Mouse cursor sticking in Safari?

I've noticed this weird thing where the cursor sometimes gets stuck while I'm posting on forums like this one. It happens when the text entry box is highlighted, like the one I'm typing in right now. It's not the trackpad, I don't think, because it works fine in any other situation. but I'm sitting here moving the cursor back and forth, and it sticks for a second or two while I'm doing it.
Anyone else have this happen?

Yea it seems a lot of people are having this problem. It probably is not just in Safari for you, it is just that you are noticing it now. It happens for me sporadically, and probably for you as well.
Hope something can be done about this...more and more people are coming out with the same problem.

  • Mouse cursor "Sticks" or disappears momentarily, what gives?!

Have you guys had a cursor stick and or disappear for a second to a few seconds? is this an issue due to way to many apps being opened, however it happens to me even with a single app open...what could possibly remedy this?

Uncheck "Ignore accidental trackpad input" does not solve this problem. Others have posted about trying all sorts of combinations under keyboard and mouse settings. This is an on-going, unresolved issue for many of us. This is the first thing I noticed on my Macbook after getting it yesterday (9/25).
Have not read or heard about any fix for this.
I'll keep looking, reading and waiting for a solution.

  • Mouse cursor disappearing

I am using Apple Wireless Mighty Mouse and when I am browsing around on the internet my cursor seems to disappear occasionally if i move it into the toolbars... (back, forward, stop, address etc..) i can still click on things and stuff but i can't see the cursor?
    Any ideas?

Yes I understand, It is almost as if the pointer
slips under the buttons on the left of the toolbar,
where the back & forward buttons are, for me it is
has also been on the page as I approach the toolbar.
I have no doubt it is the same sort of thing, as a
matter of fact I had it happen yesterday on an AOL
page, which I just tested on W3C....
I encountered precisely this "arrow cursor disappears" or "mouse cursor disappears" in Safari uptodate on MacBook 2GHz w 1GB RAM. But I observed it on only a single page of a large site (www.philly.com).
Thus I assume it is the coding of that page and Safari's picky rendering of W3C standards... and a W3C Validator check of that page's URL produced hundreds of errors in its coding, which I forwarded to the offending site's webmaster.
    Failed validation, 118
Errors, clearly validated poorly using the beta v. of W3C.
    Mark up Validator.
When you run into the problem check the site.
    The regular W3C
    Markup Validation Service gave this
    ->:Result: Failed validation,
    57 errors.
I noticed that I didn't have the disappearing curser
tonight when I visited the same AOL page in
    Del.ici.cous, using Safari Webkit
I also just Installed "Security Update 2007-004, via
SwUpdter not sure if that made any difference, which
    is recommended.
Eme mentioned having just installed some software updates but didn't say what happened afterwards. In my case it only began to appear AFTER I installed "Security Update 2007-005 (Universal)" (1.1) and "Security Update (QuickTime 7.1.6)" (1.0).

  • Loading mulitple Adobe Flash web pages makes mouse cursor disappear

I have a 2011 Mac Mini with OSX 10.7 Lion Server
Regardless of the Browser used  - if I load mulitple Adobe Flash based Flickr photo slide show web pages, after 15 seconds my Mouse Cursor completely disappears and makes navigating the mac rather impossible.
Its really buggy and forces me to click or "right click" (Option Click) randomly on the Desktop with the hope that I might briefly see the cursor return so I can close the browsers.
Does not matter if i use Safari, Firefox or Chrome.
These are the pages in question which give me grief -
    http://www.flickr.com/groups/warbirds/pool/with/8032123616/lightbox/
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/fluxstreamcommunication/show/
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/x-ray_delta_one/show/
must click the "play " to start the slide show, have all three running at the same time.
And withing 10 seconds on my mac mini - NO Curser.
Even if I try to move the mouse outside the Browser display area  - to where i clairvoyantly might consider the cursor should be over the Desktop.
Typically results in the invisible cursor accidently creating numerous new folders on the desktop, as I frantically attempt to make the cursor re-appear.
Totally maddening - and I have the Identical problem on Two separate 2011 Macs. (iMac 27 and Mac Mini)
My local  Apple Genius Bar support person suggested I back up my data and perform  "OSX Recovery"
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
Stating its possble that my Adobe Flash was installed wrong.
    I have the latest updates
    OSX 10.7.4
    Flash Version 11.4.402.265

    Update.
    This solved the problem
My local  Apple Genius Bar support person suggested this sequence and it fixed my disappearing cursor!
    1) Back Up personal Data
    2) Perform "OSX Recovery"
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
    3) Perform the Apple Software update
    4) Then install latest Adobe Flash
    This fixed my problem!
Now I'll do the same fix for my 2011 iMac 27" with the identical issue.

  • Mouse cursor jittery and broken after latest OS X update

I just updated my iMac (27", latest model, running Mountain Lion) with the most recent Software Update, and I'm now having big problems with my mouse.
The mouse cursor jitters wildly any time I move the mouse, jumping several centimetres back and forth (above-left and below-right; it doesn't seem to flicker randomly, just between those three positions. It flickers rapidly between the arrow cursor and the text selection cursor. When I stop moving the mouse, I will often get the wrong cursor (such as an arrow, or a text selection cursor on its side) instead of the correct text selection cursor. I've been stuck with the sideways text selection cursor for the entirety of this post, for instance.
This also happens in Photoshop when I'm working on images; the cursor will flicker between the arrow and whichever Photoshop tool I'm trying to use, and it will jitter wildly back and forwards. As you can imagine, this makes Photoshop unusable, which is a major problem for me.
It doesn't happen when I'm using stuff like the menus, or Control Panel, or the Safari bookmarks bar.
This happens whether I'm using a Magic Mouse via Bluetooth or a USB mouse, so it's not the mouse itself that's the problem.
I'm using the mouse on the same surface as I previously was with no problems (a wooden desktop with a matte finish), but the same thing happens when I try the mouse on other surfaces such as paper or a mousepad, so it's not the surface that's the problem.
Please help! This makes my Mac virtually unusable, at least for all the tasks I need to use it for. Any suggestions?

    Hi EleanorJLH,
You may want to test to see if the issue persists in a new test user to help isolate the possible causes. You may find the following article helpful:

  • Mac Pro won't boot, screen flashes, no mouse cursor

    Hello.
I've had a Mac Pro 1,1 for about 3.5 years now and it's worked fantastic until recent weeks. Suddenly, I started getting weird glitches on the screen that was fixed by a simple PRAM reset and a safe boot. Worked fine for about a month after that, then it froze on me and refused to boot, so I removed all hardware, followed all steps to find the problem and I'm still stuck. I've formatted the system drive now and reinstalled 10.6.3 and it will only boot in safe mode, but when it does, the screen flashes intermittently and there is no mouse cursor which makes it tricky to get around. I've moved some ram around and found a configuration that seems to have no issues, so now I'm just wondering what's left. I do have an appointment for the genius bar tomorrow but I'd like to get the problem fixed on my own, if possible. Oh, and sometimes when I boot up the screen turns entirely pink with a blue or purple mouse cursor. I've searched online and no one else has seemed to ever have this sort of problem. Like I said, the computer was working perfectly fine until recently, and I didn't change anything or add any hardware or install any new software either.

hey - thanks to those of you that actually had supportive advice in helping me to fix this problem.
for the record, i did take the computer to the "genius" bar and they did not turn me away. they opened the computer and found that i had a bad stick of ram. got new ram installed, and the computer booted up fine, but still had visual distortion and would freeze up if i did anything taxing on the graphic card, especially the iTunes visualizer. Anyway, thanks to you guys i looked up the baking situation which threw me off at first. the graphic card in my machine was a 8800 GT, so i put it in the oven for 8 minutes, reinstalled, and my computer has been running fine since. i realize that this is probably just a temporary fix, but i thought i'd let you guys know that the problem has been resolved for now, and i really appreciate you guys taking time out to help!
thanks, happy xmas + happy 2014

  • 27" iMac Mouse Cursor Artifact and Pixelated Screen

My mother's 27" 2011 iMac decided to die the other day.  Boot up sequence seems fine but then the display is some odd pixel patterns that blink and not much more.  I immediately assumed it was the graphics card but then upon booting up in Safe mode, the screen looks perfect.  The only sign that something is up is this odd 'artifact' attached to the mouse cursor.
I've finally given up and I made a bootable USB stick with Yosemite, figuring a fresh start will help.  Still, when booting up the Yosemite installer, I still see this odd mouse cursor artifact.
Any insights into this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Jon

    Thanks for coming back, Lauren.
But there are many things mentioned in that link that are not connected with settings.   The surface of your desk, mouse pad; try some alternatives.  Then there is cleaning the sensor (use a cotton bud moistened (not wet) with an alcohol based cleaner or at a pinch, a rolled up wipe for spectacles.
Then there is signal interference.   Have you changed the position of something recently.   This is part of another Apple guide note.
    Check for signal interference
Because Bluetooth works by transmitting signals through the air, some things can interfere with the wireless connection. Avoid situations in which metal objects come between the device and the computer. Don't put the computer under a metal desk or locked away behind a metal cabinet. Keep cordless phone base stations, microwave ovens, and other electrical devices that operate on a 2.4 GHz bandwidth away, and make sure that the wireless device and computer aren't more than 30 feet apart from each other.

  • Mouse cursor keeps dissapearing ?

help. Mouse cursor keeps disapearing. Renders whole machine useless. Have to do hard re-boot to recover cursor

I have OS X 10.9 (Mavericks), & my cursor has just recently started disappearing!
    This did´nt happen in Lion.
The cursor just goes invisable at random, but mostly when I switch between Tabs mostly when I´m in Safari.
I then swipe to another App (Like Finder or something), then back to Safari & there it is!
I don´t use a mouse but a Trackpad (Not that that should make a difference).
Also the cursor jumps to another position when typing without me even touching the Trackpad.
    Any suggestions?

  • Mouse cursor keeps disappearing under 10.7

Ever since I've installed 10.7 I notice that the mouse cursor has a tendency to keep dissappearing in most apps, particularly Safari. For example, like when I click a text box to type an email in Hotmail. The cursor dissappears and only re-appears when I move the mouse to get the cursor out of the program app. But after it reappears, I got back to Safari it gets hidden again. This is very frustrating indeed as I have no idea where the mouse is on the page.
As a matter of fact, as I enter this question in the text box, the cursor has completely dissappeared and only reappears (but then quickly hides again) when I go inside and outside of the text block. I know normally the cursor would dissappear when I started typing, but this happens even when I'm not and I'm shaking the mouse to try to unhide it
However it seems to happen in other apps as well, but is most frequently happening in Safari probably mostly since that is my most common app.

The cursor dissappears whenever you type on the keyboard. It just always happens globally.

  • Mouse cursor hand with enableAutoWholeImage(true)

    Hi forum,
if we set enableAutoWholeImage(true) and mapviewer render a theme as a whole image the mouse cursor doesn't change (hand symbol) when moving over a clickable foi in internet explorer. The same with firefox works. Ho can we fix this issue for internet explorer?

I am also having the same problem with movieclip objects made in Flash with buttonMode set to true and useHandCursor = true; The same files show the hand cursor on older versions of Safari. Does anyone know any workarounds?
Here is a link to the project I noticed it on. The "Play","Cover", "Tracks" buttons, etc. should show the hand cursor:

  • [SOLVED] Putting mouse cursor on system tray = freeze for 1~3 sec

Hello guys, I got 2 problems with setting up my graphical package or something.
    1. I've installed "Arch 64bit + Openbox Stand alone + Catalyst" on my desktop.
When I put my mouse cursor on the system tray, whole system freezes for  1~3 seconds.
    2. When I open "Thunar", randomly icons and fonts are blurry. Sometimes it opens clearly but sometimes not.
There is no problem at all when I install "ArchBang 64-bit". This seems to be that I missed to install some specific package.
    Any idea?

This is a strange problem, and probably something stupid I've done. If I move my mouse to the lower right hand side of the desktop
(bottom panel or system tray it freezes for a second or so).
This problem is repeatable on Xfce4.8 and also E17 desktop.
I have a microsoft optical mouse, so its not (mechanical mouse ball). More specifically I'm running at 1280x1024 res and the area
where the mouse pointer sticks is about 4cm from the right hand screen edge and 1cm down.
I am using an Ati Radeon HD4770 card with the proprietry fglrx driver  Catalyst 11.5 and graphics acceleration is fine.
    My /etc/X11/xorg.conf below:
    Section "ServerLayout"
        Identifier     "aticonfig Layout"
        Screen      0  "aticonfig-Screen[0]-0" 0 0
    EndSection
    Section "Module"
    EndSection
    Section "Monitor"
        Identifier   "aticonfig-Monitor[0]-0"
        Option        "VendorName" "ATI Proprietary Driver"
        Option        "ModelName" "Generic Autodetecting Monitor"
        Option        "DPMS" "true"
    EndSection
    Section "Device"
        Identifier  "aticonfig-Device[0]-0"
        Driver      "fglrx"
        BusID       "PCI:1:0:0"
    EndSection
    Section "Screen"
        Identifier "aticonfig-Screen[0]-0"
        Device     "aticonfig-Device[0]-0"
        Monitor    "aticonfig-Monitor[0]-0"
        DefaultDepth     24
        SubSection "Display"
            Viewport   0 0
            Depth     24
        EndSubSection
    EndSection
Being lazy I actually used this xorg.conf from PCLinux but I dont have the same mouse probelem on E17 or Xfce in PClinux.
When the freeze occurs  I cannot use keyboard, then about a second later, I have control again. The system works normally and no
    errors are wrote to /var/log/messages.
Only thing I can find in /var/log/Xorg.0.log is a warning:
[  3651.919] Warning: LookupWindow()/SecurityLookupWindow() are deprecated.  Please convert your driver/module to use dixLookupWindow().
Before using fglrx I was using the radeon driver. This is probably something stupid on my part, I am installing a  new hard drive shortly so will
    be re-installing.
The problem is as if some application is stealing the mouse focus, but I cannot understand why it is happening to that specific area on the screen.
Thanks in advance for any insight.
    Some hardware:

  • New Install - startx results in blank screen with mouse cursor

I installed Arch on my desktop last week with no issues, so I wanted to install it on an old THinkpad R31. Everything with the installation went smooth, but when I try to 'startx' all I get is a blank screen with a mouse cursor that I can move around. I've installed xorg-xinit, xorg-twm, xorg-xclock, and xterm.
I'm not getting any significant errors in the logs, or even the terminal I issue 'startx' in.
I'm not sure what the problem could be...

To run twm, you need to install xorg-twm from [extra] (I am not sure if it installs by default). Do you have xterm installed?
According to his first post he has both xorg-twm and xterm installed.
    I do indeed.
I went ahead and installed LXDE anyways, just to see what would happen. Exact same thing, it looks like everything is about to load but only the mouse cursor shows up. My Xorg.0.log is the same, so I won't post it again.
I do get an error in the console about the openbox menu.xml file missing but I doubt that's related.

  • On startup Mac Pro I get a blue screen and a cursor on the upper left. The mouse cursor shows up independently. Is it likely a video card failure?

On startup Mac Pro I get a blue screen and a cursor on the upper left. The mouse cursor shows up independently. Is it likely a video card failure?

I managed to boot the computer and get the desktop to show. I now have a "repaired" computer. There are several problems that have cropped up. One is that I can only start up now in Safe Boot mode. Is there a way to turn it off? Also, I do not have a sound list, so I can't access anything requiring audio. Google Chrome only shows up as a white screen. Pictures that loaded before don't load in browsers, etc. Any suggestions? I figure I should reinstall Mac OS Lion for starts, maybe even do a mirror backup and reformat the drive. I think this drive has turned into scrambled eggs...what a headache!
