Mouse Availability for Old Macs

Does anyone make a mouse anymore for old macs? I have an old system, with an 7.5.1 OS and a standard keyboard, that still runs fine. I had been using a Kensington "Mouse-in-a-box" Model #642068. But now it needs to be replaced, and I cannot find a compatible mouse. The current Kensington Mouse in a Box for older macs apparently only fits into a deluxe keyboard. Does anyone know where I can buy a compatible mouse?

1) Thrift stores. Usually there will be a rack or something with a bunch of old mice, most of the time there will be at least one ADB mouse. You may have to try more than one store, or go back from time to time.
2) eBay. I did a search for "mouse adb" and there were quite a few listings, not expensive, and some were a mouse and keyboard combination.
3) Here. I bet there are lots of people here who have a spare mouse to share.
4) Did you try bringing your keyboard into the store to try it with the current ADB mouse?

That is a question that you need to contact the developer of the app and ask. Apple is not here to answer your questions. Everyone here is a user of Apple products, we do not have answers to this type of question.

  • Will new batteries be made available for older Mac Books?

I have a Late 2008 Mac Book Pro 15" model. The battery life ***** on this thing. With the announcement of the new models and the new batteries, is Apple going to make the new battery technology available for the older models?
I'm guessing they will not given Apple's history, but I thought I would ask anyway. It sure would be nice to be able to get some decent battery life out of my laptop.
    Thanks.

The newer higher capacity batteries use a different chemistry than the older batteries. There is no real reason that Apple couldn't replace the current battery chemistry with the newer one. However, I wouldn't expect it to happen for another year.
Not quite true. The OP's issue is with battery life, not battery lifespan. The slightly modified chemistry (they are still lithium polymer batteries, so the basic chemistry is the same) and the adaptive charging on the new batteries account for the lifespan of 1000 charge cycles vs. 300-400 charge cycles.
However, the increased battery life (i.e. run time on a full charge) is higher with the new batteries simply because they are physically bigger - 40% bigger, according to Apple. The newer, internal batteries are larger due, in part, to the fact that they are non-removable, meaning space formerly taken up by the battery case and latching mechanism can now be used for the battery itself.
So, although Apple might implement the modified chemistry and the adaptive charging controller in replacement batteries (although I think this is pretty unlikely), there's no way they can make them larger due to the constraints of the machines they are designed for. Therefore, there's no way for Apple to increase the battery life on the older machines.

  • Photo Booth available for older Macs?

    Hi all,
I've recently purchased a MacBook Pro and an iMac, both which have the built-in iSight and Photo Booth. We're having such fun messing around with that, I'm wondering if the software is available for older, iSight-equiped Macs.
    Many thanks.

  • TC not available for one mac

One office mac lost connection to TC, was working fine for quite some time. TC is not available for TM BU and AP utility does not see the device. But TC is & has been working fine for other wired macs and wireless MBP's. Read the threads and can't find any advice. Thanks in advance!

Power down the computer and temporarily connect an ethernet cable from the computer to one of the LAN ports on the TC. Start up the computer and open AirPort Utility to see if it can "see" the TC now.
To get backups restarted again, try the following:
Power down the Time Capsule and wait a few moments, then power it back up.
Now click System Preferences and select Time Machine.
Choose Change Disk and click your Time Capsule to highlight it
    Click Use For Backups.
Backups should continue where they left off

  • Best Mouse out for a Mac?

Hey, whats a good mouse to get for a mac? I don't really like the mighty mouse b/c of its shape. Whats a good mouse for a Mac? I realized that the Mac accuracy and movement acceleration isn't as smooth as a PC, so whats the best mouse out their that works best for a Mac?
    Im thinking about getting this:
Razer - Lachesis Laser Gaming Mouse - Phantom White - RZ01-00170200
The higher the dpi, the better right? Its 4000dpi

    Hi,
I like the Microsoft series wireless of notebook mice. There are several different styles, so you should be able to find one that feels comfortable. Microsoft mice achieve very good battery life. The bluetooth model is very expensive, so I opted for one the less expensive models that uses a USB key for the receiver. When not in use, the key snaps to the bottom of the mouse, which also switches off the mouse electronics to conserve the battery.
I also have a Gyration mouse/keyboard. The Gyration mouse is really cool; it can be used on a table of you can wave it in the air. Waved in air, the Gyration mouse uses accelerometers. It is really handy for use with a video projector.

  • Looking for old Mac game -- War game like EMPIRE DELUXE

In 1984 or so, I played a Mac war game that was very much like Empire Deluxe for the PC. It had units that you would move on a grid-like map. You captured cities and used them to make more units. One of the units was a nuclear bomber. You would click where you wanted to detonate the bomb on the map and the program would ding twice and blot out a space the size of a dime. Later in the game, the size increased to the size of a quarter. The game was played on a Mac +. Anyone know this game?

  • Trade-ins/credits for old Macs

Anyone know of a trade-in and/or credit program for old (very old) macs? Currently, I have the following macs collecting dust (but in perfect working condition with software) and periferals (Monitors 17", 15", keyboards, mice, back up drives, etc. + good video cards):
    Quadra 700
    Powermac 7200
    Power User Clone
    SE30
    Thanks!

We generally recycle pre-G3 computers for parts or scrap, save the memory modules, hard drives if 6 GB or larger, PCI cards, 17 inch and larger monitors if they can be adjusted to acceptable brightness at the middle range of adjustment, a few power supplies if they are 250 watts or more. For PCs, we save Pentium II and above plus the other items. We have a buyer for memory modules who desolders the DIPs and reassembles them on new boards. This assumes that all of these parts are functional. The rest of the computer is disassembled into scrap categories for sale to various material recyclers. Our main motive is to keep this reusable stuff out of the landfill. NOTHING is trashed. Everything is reused or recycled.
With regard to reusability - It is not that old computers are unusable, it is that few people want them. People who can't afford to buy newer machines, don't have the skills needed to make these old machines work when there is little or no technical help.
We get most of our donations from large businesses, school districts and government offices. We collect from all over the state. There is no charge for this service except for CRT monitors.
Some of these older computers have been reassembled using these parts and tested to insure that they work properly. Two weeks ago we shipped out 36 iMacs and 84 PCs along with 15 laser and inkjet printers, about 100 hard drives (for other previously shipped machines and the inevitable failures that will occur and have been erased to DOD standards), and corresponding operating systems, to Guatemala. We also give to senior citizens, disabled, or low-income people. Each volunteer who works 30 hours in the facility earns a free computer, G3 or equivalent, with modem and a printer of some sort.
We have a resale store to sell useable computers, printers, and just about anything that people might want. I price B&W LaserWriters and HP LaserJets at about $20 to $30 with as much memory as I can find that fit them and with as little as 1100 pages thru them. But people want color printers so we don't sell many B&W printers. Our building rent is over $5000 per month and we make that from store sales and selling the clean copper, aluminum, hard plastics separated into 6 types, cables for copper, chassis for steel, break off the gold contacts on circuit boards (lots of gold in them thar boards, several thousand dollars worth every few months), cardboard boxes, paper, power supplies and transformers. CRT monitors are a drain on our income because we have to pay to have them recycled due to the hazardous materials in the tubes. Cliff

  • Homes for old macs?

Does anyone know of a site that buys old macs (or is there a site other than ebay to post them for sale)? I have a keylime ibook and an original Mac LC that are just gathering dust around here.

eBay would be likely to get you the best offer(s).
