Mountain lion upgrade for new iMac

Hi All,
I was reading about how if you purchased an iMac after 6/11, that you're eligible for a free upgrade to Mountain Lion.
Customers must request their Up-to-Date upgrade within 30 days of purchasing their Mac computer. Customers who purchase a qualifying Mac between June 11, 2012 and the date when Mountain Lion is available in the Mac App Store will have 30 days from the OS X Mountain Lion release date to make a request.
However, I'm not seeing how to go about requesting the upgrade. Here's the url that talksa bout the free update.
http://www.apple.com/osx/uptodate/
Any ideas?

I would guess that a page would go live once ML is released.

You can share it with other Macs under your control (not your neighbor's).  You just need to be logged in under the buying AppleID for updates or to download again.
Use this thread to find a method of copying the ML download into a USB drive to make other installations easier: https://discussions.apple.com/message/16639520#16639520

  • Free Mountain Lion upgrade with new computer. How?

I was told at Apple store that I would receive a code to get a free upgrade for a new computer I purchased
on 8/15/12. It had Mac OS X 10.7.4  loaded and the free upgrade would be to Mountain Lion.
How does one get this code?

See Apple - Free OS X Mountain Lion upgrade Program.

I am new to Macs and need some guidance on how to progress with the upgrade.
    Thanks in advance.

if you look throught the questions also alot of people have got problems so in the next couple of days we should be able to get OS X Mountian Lion.

  • Mountain lion upgrade for free.

I can't wait to upgrade my iMac, I almost purchased the latest operating system, but after reading reviews learned that if you'd purchased your system since July of '11 it's free? Is this correct. I bought my 2010 model in Sept of 2011 and already recieved the Lion but I am really anticipating the many new changes. I just don't know how to get the latest upgrade for free! Do I need to get ahold of support during business hours? thanks, p

Well shoot... it appears like my Mac may not qualify for AIR PLAY.. why the heck NOT. isn't that one of the big reasons I bought both the apple tv device and the mac? and the iphone and the ipad?? well that would be TWO ipads and like 4 iphones.. plenty sad that the airplay may not work like I'd anticipated.. It won't prevent me from getting the update,  but if not for the reviewers at the app store showing plenty of disappointment.. (anger even).. I'd have missed this little on info too. :-(

  • Purchased Mountain Lion upgrade for Snow Leopard ... but ???

I paid my $19.99 and went through the process, but after my computer restarts the Download mountain Lion icon is still there, space on my hard drive is used and when I go to "About This Mac" it still shows that I'm running 10.6.8 and the Snow Leopard ico is still up on my desktop. I am computer clueless and that's why I run a Mac... now I'm baffled too... HELP!!!!

Another curious thing, to me anyway, is that the 4.46 GB has disappeared from my total amount of available GBs, yet I can not seem to locate where it is stored... perhaps that is a simple thing, but not to me. Thanks all.
In an earlier post you said that the installer file was in your Applications folder and that it was 4.46GB. Are you now saying that is no longer the case?
Yes.. mine is 4.46, but yes.
    In reply to this.
Do you still have this in your Applications folder? (Your copy will not have the green checkmark)
    And is it this size?

  • My time machine backup was created on iMac with Mountain Lion and my new iMac has Mavericks installed, will I be able to restore a backup from time machine to new imac and all applications work ok

time machine backup to new iMac

Yes, however it's always wise to update your apps to ensure you have the most up-to-date version. Use Setup Assistant to migrate your data, apps and settings to the new iMac, simply follow the on-screen directions. If the new machine has already arrived and you have already run Setup Assistant, connect the TM backup to the new machine and run Migration Assistant (a cousin of Setup Assistant) and follow the on-screen directions. You can find Migration Assistant in Applications - Utilities - Migrations Assistant or you can use the keyboard shortcut of Command + Spacebar and type "Migration Assistant".

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Select "/var/log/install.log" from the file list on the left. If you don't see that list, select

  • Mountain Lion upgrade hanging, Launchpad shows "waiting"

I'm a new Mac user. Am upgrading my OS X Lion to Mountain Lion on my new iMac. Got the redeem code, entered it, Launchpad opened and showed the download had started, using WiFi so progress was slow. Walked away. Came back 20 mins later, computer had slept, and there was no Wifi connection and no Mountain Lion download showing in LaunchPad. I rebooted my iMac and my modem and plugged my Mac in directly to modem (thinking LAN would be fasting that WiFi). Went to Purchases in Mac App Store and Mountain Lion showed "an error has occured" in red. Didn't say what error. I went to Mountain Lion App page, hit Download, and Launchpad opens again, with ML icon, but it just shows "waiting." No progress. Ummmm...help? How do I get Mountain Lion to install?

Not sure how to delete this comment. Un-marked it as a question. Went back to App Store Purchases and saw it was waiting for me to sign in and Click Resume. Downloading now. Nevermind.

  • New Code for Mountain Lion upgrade is wrong

New IMac Code sent by Apple to get Mountain Lion upgrade (free) did not work/not recognized on App Store page. What should I do?

I saw the contact info from another search on this Forum to ask Apple for help via e-mail. They responded pretty quickly (within 30 min).
I did not realize there was one password that was sent only to be used to open/reveal a second password (in a pdf in the first e-mail) that u actually use on th eApp store for the upgrade. Kind of confusing but I see what I did wrong now.
It did work and is now downloading.
    So, (hopefully) problem solved.
    Nice Forum!

Do you get this window when you hold down the Command+Option keys and launch iPhoto?
If not then you're not holding down both keys long enough.

  • I just installed the new mountain lion software on my iMac.  I was currently running Snow Leopard.  My problem is with my mouse.  Now when I scroll down the page it moves in the opposite direction. I checked system S.P. - Natural for scroll feature.

I just installed the new mountain lion software on my iMac.  I was currently running Snow Leopard.  My problem is with my mouse.  Now when I scroll down the page it moves in the opposite direction. In system preferences I tried checking and unchecking Natural for scroll feature. Movement from side to side works fine.  Has anyone experienced this problem?

I think this new scrolling behaviour was introduced with Lion. You do get used to it pretty quickly (well I did). Are you sure that deselecting Natural Scrolling in Mouse Prefs doesn't re-instate the previous behaviour, it does here.

  • I want to install Mountain Lion on my 2008 iMac. My current OS is Snow Leopard 10.8.6. I've heard ML may be too much for this iMac. I would appreciate anyone's advice.

I want to install Mountain Lion on my 2008 iMac. My current OS is Snow Leopard 10.8.6 and there is 4GB RAM. I've heard ML may be too much for this iMac and may slow it down.  Has anyone had any problems with this upgrade?

See > http://www.apple.com/osx/specs OS X Mountain Lion requires a Mid 2007 iMac or newer, and your iMac can run Mountain Lion without any problem. 4 GB of memory are enough for Mountain Lion, but if you are going to use heavier applications, maybe you will need more RAM
Before upgrading, you must make a Time Machine backup and/or a clone with Carbon Copy Cloner, and check that your applications are supported > http://www.roaringapps.com
