Mounting iMac on a wall?

I'm due to kit out a computer suite with iMacs, an idea that was suggested to me was the use of the wireless mouse/keyboard option, along with mounting them on the wall? - Is this feasible? Possible?

HI Daniel,
Might want to check out this article. http://www.computersake.com/2008/11/can-you-wall-mount-the-imac-intel-core-2-duo -17-and-20-imac-computers-that-are-vesa-compliant/
"As confirmed by Apple’s Support Site: "No VESA Mount Adapter Kit" for the iMac Intel "Core Duo" and iMac G5 "iSight", making these iMac models VESA non-compliant. And, "while similar in form to previous iMac G5 models, *these models are not compatible with Apple’s iMac G5 VESA Mount Adapter Kit.""*
But apparently there's *an adapter kit available*, read here. p://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/imac/faq_cd/imac-intel-vesa-wall-mounting.ht ml

  • Mounting Imac 17" to wall

Does anyone know if it's possible to mount the new Imac 17" Intel to a wall?
Apple offered an iMac G5 VESA Mount Adapter Kit for the 'old' G5 without Isight camera. But this adapter doesn't fit on the new Imac's.
Anyone a solution. The Apple helpdesk couldn't help me.
    G.

Read the last few posts in this thread. A guy did it with his Intel Core Duo, but of course he voided the warranty.

  • Mounting a mid 2007 24" imac on the wall

I want to use my 24"(mid 2007) as my main TV, i have found the apple vesa adapter kit to allow me to mount it on the wall, but am unsure how easy it is to remove the stand. Can the stand be removed from all 24" imacs or only the more recent ones. Any advice would be much appreciated.

It has always been the largest Intel model iMac that has a removable stand and a VESA kit. Your iMac was the largest in 2007 and has a removable stand. (Right now it is only the 27" that has a removable stand.) Some folks have reported through the years that it can be tricky to actually do it. Follow the instructions carefully.

  • Is it possible to hang/mount the new IMAC on the wall???

Just curious...just go one for my fiancee' and was wondering if it was possible to mount it to the wall to save a little space??? thanks Mike

No. Unlike the first two iMac G5 versions, the new iMac Intel CD---like the G5 iSight version it follows--- cannot have its stand removed from the back and is not VESA compliant.
Too bad, if you ask me, because the iMac would have been perfect if you could wall-mount it...

How to wall mount imac 20 inch intel? Any body has tried

The iMac 20" doesn't have a VESA-type mounting bracket on the back (the 24" one does). If you're brave and have the white plastic model, you can try [adapting an old iMac G5 mount kit|http://www.wikiela.com/wiki/Howto_wall_mount_a_Core_2_Duo_Intel_iMac_20_or17].
For other models, you can use the VESA adapter from [www.imacmount.com]. These are adapters that clamp a VESA-style mount bracket to the aluminum pedestal stand for the iMac. You can then attach the iMac (pedestal and all) to any VESA-compatible mount. Here's a picture of an 20" white iMac fastened to a wall using this method (same works for newer aluminum iMacs and the white 17" ones too):

  • Mounting a TC on wall (vertical mount)

I have a TC and would like to mount it on the wall for purposes of space. It is in a closet and I would prefer to not build a shelf for it to sit on. I currently have my AE on the wall and it works just fine with no heat issues. There is a company who makes wall mounting hardware who addresses this issue and it looks like the way to go.
Here is the link for the hareware.

    Any thoughts?
    Robert

Thanks for the information. I have enough space for ventilation to not be a problem and yes plugging in a USB would be a problem though I have not historically plugged anything into my router. I am planning on upgrading my printer currently directly plugged into a desktop printer with a wireless printer to be on my network.
What items would cause wi fi interference? I have cut out a space in the wall which holds all of my internet and cable wires for the entire house. It lives behind a metal plate from Lutron. The only other item in that room is the alarm box for my home security.
It will be mounted at about 9 feet off the floor and there is not second floor in my home.
Do you feel the heat rising up through the TC would be an issue or the placement of the antennae? I ask this because I read this in different threads.
I wish I had made the "in wall" space for my wires, switch and modem a lot bigger but it seems to work fine.

  • Can the H-Squared Air Mount for AirPort Extreme be mounted horizontally on a wall withOUT the Horizontal Adapter?

Can the H-Squared Air Mount for the Airport Extreme Base Stataion (5th Generation) be mounted horizontally on a wall withOUT also having to buy the Horizontal Adapter (which costs another $14.95)?
Are there mounting holes in the Air Mount to allow for that?

Can the H-Squared Air Mount for the Airport Extreme Base Stataion (5th Generation) be mounted horizontally on a wall withOUT also having to buy the Horizontal Adapter (which costs another $14.95)?
Yes, if you wanted to use a couple of L brackets, you could do this. The chances of the pre-drilled holes in the L brakets  lining up with the pre-drilled holes in the Air Mount are open to question, though. So, you may need to some drilling.
I suppose you could design your own horizonatal adapter out of wood, but once you did that, you might as well use another piece of wood for the top shelf. Then, you don't need the Air Mount at all.
Are there mounting holes in the Air Mount to allow for that?
The Air Mount has a dozen, maybe more pre-drilled holes. As you might imagine, the Horizontal Adapter mates perfectly with the Air Mount.  The picture in the link below will give you a good idea.

  • Mounting a 20" Al iMac on the wall

Has anyone done this before? I would love some advice or links to products that could help me.
    Thanks!

This would be the easiest VESA compliant solution because the stand cannot be removed from the 20" iMacs without opening them up and gutting them to get to the rear where the stand is attached.
I think that it is a bit unique in that it uses the cable passthrough on the stand as its attachment point

  • External Hard Drive Wouldn't Mount (iMac Late 2013)

Just wanted to drop a line here in case anyone else was having the same problem and perhaps to get an explanation from someone as to specifically why this is the case as it is disappointing/strange.
In short: I got a Seagate Expansion desktop external hard drive (2 TB).  Unpacked it, plugged it into my early 2014 iMac (3.5 GHz i7/Build 13E28 running 10.9.4) and.....nothing.  Switched out cables.  Nothing.  Switched ports.  Nothing.  The drive was initializing, steady light, and you could hear it and feel it running but it not only didn't mount you could see nothing at all in Disk Utility.
Assuming something was wrong with the drive, I went and plugged it into my old trust 2009 Macbook Pro (still running strong!) and the drive this time flashed a few times and then instantly mounted.  The 2009 MBP is also running 10.9.4 so Mavericks is not to blame here.  Perplexed, I formatted it (Mac OS Extended), went back to the iMac and still.....nothing.  Steady light (but not the blink), can hear the drive going but not showing up.
Went to this forum, found a bunch of posts blaming Seagate USB 3 connections, enclosures, and everything under the sun.  Tried a few things but nothing.  Seemed to me that because of the initial blinking that happened when I plugged it into the MBP that it was a power issue, the iMac is not giving its ports enough juice.  Found a USB repeater extension, plugged it in with that- voila.  It shows up.
So it appears the iMac is not giving enough power to its USB ports.  Strangely I never noticed this before because its never been a problem- I have other Seagate drives (also USB 3 and also plug in powered as this trouble device is) that have always worked fine.
Does anyone have an explanation?  Just curious and if there are specs that I have to look out for on drives to avoid it would be good to know.  Many thanks,
    E

I'm sorry but this not a very good answer.  There are hundreds upon hundreds of external hard drives that do not require a power supply.  The one I bought is one of them.  It is able to mount WITHOUT A POWER SUPPLY ON A 2009 MBP and VARIOUS OTHER MACHINES.  Sorry but I seem to need to emphasize this as I'm not sure you're understanding.  HOWEVER it will not mount on the late 2013 iMac.  Obviously there is a power issue with these ports.  I just wanted an explanation as to why a new desktop ISN'T able to do something that a 5 year old laptop CAN do.

  • IOmega cannot be mounted iMac

Hey guys i need some help here..
the last time i've used my iOmega i think was end of December 2014.
Now I'm trying to get some work done which are saved on it. But my iMac is not recognising the "disk".
It's also was my "Time Machine". I just deleted it as one because i thought it might help? So nothing happened there.
    I'm using an iMac 21.5-inch, Mid 2011
Processor 2,5 GHz intel Core i5
    Memory 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3
    OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.1
Not it says it cannot be mounted, cannot be ejected and cannot be obviously repaired, even though the iOmega itself is blinking.
So I'm thinking the hard drive is not broken?
    (see error messages attached)
Has anyone had the same problem?
Need a reply and solution asap.
    Thanks!
    -Mya

    Thanks Baltwo!
my iOmega somehow fixed itself after 2hrs of waiting
anyhow just in case something wrong happens again, I probabaly should get one of those.
are you using any of those? wich one is the best or would your recommend?

  • HT1661 Problems mounting Imac in target disk mode on retina laptop with a solid state drive as host

I'm trying to use an Imac in target disk mode to copy files from it to a new retina display laptop with a solid state drive, but the target drive will not mount even tho it does start in target disk mode. I have all the proper firewire connection. The Imac will not respond for more than a few minutes before crashing when started from its own system. I would like to salvage a few files from it before I perform a clean install of the system.
Anyone has any idea why it wont mount in Target mode onto the retina laptop? Help!
    Thanks in advance. :-)

Mac OS X doesn't offer a "clean install" option.
I'm assuming your target Mac is running 10.6?
And you setup the target Mac without adding a Firewire cable until after the Firewire logo appears on the screen?

  • Attaching iMac to the wall -- like a flatscreen ?!?!

Hi, I'm about to buy my FIRST apple in April, and looking into the iMacs. My husband & I were wondering if it's possible to remove the foot pedistol (spelling!?) from the screen, and attach the screen just to the wall, like a flatscreen. THis would be AWESOME, if it's possible b/c we have limited space on our desk...
    Thanks so much
    PC converter...

I'm wondering how you'd access the ports on the back of the computer. Will you be totally wireless (bluetooth keyboard/mouse, airport, etc?)
btw, since I see you're new to Mac, you might be interested to know that OS X has a built in spell checker since you indicated you were having spelling issues. Command key Colon key together, or right-click.
Congrats on getting a Macintosh. I LOVE mine and never consider going back to Windows.

  • Mount imac 180 degrees?

I have a 27" iMac, 2011 vintage or so.  For ergomatic reasons, I want to run the iMac rotated 180 degrees.  This effectively lowers my screen height making it easier to read with progressive bifocal glasses.
Anyway, I have already turned my iMac upside down using a Vesa mount (and eliminated the factory mount/stand).  There is a setting in Display settings that let's you switch the video and keep the video at 180 degrees, so I assume operating the iMac at 180 degrees (upside down) is OK? My question is this - will I do any harm to the iMac? It seems to be operating normally, and I use an app that lets me know the operating temperature.  I can also adjust the fan speed to keep temperature in check.  Assuming I keep an eye on operating temperatures, any reason this is not a good idea?

I had already done as much adjusting as I could to the monitor height and chair height. Still needed more adjustment, hence this unusual solution.

  • Reverse vesa mount imac 2013

    Hi guys,
I purchased a late 2013 27" iMac with the VESA mount in November of 2013. Now my office situation has changed and I will not be able to hang my iMac anymore. My questions is; can I get a stand for my mac? I know originally Apple said this would not be possible, but I thought the market may have adapted to the needs of people like myself.
    Looking forward to your suggestions.

    Hi a brody,
Thanks for the link, however this does not solve my problem. I fear I may bot have explained properly.
I already have the VESA mount on the back of the iMac - it came with it from the factory. So my Mac never had a stand, and apple said the stand can not be fitted afterwards.
But I am hoping there is a way I can get a stand for it.
    Cheers
