Mouse clicks as soon as cursor stops moving

Hi -- maybe I'm being really stupid but just got a new MacBook Pro running OS 10.5.5; when I'm using the trackpad to move the mouse it goes all Windows on me and automatically clicks whenever I stop moving the cursor for a moment -- this is driving me crazy! I've tried to figure out how to stop it but haven't found it so far. Any solution would be greatly appreciated!

Been looking more into it -- seems like I have some kind of "dwell-click" operation happening -- is that standard on Mac OS 10.5.5? If not, anyone know how it got on my system and, more important, how to remove it? I have XP loaded as well that I run off BootCamp, but that couldn't be the cause, could it?
Honestly, this is driving me nuts -- it is as if the computer has a mind of its own. Please help!!

  • Cursor stops moving when I hit a key.

Hello. Whenever I hit a key my cursor stops moving. I read some posts on the forum and one solutions was to go into Synaptics options and do some stuff. But I cant find where that is.
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
This problem can be caused by a touchpad setting that is intended to prevent accidental activation - for example if your palm brushes the touchpad when typing.
You can change this as follows.
Open windows Control Panel and in the top right, next to View by: select 'Large Icons'.  From the new layout, select the Synaptics entry.
The actual option you're looking for will depend on the hardware/software version ( see the example below ), but is usually called 'Palm Check' or Smart Sense' -turn this feature off and apply the changes.

  • Why does the mouse button let go whenever I stop moving?

Any time that I try to drag something I run into this problem. I can start to drag, but if I ever stop moving the mouse, even if I'm still holding the button down, FCP just unclicks the mouse button automatically. Why could this possibly be?

What are all 4 Mighty Mouse buttons mapped to? Starting with left, then right, then scroll ball button, then side buttons. I only ask because it could be possible you are activating a different button when you stop, and the mouse switches to THAT function, thereby letting go of the left click function.

  • How to prevent middle mouse click to move the cursor but still poaste the clipboard ?

This is a linux only issue.
When i'm typing a text editing box, i use the select text/middle click gesture to copy/paste text.
But the middle click not only paste the selected text but move the cursor at the actual mouse position before.
    I don't want this behavior, because :
    1. I work a lot with vim, where you don't mouve the cursor using the mouse, so i must change my habit when i'm using firefox.
    2. When i middle click, event if i put the mouse in the right place, i might mouve it a bit and the text will be pasted on the wrong place
I've been looking in the about:config and the only related option is
    middlemouse.paste;
If i put it to false, the middle click button does not mouve the cursor, nor does it paste.
Any idea how to achieve that ?

I do not find the cursor moving on me if I use middle-click to paste text or url that is in that I highlighted into clipboard. Whether I used my Logitech MX510 or the T-CH!!/T-CL13 trackballs that I use now.
The right-click and copy selection then right-click and paste to paste contents where Caret is method can be more precise though.

hi what can i do if i receive an email with link but when I click the link my mail wont move anymore?

Close the Mail app in the Task Bar and re-launch.
Double-click the Home button to reveal Task Bar. Hold Mail app down for a second or two; tap the minus sign to close app.
If it still doesn't work, try a reset.
Hold the Sleep and Home button down until you see the Apple logo.

  • Is there any easy way to move the cursor in a plot by just a mouse click?

Right now I have to click at the cursor and drag it to the right position. I was wondering if there is an easy way to just do the mouse click to change the cursor (not dragging the cursor). I have only one cursor in the graph.

Assuming that if you click the cursor that you want it to always move to the same position, I think that you could do what you want by calling the cursor's SetPosition method in the graph's CursorMouseDown event.

  • RSI Mouse Clicking Software for Mac

I suffer from RSI and use an old program named MouseTool on my PC which automatically clicks my trackball when it stops moving. Now that I have a Mac Mini is there such a feature/capability built-in to the Mac?

    Good morning,
I use one called MovCaptioner and it's great, easy to use, can do closed or open captions (with Quicktime Pro) and can export titles in .stl format to import to DVD Studio Pro. And not to expensive! They even give you a free trial.

    Hello
Simple problem - don,t know how to solve it.
With Premiere CC when I try to do a selection (click... drag... release the click) very often it stop way before the end of the move I'm swinging the Magic Mouse. I taught that the mouse clicking was defective and went to get a new Magic Mouse after lots of frustration. Today, I have an edit to do it it does the SAME thing !!
    I was like ????#$%?&*(???
Opened all the lights and taught I've trow the new mouse to the garbage and was using the defective mouse again... no !! - ??
Actually, the bran new mouse is doing the same thing. What I understand after investigating on the motion and watching carefully my fingers !! -  is that when I click I have to keep my finger at the EXACT same place on the mouse... drag and release and it's fine. If I click by pushing on the mouse and my finder is moving of a 1/32th of a millimeter, it will release and my selection will be to redo. You can understand my frustration ! - 75$ later... same problem, but I know that if I click with about 5 pounds of pressure and trying to pass my finger through the plastic of the mouse, it you stay steady and make it !
The problem is that scrolling is enable while clicking and it bugs.
    How to disable it ??
Simple question - can't find the answer !

    Helllooo !?
sorry but the Magic Mouse is just useless with the new Adobe Premiere CC and since I'm not the only one but can't find answer this is really disappointing. This mouse is just fantastic and now I have to swap from a USB mouse to the Magic Mouse every times I do some editing. My USB mouse if hurting my hand somehow and I want to got back to the Magic Mouse asap. Please - for sure there is a simple solution !
    Thanks !!

  • Mouse Clicking Stops Working

    Hi everyone,
Suddenly, for no discernible reason, mouse-clicking stops working. The cursor moves around on the screen, but clicking produces no results. This has happened multiple times [in Safari 3.0.4, iCal 3.0, iTunes 7.4.2; Photoshop CS2 (v 9.0.2)]. Restarting is the only solution I've found.
I use a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse combo. Thinking the Logitech driver might be the culprit, I swapped in the original keyboard and mouse that came with the computer. Same results: at times, clicking the cursor does nothing.
    Any ideas?

I experienced this issue as well.
The only patch I am aware of is the following:
    - Press the OPTION key, 5 times in a row (this will trigger an option in the Universal Access pane of the System Preferences that allows you to use your keyboard as a mouse). You'll hear a sound warning.
    - Press the OPTION key, 5 times in a row AGAIN to revert to the previous status.
Your mouse should now be able to click again.

  • Computer shuts down 5 seconds after mouse stops moving

As soon as the computer turns on it comes up with the shutdown/restart box. Have to press escape to cancel the shutdown. If the mouse is moving it is fine but as soon as it stops, 5 seconds later the box comes up and tries to restart. If I let it, it restarts and happens again.
    Any ideas?

    Try a SMC reset.

  • Lately, firefox sticks after a mouse click unless I keep moving my mouse

I can click an icon and watch the moving circle indicating action. It will often be stopped until I move the mouse. Stopping the mouse stops the circle and moving it starts the circle again. I am using Windows 7 32 bit and Firefox 7.0.1
It does not happen in IE. I'm not sure how long it's been going on but just noticed the connection between the mouse and circle movements today.

For me I had to disable the new java add on. the one that is Java Console 6.0.24

  • System hangs, but mouse cursor is moving and music keeps on playing

    Hi,
I'm experiencing very odd behaviour with my MacBook.
System hangs suddenly. I can't switch to any programs, but music keeps on playing and mouse cursor moving. It stays like this forever unless I force laptop to shutdown (by pressing the power button over 5 secs).
Few things that I've noticed when system crashed:
    - I had a lot of programs running (Photoshop, Firefox, lots of small apps)
    - I used Expose or alt-tab
    - iTunes is playing music
Can anyone recommend some tests or tricks that I could run before sending it to the Apple service?

You might be right about having less apps to consume RAM. I've upgraded my RAM to 2GB because I knew this would be on issue.
Maybe I just have to start looking for better performance. Something that can house more RAM. 2xQuad Core Mac Pro for example
    Poikkeus wrote:
    - When this problem occurs again, go to the Apple Menu and activate Force Quit. Then, quit applications that may be hanging.
I tried to point out that mouse cursor is moving but system doesn't respond to any clicks.
I'll try the Main Menu and keep eye on RAM consumption. I'll post to this thread if it hangs again.

  • Mouse Clicks stop working randomly

So far I have noticed several times on my Quad Core 27 inch imac that the mouse clicks stop working.  This is with two different mice, plugged in together, so I know it's not mouse or driver related.  It happens to both of them whenever it does happen.
The only correlation I can make is that it usually happens when I am on a website.  I might even have noticed a correlation with "flash based" modules and components on websites, but this could be speculation at this point.
Apple, I love you, but having to hard restart my $2000 computer because the mouse is inoperable is unacceptable.  Figure this out.  There is no excuse for this.  PC's don't do this.  I've never had a computer do this in my entire life and words cannot describe how frustrating it is, especially when you are in the middle of trying to get some work done...
    -Matt

Try hitting the escape key on the keyboard (ESC). I've noticed that some property sheets, dialogs, and context menus can get 'lost' if you change focus to another program intentionally or accidentally, or if an application 'steals focus' (fairly rare in OS X). You may have to Command + Tab between applications to find where things are 'hung up'. Flash seems especially bad about hanging after a right click tries to call up a context menu.

  • Firefox stops responding to mouse clicks after one click; am on iMac PPC G5,OS 10.4.11; this freeze happens with Logitech AND Mac mice.

About a month ago Firefox would stop responding to the clicks of my mouse after a click or two. Minimizing the page and reopening, or clicking off to another window and back, sometimes gives me another click or two but it always freezes again. I'm on an iMac G5 PPC (from around 2005) desktop running OS 10.4.11. I have a Logitech mouse and loaded a newer driver, and upgraded to Firefox 3.6.12 but the problem persists. I also tried running in Safe Mode but this did not fix the problem, and tried both the original Mac mouse and my Wacom tablet but neither fixes the problem.

Same problem FF3.6.13 WinXP. I had this before but it went away. Upgraded from Firebug 1.6.1 to 1.6.2 tonight and the problem returned; not sure if that's coincidence.
Weird thing is, it's not just that Firefox doesn't respond to the mouse clicks. The click goes right through Firefox to whatever's underneath. However, only the top FF window is affected. If I have two FF windows open, alt-tab into window A, then into window B (both maximised), then when window B stops responding the clicks are picked up by window A.
With window B not responding but over window A, if I click where window A has a SELECT, window A receives the mouse event and the OPTIONS appear over window B.
Only alt-tabbing to another non-Firefox window fixes the problem, and only temporarily.
