Mouse freezes when not moved

If I stop moving the mouse for few seconds, then I need to move it for about 2-3 seconds before the cursor starts moving again.
It is a wireless Logitech mouse. I suppose it has something to do with USB ports or mouse going to sleep.

You don't have to disable the usb-autosuspend of laptop-mode. You just have to add the device in the black list of the autosuspend configuration.
edit this file:
       /etc/laptop-mode/conf.d/usb-autosuspend.conf
the USBID blacklist doesn't work for me but I used the USBTYPE blacklist with "usbhid",
and then reload the configuration with:
    systemctl restart laptop-mode.service

Power Mac G4 Cube   Mac OS 9.0.x

    Hi, Fuggles -
Since the mouse freezing appears to be specific to an action in OS 9, it should not carry over to OSX.
Some concerns about installing Tiger (OSX 10.4) -
    • Firmware
Be sure you have updated the firmware in that machine before installing OSX. You can download the appropriate firmware updater from this Apple KBase article -
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75129
    <hr>
    • OS 9 version
The preceding firmware update installs only when the machine is running OS 9.1 or OS 9.2.x from its hard drive. And, if you plan to use OS 9 as Classic under OSX, it must be at least OS 9.1; OS 9.2.x provides better compatibility for that mode.
Therefore, you should update your OS 9.0.x to at least OS 9.1, and perhaps to OS 9.2.x. You can do that using download updates, which you can get from these Apple pages -
Article #75103 - Mac OS 9.1 - Download and Info
Article #120030 - Mac OS 9.2.1 - Download and Info
Article #75186 - Mac OS 9.2.2 - Download and Info
Note that those must be installed in sequence; none can be skipped. However, you can skip the need to obtain one or more of those large downloads if you get a retail OS 9.1 or a retail OS 9.2.1 Install CD, and do a direct install of that version.
    <hr>
    • Startup Disk
The version of Startup Disk control panel that comes with OS 9.1 and earlier is not capable of 'seeing' OSX as a valid OS, hence switching to OSX from OS 9.1 or earlier can be difficult. However, there is a solution - download and install a replacement control panel, which can be got from this article -
Startup Disk 9.2.1 Document and Software
Note - in spite of what that article states, that replacement control panel will work in OS's earlier than OS 9.1; it as been tested successfully in OS's as old as OS 8.6. It is not needed for OS 9.2.1 or later.
    <hr>
    • RAM
The requirements for Tiger state a minimum of 256MB of physical RAM; a minimum of 512MB is more realistic. More RAM is better.
OSX is much pickier about RAM than OS 9 is. If your machine has any after-market (non-original) RAM in it, it would be a good idea to download and run DIMM First Aid. That utility can do some basic tests, but more important;y it can repair some sub-spec modules so that they are compliant with Apple's specs.
Note - do this before installing the firmware update mentioned above.
    <hr>
    • Hard drive space
Tiger will need about 3GB in order to install, and runs best when there is an additional 5GB of unused space on the drive (it uses that space for its version of virtual memory, swap files, defragging on the fly, etc.). It would be best if your hard drive has at least 8GB unused space on it before installing Tiger.

  • Facetime keeps rotating screen when not moving, restart not helps

I am using ipad2, OS 4.3.1. facetime keeps rotating screen when not moving, and I restart ipad2 but it does not help. Is this due to earlier version of OS or it's a bug of facetime?

It is odd that your screen will only rotate without you touching your iPad, during a factime call.  In all the factime calls I've made, I've never had my screen rotate if I wasn't touching my unit.  I will say that the gyro on both my iPads is pretty sensitive and I've found it quite easy to get the screen to rotate with a simple movement of my iPad.
The only other suggestion I have is one that will take more effort and work and still, it may not solve your problem.  It is one Apple will request you do, before making an appointment with the Genius bar, so you might as well do this.
You should back up your iPad, then restore your iPad from the backup.  If that does not solve the problem, the last option is to do a full restore of your iPad as a new unit.  Then, you'll sync over the content you want from Apps, to music, to pictures, etc.  Again, before you do either a restore from backup, do back it up.
If all that doesn't solve your problem, make an appointment with the Genius Bar at your Apple store.  If they find you have a deffective unit, they will replace it.
I hope you get this resolved.

  • Keyboard and mouse freeze when trying to play Maplestory

I recently purchased a Macbook Pro and have boot camped Windows XP sp3 onto it.
I play a game called maplestory, and when I try to play it via boot camp, my keyboard and mouse freeze as soon as all of the intro splashes are done (So, once I get to the log in screen).
All background programs work fine, however since I can't use my keyboard or mouse I can't do anything. The Apple Remote also doesn't function.
This problem seems to be exclusive to Maplestory, as games such as Warcraft 3, Diablo 2, Doom3, and Portal all work fine.

  • S430 trackpad and now mouse dragging when not needed

My S430 is generally up to date with all drivers and software. Runs Windows 7 64.
Some weeks ago the trackpad starting being a real problem - perhaps after an update. When I use it to move the cursor instead it acts to select text or to pick up and drag items. This became a real problem. I was in an area of high humidity and this was mentioned as an issue so I just used the trackpoint or external mouse instead.
Now today for a short time the external mouse was also doing the same thing. Without touching the mouse keys, *even just moving the mouse around* was picking up and dragging elements around the screen or selecting text. You can imagine this is very frustrating when unwanted.
I have changed the mouse settings with no luck. Any suggestions very welcome. I am starting to think the solution might be to go back to older versions of drivers perhaps.

    Hi Nickb99,
I am sorry for the situation and I understand your concern, however we will check with this last option on the Synaptic driver.
Please download the Synaptic driver from the below link and install it. After installing restart the system and check if the issue still persists or not, if the issue reoccurs then uninstall it an use the Windows generic driver.

    Hope this helps!

  • Please help: My MBP freezes when not connected to a power supply.

When I am working on my MBP (specs below) without it connected to the power supply, it will freeze every once in a while. I have no option but to hold down the power button to do a hard restart – and then it takes a good five minutes to boot back up.
Does anyone know what the problem might be? It NEVER freezes when it is connected to power.
BTW – the MBP freezes randomly, *sometimes the battery will be near full, sometimes only half full,* so I don't think it has to do with the amount of power left in the battery.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

there is definitely a problem Apple must solve, i have this issue too.

  • Mouse freeze when surfing the internet

HELP! For no apparent reason the mouse all of a sudden stops responding and sits dead on the screen after surfing on the internet. How do I reset the mouse or is there another way to handle this?

When you say it freezes does it turn into the a spin wheel that is spining? Or does the mouse completely just stop and get stuck? Are you using the trackpad or a External Mouse? Because there are so many reasons why.
    1. When this happens how many applications do you have open? The more applications that need more memory makes the computer slow/freezes when it tries to catch up to itself.
If you can click outside of safari that means that the program itself is frozen where you will need to either press
    b Command/Apple + Option + Esc
to force quit it. or go to
b Apple Menu - Select Force Quit - Pick the application you want to quit
I don't really know what exactly is going on with your iBook, If you provide more information about everything that you are doing when this happens theres a better chance the problem will get solved. I hope I helped out a bit.

  • USB mouse freezes when external HD is connected

Not sure who to contact on this one.  I purchased some music software from East/West and it came on a Western Digital hard drive.  Every time I connect the hard drive, my mouse freezes and I can't open the drive.  Any ideas???  Sounds like a compatibility issue but the HD is supposed to be for Mac.

    - Have you tried another cable for HD?
    - If you open Finder. unplug the mouse and then plug the HD in does the HD appear in Finder (it has to be formatted for a Mac to appear)
    - Have you tried on anther computer? Either Mac or PC.
    - Do other devices like USB thrumb drive work on the Mini?

  • Mac Mini mouse freezes when connected to interactive white board

Our school district has several Mac Mini's (OS 10.4.11) connected to interactive white boards (Smart). With regularity the mouse and/or keyboards will "freeze", often in the lower left hand corner of the screen, and will only operate normally when the USB cord for the Smartboard is disconnected. Then all functions of the computer return. This effectively means that the interactive whiteboard is no longer useful. Has anyone else encountered these issues with Macminis? Could it be a software issue??
Additionally I have had constant problems with our Mac minis "freezing" in our computer lab when students are working on them. If they have several applications open this happens regularly. Are these machines prone to freezing?

Yes sounds like you already know the answer. I'd contact Smart or whomever makes this whiteboards to see if they know about compatibility with the macmini's you use.
As far as being prone to freezing no I've not seen any long or lengthy threads about freezing or other such complaints around here so I don't think so.
I've had my mini for almost a year now and push it pretty hard and find it almost impossible to make it freeze, reboot, lockup or any such thing myself.

  • Mouse freezes when opening multiple windows

With web browser open and several other windows, mouse seems to freeze with random jerky movements.  I can eventually drag the cursor up to the Apple logo to restart system.

    Dear all,
I think I have the same problem... or not ?!
=> When I try to open multiple files at the same time it opens only the 2 or 3 first ones then it freezes on the Spinning Beach Ball of Death !
=> Then it never completely finishes loading and freezes up Indesign.
=> I am unable to cancel the dialog box and have to use cmd+alt+esc to close the program
=> then, the files open directly on indesign when I open the program again (jus as if the files had been loaded and ready to go)
I am working on MAC OS X (10.7.3)
Anybody could help please ?? (sorry for my english... I'm a French native speaker)

  • Microsoft standard optical wireless mouse freezes when Mac sleeps

When G4 sleeps for a few minutes or more the Microsoft standard optical mouse is frozen on wake up. Takes about a literal minute to un-freeze. Once unfrozen mouse behaves normally. This problem began about a month ago perhaps about six weeks ago.
No amount of clicking or keyboard manipulation helps. Unplugging and re connecting the transmitter from it's USB port is sometimes successful at unfreezing but not always. Rarely the Mac is totally frozen and cannot even be power cycled. Only unplugging or turning off the power at the surge protector breaks the freeze. I have tried totally uninstalling the mouse and re-installing without benefit. I have reset power management and cleared p-ram, run disk warrior and disk utility.. no impact on the problem.
    Thank-you for any help.

    Hi, Robert -
A couple of issues may pertain.
    • Hardware
I use MS Intellimouse Explorer mouses with my G4s - I like the extra buttons and the 'feel' of the mouse. I had problems initially - after a few months of use the mouse, and sometimes the keyboard, would freeze (cease working) - sometimes unplugging and replugging would fix it, sometimes a reboot was necessary. Finally the keyboard died completely.
After replacing the keyboard I came across Apple KBase Article #58649 which led me to believe that the power requirements from the mouse might be overloading the keyboard. I reconfigured my USB setup so that the keyboard was connected directly to the Mac and the mouse to a port in the powered hub in my monitor. I have not had that problem since then (several years).
    • Software
I don't know about the OSX version of MS's mouse software, but the OS 9 version of it is lacking somewhat, and, in my experience, is not reliable. I use USB Overdrive instead of MS's mouse software - it's very stable and offers more features and controls than the MS software does. There is a version of it available for OSX.

  • SQL-Devlp. Freezes when not executing, but just clicking on Trigger to Edit

Yes: SQL-Developer Freezes Every Time I Click on a Trigger just to edit it, even though the trigger is disabled. How do I get SQL-Developer to stop freezing-up and making me re-boot every time I even just click on a Trigger to select it, so that I can then rt.-click and edit it. Sometimes, SQL-Developer won't freeze immediately upon selecting the Trigger with my mouse, it will allow me to rt.-click to bring up the pop-up menu where I then try to click on "Edit" so I can change the same trigger, & as soon as I choose "Edit" SQL-Developer freezes-up -- must reboot.
Also, one time I dropped a Trigger altogether in SQL-Developer, not just disabled it, but SQL-Developer was still launching the supposedly "dropped" trigger (the trigger also no longer appeared as an item under "Triggers" tree view) when I ran
a SQL Script that did INSERTs: this supposedly dropped Trigger that no longer appeared anywhere in SQL-Developer was still executing (I could tell because I was getting ERROR MESSAGES in the Messages box) and the Trigger that I had executed the DROP command on from within SQL-Programmer really was only dropped and stopped executing after I re-booted. Can you help me?
My immediate problem is the one above though. Do I need to create a Schema-Level Trigger to disable or drop all Triggers when I first logon (triggered by my logon system event), and then they will "CREATE" properly and stop freezing up and acting weird?

Please add more details. Os, Java version, database version, sql dev version + patches + extensions, install type (with or without java)
By 'restart', do you mean sql dev or the entire computer?

  • Mouse freeze when plugging my iPod in my Laptop...

    Hello,
This is the 2nd post I'm posting due to very strange iPod behaviour... As well as not being seen in my iMac, I have noticed a strange thing with my XP laptop at work : when I plug my iPod, the mouse plugged into the laptop freezes...
Anyone had the same issue? What to do???
For info : my laptop is an IBM T42, into a docking station and with a IBM mouse plugged into the docking station...
Thank in advance for your help!

First of all, thanks for your answers!
Scott, I indeed loaded the latest drivers of the mouse but this does not solve the issue : same blocked USB mouse while plugging the iPod...
Now, it is true that I can still use the keypad of the laptop. The only problem I have is that the laptop is on my left, and I am right-handed... And what is the point of having a real mouse at work if it was to use the keypad...
I even noticed a starnger thing : in the device manager, my HID complient mouse totally disappears while plugging the iPod...
So anyony having the same trouble? Anyone found a solution to this???
Thanks in advance for your help!
    Jean-Denis
