Mountain Lion won't sign into secure websites

A couple of days ago. I installed mountain lion on my Macbook Pro and everything went pretty smoothly.
However, when I try to open any websites that require logins such as Facebook, Twitter or my University's website, Safari will say that it can't open the page because the server is not responding. I have also tried using all of these sites using chrome.
The iTunes store or Apple Discussions won't even work!
So far I have tried the following steps to no avail:
     Reset Safari
     Disabled all plugins
Ensured Java SE 6 is installed and the applets are enabled
     Disabled the caches in Safari
Tried using different User Agents in both Chrome and Safari
     Restarted the computer several times
     Restarted the modem several times
Short of reinstalling Mountain Lion, I am not sure what else to try. Does any one have any ideas?

My iphone4 Safari won't let me sign into any websites (email, school, commercial).  What can I do to fix this?

Sorry just re-read your original post and realized that my answer doesn't address you problem:
"If the problem is that Safari won't display a login screen when started, try going to a different website than is displayed when you start Safari.  When I have this problem, I select another website from my bookmarks and am redirected to the login screen. It's strange, but it works."
So..., what is happening that it won't let you login?  Keyboard not popping up?  Website won't accept input?

  • Mountain Lion won't install on 10.7.4. Suggestion from Apple is to completely erase harddisk and install Leopard Snow Leopard Mountain Lion. Is there no other way to install Mountain Lion

Mountain Lion won't install on 10.7.4. Suggestion from Apple is to completely erase the harddisk and install Leopard > Snow Leopard > Mountain Lion.
Is there no other way to install Mountain Lion?

I tried and failed for several hours to install Mountain Lion, and was repeatedly getting the "Recovery System" cannot be created error.  I tried all the tricks: resizing the drive partition, booting from an external boot drive, all to no avail.  After reading other users struggling with the same issue, I had determined it to be a boot camp drive error.  However, I didn't want to have to erase and begin anew when I came upon a possible solution.  I had long ago renamed my boot camp drive with a "." (".windows" for me) in order to avoid having the partition show up on my desktop.  So, I boot into windows and renamed the c: drive without the "." ("windows"), and reboot into os x.  The install then went off without a hitch.  I hope this will be helpful for others struggling with this issue that may have renamed their boot camp drives in a similar manner.

this is a very frustrating problem
my iMessage on my macbook pro mountain lion won't work.
it keeps on saying that ive entered the wrong passcode.
i even have my firewall turned off
    plz help

    Ok...
So I bought my MacBook Pro second hand, and it came with no installation discs, but I got Mountain Lion and had it installed and decided to back it up to a disc in case of this scenario. I followed some instructions to make a bootable disc and used it to install a fresh copy of Mountain Lion back when I first got it.
My problem is that without the boot partition of my MacBook's hard drive it doesn't seem to want to boot the disc.
Since I didn't want to buy a disc and I don't have another MacBook or know anyone near me that does, I decided to download a hackintosh iso and use it along with my other laptop to install iPC 10.5.6....this installed successfully and my hopes were that my MacBook would be able to boot it, so I reinstalled my MacBook's hard drive and to my surprise it booted, although not normally. Since it is hackintosh it has some rewritten boot features so it's not a true OSX, but it is fully functional. Since I finally had OSX booted I figured I was in the clear and would be able to install Mountain Lion from this, but then I found out that you have to have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or later in order to install Mountain Lion.
Now I'm stuck with a hactintosh version of Lion and still no way to get back to Mountain Lion, is there anything I can do now that I have a functional OSX installation?

  • Cannot install Mountain Lion - my iPhoto won't quit and Mountain Lion won't let me do a force quit

I'm trying to upgrade to Mountain Lion but when it ries to quit all programmes to install my iPhoto won't quit as albums are being sync'd.  I try to stop and quit but it won't.  I then try to force a quit and Mountain Lion won't let it.  help!

if you don't mind interrupting the album sync, you can do a hard shutdown of the mac by pressing and holding the power button down for 10 seconds to make sure it's all the way off.
you can then do SMC reset which is described in the following article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
after doing this turn on the mac, click on the black apple then force quit and make sure all apps are closed
open app store and try again to install the mountain lion

  • Mountain Lion won't allow me to save photos from Mail directly to iPhoto (as you could in all other recent OSX).  Tried opening iPhoto and then click/drag each photo onto iPhoto icon on dock (as Help instructed) but the photo will not drag.  Suggestions?

Mountain Lion won't allow me to save photos from Mail directly to iPhoto (as you could in all other recent OSX).  Tried opening iPhoto and then click/drag each photo onto iPhoto icon on dock (as Help instructed) but the photo will not drag.  Suggestions?

I have real a lot of posts that say to click Command+Option while opening iPhoto and this will open the Photo Library Repair window, but... this is not happening.
Be sure you're holding the correct keys and that you're holding them long enough. Depress them before clicking on iPhoto and don't let go until the menu shows up.
If you don't want to lose those photos, make a back up now. Hopefully it's not too late.

My mountain lion won't download, says downloading but no progress

  • Right after upgrading to Mountain Lion on my MacBook Pro, some websites on Firefox won't load videos and some look like html (or something like that).

I've used Firefox for a while on my MacBook Pro (about 1.5 years old) and it's worked great. Should be fully updated too. Immediately after I upgraded my OS to Mountain Lion, some websites wouldn't load correctly (looked like html or something). Also some websites like YouTube show video fine, but then at least one other website doesn't show the video window at all, much less play it. Safari doesn't have that problem. Any ideas?

Did you try turning off power nap?

  • Mountain Lion won't install on mid-2010 iMac with Snow Leopard

Using the same Apple ID I used to purchase Mountain Lion on my Mac Pro, I signed into the Mac App Store on my iMac and downloaded Mountain Lion with no issues.  The iMac is running 10.6.8.
When I launch the ML installer and accept the terms, the install screen appears but the Install button is greyed out as is the icon for my hard disk, Macintosh HD.  Below the OS X Mountain Lion banner it says "OS X cannot be installed on "Macintosh HD".
Snow Leopard was installed on this machine as part of a family pack and I still have the DVD.  Nothing shady going on license-wise, is I guess what I'm saying here.
Anyway, no reason is given and no options are offered other than the Back button at that point.  And I can't seem to come up with anyone having a similar issue in all my "research".  So any help or insight would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Doug

I recommend backing up your system, and before going into the install, checking disk utility > verify disk > macintosh hd partition > to make sure the partition is okay.
If there is anything wrong with it, you will know here. Sounds like the disk may be locked or there is an issue w/the partition "macintosh hd"
also, maybe the partition was created incorrectly... check to see if the partion is MAC OS EXTENDED JOURNALED and not case-sensetive

  • Why can't I sign into any website using Safari on my iPhone?

No matter the website, it will not recognize my password into the site. I don't understand. I can't sign into my school site, check my bank account, sign into paypal. Why won't it let me? I've double, triple, quadruple checked my passwords and they're all correct because I sign on my Macbook with them, but why can't I sign in on my phone? I even downloaded Chrome and they alll worked on Chrome on my phone. But I don't want to use Chrome Help me please?

I already looked at that discussion but cookies are enabled, and I never use private browsing. When I try to sign in it says that the login failed. It doesn't matter what website I'm on (except apple for some reason I can sign in on apple.com) it doesn't recognize my password. I've typed in everything correctly a dozen times. But Safari had saved my passwords before this started happening so the reason I know the passwords are correct is because I saved them on safari and would just go to the website sign in and my password was saved so id log in and it would work. But now it doesn't. And I don't know why. It works on my computer so I know the passwords are right. But why can't the websites on safari on my iphone recognize my passwords?

  • Mountain lion won't accept dvd in slot

I've a brand new DVD drive hooked up to new Mac Mini via USB. There's a glimmer of life there: the drive sort of clears its throat when you plug it in. But I simply cannot push a DVD or CD all the way into the slot. I've tried cleaning it by inserting a DVD in wrapped in an E cloth but to no avail: it's impossible to push a disc in all the way. I've tried it on both my Macs and the drive just won't take the DVD. Is the drive faulty, or is this a Mountain Lion compatibility issue? It's most inconvenient as I need to load a piece of software from a DVD right now. Cheers.

Thanks for the advice Mike - tried it but no go. It's almost as if there's a physical blockage, but there's no reason there should be one.  Very strange indeed.
    Any other ideas? Anyone?

  • Mountain Lion won't open dmg's in installation packages

Since installing Mountain Lion, installation packages can't seem to open and mount dmg's automatically during installation.
Symptoms: Ran MacUpdate Desktop and ran Adobe Update.  Found a number of Mac apps that needed to be updated.  Files that were sent as ZIP archives opened and instlled fine.  Files that were sent as PKG or DMG failed to install (mounted image appeared for less than a second then disappeared from desktop and I received a 'failed to install' error message).  I went into the DOWNLOADS folder or into the appropriate LIBRARY folders and found the downloaded installation files and manually opened the DMG or PIMA files so the images were all mounted and then ran the installation program (or simply found the app and dragged it into the APPLICATIONS folder) and everything installed fine.
Is this something that is a known problem and, more importantly, has a fix?
    Sandy

You could try adjusting the Gatekeeper settings.
    System Preferences > Security & Privacy >
You may have to click the padlock and enter your admin password here. Once you do you should see the "Allow application downloaded from: - change the selection to - Anywhere"
You can also keep the settings as is and just Command and Click the DMG from Finder, should do the same trick.
    Hope that helps.
