Mounting failed

Dear all,
For a while it has been impossible for me to innstal non-Apple software (like the new version of Skype and Plaxo) on my Mac. Downloading the files work fine, but each time the download is finished I get the same message: Mounting Failed
Does anyone know how to solve the problem?
Thanks a mil.
Kristian

Hey i did have this problem before and nobody answer me. At last i discovered a tools in the utilities folder that need to be install. The tools is relates to the mounted files. Try to find it in the utilities folder and there is icon and double click it then it will store in your system preference pane. Good luck! I resolved my problem though.

  • Can't get around "mount failed" - "on error" won't do it - help appreciated

    Hi
I'm using this syntax to mount a volume, and it works well if the volume can in fact be mounted:
    try
    mount volume "afp://username:[email protected]/MyDir"
    on error
    display dialog "blah blah"
    end try
BUT, if the volume can't be mounted because the directory specified is incorrect, I a dialog saying "Mount Failed" opens with the only option being 'OK'. Under some other mount failure circumstances this dialog doesn't appear, and the script does eventually time out and disappear all by itself. But if this dialog appears, I have no option other than to manually press OK. It stays open forever. This dialog appears before the script passes the error to the display dialog part, so it prevents the "on error" part of the script from running. This is the only example I know of where 'on error' fails to let the scripter move on and manage the error.
What I would really like to do is to get the 'on error' functionality to actually work properly, because I can determine the PID of the process using Terminal and could then kill it using a shell script if , BUT none of this is possible because the script never gets to the 'on error' state because a real human must press the dialog's OK. I can't seem to use system events to send anything to it because the whole applescript just hangs at this point until the OK is checked.
Does anyone know a workaround? I've tried using a with timeout step around the whole thing but also won't work.
Thanks for any advice you could give me.
    Chris.

I'm having the same trouble, but for different reasons. I was trying to determine a method for examining all the mounted volumes on my desktop and then detecting which mounted volume came from which network server. There doesn't seem to be any way to determine this via any filesystem metadata or anything. The only solution that I could think of was to build an afp url for each server/volume combination for any given mounted volume I wanted to test and then try mount volume on each url (thinking that the on error handler would trap the errors and then I could branch accordingly). Doesn't work. It's interesting that if you try mount volume afp://validerserver/badvolume, you get the mount failed error before your on error handler kicks in. If you try mount volume afp://badserver/validvolume, the on error handler fields the resulting -35 error. If you try mount volume afp://emptystring, you get a connection failed dialog before the on error handler again. Really annoying.
I filed a bug on this.

now when i log in my account as admin and download something > then Disk copier helper opens > then installation >> and finally Message comes .. Mounting Failed ( error 95 ).
this happened when i tried to download and install dmg file from internt
it also says that there is no file folder to handle this file
How can i fix mounting problem on my User Account as Admin.
    thanks

I'm on the same boat. I called Apple Support. They made me clean cache, create a new user, yada yada yada. Nothing helped. Last resort was to re-install OSX Snow 10.6.2
I did so, doing an ERASE then moving files/programs back from Time Machine. Right after OS was just installed, I was able to download anything. After I did an upgrade to the latest combo patch to 10.6.2 I was back in "no download land"
I have Google Chrome (no dice), FireFox (no dice)....
Help! I don't want to have to re-install everything again!

  • "Mounting Failed" - downloaded driver for HP deskjet 6980

I downloaded the printer driver for my HP deskjet 6980 and when it finished downloading it said that mounting failed. Why would this be?

    Hi Kat,
Either a RAM/Hardware issue, Disk needs Repair, or some glith in downloading.
Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), off the HD & use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, reboot once more.

  • Solaris 10 upgrade fails with "mount failed"

I'm trying to upgrade an aged Ultra 80 to Solaris 10u9 (from Solaris 10u2 or so), so that it can be used for our product testing purposes. After several unsuccessful attempts, I finally freed up enough space on the / filesystem (5.2GB free) by moving /opt to a newly installed second drive.
However, the upgrade now fails with
"Mount failed for either root, swap, or other file system.
    Pfinstall failed. Exit stat= java.lang.UNIXProcess@e2892b 2"
At the end of the log file it says
"Checking c0t0d0s0 for an upgradeable Solaris image.
ERROR: Mount failed for either root, swap, or other file system."
I'm stumped. It doesn't say which file system it's having problems with.
Any ideas as to how to troubleshoot this problem, or what the cause might be? At 30 minutes per upgrade attempt, I'd like to know what the cause is rather than pursuing trial and error.
    Thanks.

Look at your "vfstab" and see if there are any mounts that need a specific driver like a SAN-provided LUN. Comment them out during the upgrade for the upgrade tries to mount everything in your /etc/vfstab and if it doesn't have the driver/software to do it, it will fail...

As Office is not an Apple product, I strongly recommend asking in the Microsoft Office:Mac forums here:

Firefox 3.6 requires at least OS X 10.4, the last version of Firefox that worked on OS X 10.3.9 was Firefox 2.0.0.20 which is available from ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/2.0.0.20/mac/

  • Mounting Failed - Broken Pipe

You'll have to forgive me, I'm new to posting in these forums and I'm really not 100% sure if this should be listed under software or hardware problems.
So every time I try to download something I get the same series of error messages over and over again "Mounting Failed" - "Unable to mount - Broken Pipe". I honestly don't know what this means and haven't been able to find any kind of solution for this problem. I love my iMac but Apple's support is beyond awful, I have to pay some idiot $50 so he can tell me he has no clue what I'm talking about and that I'm basically going to have to send it in anyways.
I just want to know if anyone else has had this problem and if so, what did you do to fix it? For once I'd like to be able to fix a problem on my own instead of throwing more money at this company to fix a problem that didn't even start happening until after one of their routine software updates. I would really appreciate any advice anyone has to offer me (Other than don't buy a Mac ever again)...Thanks : )

I had this problem. A temporary fix was here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4397173
    (see the second post)
For me, a permanent solution was to apply the 10.4.10 Combo Update. Make sure it's the Combo Update. Even if you already have 10.4.10, run it.
    You can find it here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/
(You'll need to mount it using the temporary fix.)
    Good luck.

  • Itunes 9.2.1 "mounting failed"

After having to reformat the HD on my G4 Powerbook, I reinstalled Tiger and the version of iTunes (4.x) that came on the DVD. After that, I attempted and have been continually attempting to upgrade iTunes to 9.2.1 with absolutely zero luck. My OS is upgraded to 10.4.11. iTunes is currently at version 4.7.1. I downloaded iTunes 9.2.1 from Apple at http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1056 . The problem I'm having is that every time I do the download, I get an error after download that says "mounting failed". I'm having no other system issues. Other downloads, like the one to upgrade Safari, worked fine with no mounting "failures."
I am at my wits end. Apple isn't being very supportive on this issue (unless I pay them, $49, which I don't have). This seems an awfully simple task that shouldn't be so problematic.
I am desperate. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Oh, I should add that I've completely removed iTunes from the computer, following the Apple support page that tells you how to completely remove iTunes, but, like every other time, this is followed by a 9.2.1 download that fails to mount.
    Thanks.

I first tried installing on top the existing 9.2 installation and then removed all of the iTunes/Quicktime programs(including amds) and tried installing again. In both cases AMDS would not install.

  • 'mounting failed' when trying to download iTunes8

I'm running OS X 10.4.11 on a PPC G5. I've tried to download iTunes8 (I currently have iTunes7.7, but need 8 for my new iPod), but at the end of the attempted download I get the message 'Mounting Failed'. I have spoken to 4 different operators in 2 different support departments (itunes/ipod support and computer support), but none have been able to help. One even said 'I've never heard of the message 'mounting failed' - perhaps it's a new one I haven't been told about".
    Can anybody help?
    Thanks in advance.

After looking at so many places/forums/discussion groups, I could only find one real solution for this problem and that was 'hard reset' your phone.
I have to admit that i used to hate this solution the most but it worked for me, infact I'm a fan of 'backup' + 'hard reset' solution now!
    Here is what you need:
    1. Backup your data/settings
Backup your device settings/data with Nokia PC Suite/ Ovi Suite.
    2. Hard Reset
    Switch off the phone.
Press GREEN + RED + CAMERA + ON simultaneously until you see the “Select Country” option.
    3. Restore
Restore your device using the same utility you used for backup.
    Note:
The default password for hard reset is 12345.
I got all my settings back after I restored my device and the OVI app is working like a charm now!

  • Problem: Mount Failed

Whenever I launch iPhoto 7.0.1 I get the following message:
    Mount Failed.
Could not mount volume "My Book".
If I click "OK" The message pops up again over and over untill I quit iPhoto
My Book is å WD My Book Pro connected via Airport Extreme.... or it WAS connected... it no longer works. No pictures from the library were stored on the disc. I tried deleting iPhoto and airport disk util's plist files. I also moved the library, so iPhoto would not find it. After doing all these things, and rebooting, I still have the problem (with a new library w/o any photos!)
The problem is user spesific; other users are not affected.
    Any help would be appreciated

Thanks for the tip. I had the same problem and indeed it was fixed by removing aliases to disk images from my User >Movies folder. However, I need those aliases there in order to access different disk images for viewing movies using the menu system in Front Row with the remote control on my iMac. Hopefully Apple will release a fix for this. Can anyone think of a workaround in the meantime?
