Mountain Lion text size

I've just downloaded Moutain Lion and the text is really small. I know I can do cmd + to make it bigger but that only works if I stay on the page, if I move away it reverts to being tiny. Also the text in the tool bar has gone miniscule! Is there anything I can do about this? Thanks.

Welcome to the Support Communities. If you're referring to text in Safari, in Safari's Preferences > Advanced tab, there's a minimum font size setting.

  • Safari Mountain Lion text editing glitch

Has anyone else seen problems with the latest Safari on the latest Mountain Lion where text that is being edited causes flashing? I found a YouTube video that demonstrates the problem:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYkqXkJXod4
This is very similar to what I'm seeing on my early-2011 MBP running Mountain Lion. It's especially bad in Google Docs, but it seems to happen when editing text in lots of web apps. The creator of the video suggested turning off the Energy Saver setting "Automatic graphics switching."  He said that fixes the problem but also drains the battery a lot faster.  And I can attest to that.  Just during the time I've been typing this message, my battery has gone from 58% to 54%.  But I haven't seen any of the text editing glitch.
I never saw this in Lion, so I'm guessing it's a new bug introduced in Mountain Lion, or Safari, or in one of the video drivers used by the early-2011 MBP.  So I'm wondering if anyone else has seen this, and if Apple is already aware of it, and if anyone has a better workaround.
    Thanks,
    Todd.
ps. Battery is now at 51%.

This thread seems to be dealing in the area where I am having a problem. I can easily from Safari email the link to a page but if I choose in the mail side to have it as pdf it simply goes into mail and just sits there and keeps displaying the message loading in the mail message it opens.
If I do it from safari by going to the print menu and selecting from the PDF area of the print dialogue mail pdf it will open a mail message with the pdf showing as an attachment. Similar happens if I choose to send it as a web page. Does not seem to matter on either if I have it set to rich text or text in the mail same behaviour.
Any idea with what might be going on. thanks
Am using lated Mountain Lion 10.8.2

  • Mountain Lion - email size

Before mountain lion, I could see how big my email was.  The size was displayed on the lower right, I think.  I'm running mountain lion, now.  How do I turn that feature on?

Open Mail, click on the View menu, then Columns, then scroll down and select Size. Position it in the Mail window where you wish.

  • Re: Recommended Mountain Lion Partition Size

    Hi--
First time here, career Windows/DOS WH hacker, new to Mac/Mountain Lion.
I want to add Windows 7 HP to my MBA; have full complement of 8GB/512 GB.
I expect to be doing next to nothing on ML; will be turning this excellent HW into a Win box. (cringing noted)
Q1: How much (minimal) space should I leave in the OS X partition? (I need ALL I can get on the Win 7 side for prof photo editing).
Q2: Can you supply a link to the currently recommended procedure for adding Win 7 to a MBA (mid-2012)?
Thanks very much for any assistance you may provide.

  • Mountain Lion install size

    Hi all,
I have recently bought the rMBP and installed a fresh copy of ML on it. I also installed a fresh copy of ML on my last year MBP. After finishing the installation, ML seems to take around 24 GB of space on rMBP and around 12 GB on my MBP. Though I know that retina display doubles the graphics size but the whole installations of the same OS can't be twice as large on rMBP comapred to the normal MBP. These figures do not include the iPhoto, iMovie, and GarageBand applications, just the OS X installation. However, the strange thing is the following; after the installation when I check the Macintosh HD and measure the sizes of Application, System, Users, and Library Folders, it adds up to only around 12 GB on rMBP and  around 8 GB on MBP. I don't know where all the other HD space has gone? I know there is an internet recovery partition, but that doesn't take more than 2 GB on each machine. Can anyone explain why is it so and how can I receover this space on my HD?

  • Mountain lion has small text size in iWork when opening a file

when opening a new file in iwork using mountain lion, the text size is very very small.  how do you change this?
as resolution gets higher, text size gets smaller and we start to squint all the time.  not good for my eyes.

  • Does Mountain Lion Automatically Change Fonts, Size or Screen Resolution, Does Mountain Lion Automatically Change Fonts, Size or Screen Resolution

After upgrading from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion, the text in my nav bar and inside browsers (generally all around) seem to be smaller and possibly different (thinner) to what they were before.
I would like to revert back to their previous appearance, but after reading various threads and playing around, nothing seems to work. I'm not sure if the font has been changed, the size adjusted, or the screen/display resolution changed.
I tried suggestions like clearing font cache with Onyx and testing different Display resolutions, but didn't manage to get it back to how it was before the OS upgrade.
Appreciate if anyone can point me in the right direction please. TIA.

Could you post a screenshot showing your main menu bar and the Finder sidebar, please? This way we could compare the fonts used.
For me the system fonts look like this in Mt. Lion on a 17" MBP with the "Display" System Preferences set to "Best for Built-in Display":
I have the Finder's View option set to use 16pt fonts, but other than that is there no way to change the the fonts used without changing the Display resolution.
One more option you may want to check are the "Contrast" settings in the "Accessibilty" System Preferences. If you set the contrast to a very high value will the text appear to be very thin and hard to read.

  • Why can't I format text in Mountain Lion's Mail.app?

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion, Mail.app stubbornly refuses to allow me to bold or italicize my fonts.  I can underline, but I can't do any other text formatting options.
Very puzzling.  Can anyone shed any light on this problem, or if they've had it too?

You can only bold or italicize if you're using rich text.  Make sure you're sending messages in rich (as opposed to plain) text.
Here's an appropriate section from Mail's Help addressing this:
Use plain or rich text in messages
You can use plain text or rich text (HTML) formatting when you write messages. If you receive a message that’s hard to read, you can read it as plain text.
    HideIn messages you send
Plain text messages can be read by all recipients, regardless of the mail viewer used. Rich text messages may be unreadable for some recipients because of the formatting used.Set the format for all messages: Choose Mail > Preferences, click Composing, and then choose the format you want to use most often in your messages.
Change the format for your current message: Choose Format > Make Rich Text or Format > Make Plain Text before sending the message.
Set the format for replies: Select the “Use the same message format as the original message” checkbox in the Responding section.

  • How do you find and replace "within selected text" in a textedit document (version 1.8, mountain lion)

In the textedit version on Snow leopard it was possible to search and replace within a peice of selected text only i.e. not the entire file. This was a very useful feature because you could select a paragraph and replace all occurences of word1 with word2 within that paragraph only! This feature appears to be missing from the mountain lion version of textedit (version 1.8). Or can anyone tell me how to do it ... ?

Having 46 people view a post without replying is not unusual. Some people look at a question to see if it's something they'd like to know the answer to, and then come back  when it has eventually been answered.
I'm not sure if you need to escape forward slashes in Dreamweaver's Find and Replace dialog box, but I normally do because both JavaScript and PHP normally use forward slashes as delimiters to mark the beginning and end of the regex like this:
    var pattern = /[A-Z]{4}/; // JavaScript
    $pattern = '/[A-Z]{4}/';   // PHP
When a forward slash appears inside the regex, you need to escape it with a backslash to avoid confusion with the closing delimiter.
As you have worked out, a capturing group is created by wrapping part of the regex in parentheses.
If you want to match exactly 38 characters, you can use [\S\s]{38}. That includes spaces, newline characters, symbols, everything.
If you're trying to find everything between two tags, you can do this:
    (<\/tag_name>)([^<]+)
The closing tag is captured as $1 and everything up to the next opening tag is captured as $2.
Learning regular expressions is not easy. I don't claim to be an expert, but I enjoy the challenge of trying to solve them. If you're interested in regular expressions, there are several books published by O'Reilly. "Mastering Regular Expressions" is the ultimate authority, but it's a difficult read (not because it's badly written, but because of the complexity of the subject). "Regular Expressions Cookbook" is very good. There's also a new "Introducing Regular Expressions", but I haven't read it.

  • HT3669 I only have a HP printer and why I need to install a file for all the HP printers drivers 590MB??? if normally the size of my file should be 5MB.  some one could me help to avoid installation of 590MB for my new mountain lion software???

    Hi guys..!!
I would like to know if someone could help on this:
I just have a HP printer (HP Designjet 100) and for some reason I need to install a file for all the HP printers drivers in total 590MB to be able to use my printer in my mountain lion???
If normally the size of my files in the for previous software was more or less 5MB why now i need to install 590?
Some one could help me how to avoid installation of 590MB for my new mountain lion software???
    Thanks

If you go to http://support.apple.com/downloads and locate the HP Printer Drivers installer, you will find that it is 473.4 MB (for version 2.11). If you install this, it will install the full set of drivers for every model of HP printer that is supported by the drivers distributed through Apple. The disk space occupied once installed will probably be larger than the download, since the downloaded file is compressed.
On the other hand, if you have an HP printer connected and you use Software Update (or the Update tab in App Store), that should offer you a much smaller set of HP drivers, which are only applicable to your printer (and possibly a few similar ones). These updates are typically only tens of megabytes rather than hundreds of megabytes.
If Software Update doesn't offer you any HP drivers then it either thinks you have the latest drivers installed already, or the printer model is not supported by the drivers available from Apple.
This article lists all of the printer models for which Apple distributes the driver:

  • How do you get Mountain Lion Mail to show sent email size?

I upgraded to mountain lion I think a couple months ago so I don't remember exactly when I lost this feature, but in Snow Leopard for sure there was an option that when composing a new email, a little bar across the bottom of the email showed the size of your email so when you were adding attachments you could see the size your email was getting to be. I obviously haven't used that in a while because I ahvent' sent attachments in a long while, but I have recently started to do that again and tonight when I was adding files, there was no bar across the bottom of the email at all so I have no idea what size my email was. Even when I hit send and the progress bar in the bottom left of Mail ("Mail Activity") that use to show the file size right underneath the bar also now no longer shows the size so I have absolutely no idea how big the email I sent was.
Can anyone tell me how to get the option back to show the email size of the mail your composing in that little bar on the bottom of your email as well as the file size to display as you are sending in "Mail Actiivity" window? Thanks so much if anyone can help. Thank you!

this one is actually a really rare symptom of a flaky connection to the ipod on a Windows PC. there's more going on in terms of hardware on nanos and 5th gens than in the earlier models ... so if the connection is flaky to precisely the right/wrong degree, itunes will see the ipod, but misidentify it as an earlier version of ipod.
tracking down the cause of the flakiness can be tricky ... as you already know ...
just checking. have you tried connecting with a different (known-good) USB cable? does that seem to have any impact on the rate of occurence of the problem?

  • I installed Mountain Lion and now some times when I start my mac it look with a black screen and white text. I'm really worry about it, can somebody help me?

I installed Mountain Lion in my IMac and now, some times, when I start up my mac it looks with a black screen and white text. I'm really worry about it, can somebody help me?

Don't worry, this is probably just Verbose Mode. It's perfectly harmless.  If you're not specifically invoking it, than it's probably down to an unwanted setting in NVRAM.  See this article on resetting NVRAM if it continues to bother you.

  • Icon size in Mountain Lion

I just upgraded to Mountain Lion and it's great, but I used to be able to change the size of icons just by pinching on the trackpad and whatever the opposite of pinching is. I know I can't "right click" and bring up "View Options" and change it that way, but that's not nearly as convenient for as often as I use this tiny feature. It sounds silly, but I got really used to it for what I do for work and it's been annoying not being able to figure it out. Thanks for your help!

I guess you mean icons in the Finder icon view? If so, I know what you mean.  That was a pretty cool feature.
I believe the only other thing you can do now is to enable the status bar (command /, or from the View menu), and use the little slider that is there.
