Mouse broken

I have had my MacBook (white 1.83Ghz, 1GB RAM, 80GB Hardrive) since July, its my first mac and i just love it! Never going to pc again! Everything had been working fine until the right side of my mouse is broken and u have to push extremely had to make it click and it pushes down further than usual. Now my left side and middle still press down the same, but i have to push hard and sometimes click about 3 times for it to respond. I purchased the apple protection plan (3 years) when i bought my MacBook. Is this covered under the warranty, and can it be fixed for free? Thanks for yor help!

Hi Sportboywp.
It is covered by apple care, but when you bring that to apple store to have it checked, they might examine it first to make sure the damage is by normal usage and not by abused.
But afraid not, if it is under normal usage, there won't be any problem with the warranty.
Good Luck.

  • Is my Mighty Mouse Broken?

    Hi,
I bought my mighty mouse back in April 2006, and It has just decided to stop scrolling downwards. The scroll ball rotates and clicks when moving up, left and right, but when i scroll down, it neither clicks nor scrolls. I have tried cleaning it as shown by Apple, but to no effect.
    Is it broken!?
Thanks in advance for any feedback

    Hi guys,
Thanks for the replies - The first thing I tried was the cleaning procedure, and I have attempted it a few times sinse. I have given the ball a real good scrub, but nothing seems to be doing the trick!
I'll give it one more try, but if all else fails, is it covered for repair / replacement with the 12 month warranty?
    Thanks again

  • Mighty Mouse broken

I know it's not really for this area but I can't find anywhere else. My Mighty Mouse appears to be broken. Or more specifically, the scroll ball. Every so often it won't scroll down and feels really smooth. Those of you who have a MM should know what I mean. Usually the scroll ball has a clicking feel but it isn't and is just smooth. Its really getting annoying cos I cant find anything to fix it with. Can anyone suggest anything? Like if it just needs cleaning or a brand new mouse all together.
    Thanks
    Chris C

It's a well-known problem. I put a splash of switch cleaner (or something similar), onto a couple of layers of tissue, turn the mouse upside down so the trackball is in contact, and give it a good roll-about. If you Google the problem, there are instructions as to how to dismantle your mouse to clean the rollers, but I wouldn't recommend it until you arrive at a "kill or cure" crossroads.

  • Magic Mouse Broken?

I just bought a magic mouse, and I'm not sure if it's broken or if I'm just not using it correctly.
    Problem 1:
I'm swiping one finger across the top of the mouse. The page in my Safari browser moves one page forward when I swipe from right-to-left on the mouse, but the page in my Safari doesn't move one page backwards when I swipe from left-to-right. Nothing happens.
    Problem 2:
I'm trying to right-click on the mouse. I'm using one finger to click the top right corner of the mouse, and the right click funtion isn't working properly.
    Any help is appreciated!

  • Mouse broken, help

I opened my mouse to change the batteries today and the metal strip suddenly pinged out of where it fits. I have tried to fit it back on but it does not seem to grip onto the place where it is supposed to be. Has anyone any ideas as to what I can do ?
    Anne

Glad I came across this discussion, because exactly the same thing happened to my mouse while I was changing batteries the other day. I suspect that it does not just "come off" - that you have to accidentaly catch the end of the strip or something, but once it is off, it does not want to just clip back on. I also experienced the "continuous red light" and the mouse would not work while this was happening. I ended up just using a piece of clear tape, changed the batteries and I was back in business.
That being said, I also consider this mouse to be the worst Apple mouse I have ever used, and that includes the "soap on a rope" that came with the original iMacs. It is jerky no matter what surface you place it on, it chews batteries at an incredible rate, and the cursor keeps wanting to "head for the hills", usually the bottom left corner. I used to love working in drawing programs and I was getting pretty good at fine detail work. With this mouse, that is impossible. I thought the cordless thing would be great, but I am looking for an old Apple Pro USB mouse.

  • Apple Magic Mouse from iMac to PC

Hi there! I'm going to purchase new iMac 2011, but for the first week or two I can't use it for some reason (it's a present and I don't wanna show it). But I got my PC mouse broken so can I use iMac's magic mouse with my PC somehow?

I don't think it will work, here is what Apple says it's requirements are:
    System Requirements
Mac computer with Bluetooth wireless technology
OS X v10.5.8 or later with Wireless Mouse Software Update 1.0* or OS X v10.6.1 or later with Wireless Mouse Software Update 1.0
Existing keyboard and mouse for setup
    Two AA batteries (included)

    Problems:
-laptop's (dell xps 15z) keyboard and mouse not working
    -X broken
I am really stumped here and looking for any help / direction. I am running out of questions to ask, and would appreciate any feedback.
    What I have tried:
    -creating a new modprobe.conf,
    -merging rc.conf.pacnew,
-downgrading to my previous udev, mkinitcpio, and module-init-tools, using the packages found in cache. remade init with
    mkinitcpio -p linux
and keyboard and mouse still did not work
    -merged locale.conf.pacnew
    -merged pacman.conf.pacnew
-traversed almost all of the logs multiple times (have not found a silver bullet, but not positive on what Im looking for..)
Below I have included some notes, my relevant (dates) pacman.log, and what I pulled from dmesg that seemed related to me.

I'm glad that fixed your keyboard.
Good idea about the wiki page. If/when I have time I will add something. Feel free to do so if you have some.
I've not had the computer for long, however the core install boots and works fine, but after updating the keyboard and mouse become unresponsive, so unfortunately from my perspective, one of the updates in the past 4 or 5 months broke it! However, though I've not tried any combinations of boot parameters, the vast majority of live CDs won't even boot without acpi=off (or presumably, only acpi=noirq is actually needed, looking at your tests) so it doesn't look to be Arch specific.
For your X problems, are you using a DE or WM, and how are you logging in? If you can disable the login manager (if present) and start an X session with startx, with say only exec xterm in your ~/.xinitrc that might help pinpoint the issue. If that works, it will unlikely be an X issue, more one of your DE/WM.

Buy a new one.  They are not repairable (to my knowledge).

  • Broken Left Mouse Button

Hi, my Toshiba Laptop button (the left mouse button) suddenly became loose. It's not totally broken or anything, since I'm still able to press on it, but its very loose and I can't click on it when I press it on the top right corner of the button, and it seen like if I don't do anything about it, its going to become worse (get looser or not work anymore). I think somewhere inside the button, something's chipped. I'm still under the standard one year warranty. Does anyone know if the repair for this is covered under warranty? And by the way, there wasn't any accident, the button just got really loose when I pressed it, normally. Thanks for your time.

Any defects in materials or workmanship are covered by the warranty.  More warranty details are available here.

  • Magic Mouse is Broken!

My magic mouse has brand new batteries and was connected, i restarted my Mac and it just stopped working, the light isnt even coming on! this always happens and its really annoying, Please help!

It is not necessarily broken.   There are many problems that arise with batteries from the size to the contacts.   Some batteries are not a precise size for the compartment.   Are you using an Apple charger and Apple batteries?   I believe Duracell are satisfactory too, though in my experience they do not last long.
Suggest you take out the batteries, clean the battery contacts and the contact points inside the mouse with an alcohol based cleaner using a damp, not wet, cotton bud.   Also wipe the sensor.  Leave it for a few minutes, reassemble and turn on the mouse.  If the green light then shows, double click and wait the for the connection confirmation to show.

  • Broken in-built mouse button

Hi there, my trackpad button suddenly stopped working. It seems to have gone really 'sticky' and keeps selecting everything! What can i do to fix this?
    cheers, diana

well if your trackpad is broken you'll have to contact applecare (in case you are still under warranty). Until you get your computer fixed, i suggest you to disactivate your trackpad in menu > system preferences > Keyboard and mouse and use a mouse instead.

  • [SOLVED] Disabling broken mouse button

    Hi all,
I found my mouse button 9 is broken: xev reveals it registers even when not pressed (especially in a naughty day), and my guess is it's the hardware that's stuffed. So, is there a way to tell xorg or whatever to ignore the event? Thanks.

I expect you can use xinput to map that button to nothing.
