Mouse acting all crazy in 10.3.9

My mouse has been acting really funny in 10.3.9 I have pplugged it into my laptop and had no problems with it so i am thinking it is on my G4. It bounces all over the place, I have no control of it. Often it freezes and I mess with the connection and sometime it works, sometimes not. Is it my USB?
thanks,
Katie

Hi Katie,
problems like yours are almost always a problem with the mechanics of the mouse. What kind is it? An optical mouse or one with a ball?
When you tried it with the laptop - did you use the mouse on the same surface like with your G4?
That's the first thing you could try: use the mouse on a different surface (....different mousepad or something like that) and see if it helps....

  • Mouse Buttons All Screwed up!

Out of the blue, my mouse is acting funny. I have used 3 different mice, 2 bluetooth and 1 usb. When I click something it acts as if I pressed down (or right click), but the little menu dissapears quickly as if I double clicked. This is very annoying. For some reason the mouse acts fine for the first few seconds when the computer turns on but then starts doing this. I tried to edit the double click settings in the Sys Prefs and I cant think of what could be wrong or what I can do to fix this. It seems to be a comp./os problem and not a mouse problem since I've tried 3 different mice. Please help!!!! I cant do anything on my mac.

No I have not added anything, the problem seems to have started out of no where. As I said, when I click something like an icon in the dashboard or on the net, it acts as if i right clicked, sometimes the menu stays so i can choose an option, sometimes it just appears for a second and then dissapears as if i clicked it twice. A very odd problem

  • HT5225 .Mac mail is not responding! Had to go through the whole "Move to iCloud" *twice because iCloud/Apple "acted all brand new" as if I hadn't taken care of this days ago! .Mac mail still not responding! What gives, Apple?

Like it says in the title, I already transfered to iCloud days ago, and now I go to check my e-mail and VOILA! Apple/.Mac/iCloud are acting all brand new, like I never did any thing!
So I go through the palabra again to continue using my .Mac e-mail, part of the whole *Family Pack* set-up I paid for each year circa $200 for the whole nine yards for the past six years, only to be told that in their infinite wisdom dwelling in their cushy bubble in Cupertino, Apple will no longer have the service I've been paying for, and "oh, don't worry, you can still have your e-mail"...
Still no e-mail. Still no consistently working .Mac service. Congratulations, Apple. Y'all are starting to look more and more like Microsoft, and no, that is not a complement.

i didn't read a lot of your 2nd paragraph, but it seems like the password is the issue, right?
    do a true clean install
reboot your machine and hold down command+option+r, you should see a spinning globe - if you don't see the globe or anything that reads internet recovery, shut down and try again
at menu, chose disk utility and once there, find your HD on the left side, select the physical name and erase it as mac journaled
    exit disk utlity
    at menu, choose install OSX
this time, when it asks for a password just hit continue, it will let you complete without a password
you should be able to get into your laptop, now figure out what password you'll be able to use with your kb issue

  • Mouse acting slow.  delayed action

my mouse just recently started acting up. also my tablet. when working in photoshop or anything, all of a sudden the cursor starts lagging behind, acting in retrospect, rather than realtime. I disabled virus software and backup software and disconnected my internet, but it's still doing it. Only program I'm using is photoshop. Hard drive has 50GB free space. I have 8GB of ram. I recently thought I activated a virus by mistake by opening a sketchy file I got via e-mail, but I ran virus barrier with the latest updates and it can't find any viruses anywhere. I can't figure this one out and it's driving me crazy.

    Hello,
There are no known Mac viruses, so you can eliminate that.
Have you checked your System Preferences/Keyboard&Mouse/Mouse to see if your scroll and double click is set to your liking?

  • Mighty mouse acting up (now there's a surprise...) Please help.

I've had this USB mouse since March 07 - so I know all about the problems, how to clean the track ball etc - and on the whole it's been okay so long as I serviced it regularly. But now it's acting up in a different way.
Today the primary (left) button wouldn't work and had instead 'become' the secondary button. So I checked the settings in System Prefs and they were all okay. I cleaned the mouse. No difference. I reset the permissions (read somewhere that is can have an effect). Still nothing. Turned off the Mac. Unplugged everything. Fired it all up again. Same problem. Fiddled around with System Prefs again and found that if I turn off the trackball button, set left button to primary and right button to secondary, I get the primary button function back again (but secondary button does not work). I can get secondary button function by Ctrl+click (like the old days).
Any ideas before I shell out 35 quid for a new one? BTW, I plugged in a seven year old Dell USB mouse and it works perfectly.
PS. Mighty Mouse is stylish and neat but has never been trouble free like most other makes. Such a shame.

Not so Mighty huh? Back to the drawing board. Perhaps someone else can help.

  • My 'mighty' mouse acts possessed

    Ahoy all!
A random thing has begun to happen on my mighty wireless mouse, but only in the evenings:
I will be moving it and it will go in a random direction. If I leave it still, the cursor will remain in the same place, but when I move the mouse...it becomes possessed! It usually goes in the general direction and will just veer, but sometimes it will go in a completely random direction or shoot across the entire screen!
It seems like I am picking up someone else's bluetooth signal, as it only happens at night (when a neighbor might be logged on to their computer?). I checked on my bluetooth devices and found a mouse there that I did not recognize (called 'Michael's Mouse'...and we have no neighbors named Michael) and deleted it. Unfortunately, the mouse still acts possessed and it gets really frustrating when you have full control only about 90% of the time.
    Help...

I had the same problem, make sure that your Bluetooth connection is invisible. That should solve the problem...

  • Mouse acts twice when I click once

I bought a G4 Quicksilver on Ebay when I retired my old identical G4, which I had used primarily on OS9.2. The "new" one works fine overall on OSX 10.4.11, but the mouse is crazy. I have to highlight a line 4-5 times because it keeps disappearing when I release the mouse, but eventually it stays. Also when I click twice to open a folder, it will double the action and also open something in the folder. If I click on the triangle to display the files in a folder, it will open it and immediately shut it again. If I use the item tool in Quark to capture a pic box or text box, it will vanish a couple of times first. It does work fine after two or three attempts at all these things but it's annoying to have to keep repeating my actions over and over. Is this Ebay mouse haunted or can these responses and lack of responses be cured??? Thanks from Gina.

I brought the Double Click speed there all the way to the left a few days ago and it made no difference, it still does it. Now if I click on an email just ONE time slowly to highlight it for deletion, it opens the email up. Same with FontBook. One slow click opens the font on the right "page" but it also launches a font file. I think this $%*# thing is crazy and I'm gonna have to call Ghostbusters!

  • Trackpad is working very well but my usb mouse acts too slow and erratically?

I tried all the usb plugs and different types of mouses but it acts erratically and slow specially when i use couple softwares at the same time. Trackpad works perfectly even though i use couple softwares. Can someone help pls?

Your mouse must be the Mighty mouse and in that case the likely problem is the scroll wheel.  This tends to get clogged up with all manner of detritus picked up from a desk.  Here is a link showing how to approach cleaning it.

  • 2 New iMac 1.83's  - 4th button on mouse acting bizzare on both computers!

I just brought home and set up 2 brand new 17" iMacs, 1.83 intel based. I have had to turn off the 4th button on both of these computers because the 4th button (side "pinch" buttons on the mouse) randomly act as if someone is pressing them - even when I just move the cursor across the screen or sometimes when the mouse is setting still. Both computers do this although one is worse than the other.
    Any others experiencing this?
Is it the mouse? A system problem?
    Any help would be appreciated

It's almost certainly not a problem with the Macs. I've had the same problem with both of my wired Mighty Mouses on both my PowerBook and my Intel iMac. It's the mouse, not the computer. Interestingly, my wireless Mighty Mouse seems to have much better side buttons which don't trigger randomly.

  • My G5 2.0 acting really crazy. What should I test to see what's wrong?

A year or more ago I had a problem with my 2.0 G5 not starting and fans going into TURBO mode. After MUCH research I thought my board failed and after going back and forth with Apple about them covering the repair even though it was out of warranty they agreed. I took it to a local shop (which Apple paid for) and it turned out to be nothing but my video card needing to be re-seated. Maybe 6 months later the same problem happened so I opened the computer up and removed and replace anything and everything I could see and it worked.
Now to my current issue, for starters...I'm not sure when but at some point semi-recently I stopped hearing the chime sound when I start the computer. No big deal as the computer seemed to work perfectly fine in every other way. And then two weeks ago I was watching a movie on Quicktime and the movie sputtered, the audio got crackly and metallic sounding and the computer FROZE. I had to force a shut down with the power button on the front of the computer. I restarted and everything seemed fine. I went back to the movie and in no time, same thing. When I tried to restart I got the black screen and fans in turbo mode again. I opened up the machine, did the same re-seating thing to everything and tried to start again, no go. I resigned to the fact I would need to take it in to have it checked out but I got busy in the last week or so, so it sat in the kitchen. Today I decided to try again. I hooked it up, turned it on and it seems like everything is working fine.
So no my question, what should I do know? Is there some sort of test I can run on the computer to see if anything is running funky? What would you suggest I do?
Thanks so much for your help!
    D

OK, since my last post video has been fine. I still a problem starting the machine when it's turned off (black screen, fans go into TURBO mode). At one point it wouldn't start so I unplugged everything and was determiend to take it to The Apple Store and have them look at it. The computer sat in my kitchen for a week or two because I was busy but the day I decided to finally take it in I thought 'Let me just give it another try'. It fired right up so I decided to just not turn it off. It worked fine.
Two night ago, I plugged something in to the front usb jack and it wouldn't recognize it. Never showed up so I unplugged and external jack from the rear USB and the new device worked. When I was through using it I went to plug the previous device in and it wouldn't recognize it (at least not in the time frame I gave it which should have been long enough). I tried a restart and I got the Turbo fans so I took it into the Apple store two night ago. They called me today to say they think it's either the logic board or the processor. Apple told me a year ago they thought it was the logic board but another place saw it and said all they needed to do was reseat the video card. The computer worked flawlessly for months after. When it acted up I would open the computer and reseat everything I could see.. usually this worked.
Can someone please tell me what they think is wrong with this thing? Advice? A processor is $375 and a board is $500+. I've been thinking of getting a laptop but I don't want to just dump this if I can save it. Is it worth putting that much money into? Can I get the stuff cheaper and do it myself? What is the resale value of this thing with either a bad processor or a bad board?
    Thanks!!

  • Is it possible to use *only* voice control - no keyboard or mouse at all?

Short story, hope you can bear with me.
I have a client who was using Windows for years. He has some disability that means he really can't use a mouse or keyboard. He has been using Dragon Naturall Speaking for about 5-7 years *on Windows*. He also has a Wacom tablet, but uses it sparingly.
About 6 months ago, he was having problems and was fed up with the problems he was having on his Windows machine. He called me and said "That's it. I'm going to Mac." He bought an iMac the next day, about two weeks before Lion was released. He had also purchased Dragon Dictate for Mac.
I set it all up, installed it and he was ready to start training Dragon.
A few months later, he calls and says, "I need to install Windows on my Mac because the Dragon Dictate for Mac is useless. I've spoken to them and they admit that there are several things you just can't do. Like moving the mouse." I think he means things like dragging an item into another folder, or drawing a box around several items on the desktop in order to trash them or copy them or drag them into an email as an attachment, etc. I keep asking him to be more specific, but all I can really get is that It. Can't. Be. Done. On. A. Mac.
And that, of course, really makes my skin crawl. I mean, come on, it's a Mac. They have *great* features for Accessibility. Surely, this must be a solved problem.
But, I have looked. I looked at the additions in Lion. I looked at the literature for Dragon. I have tried to do it myself on my computer. So far, I'm stumped.
I understand that there might be a learning curve, such as learning to say *where* you want something to be dragged to, instead of actually dragging it there visually. "Move selected document to Documents" and so on. But, I'm still hard pressed to find a way to do *every*thing (or a 99+%) using only voice control.
Does *any*one have any ideas, suggestions, thoughts, solutions?
His solution? He bought a used Windows computer today. I've copied (again) all his data from his iMac back to the Windows PC and installed Dragon Naturally Speaking, etc.
Surely, this can't be the only solution. There *must* be a way to do this on the Mac. Right?
    Thanks.

    Hi again,
I checked the Bios of my neighbors A100, so he has no option for Wake-on-Keyboard, too. I think its not implemented in that bios.
If this helps you: try the latest bios for that machine, maybe the implemented that option in a newer version.

  • [SOLVED] Mouse Acting Up When Using Cinnamon In Non-Root Accounts

I have recently installed Arch linux on my computer, alongside Ubuntu and Windows. I installed cinnamon and xorg from the official repositories, and was happy with the experience. However, I wanted to transition from a root account to a normal user account, because certain software (e.g. Chrome) refuses to run under root. So, I created my user, home directory, and password, and was able to login. I copied my .xinitrc from my root home directory to my normal user accounts' home directory. The contents were this:
    exec gnome-session-cinnamon
So, I type startx on the command line, expect everything to work normally, and I find that my mouse is not working properly:
    1. I am unable to drag windows around
    2. Applications with a scroll bar automatically scroll down to the bottom of page, and you can't scroll back up again
    3. I cannot click anything on the sidebar of the cinnamon menu (which contains things like logoff and shutdown, so I had to kill the x server)
However, when logged in on root, none of this happens. At first, I thought this problem was due to me using a display manager (I used gdm and slim). This, however, is not the case. There isn't much out there on the internet for the problem I have, and I assume that this doesn't happen very often. What I did find, however, was to install the following packages:
    sudo pacman -S xf86-input-evdev
    sudo pacman -S xf86-input-mouse
The problem was still not fixed. I do not have an xorg.conf, but I do have a 50-vmmouse.conf in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d (I don't know if that's helpful, though):
    Section "InputClass"
        Identifier    "vmmouse"
        MatchIsPointer    "on"
        MatchTag    "vmmouse"
        Driver        "vmmouse"
    EndSection
Edit: I have a (I think) slightly more useful file: 10-evdev.conf in the same directory:
    # Catch-all evdev loader for udev-based systems
    # We don't simply match on any device since that also adds accelerometers
    # and other devices that we don't really want to use. The list below
    # matches everything but joysticks.
    Section "InputClass"
            Identifier "evdev pointer catchall"
            MatchIsPointer "on"
            MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
            Driver "evdev"
    EndSection
    Section "InputClass"
            Identifier "evdev keyboard catchall"
            MatchIsKeyboard "on"
            MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
            Driver "evdev"

    Section "InputClass"
            Identifier "evdev touchpad catchall"
            MatchIsTouchpad "on"
            MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
            Driver "evdev"
    EndSection
    Section "InputClass"
            Identifier "evdev tablet catchall"
            MatchIsTablet "on"
            MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
            Driver "evdev"
    EndSection
    Section "InputClass"
            Identifier "evdev touchscreen catchall"
            MatchIsTouchscreen "on"

I have fixed it! After my mouse started automatically moving to the left side of the screen, even when logged in as root, I thought I would have to go back to Ubuntu, but I was able to read another forum thread about someone who was having the same issue (about the mouse moving left), and said that when he unplugged his joystick, everything worked. I realized that I had a joystick, so I unplugged mine and now everything is working like a charm!

  • Left clicking mouse acts as if I'm right clicking, and comes up with right click menu?

Hi I was wondering whether anyone could help me with this, I've had this problem for a week or so now and it's beginning to get frustrating.
I have a newish iMac, bought in January, and I've been having this problem the last week or so, where when I left click something, it acts as if I am right clicking it and it comes up with the right click menu. I has happened mostly while on the internet (chrome), but also when I'm just on my desktop, but less often.
It only happens every so often, and rights itself after a couple of minutes. What could be causing this, and how do I stop it?
This is my first ever post on here, so I do apologise if I have been vague or I have posted this question in the wrong section, I am also new to macs (well since January).
The mouse I am using is a dell wired mouse, a couple of years old, which I just plugged in without the need of installing software etc.
Many thanks for any help in advance.

    Hello & welcome!
No worries, you did great for a 1st post, & this is generally a friendly place.
It sounds light it's the Mouse button from here, to test it...
Go to System Preferences > Mouse, change the Primary button to the Right button... does the Right button ever do that now as the left button?

  • Mouse acts weird

I have been having problems with my mouse for a long while now and have not gotten around to trying to fix it. I hope today I can
My mouse....is weird. Let me expand. Aside from the scroll button not scrolling down (which I have seen previous posts on, and intend to use), the pointer gets dragged across the screen randomly when I have not moved the mouse. If I am reading a website and move my mouse to scroll down, the pointer will drag it self rapidly to a random edge of the screen. Sometimes it starts at the top left (and with my dock at the left hand side) will drag itself across each icon on my dock and come to a hault. It is during this time that I lose temporary control over it until it comes to a stop at an edge of the screen.
Additionally, if I am moving the mouse to toggle between windows, the window will drag itself out of screen shot. I figure that this is some sort of "cool trick" the windows can do, but it is very frustrating when it happens frequently and on its own will. Is there anyway to disable this feature (if it is a feature at all)?
Anyway, I have no idea how to fix these problems and have come to the uneducated conclusion that I might have a virus. I hope that someone can help me with this problem as it is very frustrating. Thank you

Have you checked in System Preferences>Universal Access>Mouse that the Mouse Keys are disabled?
If you have a Mighty Mouse, you can clean it by using the following method:
Use a clean lint-free cloth lightly moistened with water. Wipe the ball and the surrounding area, making sure to rotate the ball itself to ensure complete coverage. If the scrolling feels rough or if the scroll ball isn't scrolling up, down, or side-to-side, hold the mouse upside-down and roll the ball vigorously while cleaning it to help dislodge any particles that may have collected on the internal hardware.
