I had roughly 4-8 hrs of battery. Now in Mountain Lion it takes me 4 hrs to fully charge the battery and it only lasts 4 hrs? Any fix for this? I already tried an SMC reset and it didn't work. Please help. Thanks.

MacLink plus and Mountain lion no longer compatible? How to read WP files?

I just upgraded to Mountain Lion and MacLink Plus won't work. When I click on MacLink Plus, I get a message saying PowerPC applications no longer supported. I went to the Dataviz site, but MacLink is not even listed as one of their products. I have hundreds of Word Perfect files from years of using a PC. I was just translating them into readable form as I needed them using MacLink Plus. I will be lost without it. Is there another product out there that can do this? Why is MacLink no longer being supported? Any help will be greatly appreciated. I was using Snow Leopard and that was fine, but I wanted to be able to use ICloud to keep all my devices up to date.

The need for MacLink Plus has greatly diminished in time, as the competing products user base fell off. Think about it: how long ago was it that YOU purchased MacLink Plus. With no income stream, there is no basis to continue to update these products.

When you are done flogging yourself for not being "pro-active & ask[ing] questions beforehand rather than try[ing] to recover afterwards..."
Consider these Workarounds:
1. Restore OS X Snow Leopard;
2. Partition your hard drive or add an external hard drive and install Snow Leopard into it and use the "dual-boot" method to choose between your PowerPC software or Lion/Mt. Lion;
3. Upgrade your software to Intel compatible versions, or find alternative software that will open your data files [as you have discovered, this option may not be available to you]; or
