Mounting options for iMac G5

I need to attach an iMac G5 to mounting arm. The rep that sales the mounts said that his will attach to standard flat screen interface called VESA. The VESA interface is either 75mm or 100mm. Anyone tried to attach an iMac G5 to one of these?
Thanks

Thanks.
In another thread I found that the Apple Store sells a mounting bracket that replaces the stand. This bracket has VESA compliant holes at 100mm.

You can't add an internal drive, but you can add as much storage as you want via Thunderbolt.

  • Mount options for ZFS filesystem on Solaris 10

    Do you know some recomendation
about mount options for SAP on Oracle
    with data on ZFS filesystem?
    Also recomended block size required.
We assume that file system with datafiles has 8kb block size
and offline redologs has default (128kB).
    But what about ONLINE REDOLOGS?
    Best regards
    Andy

SUN Czech installed new production HW for one Czech customer with ZFS filesystem on data-, redo- and archivelog files.
Now we have performance problem and currently there is no SAP recomendation
    for ZFS file system.
The HW which are by benchmark about tvice power has worst responses than
    old hardware.
    a) There is bug in Solaris 10 - ZFS buffers once allocated are not released
(generally we do not want to use buffering due to prevence of double
         buffering)
    b) ZFS buffers takes about 20GB (32GB total) of memory on DB server
and we are not able to define huge shared pool and db cache. (it may be possible
to set special parameter in /etc/system to reduce maximum size of ZFS buffers to e.g. 4GB )
    c) We are looking for proven mount option for ZFS to enable asynchronious/concurent io for database filesystems
    d) There is no proven clear answer for support of ZFS/SOLARIS/Oracle/SAP.
SAP says It is Oracle problem, Oracle does not certify filesystems from Jan2007
any more and says ask your OS provider and SUN looks happy, but performance
goes down and it is not so funny for system with 1TG DB with over 30GB grow

  • Oracle VM Server 2.2.1 - Extra mount options for /OVS

    Hi,
we would like to know how to add extra mount options (rw,hard,intr,tcp,rsize=32768,wsize=32768,timeo=600) to /OVS in Oracle VM 2.2.1.
In version 2.1.5 and lower it was possible by adding those options together with the UUID in /etc/ovs/repositories.options
How to manage mount options in Oracle VM 2.2.1? I've tried the same and no success.
Best regards and thanks in advance,

If it doesn't work we will analize which options can improve the performance.Marc, why not just use the OVS' NFS mount for the system/root partition and mount an NFS volume from within the guest itself? That way, you can set all the parameters you need. Also, the netfront drivers (I'm told) are slightly more efficient that the blockfront drivers, so you could even see a performance improvement.

  • PCI Option For iMac

I own a professional recording studio. The studio and the software I use was purchased with a Mac in mind from the start. Unfortunately after spending far too much money on my mics, outboard gear, mixing console and the rest the bank was broke and a Mac capable of running the studio was not in the budget. I had always had a tower in mind because it always was dominant Mac and could be expanded. Also for one major reason, use PCI based plugins and my interface for recording needs a PCI slot to run as well. With the advances in Mac over the last couple years months the iMac could fit my needs far better than a tower, and with a 24" screen, it would be ideal for mixing. Are there PCI options out there for iMacs, such as something that would plug in via firewire or ethernet? Thought I's ask the experts.
    thanks

I hate to disappoint you but iMacs are not designed for expansion. They do not have available PCI slots for third-party cards. For that you need a tower style Mac. You might consider something from the G4 or early G5 Power Mac tower lines such as the QuickSilver or Mirrored Drive Door G4s or one of the earlier G5 models that still have PCI slots. Later G5s have PCI-X slots. Because these are no longer in production they can be purchased used through eBay or some online retailers who vend used/refurbed older Macs.

  • External Monitor Options for iMac?

I have an iMac and have been using a lot with my 7D files. They look great, but I would like to have an external monitor output. Any ideas on output modules for iMac? Thanks!

is if there is a Firewire out that can send my Color display out to my Trinitron monitor, like FCP
No, absolutely not. COLOR does not support FireWire output. The developer intended the application to be used with a PCIe Video I/O interface, (Kona, for example, as opposed to GPU) supporting HD-SDI output, and the fixed output gamma characteristic of 2.2 was assigned as default to support that.
*All other approaches* are considered to be +ad hoc+ substitutes and are +de facto+ "as is". The policy should be read as -- "we made it one way which functions very precisely; if you want something else, that's your business"... but for a very large number of non-broadcast content producers, that's fine. It doesn't matter if its technically "wrong", as long as there is a result, not to imply that no one cares about the products they are generating -- but there are obviously some very large knowledge gaps in the consuming population in this area.
That's my possibly cynical interpretation of the history and situation...

  • Power options for iMac

We are ready to order a new iMac.
Of the options, which is the most important for Photoshop CS3/digital photography work:
    A) the fastest video card, given two good choices
2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo or 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    B)the most powerful processor
ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO w/256MB GDDR3 or ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO w/256MB GDDR3
    C) the most RAM
I've pretty much decided on the maximum 4 gigs of RAM, but am trying to figure out if I need the MOST in the other two departments. I am not a gamer, don't do video and am switching from PCs to Mac. Whereas I'd like to keep the price down, I do not want to be underpowered just to save a couple hundred bucks and have no one locally for a reality check.

    >We are ready to order a new iMac. ...for Photoshop CS3/digital photography work
The latest iMacs will accept 4 GB RAM and have a FW800 port to add the necessary external drives. Today such a configuration indeed will do an adequate job of just running PSCS3 - but just running the apps does not make a box the best choice.
For life cycle and for performance reasons IMO iMacs are much less good choices than towers for desktop graphics workstations. iMacs are subject to the very significant limitations noted below.
Just the RAM limitation alone is an obvious serious limiter even with today's app versions, and as RAM prices continually fall modern apps and the OS are taking advantage of more and more RAM all the time. E.g. even though Photoshop can only directly address ~3 GB RAM, PS running under OS X has shown improved performance with 8 GB and more RAM for about 5 years now.
Boxes purchased today will be running the OSs/apps of the next few years, when the 4 GB limitation of iMacs will become even more significantly limiting. I consider RAM the bargain value performance enhancer today and it will only get better, so IMO limiting a graphics desktop box destined for 2009-2012 usage to 4 GB max RAM is poor life-cycle decision making.
I would also point out that, as consumer boxes, iMacs now only come with glossy displays. Matte vs. glossy is a matter of personal preference, but personally I find glossy unacceptable. Most graphics pros do not want their displays arbitrarily adding contrast and saturation to their work. That, for me, makes iMacs unacceptable at any price.
Some pros get around the iMac's glossy display issue by having their second display a matte and just using the iMac for palettes. I guess that could work but it is not something I would want to do because frequently I compare images on both displays.
All Photoshop versions require a separate hard drive for scratch to achieve best performance. That starts an iMac with at least one permanently attached external drive limited to FW speeds. The SATA of MPs is far preferable. Note too that if DSLR batch image handling were to creep into the usage during the life of the box that single FW800 port will also be limiting as regards disk i/o.
Any new box should be planned for the apps and OS versions expected to be in use during the life of the new box in addition to current apps. That includes CS4, OS 10.6 and beyond. And, IMO when buying for the graphics-pro future we should be equipping folks with the ability to handle image management apps like Aperture because managing DSLR captures will become more and more prevalent a need over the life of most new desktop graphics boxes.
iMacs are nice consumer boxes and I have purchased them for family members, but they are much less-good desktop choices for graphics professionals. Better would be a refurbished Mac Pro, even the 2006 model. Note also FWIW that new Macs of various flavors will be announced between now and Mac Expo SF in January, starting with laptops tomorrow (new MPs likely sometime between now and Q2 2009).

  • Memory options for iMac

Does the Late 2013 iMac with 3.5 GHz i7 support triple or quad channel memory? I am running Mavericks 10.9.5 with the stock 8GB and trying to find the highest possible memory bandwidth the machine can run.
In other words, will 2x8GB, 3x4GB, or 4x4GB will give the highest speed access to memory? I am not often seeing the used RAM exceed 7GB, so I am not too worried about passing 12GB if triple channel is supported.

    BrianAdam3342,
The answer is really pretty simple, iMacs are fussy about upgraded RAM installed. If you want your machine to work reliably follow these three rules of thumb and you will likely be rewarded with years trouble free RAM use. :
Buy high quality RAM from recommended sources such as OWC (www.macsales.com) or Crucial
Stick with the specifications Apple recommends.
Install matched sets of RAM. If you are going to continue using your existing 8GB,
    add 2x4GB = 12 GB
add 2x8GB = 24 GB or if you want to max out at 32GB
    add 4x8GB = 32 GB
Add the RAM in options 1 & 2 to the 2 empty slots when you open the iMac's RAM door.

  • SSD option for iMac when working off external worth it.

Ordering the maxed out iMac 27 i7 16g ram etc. is the SSD helpful if I work off externals for all my media etc.
I have the Air and see the boost for start up and application load times. Other than that is it really a boost for working with say FCP with media on an external drive.
I would assume the boost only helps if the files are on the actual ssd which given its size is not possible.
    So a bottleneck occurs.
Just could use 600$ in other areas if I only gain a fast startup and fast app loading.
    Thanks

Thank you and so well spoken baltwo
I have gotten so much "your crazy" from my buddy for spending tha max on everything else why not just SSD.
Just seemed at 600$ what's the gain if all my content is bottle necked on a second drive Or external....what's the point. Rather spend that cash on proper backing up solutions etc.
Guess I was feeling what we all are getting caught up in this SSD speed vacum. I have the air it's snappy and great but all files are residing on the drive. Not happening on an iMac so was wondering how much of gain is true to form.

  • Wide gamut options for iMac, what are they

We have a new iMac 22 inch model and when we try to calibrate it as a wide gamut monitor using Datacolor Spyder Studio we get the error that this is not a wide gamut monitor. *** I thought this was the ultimate in displays!
What do we have to do to get a wide gamut display? We really don't want to add a monitor

Color gamut is a bit worse on the new panel vs. the old one from what I can tell. Both are WLED backlit which limits the  spectrum of colors they can accurately reproduce.

We have a filesystem mounted via NFS on 2 systems, both are automounted. When we run a bdf command de filesystem doesn’t appear, but if we try to access to the filesystem we can. We would like to know if there’s any recommendation about the mount options for filesystems.

The directory is mounted by autmount when you access that directory.
    This is exact automount functionaility.
This is why you cannot see in the output of "df" command when you are not using.

  • BTRFS : Subvolumes, mount options

    Hello,
I took a look at btrfs, read the wiki, some guides and I have a few questions :
    1) In every guide I read, even on the official wiki, the root and home subvolumes are created separately. I don't understand why since the two are "linked" it would make more sense to create the home subvolume inside the root subvolume. From what I understand it wouldn't make the snapshots harder because the subvolume children are ignored when snapshotting. Moreover since subvolume children are automatically mounted we can mount the all system in one command only, so only one line in fstab to mount everything. So why not create the subvolumes directly in the root subvolume ? The only drawback I can see is that you can't set different mounting options for the children.
    2) Same goes for autodefrag option, wherever I read about btrfs and SSDs the autodefrag option is always there. I understand defragmentation for a spinning device but fail to see the usefulness on SSDs. Moreover defragmentation is really bad for SSDs as it shortens their lifespan. So the way I see it defragmentation and autodefrag only has drawbacks for SSDs. What am I missing ?
    3) For the same SSD lifespan concerns I plan to not use inode_cache and space_cache by using the nospace_cache option. So my options would be :
    rw,noatime,compress=lzo,ssd,discard,nospace_cache
    Does that seem optimal ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Nolhian

If /home is nested it may lead to confusion if you later want to mount home-snapshot-1 to /home. Keeping things separate, while not required, is still a good idea.
My mount options for my ssd-based root subvolume are: "defaults,noatime,discard,ssd,subvolid=0". I don't know where you've seen autodefrag as a standard ssd option, like you say, it doesn't make much sense for ssds.
Can't comment on the caches.  There's a few threads on the mailing list that may be of interest to you though (not read them myself).
