Mouse cursor flickers while moving around (all programs)

This problem started up about a month ago now.  Basically the cursor starts to flicker at random while I move it around the screen.  It doesn't fly all over the place as I've read other people's has, but it's pretty annoying and I can't figure out why it's happening.
At first I thought it was just happening in my internet browser (I mainly use Chrome) when I hovered over links, but now it happens in most programs.  It makes using Adobe Illustrator (I do some graphic design) very difficult because I can't see the contextual icons telling my what I'm hovering over.
It's also very random when it happens.  It doesn't do it over every link and sometimes it will do it only after I click on one.  Sometimes it will do it just as I move the cursor around the screen.  In Illustrator, for instance, it does it pretty much constantly.
My software is up to date, and I haven't been able to find anyone encountering the same issue as me.  Restarting doesn't make it go away, any thoughts?

I had the same problem, cursor seemingly randomly changing shapes as I moved it across the screen. Fortunately I was able to associate the start of the problem with some issues I was having with Flip4Mac that caused me to install a Flip4Mac upgrade.  After that the cursor started flipping out and I was getting these errors in the Console:
10/19/13 12:41:36.054 PM com.apple.qtkitserver[569]: objc[569]: Class TSSandboxPrefs is implemented in both /Library/Frameworks/TSLicense.framework/Versions/A/TSLicense and /Library/QuickTime/Flip4Mac WMV Import.component/Contents/MacOS/Flip4Mac WMV Import. One of the two will be used. Which one is undefined.
10/19/13 12:42:17.783 PM com.apple.qtkittrustedmoviesservice[583]: objc[583]: Class TSSandboxPrefs is implemented in both /Library/Frameworks/TSLicense.framework/Versions/A/TSLicense and /Library/QuickTime/Flip4Mac WMV Import.component/Contents/MacOS/Flip4Mac WMV Import. One of the two will be used. Which one is undefined.
I'm not positive, but I believe neither of those are needed anymore since FlipPlayer 3.0 has moved everything into the App Bundle.  Anyway, I deleted the folders:
/Library/Frameworks/TSLicense.framework/
/Library/Quicktime/Flip4Mac WMV Advanced.component
/Library/Quicktime/Flip4Mac WMV Export.component
/Library/Quicktime/Flip4Mac WMV Import.component
And then used the Flip4Mac uninstaller to uninstall Flip4Mac, then rebooted, and the problem went away.
I suspect this problem can be caused not only by these specific double definitions, but also by other QuickTime frameworks that are installed in two different places.
So check your console logs for warnings from qtkitserver and/or qtkittrustedmoviesservice logs and see if there is a problem you can resolve.

  • Hourglass Icon Next To Mouse Cursor Flickers On/Off C0ntinuously while on Google Mail Page

    I am using Firefox 8.0
    Whenever I go to check my email with Google Mail the hourglass symbol next to my mouse pointer / cursor keeps flickering on and off. This only happens when I use Firefox. It does not happen with IE. I don't have this issue with any other website that I visit using Firefox. When I close the tab that has the google mail instance, the flickering stops.

    I figured out what was causing it. When I disabled the Google Talk Pluggins, the cursor stopped with repeated hourglass reads / flickering. Fire Fox must note like the Google Talk Pluggins.

  • Weird spacey buzz sound while moving around in iTunes store?

    I noticed it today while browsing the iTunes store.  It is really annoying.  I've checked all the preferences and even my account profile to see if there is anything that can be turned on/off for alerts or sounds.
    Can anyone tell me how to turn it off?

    I checked the phone in more places and I noticed that this buzz (static noise) happens only in certain places. In places where I had constant 5 bars while talking the sound was clear. When I checked this orgininally and got this noise this was in area where I have 3 bars.
    However, still with Blackberry even with 2 bars or only 1 I had no such thing.
    Either all iPhones have this bug or my model is particulary defective but it shouldn't be.

    Even though I had my phone with me and was home asleep, my friend using the find my friends app thought I was moving all over town all night, as it showed that on the app. Has my phone been hacked?

    My phone never left my possession.  Does anyone have a clue how this could have occurred??

  • Mouse cursor flickers

    For a long time on my MacBook pro 15" with Retina display I have an issue that ****** me off.
    Every time I move the cursor on a link, or on something, that changes it, the cursor appears in the wrong place for a little time.
    This couldn't be recorded from screen with QuickTime, so a make a video with a camera:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPut7vYbVZM
    I checked Yosemite, and it has this as well.

    This still occurs in Yosemite release version. Is something going to be done with this?

  • Mouse pointer flickers when moved on a pdf viewed in Safari. Any ideas ?

    Same thing happens when trying to capture a screen area with Shift-Cmd-4.

    I know this a weird issue so I'm not surprised I've had no reply to my question. Never the less, it is a real problem and maybe I need to file a bug report with Adobe. What would be the best way to do that?
    Also, looking at this again, could it be anything to do with the fact that the Mac that has this issue with Acrobat XI is running OS X 10.6.8?

  • Something is controlling my mouse cursor

    Starting a couple of days ago my mouse cursor started mysteriously moving around the screen on it's own, opens windows and clicks on various things. Like someone is controlling the computer. The mouse is a hard wired Microsoft optical mouse.
    Bluetooth is turned off, network cable has been disconnected, Airport has been turned off. I even unplugged the optical mouse and the moving cursor issue is still there.
    This is very freaky and I do not know where to look next. Any ideas on what could be happening?

    If your computer has Remote Desktop installed or operational,
    and some Firewall settings open to external access or sharing,
    there may be an opportunity for someone to gain access. That
    is a very unusual situation, the Firewall & any access applications
    turned on (normally off by default) should be checked.
    You could restart the computer and hold the Shift key down,
    then when the computer starts up in SafeBoot mode, login;
    then run Disk Utility (see Go in Finder, note Utilities Folder)
    and run Repair Disk Permissions; quit Disk Utility, restart.
    There may be something internal going on, but if the Mac
    is on some shared network or has some settings incorrect,
    some odd things could be happening. Very unusual things.
    Is there a chance some kind of application is running; or
    some control preference panel was set to change the
    mouse or magnification on the screen? If you boot up
    the computer from the Installer disc, and carefully run
    the Disk Utility version on that disc and have it Repair
    Disk, then Repair Disk Permissions; the quit D.U. and
    choose to restart the computer using Startup Disk from
    the dropdown menu bar in the Installer main menu; any
    background items - if any are running - should be off
    and the system should be set to defaults.
    I have all but the Time setting blocked in my Mac's Firewall; and
    do not have any Sharing turned on, nor do I have any open net-
    work where someone can gain access that way. But you may.
    It does seem rather unlikely, but not impossible.
    {Several years ago, I recall a friend of mine who had just bought
    a printer to go with his iMac, on broadband cable. He was printing
    away for a few hours and the printer did not work. Finally, he got
    a call from someone a few miles away (in a city) who said that
    the printed documents were appearing out of that other person's
    printer; and they too had the same broadband cable internet co.}
    So, odd things can happen, and it may be a matter of proper settings.
    Good luck & happy computing!

    When mousing over text, the cursor flickers constantly (with every letter passed) from arrow to i-beam and back.  The problem occurs in both MS Word 2011 and Pages.  Any idea of how to solve this annoying problem will be much appreciated.  System 10.10.1 on a MacPro (Late 2013)

    The mouse is controlled by the OS so don't guess any app other than a mouse driver or OS X itself would be able to cause this sort of flicker issue.
    Have you seen the following and is it what you are seeing? Maybe you could make a movie (Quicktime is great for this this to make a screen recording) - but not sure how to attach a movie to these discussions as mine is grayed out and can't be selected (to the right of the insert image). Here is the what I found for a search of "mouse cursor flickers os x yosemite"

    What kind of mouse are you using? Is the mouse driver up to date if it's a third party mouse?

  • Mouse Cursor is red

    The mouse cursor on the screen has turned red and become larger. Every time it passes by something it clicks on it. what can I do to fix this.

    Hello Dejay74464,
    I see that you are having problems with the mouse cursor on your computer. I would like to help with this issue but I need some information.
    What operating system are you using?
    If you check inside of mouse properties can you change the settings for the pointer/cursor? To get to the mouse properties go to the start menu and type "mouse" in the search box under all programs. There should be a "pointers" tab where you can change the cursor settings.

  • Pointer moving all around and programs are opening

    I am trying to use my trackpad as I always have, but my mouse keeps moving around (kind of like it has a mind of it's own).  I also find that programs are randomly opening up and it feels like someone else is in control of my computer.  Help please!

    I recently had the same thing happen.  I updated and the next day the track pad started working erractically. Tried all sorts of things, but cleaning it solved my problem.
    To fix it, I turned the computer off, used a cleaner for my eyeglasses and made sure I cleaned the trackpad really well.  I used a tip of a needle to clean out the edges of the trackpad, as it was dirtier than I thought.  Maybe something about the update makes the trackpad more sensitive to dirt.  In other threads I read not to use hand lotions before using trackpad and to keep the trackpad as clean as possible.
    This completely solved the problem.

  • Wait Cursor not showing while moving the Mouse

    I have a JFrame application. In that JFrame i have a Jdialog (login screen). After entering user name and password, i am setting the Wait cursor (hour glass) for the JFrame and JDialog. When the mouse cursor is inside dialog, it is properly showing the wait cursor. I can able to move the mouse within dialog.
    But When I move the mouse outside the dialog i.e inside JFrame, the wait cursor goes off. It shows default cursor. Even I have set the wait cursor to JFrame.
    What may be the problems? If any body knows, please expaling.
    Advance thanks for early reply.

    if any knows the solution, please post it.

  • [arch-based] Flickering mouse cursor

    Hi guys. I'm not sure it's the right section to write in.
    The issue is this one: it often happens that mouse cursor starts suddenly extremely lagging, even if the CPU consumption is not that high. It flickers, sometimes stuck in a screen position, keeping there for a while, and moving jerky.
    I need some help, even only for some logs to look at.
    Looking forward for an help.

    Rome, can you please clarify that part of your title?  Are you using archlinux or a derivative distro?  Posting the output of the following would be helpful:
    uname -a
    mod note: Moving to newbie corner (for now).

    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == a few days after installing 3.6.3

    Hello Jim.
    It's probably one of three things:
    #your mouse is getting old (this behavior is common in old optical mouses);
    #you have software that is making your mouse cursor behave unexpectedly (I know of an option in Windows that will automatically move your mouse to windows buttons...);
    #or you may be having a problem with some extension or plugin that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?

  • My screen keeps moving around with the cursor?

    HI everyone out there. i just got back from my 2 week honeymoon and had my G5 power mac, with a 27inch cinema display powered off the whole time. I turned it on and the screen is zoomed out a little bit. and when I move the mouse cursor around the screen image moves around with it as much as an inch or so. Did I catch a virus? or is there a setting my house guests might have touched, even though i am pretty sure they were not on it at all? Any help will do. I am updating the software right now to make sure it isn't that.

    You've inadvertently hit the key combination for screen zoom, probably. Go into System Preferences -> Universal Access and turn off the zoom function.
    Or, Command-Option-hyphen will unzoom the screen, and Command-option-equals will zoom (which is probably what got accidentally typed).
