Mounting network drives in the left pane of the finder...

in tiger, i was able to mount a network drive and have it show up in the left pane of the finder. now, when i connect to a network drive (clicking "go", "connect to server", and typing the IP address). it opens up a new finder window with the contents of the network drive, however, it doesn't show up in the finder pane...
also, the "network" icon in the left pane is gone. is there a way to bring this back?

Does this work for you?! I can't get this to appear, least i have the icon on the desktop now but having it in the finder is what I really want,
Some very good features in Leopard but they really do seem to have messed around with things unnecessarily, custom firewall changes, network mounts appearing etc etc

  • Lion install listed in Finder Left pane Can't find it Don't know how to get rid of it

The Lion install app seems stuck in the left pane of my Finder app. I have searched for the location of this app and cannot find it. I also cannot get rid of it ... stuck there on my left hand screen. Clicking on it does nothing. Why is it there? How do I get rid of it? Thanks!

Hold down cmd and drag the item off the pane. Had forgotten this.
I still wonder why it was there and where the app is at this point?

  • Mount network drives

    Hi,
How can I create a script that will connect to a windows server with a username and password and mount network drives on my desktop, and how do I set this script to automatically run when I login?

Hey guys. I'm glad I found this post. I'm trying for the same result. I currently work at a school in which every teacher has a computer that connects to the local network by signing in with a username and password. However, my computer has fried and they can't get me a new one until... well... whenever. I've brought my MacBook Pro in and have connected to the internet which is great but I need to access a network (H:) drive in order to update progress reports and report cards.
I don't know much and the IT guy is impossible to reach and hasn't returned any emails. I just need to connect to that one folder. I was assuming and ftp or and smb would do the trick but I have no idea what server I would need to try and access through the finder, applescript, or terminal. I did an ipconfig on another teachers computer and got a few ip's as well as the folder's location on the network 'server_4\folder' (H:) if that helps. I've tried connected by ftp through the finder to all of the ip's and have gotten an error saying that I can't connect. I have also did a whatsmyip.com search for my root ip address and have tried the same approach. For some reason, it connects by says my username and password were incorrect.
Well that's about everything. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

This was a very large store of personal emails. The folder title was Iran. I'm not aware that I did anything in particular, and everything else in the left pane looks perfectly normal. What to do?

It looks like that the installation process of one of the applications have caused some trouble. One of them may have changed or added kext files.
For that, the Window server crashed if you try to open a non Apple application like Firefox
Start the system in safe mode by holding the shift key on power on.
If save mode is reached, perform a permissions repair with the Disk Utility.
Don't bother about upcoming warnings like "could not repair file xy" as that occur cause you use the tool on a running system and opened files can not get touched by the tool.
After repair is done reboot system to normal and try to open Firefox.
If the problem persits, please report back here.

  • What is the yellow wheel in the left margin of the subject field of the thread pane?

Today, some, but not all of the unread mails had a little yellow sun-like wheel symbol in the left margin of the inbox thread pane.
The symbol appears in the same area where other mails can have small arrows indicating that I have answered to a mail.
When I click any such mail, it changes to the read state (normal typeface as opposed to bold), and the wheel also goes away.
While trying to ask this question, I had to request a password reset, and after receiving that mail, the last remaining unread message that had this wheel, no longer had it. I am thus unable to make a screenshot demonstrating the symbol. However, it consists of a circular yellow area with a large number of short black lines in the radial direction, placed evenly along the perimeter inside the yellow area, forming a ring or radial lines.
If you know about the symbol, what do you call it? What does it try to tell?
In case it matters, I use an IMAP account.

Looks like it is the New message indicator when using threaded messages.

  • Bug - View changes to grid when expanding a collection in the left pane.

Tried submitting this via the bug report form but got java errors. Sigh...
This seemed like the best alternative.
    ******BUG******
    Concise problem statement:
View changes to grid when expanding a collection in the left pane.
    Steps to reproduce bug:
    1. Goto Library Module
    2. Ensure there is a collection with at least one child - if not create one.
    3. Make sure the collection is collapsed (you cant see the child and you see a right pointing triangle to the left of the collection name)
    4. Change to Loupe view
    5. Click the right pointing triangle next to the parent collection you just created to expand it.
    Actual Results:
    View changes to grid
    Expected results:
View should remain unchanged - in this case Loupe view.

The first is that I can't view the aperture library anymore directly from iphoto.
THat is exceeding strange since iPhoto '08 could not open or share an Aperture library - that ability was first introduced in iPhoto '11 - with the latest version of iPhoto and or Aperture you can open the same library with either application - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5043
In the current version of iPhoto the photos are sorted by date in the film strip - I've not recently done a calendar so do not remember the specifics -

  • The bookmarks library window doesn't show my bookmarks folders in the left pane anymore

When I click "bookmarks", then "show all bookmarks" it brings me to the library window. My bookmarks folders don't show up in the left pane anymore. Before, you could click onto a folder in the left pane and it would show all of the bookmarks that are in that folder in the right pane. What happened?

This can be caused by a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

  • Missing tabs on the left pane

Some tabs are missing on the left pane, including available objects.  It's this case even I logged on using administrator.  So I think it's not related to access rights.
The env is BOE XI 3.1 SP1 on Windows 2003.
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Hi Chris.
Are you getting an error message? If so, what does it say?
Which tabs are missing, other than available objects? Do you mean the tab is missing, or the objects are missing?
    Thanks

  • Entries in the Left Pane on iPad

    Hi,
I'm trying to make use of the left pane in Adobe Reader for IOS on an iPad.  The problem is that I can't figure out how to get anyting into the pane - specifically, I'd like to put various folders there.  Can anyone help with this?
    Thanks,
    Bryan

Really?  Wow. There is a lot of real estate essentially unusable if that's the case.   This seems like an opportunity.  The functions listed there now (recent items, documents, what's new) seem like they could be provided in other ways and more "browser functions" provided to the user.

If it has a cloud icon it means its no longer on your device.  Tapping on the cloud will effectively reinstall the App from scratch to your device.
There is no way to remove it from the cloud because its not yours to remove from there. Its the general App repository, you are just given access to it to download content you've already purchased.

  • I recently downloaded itune 10.5.2 (11) when I run it the blue pane on the left does not exist, the one that shows your playlists, purchased music etc.

I was recently prompted to download the newest version of itunes.  I downloaded it and it actually says its 10.5.2 (11).  Regardless of the version once downloaded I opened it to use it and the blue pane on the left that contained the original playlists, purchased items etc is non existent.  Does anyone know if I am missing a setting or display set up or is it a biger problem?

Refer this article to reset Winsock to it's default.  Your PCTools may have inserted LSP.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4123?viewlocale=en_US
After reset and restarting windows, you may get a prompt to remap LSP, click no.

  • Can not change folders in "save as" or "upload" window in Windows 7. The folder structure doesn't appear in the left pane.

The "save as" or "upload" location only displays the files in the last folder I saved in. I can not move out of that folder.

Yes, Navigation Pane, that's the one I meant.
It's checked but it's not there? Does it help at all to uncheck it and then go back in and turn it back on?
Or is it just mostly useless. It is annoying that Windows 7 doesn't synchronize the Navigation pane with the file list.
What I generally do is click the folder name in the top address bar to navigate up to a level or two. Then I can drill back down to where I need to go using the right pane. Does that work for you?

  • Drag and drop icons from onside of the split pane to the other side.

    Hello All,
I am tring to write a program where i can drag and drop icons from the left side of the split pane to the right side. I have to draw a network on the right side of the split pane from the icons provided on the left side. Putting the icons on the labels donot work as i would like to drag multiple icons from the left side and drop them on the right side. CAn anyone please help me with this.
    Thanks in advance
    smitha

The other option besides the drag_n_drop support
http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/dnd/intro.htmlis to make up something on your own. You could use a glasspane (see JRootPane api for overview) as mentioned in the tutorial.
Here's another variation using an OverlayLayout. One advantage of this approach is that you can localize the overlay component and avoid some work.
