Mountain Lion wont allow me to save anything to my USB?

Hi Guys,
How can I fix the issue with not being able to save to a external USB?
I can plug in and view items but cant save to them..
Help Please

If the USB drive is formatted as NTFS, then no, you can't write to it. MacFuse was the old support item for NTFS-3g. It no longer works with Mountain Lion, or is needed by the current version of NTFS-3g. There is also no longer a free version.
Your choices are Tuxera's NTFS-3G for $31, or Paragon NTFS for $20.
It's either that, or reformat the drive as FAT32 (MS-DOS).

All he needs is the recovery disc assistant. It's a free download.

  • Mac OS Mountain Lion wont start

Mac OS Mountain Lion wont start. It's just stuck on white screen with spinning gear, once the white screen goes, I get a kernel panic...I suspect this issue has been caused by the recently installed xcode, it was the last program I installed this morning

Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
And, remove XCode. If it's needed then be sure you install the current release version for Mountain Lion.

  • Mountain Lion Mail cant print or save multiple messages???

The question is not a question because I already know.....
Mountain Lion Mail obviously cant print or save multiple messages !
There are multiple threads about that, but I couldnt find any solution :
I want to export a full folder of mails (emlx) to single PDFs
and I want to have the Images displayed ! (Lion Mail could do that!)
saving as RTF just shows a link and not the image if it is just a linked image
and saving multiple mails doesnt work anyway. same for printing (and save as pdf)
did anybody run into this... maybe find another solution?
automator doesnt really help on this, too, and i dind find any tool.
word opens emlx files, but the image is displayed just as a 1x1cm thumb
    that is really annoying !

I restarted the iMac and now it seems to allow this operation - so I consider this problem resolved for now.

  • In Mountain lion, do i have to save Adobe files to the cloud?

    Hi there,
at this stage i'm not comfortable having my docs, of any sort, be saved to the cloud - whether that be Apple's cloud or Adobe's. I just want to keep them in the machine and saved in the finder - nowhere else. Is that possible with Mountain Lion? Or do i HAVE to save them to one cloud or another.
    Thank you for your time,
    Richard

thanks very much for your reply Kurt, that news is quite a relief. As you can probably tell, i'm about to re-build my system from scratch, reformatting my drive. I'm currently at the point of researching do's and don'ts and i should add i very much liked your article on font management!
    Best wishes, Richard

  • Mac won't allow me to save anything to external HD.

I have an early 2011 MacBooc Pro and I have a brand new never used 500GB HP portable Hard drive, whenever I attempt to save anything or transfer anything from the HD it will not allow me?
    Something about permissions...
I know its vague I'm completely idiotic when it comes to computers.
    Any help would be appreciated.

maybe it's because your Hard drive format. is it NTFS? If it is in NTFS format, then your macbook pro won't allow you to write data on your HDD, it's only allow you to copy data from your HDD into your macbook pro's drive.
I suggest that you buy software Paragon NTFS for your mac, or you can simply re-format your HDD into exFAT, because mac osx is now fully support exFAT format. To do this, you can simply format it using windows based PC or using Disk utility in your macbook. hope it helps!

  • Mountain lion wont update on my iPad?

Wanting to upgrade from 10.6 on my iPad

You can not put Mountain Lion on your iPad.  Mountain Lion is a Mac OS.  The OS on iPad is iOS.  And as long as you have iPad 2 or newer, the highest version you can have on iPad is 7.0.2.  If you have Origianl iPad, the last version you can have is 5.1.1.  To see what version OS you running go to:
    Settings > General > About > Version

  • Updating to Mountain Lion-- wont install completely.

I've bought OS X Mountain Lion from the app store recently and attempted to install it a few times. It always takes me through the "agree to terms" stage, then goes to the install screen. It begins to countdown the minutes until complete, and note that it will restart when finished. On my first million attempts, it would just barely make it 3/4ths of the way and then restart without completing the installation. I tried countless times with the same result.
I then looked into the Macintosh folder on my computer and found the file for Mountain lion and blindly clicked around until I found a file that lead me back to installation. This time, the installation did "complete" according to the blue status bar. But my computer definitely was not updated,( still running OS X Lion). At some point while trying to download the system told me the file had been "tampered" with (probably by me) and needed to be deleted and reinstalled -- which I did. Even when I downloaded again, it would not completely install itself. I don't know what to do to get it to work! I tried calling technical support, and they wanted me to pay for their help, after the apple product I PAID for doesn't work properly... what a system
Also, I am not sure if this is related, but my safari has been crashing lately. It does not crash with every website, only certain ones (which have always worked before). The website it has been crashing the most with is a university related website, but most recently it crashed when I tried to look on groupon.com
I do not know if these are related, but it never did that before I tried this whole OS X Mountain Lion foolishness.
    PLEASE HELP!

Should I just give up on this whole OS X Mountain Lion update? After reading other posts, I'm scared I will permanently ruin my mac. I'd prefer to lose only $20 than $1400. I would like to fix this safari problem, however.

  • Alerts in delegate iCal 6.0 in Mountain Lion not allowing to set default

    I'm using iCal 6.0 with OSX 10.8.2
When syncing iCal with my Google calendars all is well. However, when I add an event in any one of the delegate calendars in switches the default alert from "None" to "9 a.m. the day before" etc.
I have logged into my calendar online and all the calendars have NO alerts set. At all.
I do not have this issue on my iPad or iPhone. Only on my Macbook Pro running Mountain Lion as stated above.
I’ve called support, no help there so far.
I’ve done everything except uninstall iCal itself.
    Any ideas?

Found this on another discussion. So far it's seems to solve issue:

ok got it, had to be from my ipad settings, go to settings, go to mail, contacts, calendars, and then scroll down to calendar settings and tick off new invitation alerts as well as shared calendar alerts. cheers
NOTE: Make sure this is done on all devices. I had it off on my iPad but on on my iPhone. Turned them all off seemd to work so far.

  • HT1386 my OS X Mountain Lion wont install

    evening
I have purchested the OS X Mountain Lion for my macbook pro.
Everytime i go to download it, its says the following:
The product distribution file could not be verifield. It may be damaged or not signed?
    please help

Installing the OS X Lion Update 10.7.5 (Client Combo) will reinstall the App Store for you which may help the product distribution error.
Restart your Mac after the combo is installled. It's ok to do this even though your Mac is already running v10.7.5.

  • Mountain Lion wont install on macbook. "This disk cannot be used to start up your computer"

Basically, when I try to install the mountain lion update onto my Snow Leapard OS, I get the above message. Something must be wrong with my hd configuration.
I think the problem was caused when I tried to install linux on a partition before this and failed miserably time after time; I think the problem was that reFIT wasn't recognizing the proper partitions to boot into. Anyway, I also noticed that even after deleting the defunct linux partitions using Disk Utility, the linux drives still showed up in the reFit startup menu. Did I screw up my HD? Is that what is preventing me from installing Mountain Lion? If so, how can I fix it?
    Thanks.

Go to System Preferences > Startup Disk and press Macintosh HD. Open > http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3926

  • Adobe reader wont allow pdf to save as doc

I have windows 8 and Adobe Reader. I don't use the touchscreen as it allows because my laptop is not touchscreen capable. I have been trying for 2 hours to convert a PDF. file to a DOC. so that I can fill out the form in Microsoft Word. When I pull up the PDF in Adobe, I click the "save as" option and it takes me to the save section. The only options I have in the save screen is where I want to save the file, the description (file name), File type, which the only option is PDF. No other file type is available; and finally, the save option. I am desperately trying to change the file type to a DOC and have hit a dead end. I have tried changing it by renaming and adding (doc.) at the end to change the format, tried opening word and attempting to open the file that way but the characters are wrong, it looks like a bunch of jumbled characters instead of the PDF, and finally, opened "reader" and attempted to copy/paste in word with the same results as adobe, and the save as function wont let me change it to a doc as well. I'm totally stuck and I need to change this PDF to a Word Document but I'm having the worst time doing this! Does anyone know a way to change a PDF file to a document some other way than trying to pull it up in Word, changing it in Adobe or trying to rename the file? I desperately need help!

The free Reader has never been able to convert PDF files to any other format, and most probably never will. You can try using the free 30 day trial of Acrobat to attempt a conversion. And if I may say so, if someone created a form in PDF format, and expects it to be filled and submitted in PDF format, I don't think s/he will be happy receiving it in Word format.
