Mouse doubleclick sometimes quits apps, opens login window?

Occasionally, after doubleclicking my mouse (left click of Mighty Mouse), hatch marks in a circle will appear in the center of the screen and then the login window will appear. After I log in, the applications I had open are all closed.
The last time this happened, I was using Firefox, and had clicked a browser window behind the one in front, and when it did not come to the front immediately, I clicked on it again. There was a bit of a pause between the clicks. It's happened like this before, but I can't swear to what application's window I was clicking on, or if it was the desktop.
I can't replicate the problem; it seems to occur randomly. For example, I just opened two windows in Firefox, and the first click on the window beneath the open one brought it to the front. Even if I try doubleclicking on the window underneath quickly, it only brings it to the front.
Why might this be happening, and what might the solution be?

This just gets weirder. Originally it seemed it happened sometimes with a left doubleclick. Then, still randomly, with a single left click.
Now it happened when I was scrolling down with the scroll ball. There's no rhyme or reason to it. I can scroll down with the ball now, and it doesn't happen again. This is very strange and annoying.

    Content and Apple IDs -
Content is forever tied to the Apple ID that bought it. Apple does not transfer content from one Apple ID to another. Apple does not merge Apple IDs. You will never be able to access your content bought with one Apple ID with a new Apple ID.

  • SQLDEV 1.5.5: disconnecting from one db, quits all open editing windows

    Hi,
i noticed that in SQL Developer 1.5.5 for Mac OS X, when i disconnect an open connection using the context menu, SQL developer quits all open editor windows even if they are open against different connections.
The windows remain open only if there are unsaved changes and i am asked if i want to save the changes or cancel the operation.
I believe this happened also on 1.5.4, although i could not verify it now.

    K,
I understand exactly. When you are connected as a user and have a number of reports, worksheets and other editors open and then disconnect, the reports stay open (we have a preference to control this) and the worksheets stay open ( we have a preference to control this) , but everything else closes. That is because there is no preference and the default behavior is to close the editors. This is as designed. This is a feature that is not implemented and as such is an enhancement request and not a bug. It's still in 2.1 EA1, because we have not yet addressed it. There is no enhancement in our bug database for it. There is a bug that was addressed some years back to ensure that on disconnect the PL/SQL Editors are automatically closed.

  • How to quit all open applications/windows?

I have had Leopard since Halloween. How can I quit/close all open windows/applications in one fell swoop rather than go through the Dock and quit/close each one separately?

An easier way might be to do an Option , Command, Escape ... and force quit all the apps.
At least you would know for sure what is open .... rather than relying on the semi invisible dock indicator ...
Probably faster too ... unless there is some issue about force quitting that I'm not aware of ...
You would want to quit all open apps on any software update, installation .. or when you're running something like Cocktail and cleaning your caches ....

  • X201s does not initiate hibernation on Fn+F12 just goes to login window

Hi! I have an X201s system on Windows 7 64-bit. Hibernation worked when I bought the machine factory-installed. I recently reinstalled the system from original recovery media then installed all updates through Microsoft and Lenovo update, then installed all my software. Now I have the problem that on Fn+F12 (or on selecting Start->Shutdown->Hibernate), the system only blanks the screen, but that's it, it does not even start to try to hibernate, it just sits there, and when I move the mouse I just get to the login window. I am already trough the following steps - Disabling and reenabling hibernation with powercfg -h off / on + reboot - Deinstalling, rebooting and reinstalling Power Management driver and Power Manager (currently running the very latest Power Manager 3.62 and Power Management driver 1.62) - Updating the BIOS to the latest through Thinkvantage toolbox. Power Manager 3.62 solved the gauge disappearing / background gauge monitor crash issue (see elsewhere on this forum), but the hibernation still does not work. Lenovo support only suggested to reinstall from recovery media, but what the heck, that's exactly what I have only so done, and I won't re-install all my software yet another time. I'm a freelancer and time is money, re-installation takes a week's work and this can't be the solution anyway. Does any community member have any further clues as to what I could do to debug the issue? How can I debug which driver or application is having trouble when I press Fn+F12? By the way, Fn+F4 sleep works normally. Best regards, Tobias

Hi, I checked all entries in the Windows event log down to Information level for the time when I pressed Fn+F12 and vor the last re-start before that. Nothing. There were no helpful entries at all during the time of the failed hibernation attempt, and during the last reboot, I only see errors about CdaC15BA.SYS and DgiVecp not being loaded. I should fix this, but i don't think it is related to my hibernation problem!? Best regards, Tobias

Consider adding more memory. Be sure you have adequate free space on the hard drive - 15 GBs or 10% of the drive's capacity, whichever is greater. Do not run too many applications concurrently. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on resolving the SBBOD.
    Do some maintenance:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Kappy's Personal Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
For disk repairs use Disk Utility.  For situations DU cannot handle the best third-party utilities are: Disk Warrior;  DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible. Drive Genius provides additional tools not found in Disk Warrior.  Versions 1.5.1 and later are Intel Mac compatible.
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep.  Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts was significantly reduced since Tiger.  These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard or Lion and should not be installed.
OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems. For more about malware see Macintosh Virus Guide.
I would also recommend downloading a utility such as TinkerTool System, OnyX 2.4.3, or Cocktail 5.1.1 that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old log files and archives, clearing caches, etc.
For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack.  If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the command line.  Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. There is no confirmation that this version also works with Lion.
When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand. I also recommend booting into safe mode before doing system software updates.
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
    Carbon Copy Cloner
    Data Backup
    Deja Vu
    SuperDuper!
    SyncTwoFolders
    Synk Pro
    Synk Standard
    Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQs on maintenance, optimization, virus protection, and backup and restore.
Additional suggestions will be found in Mac Maintenance Quick Assist.
Referenced software can be found at CNet Downloads or MacUpdate.
Be sure you have an adequate amount of RAM installed for the number of applications you run concurrently. Be sure you leave a minimum of 10% of the hard drive's capacity as free space.

For anyone else reading this thread, it is worth knowing that sometimes an email is, or can be, corrupted thereby jamming the works. The solution above is good, but I just wanted to suggest another one.
If the problem arises, go to an online mail access service, such as Mail2Web.com and login to you mail account there and delete the offending message.
    Problem solved.
And George, as this is all entirely voluntary, whinging about no takers may not endear people to you. Besides which, a few minutes of searching on Google would have found you a number of solutions.

In Mountain Lion, sometimes when I open Mail on the dock with a single left mouse (or touchpad) click, the Mail application opens, as shown in the menu bar, but a mail window doesn't open. NOPE!  Do you have open at login enabled?  Is Mail listed in Login Items through System Preferences?

  • Annoying: Mail app opens randomly after screen saver login

    Hi
I have my security settings setup so that everytime my iMac goes into screen saver mode it asks for login password. Recently I have noticed that if I leave the computer unattended for a long period of time (a few hours) and come back, the mail app opens up. If I just go away for a few minutes and come back the problem does not occur.
Since I am not using the mail app and have not set it up, the setup account window is the one to come up.
I have checked the Login Items under Accounts in System Preferences and it's not there. I have also right clicked the icon in the dock and checked if it was set to start up automatically - it isn't.
I have read online this maybe has something to do with email alerts from iCal but I have not set up iCal to send email, nor do I know where I can disable that type of feature. This is happening even when iCal is closed and I have no events for that day. I've looked around in the prefrences of iCal and disabled any option that has something to do with email but it still happens.
The next logical step was to check Activity Monitor to try and see what started a process. You see I am originally a Windows user and have recently converted my OS religion. Back in Windows when something like this happened I had many tools that could tell me what started the application and even it's command line. But with the Mac all i have is the activity monitor and I'm still not familiar. I have clicked the process and then inspect, the parent process indicated launchd, pressing that lead me to another inspector window still without much info.
How can I solve this, it is becoming rather annoying?
Also does anyone know a better process monitor for mac? or how to use top on the terminal to get the information I need?
Please help a confused new mac user!
    Thanks

So I've tried both of the tips you gave my guys, but non of them works
But I've found out something. When I switch to different space (in spaces), than drop some file and then try to switch back to my mail space, there are 2 possibilities how to do it. First - I just move mouse to the space to where I want to switch, wait for a second and it switch automatically or I can move mouse to the space where I want to switch and than press spacebar to make it faster.
The strange thing with opening app from dock happens just when I press the spacebar.
And question for your other answer - yes, it happens just with apps in my dock.
    It is so uncomfortable...
EDIT: few days ago I've run OnyX (which was probably mistake) and this happens probably since than. I used it because Snow Leopard got little bit slower so I wanted to clean it... It might be because of that.

  • Apps opening but can't use them, no application window

I am posting this for a friend of mine who is having a real problem.
he restarted his MacBookPro and now suddenly he can't use any app. the apps open in his dock, they are in the force quit window. when safari is running; he clicks it but no window opens for him to use it. all apps are doing this.
he also tryed to repair disk permaissions from the cd, disk utility started but he haad no window where he could get it to chack the permissions.
anyone know what this could be?

    Still wrote:

This is the odd part... that booted from a different disk, he experiences the same issue.
Did he follow this course to Repair Disk...
    Steps for using Disk Utility:
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Tiger Install disc or Install Disk 1 that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair.
If he did that, then I would next try resetting PRAM and NVRAM/PMU reset
If that fails to help, run Apple Hardware Test:
    1. Disconnect all external devices from your iMac except the keyboard and mouse.
If you have an Ethernet cable connected, disconnect it.
    2. Insert the Mac OS X Install Disc 1 that came with your iMac.
    3. Restart your iMac and hold down the D key as your iMac starts up.
    4. When the Apple Hardware Test chooser screen appears, select the language
    appropriate for your location.
    5. Press the Return key or click the right arrow button.
    6. When the Apple Hardware Test main screen appears (after about 45 seconds), follow
    the onscreen instructions.
    7. Apple Hardware Test displays an error code if it detects a problem. Make a note of the
error code before pursuing support options.

  • Safari will not open a window when "open at login" is enabled

I seem to be having this issue where I can't seem to get a Safari window to open at login. I've tried many many settings from disabling the pop-up blocker to application permissions, it just doesn't want to open a window upon login. The icon in the dock has the indicator light that it is open, but no window appears.
I had no issues with this up until the past few updates that were done. I don't have any 3rd party plug-ins installed and it happens on both my Macbook Pro and Mac Mini and it is not profile specific.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have iTunes, latest version, open in Windows XP and get an error 45048 message when I try to update apps thru the store. How can I fix this? I have reinstalled iTunes twice but problem continues.

Try contacting iTunes via email to check if there is an issue with the account. go to apple.com/support/itunes
Click on iTunes Store account and billing and select inquiries. On the right side click on "email us".
Before doing that trying viewing your account information first. Open the iTunes on you mac, look at the menu and select store and select view my account. Try removing the card (this is only applicable if you don't have a pending charges with iTunes) and hit done. Sign out, quit iTunes and sign back in and try updating the apps again.
