Mounting parition issues

Hi all,
Issue#1:
Every time I try to mount my windows partition in thunar i get "Failed to mount  "New partition" Not authorized to perform operation."
I have udisks,udisk2,gvfs, gvfs-ac, polkit-gnome.  What am I missing here ?
If i add the entry to /etc/fstab it gets mounted but I was hoping that it would work even without me having to add the entry to /etc/fstab file.
Any ideas what I need to do to resolve this ?
Issue#2:
When I inser usb the usb gets automounted but I am unable to delete/paste files to the usb. From thunar I am unable to change the permissions on the drive too.
I have ntfs and ntfs-3g installed.
Any help on how to figure out the problem/solve the problem  would be really helpful.
Thanks,

Try the suggestions in the Permissions section of here.
I believe they work without udiskie itself (they are intended for udisks, after all), but you could also give udiskie a try, if you want.
Tried this aswell still doesn't work

    Hi
After upgrading to osx 10.9.3, my external hard drive was not able to mount, but it can be mounted without issue in osx 10.6, how do I solve it? it was formatted by disk utility.
    Thanks

    From the menu bar, select
 ▹ System Preferences ▹ Energy Saver ▹ Power Adapter
and uncheck the box labeled Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible, if it's checked.
If the drive has more than one interface (USB, FireWire, Thunderbolt, eSATA), try one of the other interfaces.
Check that the data cable is securely inserted at both ends.
    Try a different cable.
If you're connecting the drive through a hub, connect it directly to a built-in port on the Mac.
If you're connecting it directly, try a different port.
Disconnect all other devices on the bus, or as many as possible.
Test the drive with another Mac. Test another drive with this Mac.
If the drive is bus-powered, but has an AC adapter, connect the adapter.
Start up in Recovery mode and launch Disk Utility. Is the drive recognized?
Start up in Safe Mode and test.
    Reset the NVRAM.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
If the drive doesn't work under any of the above conditions, and if another drive does work with the same Mac, then the drive has failed. You may be able to salvage the mechanism by removing it from the enclosure and installing it in another one, or in a drive dock.

  • About the" Can't mount Ipod" issue

It seems like many people have the problem of "Can't mount Ipod"issue.Just curious, for the people that has window XP,did you guys recently updated your computers?
well, I did and it seems like a bad idea.maybe it just me,if any of you guys happen to use daemon tool or some sort program like that, did anyone get a error saying" Plz disable the Kernel Debugger or KDB and SoftICE and WinDBG in order to use"
well, before the window update my IPOD was working perfectly and so was the program I mentioned. Then after that update,my computer refuses to "see"my Ipod therefore, it was impossible for me to even restore it.I just bought a 60 GB IPOD thinking that it was my old IPOD had problems .Now the new one is sitting there uselessly for 2 weeks now...For the tech people out there, how the #%$# do you disable this Kernel Debugger thingy ?
    Help aprriciated

I'm having the same exact problem with mine. It takes a couple of times for me to get it in disk mode, but when I do, I connect it to my computer and the same thing happens each time: "Can't mount iPod"!
It always goes back to the iPod with a sad face. I'm continuing to work on the problem. Email me at [email protected] if you come up with anything. I'd like to work with someone, maybe it can get this fixed faster.

  • Parition issue when selecting from the main table

I have a partitioned table where i jsut did a partition
    exchange with another temp table.
when I query the partition it looks good, i.e. the data is there, but when I query the data directly
on the table no rows are returned.
    for example
    select count(*)
    from sales partition (2007)
    12455
    select count(*)
    from sales
    where year = 2007
    0 rows
I've reviewed the parition 2007 and esnured the 'where year = ' clause is accurate via previous years.
why am i not seeing this data in the second query?
    db = 10G R2
    thanks

    create table SALES

    as select * from table...
note: year,fscl_period,channel are all NUMBER datatype.
    Fiscal period is month bascially
I am wondering if doing this all this in a range partition, and not a range/list which channel may be better qualified for data wise, is the issue. Or perhaps range by year, sub by month, then list by channel. What will the impact be either way?
Interestingly, the data will come back on a star query i.e. when the SALES table is joined to the calendar_dim (via a day_id field) and use the 2007 predicate from the calendar_dim rather than the one on SALES (the one used for the part. definition).
Also, i did the partition exchange originally with the novalidation option. We tried again without that and the exchange failed saying some data doesn't qualify. But reviewing the data it appears it all should.
We then just did a giant insert statement and it all went through, but i have not had teh chance to validate what partitions the data live in now.
    thanks for any help.

  • AFS Mounting & Permissions Issues

I am having some unusual issues with AFP and setting permissions, etc. I am looking for a better resource to set up share points. For some reason I am having difficulties having share points automatically mount for users at startup. Sometimes the mounts will properly mount and sometimes they will mount under the "libraries" folder when the user logs in. As well, I am required at this time to have each user mount the point as a "guest" instead of using their regular username and password. I feel like I am missing something..haha.. Any ideas or better guides out there? Thanks.
    -Steve

    Hi Steve
Just wondering what are the benefits and
disadvantages to binding a client to the server?
Quite frankly, what is the point and what am I losing
if I don't bind each client to the server? At the
moment, I do not have the client bound to the server
    in Directory services.
No doubt others will offer their views and experiences. For me LDAP Services offer a centralized repository for often requested services as well as a means for System Administrators to control and administer a large user base from a centralized location.
Imagine you had 2 computers and 4 Users. Ordinarily you would create admin accounts for the 4 users on each of the 2 macs. Each user would then log on with their account details and work quite happily saving work either locally or to some shared resource such as a RAID. This is fine in this environment as you only have to worry about 4 users. What happens if this user base expands by a factor of 10, 20 or more? Local hard drive space would become limited as more and more users logged in to the same computer and saved more and more of their work. It does not stop there. What if half of the users moved around from computer to computer as well as installing and deinstalling applications with no regard to others? You would have user data stored across multiple computers with no clear idea as to which data was current as well as users waiting to use one particular computer because the application they want to use is installed there and nowhere else.
What would your backup strategy be in this scenario and how would you allocate resources?
An Open Directory Master with automounting Networked Home Folders allows system administrators to centralize all user accounts and home folders in one location. This allows for greater control and flexibility of resources. As far as your user base is concerned their experience would be the same regardless of which computer they sat at. If a client computer failed it would not matter as the user would move on to the next computer, log in again and access their data.
Of course this is a simplification. OpenLDAP as implemented by Apple and Microsoft is an extemely powerful tool if planned and used correctly.
Are you familiar with the software update server?
I mean, is there anything I need to do to set this up
properly for each client to grab from the local
server and not the Apple server? I want to make sure
I know everything before I go ahead and set up the
    SUS on our network. Thanks!
Software Update Service is one of the new technologies made available by Apple in the 10.4 version of OSX Server, it was not available in previous versions. There are two requirements for SUS: the server needs to be an Open Directory Master (this would require DNS Services to be running) and only 10.4 clients are supported. SUS would be a managed preference allowing administrators to define the location from which clients can retrieve System Updates. Its fast and makes better use of broadband bandwidth. For example the recent 10.4.9 Intel update was something like 300+MBs. Two client Intel Macs on a 2MBs broadband connection would take some time downloading and installing this update as well as choking the bandwidth for other internet users. Using SUS it takes approx 5 minutes.

  • Mounted volume issues in Gnome 2.22

Anyone else notice some weird quirks with the new Gnome 2.22?
When I plug in a flash drive, it automatically gets mounted -- all is good. However, when I remove the flash drive, the hal removes the device from my device list but Gnome does not unmount it. At least, I assume Gnome is to blame.
Also, in Nautilus, when dealing with case-sensitive filenames on a vfat partition, renaming a file to have the same name but in a different case results in a "this name is already in use" error, which strikes me as a very weird situation to be unable to handle, especially since Nautilus was fine with it before the upgrade.
    Any work-arounds to either problem?
    [edit: 5-2-2008]
Was a bug, not a feature, Gnome upgrades since have fixed both this and other gnome-mount related bugs. I have to say, 2.22 was one *buggy* Gnome release, at least as far as day-in day-out features went.

Yes. I just use $ sync and then pull it. Like I said, I'm usually in a hurry. It's faster to type "sync" than to type "sudo umount /media/my-disk" and then enter my password. Not a big deal, really, but it *should* work, which is what bothers me.

  • FW800 drive with mounting/unmounting issues.

Okay... so I have a 1TB Lacie triple interface drive for video editing. Yesterday I export some uncompressed HD footage onto it. It writes fine and everything. Then I go to open the file off the drive (it is 12.4GB for 3 minutes of footage[400mb/s]). It may not have been smart of me to open this file, because it crashed Quicktime right off the bat. Then every other application I had open stopped responding. I tried to wait for the OS to sort things out, and after a few minutes I ended up doing some force quits, and all seemed well. Then I go to unmount the disk. It does it's normal 10 seconds of sitting there and then powers down. I unplug the FW800 cable, and the Warning window pops up saying that the drive had actually not ejected. So then I try to mount the drive to make sure everything is okay, as this information is very important, and it won't mount. I fidget with different mounting software, and Disk Utility for an hour. No luck. I finally hook it up through USB. It mounts, I back up the info, and all is well. I eject the drive and then hook it back up through FW800. It mounts fine, and then all of my software starts crashing. I try to unmount the drive, and I have no luck. It just makes a lot of fan noise, and won't eject. I have never encountered any problem even remotely close to this, so any help would be greatly appreciated. What might I have done, and what might I do to fix it?

repair with Drive Genius or diskWarrior if Disk Utility can't do the job.
You may also repair with an "older" system (Panther-Tiger), that sometimes work well.
If your data is still there fine. If you backed it up, and you may have blown the drive's driver, then reformat it/re-initialize it. That's the fastest and safest.
    Luck!

  • Missing Mounted Volume Issue

I have a Linux Fileserver with netatalk running, I have three sharepoints on this server. The OS X machines have suddenly been unable to see the third sharepoint.
I have been investigating the problem and found that the volume is listed in the Volumes direcotry, and I can list the files, and the rights are correct yet the volume does not appear in the finder or on the desktop. I have repaired permissions and done just about everything I can think of. Has anyone come across anything like this before? Any suggestions about how I might fix this?

    hi, guys:
i think if you can lable it . the disk is fine, so my question what error are prodouced ?
and you have already lable it . the data must be lost . you save data no way .

    Hi Francois,
From the error description, I recommend you check the following things for troubleshooting:
    1. Please make sure that the Microsoft Exchange Mailbox Replication service is started. If no, please start it.
    2. Microsoft Exchange Mailbox Replication service is dependent upon the Microsoft Exchange Active Directory Topology and Net.Tcp Port Sharing service. Ensure that these two services are started.
    Hope my clarification is helpful.

  • USB Zoom H2 Audio Recorder No Longer Mounts in Leopard

First of all, this device doesn't have any drivers - it's just a simple USB mass storage device and it used to mount without issue in Tiger. However, on BOTH of the machines I've upgrade to Leopard, it no longer works at all. Tried multiple cables. Doesn't even show up in Disk Utility (although it DOES say it is connected in System Profiler and USB prober). Tried pram reset, PMU reset, various macfixit crap suggested for the 10.4.10 USB-breaking update. No dice. Anyone having similar issues, or maybe have a work arround?

I had the same problem as the original poster (H2 doesn't appear in Leopard).
I tried this suggestion in the last comment...
I +"Go find a Windows computer (even your mac rebooted in windows if you're into that whole BootCamp thing) and download the 1.2 firmware update to windows desktop. Connect your H2 to USB & copy the BIN file to the new device."+
I used Parallels on my Mac to run Windows Vista. I connect the H2 but it doesn't show up on Windows either.
I also tried connecting it on a Mac that was running OS X 10.4 and it didn't show up there either.
Is there a trick to get it to show up? Any other ideas? Thanks.

  • NFS mount from multi-homed server over TCP fails

nico: Solaris 9 NFS server, multihomed into three different networks (A, B, C)
    primary interface on A.
benno: Solaris 10, NFS client, on network
genie: RHEL5, NFS client, on network B
ilsco: Solaris 10, NFS client, on network B
I have immediate access to all servers except ilsco -- which, of course, is the one with the problem. =( If genie tries to mount a share from nico using its address on network A, everything works. If it tries to mount it using the address on network B, it fails.
In all cases, I can see the client make request to the server's portmapper daemon for the mountd port number. That request is issued to nico's address in network B. Nico replies, from its primary address in network A. When NFS works, I then see a null mount request issued by the client. Genie never issues that mount request.
    Working request from benno:
    [CLIENT] -> [SERVER, ADDR B] PORTMAP C GETPORT prog=100005 (MOUNT) vers=3 proto=UDP
    [SERVER, ADDR A] -> [CLIENT] PORTMAP R GETPORT port=58352

[SERVER, ADDR A] -> [CLIENT] PORTMAP R GETPORT port=32804Now, I've noted that, despite using the "-o proto=tcp" option, the portmap requests were pushed out over UDP. On benno, some of the traffic after the portmap request took place on the network A address; some of the traffic took place on the network B address.
On genie (the Linux box), I noted that the portmap requests were pushed out over the TCP and all traffic stays on the network B addresses.
Any suggestions, etc. as to what I am doing wrong or what else I should be looking at would be helpful.

Turned out it might just be a firewall issue... I didn't think about it first :(
    Sorry for that :x

  • IMac Disks will not mount under OS 9...

    ...only through Tiger.
I have an iMac G3 500mhz. It has a partitioned drive, and is running OS 9.x and Tiger. If I insert a CD, it won't mount on the desktop in OS 9. Also, firewire & USB drives won't mount in OS 9.
When I'm in Tiger, these items mount without issue.
What is the problem? Anyone else experience this?
    Thanks,
    Chris H.

Not sure about the CD, because a CD can have various formats. Some are not readable under Mac OS 9. What CDs have this problem, or is it all CDs? If it's all CDs, the CD driver (in Extensions folder) may be disabled. You can check using Extensions Manager.
For the hard drives, they should be formatted as HFS+ (also called Mac OS Extended). Not only that, but if they were formatted using a Mac OS X, that checkbox in Disk Utility for +Install Mac OS 9 Disk Drivers+ needs to be checked. If should be by default, but if it was unchecked during formatting or partitioning, then Mac OS 9 will not be able to access those drives. And again, there may be some USB and FireWire extensions disabled, which would prevent any USB or FireWire drive from mounting.
The disabling of those drivers is likely if the Mac OS 9 System Folder was being used for Classic under Mac OS X. Mac OS X handles such driver functions, so an experienced Mac user would have disabled certain unnecessary extensions in the Mac OS 9 System Folder. But if that same System Folder is used to boot the Mac directly, those driver functions would be missing.

  • Pismo G3 (upgraded to G4) Firewire mounting problems

I have two firewire drives (both 40GB). One will mount without issue on both of my systems (Emac and Upgraded Pismo G4). The other one will mount perfectly on by Emac and several other computers, but can take several minutes for it to mount on my Pismo. Most times it will eventually mount, but after a long delay.
I have formatted the drive and looked at it under disk utility, but everything seems to be ok. One further note, the badly behaving disk was also in another case and having the same bad behavior. It seems it is something with the disk itself, but it is strange that it only happens on my Pismo and not other system.
I'm Running Tiger and have had this problem in Panther and also before I upgraded my CPU to the G4 chip. It's really wierd that my other FW drive works and the problem one works on every other system I have tried. I have also tried swapping cables/ ports on the connection to the PB.
Do any of the experts have any idea what is going on?

    Michael,
    Just speculation here...
I had an older 5GB HD in a FireWire case and it absolutely would not mount unless I connected the little power brick to the FW case. I finally replaced the HD with a new one and the problems vanished. I can only speculate that the old HD was drawing too much power due to its age or a hardware issue and the FireWire port could not supply enough bus power to fully power the device. Your FW HD eventually mounts as it heats up and the current draw diminishes. So possibly your Pismo does not supply enough bus power to deal with the marginal FW HD but other Macs do.
Of course if you are already using a power brick, this theory goes out the window...
Question: Once the FW HD is thoroughly warmed up and mounted on the desktop, can you unmount it, disconnect the cable, then reconnect and have the HD mount in a reasonable time?

  • Install failed due to hard drive issue -- now can't start Mac

I downloaded and installed Mountain Lion, but about 5 minutes into the install it said it couldn't do it because of a hard drive failure. It then told me to restart and try again, which I did. It failed again for the same reason. This time I quit the installer and restarted. Now my Mac won't start up -- it gets caught on that first screen with the spinning icon.
How can I get my Mac back up and running?

    Hi David,
I am so sorry I could not post this earlier. It's too bad you replaced your drive. I hope you have not lost important data through this ordeal!
I also went to the Apple Store yesterday (as I am covered under Apple Care) and had a consultation with a 'genius' who very quickly concluded that I either had a faulty hard drive (which I knew was not the case) or the ENTIRE contents of my primary hard drive were corrupted. According to him, my only choice would be to reformat and re-install from scratch. I was also chastised for not backing up my data before attempting to upgrade to Mountain Lion. He was also very persistent in asking (multiple times) if I "understood technology". I was dismissed with the excuse that there were other people waiting for him and he could not waste his time on me - he actually said that while walking away... The store manager offered to direct my to a couple of companies near-by that would be able (for a hefty fee) to restore my data.
Anyways, this was not necessary. Despite the "corrupted data" error messages and the fact that the drive would not initially mount, the solution to the problem proved to be simple and my visit to Apple Store completely pointless.
This is what worked for me:
-- Use/borrow/buy (from Apple Store and then return for a refund) an external hard drive with firewire connectivity. The drive should have a fresh partition that you can erase and format as Mac OS Extended (Journalled) in Disk Utility.
-- Connect your mac to the Internet, preferably over Ethernet.
-- Restart the computer while holding the option key, select the Recovery Partition and begin the installation (in my case of Lion) by selecting to install on the freshly-created partition of the external hard drive.
-- Once that is done, you can actual start OS from the fresh partition by again holding the Option key at startup. In my case, as the drive was indeed healthy, it mounted without issues and I was able to simply copy->paste ALL my data (which the 'genius' insisted was corrupted and forever lost) on a separate drive.
-- After you back everything up, start up Disk Utility, erase and reformat the primary partition on your Mac (where you want the OS to be ultimately installed on) and repeat the installation process once again.
    Regards,
    Lena

Hi, This is the third time I called them but they are persistent that it is not cover under warranty for U430T. I do understand that if it is an accidental damage then it will not be covered. But my point is, from my end, there was no damage on the laptop and simply closed it and tried opening it after a while caused it. Furthermore refering to the post link, it is mentioned by Amy Tuper that if it is under warranty and cause is not by damage contact support. It is also mentioned that Lenovo launched an investigation in which it was concluded that there was mount failure on this model. So, my question is, isn't there a possibility that this defect could have been the mount failure issue ? Last call, they state that it is just for U530T even when the post says it is for both U430T and U530T. People on the same post have posted that they got it repaired by Lenovo for free. I am not sure what to believe, the post posted by Lenovo or the support service ? Can you please escalate the issue as it is hampering my day to day work. Awaiting reply from your end.
