Mountain Lion won't start with 32-bit kernal

I'm trying to update my Sony NEX-5 to version 5, and every time I click the installer, it says that it runs on a 32-bit kernal.
I tried starting up in 32 bit by holding the 3 and 2 keys, but this doesn't seem to do anything. I remember when I was on Snow Leopard, I could update my NEX-5 without any 32-bit startup necessary. Looking at some forums, even when people were on Snow Leopard they needed to startup in 32-bit...but I didn't.
Why doesn't it start up in 32-bit mode?
Why doesn't the application work on 64-bit? (Chrome is 32-bit...that still works on 64-bit)
Why has Sony even done this to us?
Running Mountain Lion 10.8.2 on the 2012 21.5" iMac.

Yes, the 64-bit kernel is not supported for downloading the firmware update. You may use your neighbors or friends computer to download the firmware. You can also send the Camera to our service center for getting the firmware installed:
Haha! Very funny Sony!
Well, I have a Canon 650D now anyway, and the update isn't a big deal. Just would be nice to update it.

  • Notes Application on Mountain Lion Won't Sync with Gmail

Within the past few weeks the new Notes application won't sync with my gmail account.  I used to be able to type a note in Notes, and it would appear under the label "notes" as an email type memo in Gmail.  All of the sudden this stopped working.  Same with the Mail app, I can't sync IMAP with my Gmail accounts.  This just started happening a few weeks ago.

  • 2012 Mac Pro / Mountain Lion won't boot with ATI 5770

2012 12 Core mac pro. I've got 2 GPUs installed:
    - Quadro 4000 for mac
    - ATI 5770
The Quadro is so loud and annoying that I'd like to unplug it for general use. Then plug it in for DaVinci or Premiere use.
Problem is when I unplug (power) from the Quadro and reboot, system gives me the Apple logo and then automatically restarts. Over and over. This is with Mountain Lion.
I tried booting to a drive with 10.6 and it booted up fine.
I keep searching for driver updates or something but everywhere says it's included in OSX?
Is this problem happening because there are 2 GPUs installed? Even though one is unplugged? Like PCI lane conflict or something?
    Alex

I think you will need to remove it entirely, or plug the power back in. It does not seem to allow your Mac to work with a Bus connection, but no aux power.

Might have a hardware issue that was caused by the minor liquid spill.
Take it to Apple to have them look at it.  I think they do a free diagnostics.  That way you can find out what's wrong with your MB.
Good luck....Hope you get it sorted out.

Boot Camp doesn't install the drivers. You have the drivers on a separate USB device if you followed directions. Once in Windows connect the USB drive with the driver software. It should startup automatically and install the drivers.
You don't even need to do that. As downloading the drivers from within Boot Camp Assistant can be unreliable, it is better to get the package directly from here:

Copy the .zip file to a USB flash drive or burn it to a DVD in OS X. Install Windows as normal, insert the flash drive/DVD in Windows, copy the .zip file to the hard drive, extract it, then run the setup executable.

  • Mountain Lion won't install on 10.7.4. Suggestion from Apple is to completely erase harddisk and install Leopard Snow Leopard Mountain Lion. Is there no other way to install Mountain Lion

Mountain Lion won't install on 10.7.4. Suggestion from Apple is to completely erase the harddisk and install Leopard > Snow Leopard > Mountain Lion.
Is there no other way to install Mountain Lion?

I tried and failed for several hours to install Mountain Lion, and was repeatedly getting the "Recovery System" cannot be created error.  I tried all the tricks: resizing the drive partition, booting from an external boot drive, all to no avail.  After reading other users struggling with the same issue, I had determined it to be a boot camp drive error.  However, I didn't want to have to erase and begin anew when I came upon a possible solution.  I had long ago renamed my boot camp drive with a "." (".windows" for me) in order to avoid having the partition show up on my desktop.  So, I boot into windows and renamed the c: drive without the "." ("windows"), and reboot into os x.  The install then went off without a hitch.  I hope this will be helpful for others struggling with this issue that may have renamed their boot camp drives in a similar manner.

    Thanks.

If the OP has this much RAM in their iMac, certain this Mac can run Mountain Lion.
The reason it might not be installing is that 15 GBs of RAM.
Your iMac should have (4) equal sized, 4 GB sticks of RAM for a total of 16 GBs.l
If your iMac is only reporting that there is only 15 GBs of RAM, you have a RAM stick that is either not seated in its slot properly or is defective/going bad.
This maybe the reason that it won't download it.
Also could be you are running out of free space on your HD.
You need, at least 15-20 % or greater free space left on your HD.

  • Mountain Lion is not compatible with this computer

When will I be able to upgrade my Mac Pro to Mountain Lion:
    2 x 3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon,  Memory 13gb 667 MHz DR2 FB-DIMM, 64GB free disk (system), 1TB free other disks, computer age mid 2007, Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5.
As of 11/28/12:  Mountain Lion is not compatible with this computer.

I installed Windows 8 Pro on a PC, quickly shutdown and walked it over to my Mac Pro 1,1.
5365s are 8-core and Geekbench in the 8000 pts range.
An apple 2010 refurbished is $1800 also, old 4-core 2.8 but can upgrade easily to W3680 6-core 3.33
I agree running native beats running VM
The issue with getting Windows 64-bit onto 32-bit firmware is just the install phase but a real pain. 64-bit Windows requires, if the system is EFI based. I do have one PC that does use UEFI and Windows 8, another that does not. Both are 2008-9 motherboards (Intel which supports UEFI, and Gigabyte which did not with X58). Apple of course last updated our EFI 1,1 and 2,1 back in 2007. Before UEFI was done standardized etc.

my iMessage on my macbook pro mountain lion won't work.
it keeps on saying that ive entered the wrong passcode.
i even have my firewall turned off
    plz help

    Ok...
So I bought my MacBook Pro second hand, and it came with no installation discs, but I got Mountain Lion and had it installed and decided to back it up to a disc in case of this scenario. I followed some instructions to make a bootable disc and used it to install a fresh copy of Mountain Lion back when I first got it.
My problem is that without the boot partition of my MacBook's hard drive it doesn't seem to want to boot the disc.
Since I didn't want to buy a disc and I don't have another MacBook or know anyone near me that does, I decided to download a hackintosh iso and use it along with my other laptop to install iPC 10.5.6....this installed successfully and my hopes were that my MacBook would be able to boot it, so I reinstalled my MacBook's hard drive and to my surprise it booted, although not normally. Since it is hackintosh it has some rewritten boot features so it's not a true OSX, but it is fully functional. Since I finally had OSX booted I figured I was in the clear and would be able to install Mountain Lion from this, but then I found out that you have to have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or later in order to install Mountain Lion.
Now I'm stuck with a hactintosh version of Lion and still no way to get back to Mountain Lion, is there anything I can do now that I have a functional OSX installation?

  • Downloading App store purchased Mountain Lion installer onto Mac with preinstalled OS X

I need to reinstall Mountain Lion on my Mac Book Pro. I purchased ML on the app store but need to create a bootable USB key. The only Mac I have available to do this is my girlfriend's new MacBook Air.  This has a preinstalled version of Mountain Lion on it already. I know that I cannot re-use her preinstalled version of ML on my MBP but I would like to use her notebook to download the installer from my app store account.  When I try to do this, however, I get an error message saying that Mountain Lion is not compatible with her computer.  There appears to be no way to access a legitimately purchased app store version of ML on a computer where another version is pre-installed.  Could this really be the case?  All troubleshooting searches come up with people trying to illegally re-use the preinstalled OS on another computer---this is not what I am trying to do! Again, I want to access my paid in full app store purchase on a preinstalled device in order to put it back on my MBP. Help!

The Mid 2013 MacBook Air comes with a special 10.8.4 version, that makes impossible the process to download the common 10.8.4 from the App Store. You won't have this problem when Apple releases OS X 10.8.5.
You can't download 10.8.4 from the MacBook Air if you are going to install it in the MacBook Pro. You have to connect it to Internet and reinstall OS X using OS X Recovery > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718

  • Mountain Lion Won't Install on Mac Mini (Late 2014)

My relatively new Mac Mini (Late 2014) is running Yosemite.
I have purchased Mountain Lion in order to run a favoured version of sound editing software which is not compatible with either Yosemite or Mavericks.
Attempts to download my purchased Mountain Lion from the App Store result in the following message "We could not complete your purchase. OSX Mountain Lion is not compatible with this computer".
The 'Learn More' button takes me to the support article which states that Mountain Lion requires hardware of Mac Mini (Early 2009 or newer).
In terms of software, it requires that Lion is already installed.
My query is do I need to purchase Lion and install it before I can install Mountain Lion?
My concern with this is that Lion itself requires Snow Leopard itself installed on the machine!
    Cheers,
    Lou.

That is correct. Versions of OSX prior to Yosemite do not have the divers to support the 2104 Mac Mini.
You may be able to run ML as a virtual machine (VM) using a VT app like the free VirualBox and paid parallels.
However, you may not be able to get a copy of ML to install unless yo have another Mac that allows you to download the installer.

Open the Mac App Store on the other Mac and in the Quick Links sign into your account. See if the Mountain Lion purchase is among hidden apps in the iCloud area of your account info.
