Mouse Craziness?

I have a 2009 13.3" MacBook Pro (not the latest model, one back), 2.4GHz, running the latest 10.6.x as of today. My mouse has flaked out on me a few times in the last few months. It acts as if one of my fingers is still on the trackpad, and it's trying to do multitouch. At the same time, it doesn't move well at all. 50 strokes to make it from one side of the screen to the other. A reboot has fixed it both times, but I was wondering if this is a known issue? A google search for "MacBook Pro Mouse Problems" only yields about a gazillion hits, too much to go through.
Thanks!

Well, it is not batteries.
Manual wired Apple Mouse used for over an hour last night and again for about 45 minutes tonight = no trouble
I put new batteries in the Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 2. Also tossed the Microsoft software and installed fresh copy of USB Overdrive.
removed my manual mouse, activated the USB overdrive, hooked up the Microsoft Mouse.
Started doing some email. suddenly,in middle of a reply, the PROBLEM occurred again; Could not do anything in Eudora. Mouse did not respond other than let me use top level menu to quit.
When I went to relaunch the application, the same weirdness; clicking on dock icon no longer launched the application but, instead, opened the application's folder.Clicking on the application icon in its folder launched the application but the mouse was still unresponsive..
I removed the Microsoft Mouse, plugged in the manual wired one button Apple mouse but the problem did not resolve.
I rebooted.
Again, problem is resolved. Using the manual mouse.
Question: could it be my new keyboard ? I had the mice plugged into the keyboard. Maybe I should plug mouse into a separate USB Hub? ( Although the Microsoft Mouse was plugged into the separate hub when the problem began.
Very puzzled.
Is my five year old iMac falling apart?
Could it be the wireless mouse falling apart?
Ideas anyone?

  • Prevent directory move on NSS volume

This issue has come up from time to time, but never annoying enough to address until now. I have a few directories on a OES 11 server running NSS volumes that are utilized as "public" folders for users and departments. The rights that are typically granted to the top-level directory are 'RWECMF' to the OU. The issue is that on occasion, a user will accidentally go mouse crazy and inadvertently move the directory to a new location, thus causing a search and find adventure to move the directory back to the proper location.
The question is, am I missing something really basic here to allow users to continue to perform what they need to do on the file system below public, but to prevent them from the ability to move the top-level directory, in this case "public?"
Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Yup. It happens.
    The usual answers are:
    1. Take the rights away.
    2. Shoot the offending users. Repeat until it stops happening.
    3. Use something to "tune" the mouse action on the workstation to make
    moving things accidently more difficult.
Pick one... But #2 is likely to lead to other problems.

Sadly, no. If they have sufficient rights to do so, the server doesn't
know or care why they're moving stuff from "here" to "there". It's a
valid operation, and the server does what it does as quickly as possible.

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth: Potential sources of wireless interference

  • New Bluetooth Mightymouse goes crazy on certain mouse pads

I just bought a new wireless Mightmouse from Amazon UK and started using it, only to discover that it goes crazy when placed on certain mouse pads. The cursor starts moving all over the screen if I even place the mouse on the pad without moving it. I have three mouse pads here and only one can be used (it has a plastic cover). The other two, a thin one and a thicker, rubbery one (both cloth covered) cause the mouse to get a life of its own. A plain white desktop works ok, too, but in some cases I need to use a mouse pad, for example, when working on a garden table that has slits.
I tried it with all wireless stuff off (airport unplugged, etc.), but still the same. From what I have seen posted here, there seem to be some odd problems with this mouse. I wonder if I should return it? Could it be a hardware problem? Or maybe a software problem?
(This is on a new Macbook Pro 17inch.)

    Hello Apple:
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
I would return it. There is no reason that the mouse would be +"pad sensitive."+ I have found that the optical mice do need a pad to work well.

  • Crazy mouse behavior?

First I have done a search through the archives and i don't see a defining answer. At times my mouse seems to do a lot of strange an erratic movements. Say I drag the mouse down, the curser goes wiggly and in an erratic direction. This is frustrating when I'm in PS drawing specific lines. I have zapped my Pram & repaired my permissions, but am at a loss to know what to do to fix this. Any insights would be very appreciated. Thanks Jeff
mighty mouse that came with the 2.8 2008 Mac Pro (not wireless)

    Hi ArchFotos,
Well, I hope this Mac newbie (from PC) can save you some time, because I'm having the same issue on my brand new system.
It's a grounding issue. To experiment:
    - Touch your Mac Pro while moving the mouse, or;
    - Touch your keyboard (the metal parts) while moving the mouse.
If things seem fine, then you've found the issue.
I've disabled the bottom left/right "buttons" for sanity purposes. However, you'll still hear the constant "clicking", like a real mammal in there is trying hard to get out , which means that the sensors are still firing like crazy. I'm sure that's not healthy for the mouse (living or not).
So, I hope this prevents you from constantly going to the Apple store and replacing your mouse, or worse, do a classic PC thing like reinstalling the whole system ...just find a way to deal with grounding yourself.
What's really surprising is that it seems to be an unresolved issue for some time. Nothing "official" from Apple....sigh....

  • Macbook pro 2010...cursor is acting crazy jumping everywhere and responding very slow...thought it was the track pad but I plugged in a mouse and it still does the same thing...is this a virus?..and can someone please help?...

My Macbook pro is acting Crazy....the Cursor just keeps on jumping everywhere and not responding when I use the trackpad....Even when it does respond it is very slow...I thought it was the trackpad acting up but realized it wasnt when i plugged in a mouse and it still did the same thing...this happened one other time and shortly after my computer froze...I had to restart for it to work but restarting dosent help this time...can someone please help?...Is this a Virus?

It is not a virus.  See my Mac Virus Guide*.
As to what it might be, that's hard to say.  You should try some basic troubleshooting...  Repair the hard drive with disk utility.  Boot in safe mode and see if it happens then, log in to a different user account and see if it happens there, reboot from another system and see if it happens.
Apparently some people have had this kind of problem caused by swelling batteries that push on the underside of the trackpad and cause all kinds of strange problems.  Is your machine's underside deformed at all?

  • My macbook pro mouse and touchpad is slow and crazy?

it first started was when i was watching netflix and the mouse did not want to move and the mouse started feel slow and when i click something it would be if i right click. Now the mouse is slow and sometimes when i scroll down or up it would be if i press F4 with the touchpad or F3. Sometimes it would get stuck of F3 and i would not be able to use it and i have to restart the computer. When i am using Safari or preview it would zoom and unzoom all the time and it gets annoying. I put on safe mode and it was working right and when it was normal it started going crazy. I heard that if i change the battery the issue would go away is it true?

Go step by step and test.
    1. Restart
    2. Shut down the computer.
Clean the trackpad with moist not wet microfiber cloth.
System Preferences > Point & Click
Try turning off three finger dragging and then turning it on after  testing.
    3. Is there any Bluetooth device nearby with failing batteries? If so, replace the batteries.

  • [SOLVED]Mouse and keyboard acting crazy. I have to restart gdm via ssh

Here's the output from dmesg after boot.
    http://pastebay.com/14045
Basically, I'm getting errors from my USB mouse and keyboard.  If I wait long enough udev will find them and they'll start working.  GDM starts too fast so Xorg is stuck without keyboard and mouse.  I had to ssh and restart GDM then mouse and keyboard worked.  For the meantime I've disabled gdm in rc.conf.
I usually see these messages from devices that are drawing too much power from the USB power bus.
These devices work fine in the Win32 and OSX installs on the same hardware.

  • Help, iMac 27'' wireless keyboard types weird symbols, and mouse is crazy

Hello, I have had my iMac for about 6 months, and its been fine up until a few days ago. I downloaded an update, and now its going crazy.
When I type, the keyboard acts as though my alt key is stuck, and I get characters like: œ∑®∂¥†∫≤∫≈. But my volume control keys do not work. When I restart my computer, its fine for about an hour, then the crazy characters start again.
Also, when I am in Safari, my mouse downloads EVERY link I click on, as if I were right-clicking, then downloading the link.
If I use my remote, the Sound menu appears, instead of raising the volume.
Another thing I noticed, in my Apple menu, my "About this Mac" menu is gone. The icon closest to the top is the system preferences.
When I tried to check the keyboard preferences, bluetooth cannot find the keyboard. I'm thinking it may be a software problem, but I am not certain. I checked to make sure that my language in my system preferences was set to english, and no other languages are checked.
I also tried to re-download the OS X 10.6.4, I also downloaded the 10.6.4 Combo update.
I am soooo frusterated at this point, if anyone has any idea of what is going on, please help! Thank you for your help.

FWIW, you might want to try if _*resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM*_ helps.
another thing to try is booting your Mac into _*safe mode*_, repairing permissions while in safe mode, then rebooting normally.

  • PS2 mouse goes crazy on T8000

    Hi there,
When i trie to use a Trust optical mouse with my T8000, this mouse goes crazy. The "internal mouse" in the keyboard keeps working perfectly... but that's who wants to use that?
    Ideas anyone?

    Hi
It is not easy to explain why this happened. In my opinion you should try with another external mouse. Try also to disable internal mouse while you use an external one.
Check also BIOS settings. There is an option called Pointing Device or something like that. Try to change from Auto-selected to Simultaneous.

  • Crazy Mouse?

Hello! Unfortunately I have an update woe. I had updated to 10.4.9 when it originally came out, but had so many problems I reverted back to 10.4. Since everything was running great for a couple of months or so, silly me decided to try the 10.4.9 combo updte again since the updates are really suppose to help your mac work better. ((???))! So now, my usb mouse that has always worked great has gone crazy skipping, jumping, sticking and totally disappearingWhich is a sick reminder of what I went through the laast time. The lovely spinning beach ball has reappeared also. After reading about the 10.4.10 nightmares on the forum I am leary of it. Is there a fix or should I revert back again?
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I am having a similar problem, without being wireless: all of a sudden yesterday my mouse started acting funny; I can not use any function while I push it down (selecting, dragging, etc.), windows switch with each other if I move the mouse over them. If I turn off the computer the problem starts again after about 20 minutes.
I checked on the Console and I got this message:
Anonymous function hack: eating identifier doc_mousedown
Does it mean I have been hacked? If so how do I take care of this problem?
    Thanks for the help

  • Crazy mouse movement

Somewhere between this AM and this PM my mouse went crazy amd even touching the touchpad or usb mouse sent the cursor zooming out of control around the screen like a mad thing.
I seem to have fixed this by switching to evdev driver and following the wiki guide for static mouse but since then my touchpad won't work, which is disappointing because both _were_ working together.  After some checking I found this page and grabbed this from my X.log:

anyway, I was looking for something on my harddrive and my mouse was highlighting stuff randomly and it moved stuff from one application to others willy nilly. I think it moved something major because when I went to retreive emails using Entourage, everything was gone and it was asking me if I wanted to run the set up assistant or whatever the thing is called that gets you started.
Here's my question, is there any way that go back and so that my system is restored to before the time my mouse went crazy? Please someone say there is.

    Hello aarbelle
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Sorry no one has come to your Aid but not sure what could be the problem accept for a mouse that is dying!
You stated that you cleaned out the lens and that's about all you can do.
Even though you cleaned the lens double check that there is not a hair or small piece of lint stuck between the plastic and blocking the laser.
You might try to take the batteries out let it sit a minute and then put them back in.
    And reboot your Mac!
