Mouse alignment in flash-based objects is completely wrong

Since I installed FF 8.0 I keep having this problem: whenever I try to use a flash-based object (game, YouTube video etc.), there seems to be a problem with the alignment of the mouse: the position of the pointer in the object frame is different then in the normal window, which means that it's really difficult to click, as the game/video only recognizes the alignment of the mouse in the window and not the "virtual" pointer in the game. Previously, in FF 7, I didn't have any problem with this at all; I tried re-installing Adobe Flash Player, but it didn't work.
Any idea of how to fix this?

Try to disable hardware acceleration.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.

  • Flash freezes (halts/hangs) when using SLC FastForward flash based product. Help!

    I'm using Windows XP SP3 - Chrome Version 23.0.1271.97 m, Firefox 17.0.1.  - i7 Q Core 3.4 Ghz, 4 Gb DDR 3, AMD Radeon HD 6452 (Video Card) : The screen seems to completely lock up with no response from the HID (Keyboard, Mouse). I have to restart the computer, sometimes it will let me restart the browser. I'll be using the product for several minutes and the computer locks up. It mainly occurs in Chrome and am wondering; since it's a peppered version of Flash that it's requiring more resources from the video card (512mb) it's locking the system up. Anyone have ideas why flash would be failing/freezing during the use of this product? The symptoms and behavior are similar to those that occur when using other flash based products such as YouTube. Any one have any ideas?

    the next time it happens, post your logs. /var/log/Xorg.0.log would be one of things to look at. Check your CPU usage at that time. See what process or processes are taking most of the CPU cycles and/or memory and other resources.

  • Browsers crashing presumably due to evil Flash-based content + updates?!

    I haven't had a problem with flash-based content until a couple days ago, when I installed a bundle of software updates, including 10.5.7. Since then, I have tried to access flash based content, such as pandora internet radio, youtube videos, and the standard view of gmail. On Opera, Safari, and Firefox, (all in which flash-based content worked before) I was left with the spinning rainbow of grief!
    I have disabled the plugins for Shockwave Flash, which allows me to get around but denies me the ability to view videos or listen to music, which frankly is pretty ridiculous. So I proceeded to find some other means for me to have access without the spinning wheel of horror!
    So I uninstalled the Flash 10 that I had, and installed and older Flash version: MAC 9,0,47,0
    Now, I enabled the Shockwave Flash plugin, and I am able to view videos on youtube and google video. However, I am not able to listen to music on Myspace (claims I need the newest version 10), Pandora, or Gmail in standard view. So...the spinning wheel strikes again.
    I am completely frazzled, and have read countless articles, each leading me nowhere, but more frustrated with Apple and their products. I have come to the conclusion that the browser, nor the sites are the problem.
    The problem originates either from Macromedia Flash, OR the Software Update bundle Apple insisted that I install. I have a suspicion it's the latter. I know other people have been having similar problems with their Macbooks.
    I've also noticed that Expose and Spaces are having very sluggish response times.
    I'm looking for a solution, if anyone has found one.

    I'm experiencing the exact same thing. I think the problem here is the 'Debugger() was called!' line in the console. For some inexplicable reason, the production release of the Flash 10 plugin has a debugger call left in it, and so Flash throws to the debugger. The call doesn't seem to be ignored, but the browser just blocks waiting for the return of a debugger that isn't there.
    I'm not sure how Adobe managed to leave this debugger call in the production release of the plugin, nor why the browsers are attempting to throw to the debugger in binaries that are not being run under debugging. I would assume the debugger calls would just be ignored when the app is not being debugged. I'm a developer and I have Xcode installed on my machine, so maybe that has something to do with it.
    So, I don't have a solution. I do remember having this problem before a while ago, for the exact same reason, and at some point it went away. (Presumably when Adobe released a new version of the plugin that removed the debugger call.)
    By the way, I really wish posts on this site that make any reference whatsoever to repairing permissions would be filtered out. You have to wade through a 10:1 ratio of posts for absolutely any problem on this site that excoriate people for not repairing permissions before posting, versus posts with actual useful advice. If they guy above had just read the original post he may have seen what's going on. Instead he just ran a pattern match for 'repair permissions' against the post, didn't see a match, and pasted in his useless boilerplate about repairing permissions.

  • Firefox does not show Flash based Soundcloudplayer after embedding

    Hi There,
    I have some problems with embedding from flash based content because firefox does not show the embedded content.
    Last week and the time before everything went fine but now the Flash based player of Soundcloud doesn't work anymore.
    I've tried to embed my soundcloudplayers via div tag on my nobleprofile, full code:
    <pre><nowiki><div>
    <object width="390" height="220" type="application/ x-shockwave-flash" data="http://player.soundcloud.com/player.swf?url=http%3A%2F%2Fsoundcloud.com%2Fmanuel-turobin%2Fsets%2Fmanuel-turobin-fancy-a-swift-one-before-the-show&amp;show_comments=true&amp;auto_play=false&amp;show_playcount=true&amp;show_artwork=true&amp;color=c0ff00">
    <param name="movie" value="http://player.soundcloud.com/player.swf?url=http%3A%2F%2Fsoundcloud.com%2Fmanuel-turobin%2Fsets%2Fmanuel-turobin-fancy-a-swift-one-before-the-show&amp;show_comments=true&amp;auto_play=false&amp;show_playcount=true&amp;show_artwork=true&amp;color=c0ff00" />
    <param name="wmode" value="transparent" />
    <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" />
    <param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" />
    </object>
    </div>
    </nowiki></pre>
    If I use the "data" URL I can see the player but I dont know why there are problems for a week with that embedding?!
    Thanks for any help!

    I notice a space in type="application/ x-shockwave-flash" in not working flash objects.
    Firefox also needs the movie name specified via a data attribute in the object tag instead of via the param tag. With those changes applied you should see the Flash animations (works for me).
    <pre><nowiki><object data="http://www.residentadvisor.net/flash/dj-widget/dj.swf"
    type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="390" height="454"></nowiki></pre>

  • ISight Camera not working of flash based sites even after adobe update.

    Hi there everyone. Hope you can help me out.
    I've been trying to use my webcam on chatroulette, which as i take it is a flash based site, and the isight camera would not work.
    So I downloaded the adobe flashplayer upgrade, hoping to fix this problem.
    Now when i go to the site, the isight light turns green, but then safari crashes. And the only options i have are to try again, or send an error report.
    ( both of which I've done )
    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated in this matter.
    Thanks so much.
    Jan.

    Adobe strongly recommends that you first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller:
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157
    Follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing.
    Repair permissions and restart your computer after the installation is completed.
    Was any of the above done?

  • Why do I have to select "continue allowing" every time I visit certain sites in order to be able to type into flash based form fields?

    Why do I have to select "continue allowing" every time I visit certain sites in order to be able to type into flash based form fields?
    See attached image for reference to what button I am referring to. Until i hit the "continue allowing" button I can not type into the form fields. I have tried removing and reinstalling flash. refreshing firefox, and clearing cache and cookies, and deleting the permissions.sqlite file. Nothing has worked. This issue just started happening a few days ago. Please let me know what I might be able to do to fix this.

    That full page including the form is a Flash object.
    I didn't see this doorhanger opening when I tried the URL in a new profile.
    Did you previously created an exception or is the default selected if you check the permissions for the Flash plugin?
    You can inspect and manage the permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab:
    *Click the "[[Site Identity Button|Site Identity Button]]" (globe/padlock) on the location/address bar
    *Click "More Information" to open "Tools > Page Info" with the Security tab selected
    You can go to the Permissions tab (Tools > Page Info > Permissions)
    Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
    *Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
    *Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

  • SMIL File / Flash Video Object / Netstream

    Hi all!
    I have build a streaming video player bassed on the flash Video Object and netstream. The company that provides the streaming have now gone over to Dynamic Streaming and uses SMIL files. Usually this is not a problem if i had used a FLVPlayback component, But now that my player is a Video Object i just can't get it to work.
    I don't want to rebuild the entire player based on FLVPlayback component since the current play have many functions.
    Have anyone built a Dynamic player based on Video object? Anyone that can help me with this?
    Oh yeay. I use AS2  I know i'm going over to AS3 but this player in built in as2
    Looking forward to see how this can be solved

    Hi,
    I don't think there is a direct way of using SMIL files with Video Object like it can be used with FLVPlayback component.
    Also its much easier to accomplish dynamic streaming using AS3 than AS2.
    With the current AS2 implementation you might have to parse the contents of smil file store the details of different bitrate media available in the FMS app.
    Some amount of coding would be needed to leverage the QoS metrics which can be accessed from NetStream object when Flash Player 10 is used. And then based on what the metrics indicate pick an appropriate bitrate file to switch to.
    This article mentions how to use AS2 for dynamic streaming : http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashmediaserver/articles/dynstream_actionscript.html
    Hoping to see if anyone else have tried to do it already so that it may prove helpful to you.
    In case you are looking to port your video player to AS3 , here are some useful links:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashmediaserver/articles/dynstream_advanced_pt1.html
    Now there is also an Open Source Media Framework which you can leverage to build media players easily.

  • When loading multiple profiles, Flash based pages crash the last launched profile

    I launch multiple profiles to load groups of web pages. Anywhere from 1-4 profiles in the morning (but not all at once). If one profile is completely loaded and has flash elements, when I launch the next profile that has flash based elements, the last profile launched will crash that instance of Firefox. This did not happen in Beta 11, but does happen in Beta 12 or RC1.
    I am running Win7 64-bit with the latest version of Flash (10.2.152.32). 24GB of RAM, Dual Xeon's, Intel SSD.

    If this isn't support then why oh why does Firefox have a Profile Manager to do this?

  • Flash Tree Object & node list

    Hi All,
    Unsure if this is a noodle scratcher or undoable!
    Either way, does anyone know of a way when using the 'tree'
    flash component in Director to get the component to supply a list
    of some sort back to director.
    I'm adding & subtracting branches to the Object
    successfully, but I figure it must know whats where I just need it
    to tell Director so I can manipulate it out to a XML file !!
    Cheers

    Alright, this is a long one. Make a Director file based on
    the following and when it starts it’ll open the xmlDoc.xml
    XML file, parse it into a Flash XML object and assign that object
    as the dataProvider for a Flash component Tree. Then you can select
    a planet node from the Tree, enter text into the Flash component
    text field, and click the Flash button to add a moon to the
    selected planet node with the entered text as its label. The button
    also saves whatever XML makes up the tree to the xmlDoc.xml XML
    file by calling the saveXml() function. You could have whatever
    event you want call the save function.
    To start, drag a Flash Tree component to the stage as sprite
    1, a Flash TextInput component to the stage as sprite 2 and a Flash
    Button component to the stage as sprite 3. Make sure to do
    Modify>Movie>Xtras… and add the FileIo.x32 Xtra so
    it’ll work if you make a projector.
    Add this script to Frame one:
    function exitFrame(me)
    ///// make Fileio obj, Flash XML obj, populate Tree
    // Fileio
    var fileObj = new xtra("fileio");
    fileObj.openFile(_movie.path + "xmlDoc.xml",0);
    var xmlString = fileObj.readFile();
    fileObj.closeFile();
    fileObj = null;
    // Flash XML obj
    var fTree = sprite(1);
    var fXmlObj = fTree.newObject("XML");
    fXmlObj.ignoreWhite = true;
    fXmlObj.parseXML(xmlString);
    // populate Tree
    fTree.dataProvider = fXmlObj;
    ///// make button listerner to handle clicks
    var fButton = sprite(3);
    var fButtonEvt = fButton.newObject("Object");
    fButton.addEventListener("click",fButtonEvt);
    fButton.setCallback(fButton, "click",
    symbol("fButtonClick"), "fButtonEvtScript");
    Make this Movie Script, name it fButtonEvtScript:
    function fButtonClick(me,evtObj)
    var fTree = sprite(1);
    var fText = sprite(2);
    // determine if a Tree node is selected
    try
    String(fTree.selectedNode.attributes.label);
    // execute if node selected is planet
    if (fTree.selectedNode.nodeName == "planet")
    var newNode = fTree.newObject("XMLNode",1,"moon");
    // make node lable text field if text present, else default
    text
    if (fText.text == "")
    newNode.attributes.label = "Default Moon";
    } else {
    newNode.attributes.label = fText.text;
    // add new moon node
    fTree.selectedNode.addTreeNode(newNode);
    saveXml();
    } else {
    _player.alert("Must select planet node");
    } catch (errObj) {
    // alert no node
    _player.alert("No Node Selected");
    function saveXml()
    var fTree = sprite(1);
    // make string to save
    var xmlString = "<?xml version=\"1.0\"
    encoding=\"iso-8859-1\" ?>\n"
    xmlString += fTree.dataProvider.firstChild.toString();
    // save file
    var fileObj = new xtra("fileio");
    fileObj.openFile(_movie.path + "xmlDoc.xml",0);
    fileObj["delete"].call(fileObj);
    fileObj.createFile(_movie.path + "xmlDoc.xml");
    fileObj.openFile(_movie.path + "xmlDoc.xml",0);
    fileObj.writeString(xmlString);
    fileObj.closeFile();
    fileObj = null;
    Finaly add this script to any Frame after Frame one; I used
    Frame 10.
    function exitFrame(me)
    _movie.go(_movie.frame);
    Here’s the XML file:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="iso-8859-1" ?>
    <star label="Sol">
    <planet label="Mercury" />
    <planet label="Venus" />
    <planet label="Terra">
    <moon label="Luna" />
    </planet>
    <planet label="Mars">
    <moon label="Phobos" />
    <moon label="Deimos" />
    </planet>
    <planet label="Jupiter">
    <moon label="Callisto" />
    <moon label="Ganymede" />
    <moon label="Europa" />
    <moon label="Io" />
    </planet>
    <planet label="Saturn">
    <moon label="Titan" />
    </planet>
    <planet label="Uranus" />
    <planet label="Neptune" />
    <planet label="Pluto">
    <moon label="Charon" />
    </planet>
    </star>
    Sorry I got slack with the code comments, but I reckon you
    can figure out what’s going on. I figure this’ll give
    you a good start on what you’re trying to accomplish. I
    strongly suggest checking out the LiveDocs for Director regarding
    Flash and Components and Flash regarding Flash XML, XMLNode and the
    Components Language Reference. Remember though, things have changed
    since the Flash 8 Asset Xtra, so some of the documentation is out
    of date.

  • How can I pubish SWF interactive magazine to flash based website? It's not working!

    I hope someone can help me launch my first interactive magazine (SWF) to our website with ID 5. Okay, my hard copy mag came out great so then I started on the interactive edition. Everything was going swell with adding 3 short videos ( FLV  ) and creating 3 slide shows. When I previewed it by exporting to SWF I could preview it in my browser fine. Page curls, fade in words (although the “hide until animated” options only works in two out of about 7 instances. (same settings) file:///C:/Users/lauralaptop/Documents/NEW%20PUBLICATION%20QUARTERLY%20JOURNAL%202011%20se pt%202/LIFE%20apr-may-june%202011%201st%20issue%20INTERACTIVE%20TRYOUT%20Aug%2031%204pm.ht ml
    I then followed instructions from another Adobe exercise, exported it to Flash, went to Publish Settings, but of course when I pressed “publish” I didn’t get the same result as the teacher…I got an error message about text. I searched a forum with the same message I got and saw that making sure my text setting was set for Classic, solved someone else’s problem. So I did and was able to “publish”. But now, when I open either the SWF or HTML file, it’ just rapidly repeating the 12 pages in my file in a loop!
    file:///C:/Users/lauralaptop/Desktop/LIFE%20apr-may-june%202011%201st%20issue%20INTERACTIV E%20TRYOUT%20Aug%2031%204pm.html
    I have spent most of the summer self teaching myself InDesign CS5 (not easy!) and am excited to be able to put out an interactive SWF file that can be opened in a Flash player through our Flash based website. I feel like I’m just inches away for launch but now I’m getting frustrated. Isn’t this going to be possible?
    Also, when I publish it in Flash, it creates a SWF file AND an HTML file. But on our website, I have only one option to make a link to a document OR an outside link to open a file. How does that work?
    Many thanks for whoever can help me out here. This was supposed to be a spring issue. Had to change it to summer and now I guess it’s a fall launch!

    Thank you for your quick reply, Rob. Well, i can't open the link you gave me to mysite (got a 404 error), could you resend it?
    Originally, I exported the file to SWF (player) and just tried to link that file from our flash based website. It opens fine, page curls fine, slide shows fine, but when you click on the photos with videos, page 5 (father and baby) and two others, the image disappears and only a white comes up to fill that area.
    http://scpres.org/#/media-sermons-online/our-publications. Could you go to this link on our website to see what I mean? Go to the NEWSBREAK TRANSFORMS and click on the Life, Stories of Transformation.
    Rob, here is where i have very limited knowledge: As I said we use a flash based (read very user friendly) web hosting company. When I am in the back end to upload the swf file, I have only one option  - "attach a video, attach a document, attach a link" so how would I upload a "folder" with more than one item to the server?
    I thought it would be considered a video since the SWF file says SWF movie, but when I when i try to upload as a video, it doesn't come up as importable. (am i sounding really stupid?) Maybe I should admit that yes, I'm an ID5 newbie AND yes,  I'm no spring chicken but I have been working in CS2,3,4 for several years and now 5 and am quite proficient in the create aspect of Adobe products. It's just now the technical part about how to actually get my  in work published to the site.There isn't anyone else in my company able to help me so I have to reach out to this forum!
    I love ID and this is just my first effort but I'm looking forward to creating many more interactive magazines for my company.
    Thanks for any help.

  • Adobe Configurator and deprecated Flash-based panel support in Adobe CC products

    Does Configurator 4.0 (or Configurator 3) support the creation of HTML5-based panels?
    I received the following email from Adobe:
    Photoshop CC, starting in the middle of 2014, will remove support for Flash-based extensions. All other Creative Cloud products have already marked Flash-based panel support as deprecated at this time, meaning no future enhancements or bug fixes will be coming for Flash-based extensions.
    The current version of Photoshop CC already includes support for a new type of HTML5 based panel. We are currently working on a new version of Adobe Extension Builder designed specifically to support the creation of these HTML5 based panels.  You can download a free preview here: http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/extensionbuilder3/.
    Details about developing HTML5 extensions for Photoshop as well as for other Creative Cloud products are available in the Extension Builder pre-release program here: https://adobeformscentral.com/?f=6V6IgvE0yLQQ7bgadxNXaw .   You can also join the Photoshop developers' prerelease program for details specific to Photoshop.  If you're interested, please let me know and I will get you setup.
    Will the panels created by Configurator 4.0 work in PS CC after the middle of 2014 when support for Flash-based extensions is removed from Photoshop CC?  For that matter, will the panels created in Configurator 3.0 work in PS CC after the middle of 2014?

    I've carefully read all the posts here and would like to give my feedback on the whole question. I'm a professional retoucher and a teacher as well, and during my professional carrer I've built dozens of panels.
    I do really take advantage of boosting my productivity with any customized panel, as automation is something that adds speed, reliability and dramatically reduce errors during repetitive tasks. Therefore, I can't live without it.
    Now, I  understand why Adobe wants to move towards HTML 5, but please give us the ability to keep our work at the same level of efficiency we currently have. Photoshop is not for amateurs, it's a professional software. And professionals must keep their productivity, for sure they can't afford any loss of it, especially in these times!
    Moving from Flash to HTML 5  means rebuilding all the existing panels from scratch: how much this will cost to us in terms of time (and money) if we could have an HTML 5 version of Configurator? And how much, if we don't have a tool like Configurator at all? Three times, ten times as much? Maybe Adobe knows the answer, not me, I'm not a coder. But I'd like to know this answer.
    Further, picture this: I've taught several classes for at least  five intercontinental companies on how to build actions and organize them into panels for improving their productivity. Every time the response was the same: BOOM!
    They had a huge speed improvement in their daily workflows, and started to build dozens of panels by themselves for any possibile use. It was like opening a Pandora's box for them (their words).
    Every one who attended my classes, have taught the same topic inside their company and the reaction was always the same. So now, in every company in which I've taught building panels and actions, there are hundreds of panels for many different uses, all over the world. Of course, as 100% of them were specifically built for internal use, they shared the panels among them, but not outside their company.
    Many of them who are now mid-advanced users, have written to me asking how they could keep their panels working correctly in the next CC version of Photoshop. I have no solution for them, unless many of them become coders. That's a bad answer, I must admit, but no way out right now.
    Their reply to me was very straight: "well, we won't upgrade any copy of Photoshop until we can keep our panels working correctly for sure. For us is much more important being productive and efficient than upgrading to the latest version, if this means to lower our performance, no doubt."
    Adobe wanted to integrate all their softwares into the Creative Cloud. So far so good, I'm for it. But when you decide to integrate everything saying to the world that "it's for the sake of a better productivity", then you must really integrate them. Otherwise people will think that it was only a commercial move. So why we can't build panels for the applications inside Muse, for example? It was introduced to allow people to build  websites quickly and efficiently using HTML 5, taking care about the layout instead of investing too much time in coding.
    Exactly what Configurator allowed to do. Focus on the result with minimal time cost, aka money cost.
    World is running faster, therefore we need to work faster too. And without Configurator we won't. I can't disagree with all the people that won't upgrade Photoshop, if this means that they'll work slower because they can't use their panels carefully made by themselves. Photoshop is a tool for producing ideas and other nice stuff, like any software. The faster it is, the most people will like it, the better will sold. A simple truth. Think about what happened to Apple Finalcut ProX and how many users switched to Premiere. Photoshop has no competitors except new versions of itself.
    And this does not apply only the CC users. Look at the bigger picture: how many users still using CS6 with all their fully working panels won't upgrade to CC if they know they'll reduce their productivity?
    Think about the answer. Carefully.

  • Access to a logged-in user's information via a session based object

    I am in the process of putting together a design for the security layer of a given
    application I am working on. The requirements for authentication demand that
    the framework take advantage of digital certificates and username/password verification.
    The digital certificate end is relatively straightforward in terms of configuration
    within WebLogic 6.1. I am planning on implementing a RDBMS security realm for
    the username/password verification piece and again, from the documentation I have
    seen, it seems relatively straightforward in setting that up as well.
    The question I do have is in regards to once the user has successfuly logged in
    to the application. Is there anyway to manage and have access to a set of user
    info or credentials once they successfuly log in - aka some sort of session based
    object that WebLogic Server facilitates? Or is this something that will have
    to be explicitly built from our end if requirements do arise that necessitate
    user information to be readily available as such?
    Any feedback would be helpful....thanks!!

    Reset the page zoom on pages that cause problems: '''View > Zoom > Reset''' (Ctrl+0 (zero); Cmd+0 on Mac)

    You can try if it works if you disable OOPP (Out-Of-Process-Plugins) for Flash
    You can set the prefs dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.* to false on the about:config page to disable the plugin-container process.
    dom.ipc.plugins.enabled (currently false by default)
    dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npswf32.dll (Flash)
    To open the ''about:config'' page, type '''about:config''' in the location (address) bar and press the Enter key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.
    If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.

  • Using XML-based object structures to represent data in code/at run-time

    Hello,
    I have quite a "high level" question which has be bothering me for some time, and I haven't found the subject tackled in any books. I believe J2SE/J2EE is not an important divide here.
    Lets say I want to develop a J2SE game application with two programs: a "level designer", and a "level viewer", and I want to store the level files in an XML format.
    My question, and I use this example only to try and illustrate it, is:
    when coding the level designer or viewer, is it reasonable to use an XML-based object hierarchy for representing a level in code/at run-time, i.e. using the standard Java DOM APIs? Or should one (as I would have done before XML came along) develop a set of classes much closer to modelling the real form of a level, and then add a means to convert those objects to/from to XML format?
    This second option of course I would use/would have used if I wasn't thinking about XML, but isn't it sometimes easier to just read in an XML file into a DOM representation and just use the data straight out of that structure, rather than go through the bother of parsing the XML into a set of unrelated objects defined by a different family of classes? What shapes your decision here? And if the second option is best, what is the easiest way of converting to/from the XML?
    Thank you for any advice.
    Greg

    Hi Christian,
    Can I ask: what about if your domain was quite 'close' to an object/DOM representation of XML?
    For instance, what if a game operated by acting out a theatrical script, a spoken conversation, between two characters, perhaps somehow influenced at points by the user, and a particular level was just a different script for the characters.
    One could imagine that the object representation of this would in the end be quite similar to how you'd represent XML, i.e. like a tree of nodes, where each node was a line from the script, and some nodes were a decision point where different nodes could be chosen from.
    Would you still want to avoid using XML-based classes to represent the underlying 'game', or is there a point where you would 'give it' to the similarity and use existing XML structures directly?
    Thank you for any advice
    Greg
