Mounting dvd image

hi,
I have this dvd image I'd like to loop mount. Unfortunately all I get is this error:
[root] $ mount -t iso9660 -o loop DISC1.ISO files/
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/loop0,
or too many mounted file systems
(could this be the IDE device where you in fact use
ide-scsi so that sr0 or sda or so is needed?)
[root] $
To me it seems the command is correct. how to fix this?

Thanks, but I forgot to tell that udf doesn't work either.. same error with both:
[root] $ mount -t udf -o loop DISC1.ISO files/
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/loop0,
or too many mounted file systems

  • Mounted DVD image region different to inserted DVD region

    Hello,
My DVD is set to 'Region 4' to play Australian DVD's. I created an image of a DVD using the 'DVD/CD Master' image format in order to make a backup DVD.
Issue: When I open it in the standard DVD player software, I'm prompted to change FROM 'Region 1' (which I never chose.) If I re-insert the DVD, it plays without a hitch.
I don't want to start changing regions unless I have to. Can anyone make an informative suggestion?
    Thanks,
    Carlo

What Király has said is correct so you shouldn't get this message. My guess is that the software you used for creating the backup automatically designated it as region 1 (USA). Why you have to re-insert it to get it to play I don't know.
One proviso to what we've said is that if you bought your Mac overseas the Australian legislation won't apply and you would be caught in the zone change limitations.

  • [Solved-sortof] Mounting dvd drive /dev/hdc

My dvd drive is not mounting for some reason, I thought maybe I just needed to restart and that it would mount again but no luck, this is what I get:
    mount /dev/hdc /test
    mount: no medium found
I put the same DvD in my cdrom/dvd drive and it mounts so i know it's not the dvd. I thought well, this is a dell shipped dvd drive so maybe it died, I'll give it a test. I slap the dvd in the drive, since it's the master cd drive it shoudl load a cd at bootup and it does, loads Fedora dvd image easily. I did upgrade something this morning, mostly gnome stuff, so I am thinking it's one of the packages assuming I don't have /dev/hdc on my computer. Is there a way to see what's going on?
    Quick Edit
I did a quick edit to see what exactly was going on, I am far from a linux pro, but I do have some common sense. I took gdm / hal off my daemons list and rebooted. Now from command linue I logged into root and tried to mount the drive /dev/hdc and it worked perfectly flawless, no errors. So I am guessing this has to do with a hal problems that was caused during an update. Any further help would be much appreciated though because I don't know where to go from here.
    Edit again
I solved my little "issue" apparently it was just the dvd I was trying, for some odd reason my dvd drive was refusing to auto-load the dvd movie. Yes I burned a dvd movie, I do own the original copy, I just burn a backup incase of dmg / loss. The original dvd loads fine with no mounting issues. The dvd I burned works in a dvd player, and on my secondary dvd/rw drive, I don't like watching movies on the dvd/rw drive though because of the fact that it's read capabilities is much slower. I am still puzzled on why my dvd drive doesn't like to mount / read it correctly.

    mzneverdies wrote:
not sure, but in order to mount cds/dvds, I think you must use the -o loop flag
    sudo mount -t iso9660 -o loop /dev/cdrom /media/cdrom
The loop flag is for mounting ISOs.

  • DVD image question

Hey this might be a question that should be posted within some other category but I wasnt sure if a pertucar ilife application has the capability.
I have a mini dvd that has 2 sides and i would like to combine it into one single layer dvd. The total for the mini dvd is under 4 gigs.
I wanted to know what program would allow me to do something like this. I tried toast 9 thinking they have the multiple dvd image functionality but that seems to be if 1 was windows and another was a mac image then it can combine it into 1 that both can read or something like that.
That isnt what i am looking for. I have a 2 sided mini dvd that i would like to combine into 1 single regular dvd. Could I use iDVD or would I have to use something else.
Also toast seems to make dvd images with a .toast extension that any other program doesnt recognize (other then taost).
    Help would be greatly appreciated.

Here's how to do it with Toast. What you'll get is one DVD with two titles, but you can tell Toast to continuously play the titles so there won't be any break between them.
    1. Insert the mini DVD disc and choose DVD with the top button of the Toast Media Browser.
    2. When something appears in the browser window drag it to the Toast's Video window with DVD video selected as the format. You'll see a progress bar as Toast extracts the MPEG video files from the mini DVD.
    3. When that is done turn the mini disc over and repeat steps 1 and 2.
    4. Now that you have the content of the mini disc in the Toast window, edit the descriptions, scroll the thumbnail to a desired image and choose the menu style you want.
    5. Choose Save as Disc Image if you want to preview how it looks in DVD Player before burning to DVD. You mount the disc image by control-clicking on it and choosing Mount It.
I have changed the .toast extension on video DVD disc images to .iso and they work fine with my LaCie Silverscreen that can automatically mount and play .iso images.

  • Remote Install of OEL from DVD image?

I have a linux server that has CentOS 5.3 64 bit installed. I do not have physical access to it. I can't mount a DVD.
But I do have access to ssh, yum and can install anything on it.
Can I download the Oracle Enterprise Linux 64 bit DVD image from OUL Network and install from the image without creating a DVD and putting it in the drive?
    Is there a simple solution?
    Thanks
    SG

Please visit the http://linux.oracle.com site and follow the link to download a new "up2date" RPM package in the "Switching From Red Hat Network" link.
Install it on your server and:
    # /usr/sbin/up2dateand take a nap.
If you do not have a ULN subscription, you can do a network-based install using the:
boot: linux askmethodtechnique; Google for "linux askmethod" for details. There are also detailed steps in the Red Hat installation guide over at http://www.redhat.com if you prefer.

  • Removing a DVD Image from a drive?

    Hello everyone!
Recently I wanted to wipe my MacBook Pro, and do a clean install of Snow Leopard. However doing so proved difficult, because my DVD drive recently gave out and stopped ejecting disks (Had to open her up and take out the drive completely). Anyways, in order to do a clean install, I had to create an image of my Install DVD On an external hard drive, and wipe the computer in target disk mode from another mac.
The clean install worked perfectly, although now my external Hard Drive is stuck with the DVD Image of the snow leopard install disk on it. I would just wipe the drive, however it has about 450 GB worth of data on it (When I put the Install DVD image on the drive I chose not to erase the current data) and I would just get another hard drive to back up my data and reformat the drive, but currently I do not have another drive to transfer the files to.
I would just delete the Snow Leopard install disk files, but everytime I plug in the hard drive, it pops up like an install disk and its quite annoying. In the mean time the hard drive still works perfectly, its just annoying always having to close the "Install OS X Snow Leopard" window each time I plug in the drive. (Note: If I remove the install disk files from the drive, the Hard drive still pops up like an install disk when its plugged in)
So my question is this, (I know I'm finally getting to my point haha) is there any way I can remove the "Install Disk" image from my hard drive without having to wipe the entire drive? Or am I just going to have to get another hard drive to back up all my data and reformat it? Thanks for your help guys, looking forward to your replies.
    Regards,

    Thanks for your reply Neville.
I am currently able to read and write the files on the drive, and I am able to delete the Mac OS X install files. However even after I do so, whenever I plug in my external hard drive, it always pops up like a mounted .DMG file, instead of popping up like a hard drive.
Also by default I use the "List" view in the finder. But whenever I access the drive, it shows the files in "Icon" view since I added the Mac OS X install disk image to the drive =(.

  • Image to have mounted .ISO image?

I'd like to use a mounted ISO image (a live image on DVD). I was able to create the VBox image, of course, and if I created a disk it was okay to import, but after import the ISO is no longer mounted. Where does the template live? Is it something I can edit the file on to re-add the ISO before cloning?

This use case has not been covered with VDI 3. We expect more or less to import a ready to go image, that can be directly used as desktop or replicated as template. The mounting of the DVD will disappear after import. Something to work on for a later release.

  • Mount loop image with name

Peace be upon you all !
when mounting an image (*.iso for example) by this command :
    mount -o loop image.iso
    or
    mount -o loop image.iso /mount_point/
in dolphin file manager in the corner of Devices the name of the mounted image is "Loop Device"
WHAT I NEED is that the name showed there becomes the name of the image

    We are here.
    Please don't bump.
I had seen your thread and had no idea how to do what you are trying to do.  Apparently, others were in the same boat.  These are active forums, so I know that if someone had an answer, or a suggestion, they would have chimed in.  Perhaps if you would tell us what more you have learned, why you think you can do this, have you seen it on other distributions or environments, or is it just a good idea?
    thanks man ...
actually i didn't see this in any other dist but in Windows (something like daemon tools) ,actually i wanted to use "Tell me More " and it needs the DVD to be mounted , this can be normal if it's alone but when you have several ISOs mounted it'll be so hard to choose since the in the file manager "dolphin" is the same (mean: "Loop Device")

  • Does Time Machine still ignore mounted disk images? Specifically, encrypted sparse bundle disk images?

My Time Machine backs up to Time Capsule which cannot be encrypted. I also have confidential data in an encrypted sparse bundle disk image in my home folder. When TM backs up and the encrypted sparse bundle disk image is mounted and I'm accessing the data, does TM back up the data "in the clear" decrypted form or does it exclude the disk image because it's mounted? I've done a little research, but there's conflicting information. Not sure what happens in Lion now...

Time Machine does not backup mounted disk images! The encrypted sparse bundle disk image was mounted, I updated a doc and did a TM backup - the file was not listed in the TM repository and the doc remained unchanged in the encrypted sparse bundle disk image on TM. Then I ejected the disk image and did a TM backup - the updated doc was backed up in the encrypted sparse bundle disk image! Thank you!

  • How to make iMovie 09 recognize a mounted disk image?

I'm trying to store video clips in a disk image (Mac OS Extended - Journaled, single Apple Partition Map). Previously in iMovie 08 all I had to do was mount the image, start iMovie and it would recognize it as an additional drive. Then I could drag events to it and store them there. In 09 this does not work. It sees the image but has the yellow triangle/exclamation point in it. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to make it recognize the image! I've tried all variations in disk utility to create the image to no avail. Is iMovie 09 looking for a certain file on the disk image to recognize it? Maybe something in the DS_Store file or the .localized? Very frustrating.
    Hoping someone can help. Thanks.

    Try the following:
Mount the disk image so that there is a disk icon on the Desktop, and then launch Terminal (in /Applications/Utilities).  Copy-paste the following line into the Terminal window, and then type a single space. Do not type <Return> yet:
    sudo mdutil -i on
After typing the single space, drag the mounted disk image icon from the Desktop into the Terminal window, click inside the Terminal window, and then type <Return>.  Enter your admin password at the prompt (it will not echo on the screen),  and again type <Return>.
Hopefully that will enable Spotlght indexing on the mounted image. It might take some time to complete depending on the contents.
The result for this for me, three times, was "Indexing disabled."

  • General Installation/ Mounted disk images

I am a Mac virgin, having only had my new iMac for 2 weeks. I have recently downloaded/installed some apps (google earth for instance) and notice that if I eject the mounted disk image that the app will no longer run. I can not "hide" the mounted disk in the HD either. It just sits there on my desktop.
Is there no way to rid my desktop of all this clutter? If anything, is there anyway to hide the icons on my desktop like you could on...<ughhh> XP <ughhh>?
    Thanks for your help.

What you need to do is quit Google Earth, open the Applications folder (with Finder in front, click the "Go" menu then "Applications") and drag the application into the Applications folder. After it copies, eject the installer diskimage and you can delete it.
Some installers run a program that installs the app and its support files, and others (like Google Earth) just open the diskimage package and show you the application icon, which makes it all to easy to just doubleclick to run. Since diskimages cannot be ejected while files are open, things get messy real fast.
It's a common problem with even experienced Mac users that they continue to run several apps from the diskimage or from their desktop. Hopefully the Leopard version will have this problem fixed.

I just updated to Tiger 10.4.11/combo update. I used the stand alone installer (because Software Update since I updated to 10.4.10delta). I repaired permissions before and after the update. Now I can't mount disk images I always get the message "Mount Failed".This occured when downloading and trying to open an existing disk image.I ran fsck, even tried AppleJack all to no avail.I know this problem wasn't there before the update as I downloaded the update and a couple of small utilities and all was well with the world (they all mounted properly). I was doing fine with OSX 10.4.9 but just had to upgrade! Can someone PLEASE HELP ME? I'M grateful for any suggestions and the forums have been good to me in the past.

Some part of the OS is messed up... I've heard that if you Deltas you must stick with those, if you do Combos you must stick with those, no idea if it's true, as I always use the bigger Combo Updates.
Most likely the best solution for both of you is an Archive & Install...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
    Then apply...
The combo update for PowerPC-based Macs...
