Mountain Lion Trouble

I purchased a new 21.5" iMac in May (2.8 GHz Intel Core i7 with 4 GB of Ram) and just recently upgraded to Mountain Lion last week. Since updating I have noticed significant reduction on processor speed switching between desktops, Application handling and finder operation. The finder keeps losing the links to my server and is very slow on the scorlling. When I am openning a new application the active desktop it is assigned to takes longer to switch over. After installation I had to completely reinstall all my print drivers and have noticed a real slowdown waking up from sleep mode. I am running Creative Suite 6 and when I am in InDesign working on a file and have to switch over the network loses connection and I have to force quite InDesign. Additionally if I have Mac Mail and Outlook open at the same time I have tremendous slow down of each app when accessing my emails. I use Mac Mail for my personal email and Outlook for work. Across the board I am not entirely happy I updated to Mountain Lion. I am not running any real special apps and have not tweaked my machine from the default settings it originally shipped with.
I am curious if anyone else is having a lot of performance issues. I have ran repair disk permissions three times and reset the NVRAM. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

What you are dealing with is similar to what I am dealing with on my 27" i7 Quadcore iMac.  Lion it worked like a charm.  Once I upgraded to ML, all stability went out the window.  It is a driver issue with the OS and I am hoping it is addressed in 10.8.1
There have been other threads about this on the 21 and 27" iMacs.  I've tried all kinds of reinstalls and repairs including a clean install.  It is a fault with the OS and not the hardware.  Don't bother calling Apple as I did this and it didn't help.  It's going to have to be addressed in an update.  My current gen iMac that I listed above is so bad that I haven't even been able to use it and has remained powered off now for the last two weeks because something as trivial as media playback or cursor movment on screen isn't even able to be achieved without hiccups and skipping.
I tried a dual boot of a different OS, worked like a charm and no hiccups, so the issue is software related.
Sorry I don't have a fix, but Apple released a beta product to its customers and we are getting to be paying beta testers.  Just hang in there and be patient for the update to show it's avaialble.

  • Mountain Lion Trouble with my mini

I'm trying to install ML on my late 2009 mac mini, but during the install it said my drive had some corrupt files.  I ran a verify disk wich found the following:
    Incorrect number of thread records
    Incorrect number of extended attributes
The volume Mac HD was found corrupt and needs to be repaired
Error: This disk needs to be repaired. Click Repai Disk.
The only problem is the repair disk premissions and repair disk are grayed out?
    Any help would be appreciated.

I seem to be unable to access the recovery partition.  When I boot holding command R my mini automatically goes to an install window (white window, large watermark X, blue and white bar) then I'm presented with a thumbnail of my Mac HD and when I select it it says it is unable to install from that drive.  All I've done today in this attempt to install Mountain Lion is journal my boot drive so that I could install ML properly.
Does this make sense to you?
    Thanks for your help.

Boot Camp doesn't install the drivers. You have the drivers on a separate USB device if you followed directions. Once in Windows connect the USB drive with the driver software. It should startup automatically and install the drivers.
You don't even need to do that. As downloading the drivers from within Boot Camp Assistant can be unreliable, it is better to get the package directly from here:

Copy the .zip file to a USB flash drive or burn it to a DVD in OS X. Install Windows as normal, insert the flash drive/DVD in Windows, copy the .zip file to the hard drive, extract it, then run the setup executable.

  • Has anyone else had Mountain Lion 10.8.2 file copying trouble?

Has anyone had any trouble with file copying to external disks?
I have used a third party programme called "Synchronize! Pro X" (SyncPX) for many years with OS X up to 10.5.8 and it has never given any trouble at all.  In July I bought a new MacBook Pro 15", upgraded to 10.8.1 and bought the latest update for SyncPX (6.5.1).  This worked perfectly as far as I know until I downloaded the 10.8.2 Mountain Lion upgrade about a week ago.
    The symptoms are:
    1) When files are copied in backup mode (running as a single user, updating only files that have changed) to an external disk using Firewire, a high percentage of them do not have their file information copied correctly.  The "Last modified" date is often set to the time that the copy was made rather than being replaced with the  "Last modified" date from the source file.  Also, "further information" is sometimes not copied.
    2)  When files are copied in "Full bootable backup" mode (SyncPX runs "as root", copies files from ALL users and tries to set owner and group to be same as source file), the same symptoms as in (1) occur, but also SyncPX hangs right at the end of copying.  Sometimes it says "Updating dyld cache…", sometimes "Updating aliases…".  When this happens it is impossible to halt SyncPX except by forcing a quit, and then the external disc is not released so that it cannot be ejected except by forcing a shutdown.  In that case the external disk usually needs repairing.  The errors are always "incorrect number of extended attributes".
I have tried lots of things.
    a) Restart
    b) Reformatting the external disk and starting over.
    c) Reinstalling the system (after checking and repairing the main system disc), followed by (b)
    d) Turning off indexing for the external disc
    e) Repeating the test with a different external disk (to make sure it's not down to a faulty external disk)
    f) I have looked at Console logs but they do not indicate anything odd going on.
None of this makes any difference.  By contrast, a straight drag and drop copy from Finder works with no errors.
At this point you probably think the errors are SyncPX's fault.  But:
    i) The same version of SyncPX worked until 10.8.2 was released
ii) If the destination disk for a SyncPX backup is a network disk, everything works OK.
I started by taking the fault up with SyncPX's developer, Qdea.  One other user had noted a fault similar to (2).  Qdea maintain that there's nothing wrong with their code, and blame Apple's disc drivers.
On balance I think Qdea could be right, or at least Apple have changed some specifications but not told the developer world.
I haven't yet tried to take this up directly with Apple (through AppleCare) as I think they will probably wash their hands of it and blame the developer.  The point of this post is to see if anyone else has had a similar problem, perhaps with different software, and if there is anyone with sufficient experience to give advice on how to take this forward.  Is the case for an OS bug convincing or do others feel it's a fault with SyncPX alone?  If so how does one explain its perfect behaviour until 10.8.2?
What steps can I take to pin this down further?  All advice and comments will be gratefully received..

    And you would be right.

Dump Qdea for someone who knows how to write Mac software.
    1. Qdea displays the following logo: . This is a pre-MacOS X logo.
    2. Qdea displays the following review:
MacFixit had a good reputation, if you are old enough to remember when it used to exist.
    3. Qdea provides download links to SynchronizeX and version in French, German, and Japanese. Apparently they don't know that Mac software can be localized into a single executable.
I'm sure there are any number of similar utilities available, all of them cheaper than SynchronizeX's $99.99 price.

  • I upgraded to Mountain Lion. Now I have trouble waking it up from sleep mode. Why?

I upgraded to Mountain Lion on my MacBook. I am now having trouble waking it up from sleep mode. Does anyone know why or how to wake it up. I try tapping the space bar, trackpad & other keys. Sometimes I think it's never going to wake up.

I'm not certain but my new MBA 13...when in sleep mode comes back on from a black screen when I simply click on the left mouse button. Also, one time I did a SECURE EMPTY TRASH on files that totalled more than 1GB and it took so long that the fan kept increasing in speed so I pressed on the POWER button and the MBA shut...I was able to boot up with no problem. As a rule, I now only do secured erases for trash bin data totalling 500mb or less...anything above that gets a regular erase (dump).

    Try resetting the printer queues:

This update also clears your "computer name" in Syst Prefs > Sharing, and entering a computer name solves network print issues for many.

Is anyone else having trouble after thy downloaded Mountain lion x with iMessages mine isnt linking to my computer because it keeps saying i have a  registration error. Has anyone else had this problem or know how to fix it

    HI,
People who have had computer that has had the Logic/motherboard replaced during repair or refurbishment that has not has the Mac Serial Number Flashed to the board have found that iMessage in particular have not been able to "register".
A current purchase of Mountain Lion will tend to give you the latest version which as of Thursday (12 th Mar) is OS X 10.8.3
You can use System Information to find if the Serial Number is there as it appears under the Hardware section.
If it is missing you need to get to an Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider who can flash the info to the board.

After installing Mountain lion to my mid 2011 imac 21" I am having trouble with my internet connection.  Anyone else have to deal with this?

Are you on 10.8.2 as ypur profile says? If so, it's worth updating to 10.8.3 which was released last week.

Here's a link to some suggestions that helped some users with similar problems in Lion. May still be relevant to MLion. Also check the links within the article:

Also when I had wifi problems in the past, creating a new network location resolved it:

I've also seen threads where users with wifi problems have successfully solved them by changing the channel in the router's wifi settings.
