Mouse glitch

I have a new and mysterious problem with any and all mice plugged into my iMac. Seemingly at random, the left-click suddenly behaves like a right click, and won't stop unless the mouse is unplugged and resets itself. Clicking a browser button, for example, suddenly turns into a popup menu.
Happens with Mighty Mouse and two others I've tried, so it's not the mouse. I've tried plugging the mouse directly into the USB port on the Mac instead of the keyboard port, but no effect.
It happens in any and all applications with no warning. I have reset PRAM, and repaired Permissions. Still does it.
Any clues?

I posted the below post in a different forum and then saw this one.
I'm having some kind of similar issue with my mouse. I just bought a brand new 17" iMac and the mouse has been doing crazy things. Basically it operates the expose all on its own and i'm not accidently touching the side buttons. Here's the weird part. It doesn't do it at the Apple authorized dealer where I purchased the computer. I was just there fiddling around with it and the problem would not arise. As soon as I return home I have this weird probelm with my mouse. It's not the surface as i've tried a bunch, it's not the outlet as i've tried a bunch (brand new building), I've turned off bluetooth, same thing, i've turned off airport, same thing. I hear all these clicking sounds in the mouse and as i move the cursor within an application it automatically starts moving other windows around out of my control. This makes no sense to me in my experience with computers and it would not do any of this at the computer store. Interestingly enough it also did it with my old mini but not my new macbook.
I've done a full erase and install. I've repaired permissions. I've done everything. My macmice works fine but it doesn't have expose capabilities. This is really weird.
Any thoughts to this weird problem?

  • Source Mouse Glitching

    Hello all,
I have noticed that when I move my mouse up in a source game installed with the native steam client all mouse buttons stop working. e.g. if I was looking down, then looked up, none of my mouse buttons would work until I make a downward movement again; and any buttons depressed before I move my mouse down seemingly continue to be depressed.
This issue is not present with other games or in wine and also not present on my windows partition.
    Thanks,
(what logfiles should I be submitting for this?)

  • My Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop CS6 aren't opening...

Hello, I am having issues with my Illustrator and Photoshop CS6.  Both software are encountering different issues. For Illustrator, the issue is that when the software is trying to start up, it crashes unexpectedly (it seems to get stuck on the "ColorHarmony.aip" then quits). Illustrator opens maybe 5% of the time when i sit there and try to open it, but its rare to get it to work.
For Photoshop, it crashes 50% of the time during start up (similar to Illustrator), but the main issue with Photoshop is that when it actually opens, everything becomes incredibly slow. The mouse glitches and it takes extremely long for anything to actually work, I can't even select tools because the mouse glitches so bad.
    inDesign however is completely fine.
I own the Adobe Creative suite : Standard
My computer is a HP Envy laptop with windows 8.1. It has 16b of RAM, an i7 processor and has a nvidia geforce graphics card.
I have already un-installed and re-installed the software and even did a system restore and it didn't solve the issue.
Please help I need this for school.
    Thanks,
    -Eric

Eric you have not posted any installation errors thus I moved this discussion to the Illustrator forum.  I would recommend you post any specific launch error or performance inconsistencies in the forum relevant to that software title.  You can find a list of available forums at https://forums.adobe.com/welcome.

  • Urgent USB problem

I just purchased a Satellite C55-B200 exactly 2 weeks ago today, and I was told that I have exactly 15 days that I can bring it back and get it switched out if need be, so I've got to make a move no later than tomorrow if needed.
I am completely pleased with my computer and would gladly take a trade if necessary.
My problem is simple: 2 out of the 3 USB ports on it don't seem to be functioning right. The reason why I didn't notice earlier is pretty simple: For one of them (the only one on my left when facing my screen), I always had the mouse plugged in, and haven't been gaming or anything like that on it so I didn't notice anything was wrong with it, and I never kept anything in one of the USB ports on my right side.
What happens is pretty straight forward. Anytime I put any USB device in the USB plug on the right side of my computer I get a message saying that it wasn't recognized, and can't open it. However, if I put the same drive in either the USB 3.0 plug or the plug on my left it works just fine (the USB 3.0 plug works indefinitely, the one on my left has some problems). On my left, I just began hooking up hard drives, and I've noticed that no matter what I do the drive seems to disconnect and reconnect for no reason whatsoever. When I just had a mouse in it I think I was chalking it up to just a little cheap mouse glitch (was using my portable mouse on it). But that's not the case.
Every single one of my hard drives not only work completely fine, but I can plug them into the USB 3.0 drive and run them with no issue. That goes for both flash drives and external hard drives (only one of which is actually a usb 3.0 device). But, when put into the other plugs, they always malfunction (non-workable the 2.0 plug on my right, and constant random disconnects the usb clum on my left).
This is a major problem for me, because I've got a large library of things I was planning on moving using this computer, but if only 1 USB port reliably works I'm in trouble.
This computer is pretty new (2 weeks old), and has only done one major update. I'm not sure if this could be a software glitch or if it could be a hardware glitch.
If it is a hardware glitch (or more than likely is) I need to get it changed out now later than tomorrow. I don't like making a fuss over things like this, but typically I use at least 3 USB inputs on average (counting the mouse), so having a malfunctioning computer that can only use 1 inpute reliably really messes me up. I don't know if it might be some kind of software thing or a hardware problem.
Thank you guys for any assistance!
EDIT: Just for clarification, I bought it from Best Buy.

I would give it back to Best Buy for one that works!  You shouldn't have to "fix" a new computer, particularly with problems that will probably turn out to be hardware related.

  • Glitchy cursor and tool selection problems

    Hello all,
I recently updated to the latest version of Premiere Pro AND OS X Yosemite. Today I opened Premiere for the first time since the update and started editing.
Upon editing I began to realize that every time I try to make an edit buy using the razor tool, or any tool for that matter the mouse glitches.
For example: When I try and grad the end of a clip and drag, the cursor bounces between the red arrow and my mouse cursor. Does that make sense?
Also, when I have ANY tool selected it shows my mouse cursor in stead of the icon for the tool. And when I have the selection tool selected to drag a clip it is selecting the rolling edit tool, or the ripple edit tool making it almost impossible to make the edits that I need.
So, my question is, Is this a Premiere Pro bug or a Mac bug? And can I go about fixing this somehow?
Thanks for any help you can give me.

I did just find out that the new hard drive that was put into my computer (i needed more space) is a hybrid. Is this going to be a big factor to these problems? Both me and the other co-worker have hybrid hard drives.

  • Mouse Cursor glitching out

    Hi there,
While playing Starcraft 2 my mouse cursor has been glitching out randomly. The problem occurs usually after playing for about a half hour or so online. odd lines will pass through the curosr messing up the pixels. I have been looking for solutions for the problem for a while. It appears as though this is a problem that has been fixed with new updated drivers from ati. Unfortunately my laptop has been preventing from updating the driver, here is my specs:
    HP DV6 3077ca
    i5 430m
    4gb ddr3
    ati mobility radeon 5650
So my questions are, is there a chance HP will update these drivers? or is there a work around for this problem?

Uninstall ATI display drivers and synaptics touchpad drivers through Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features . Restart the computer and install the ones mentioned below.
    AMD High-Definition Graphics Driver(v8.771.1.0)

  • My speakers are making a stuttering noise and the mouse is flickering   random software glitches

    Hi
as soon as I boot my speakers are making a stuttering noise unless I turn them down to nothing. this noise will continue while I work if I turn my speakers up.
But if I watch or listen to anything the noise is gone.
The mouse flickers and links on the desktop open without me wanting them to.
When I go under the Apple Icon TRHS the menu flickers and behaves strangely.
    What could be happening ?
Thanks for any help you can give me.

Thanks for your replies, I have done a re-boot from disc utilities and repaired and verified disc and permissions.
This cleaned it up. But then I logged into LinkedIn using Safari ....the program froze when asked to link to one of my contacts. All of the bugs then returned. Only the combo of LinkedIn and Safari cause the problem . Other browsers work perfectly.
I would like to eliminate all bugs this combo causes - does anyone have a fix ?

  • Moving clips...fce drops the clip as soon as mouse stops... quirky glitch?

Ok so i have a bit of a problem with FCE. I am trying to move clips around in the timeline. I can move them, but as soon as I stop moving the mouse the clip just gets dropped onto the timeline.
any idea on how i can turn this function (or does it sound like a bug?)

no its not snapping. I'm litterally dragging the clips around, and as soon as I stop dragging it just drops the clip like onto the timeline.
sorry for my inaccurate explanation. I'll boot up FCE and try again to make sure its not just a 2-3 times thing.

  • Lost the "Edit" option and now cannot paste. My right mouse has a glitch and I can't paste into an email which is a huge detriment. Need the old "Edit" option.

I'm a writer and rely on being able to link to various online publications I have. I used to be able to highlight the link and go to the top of Firefox, into the "Edit" section, hit "Paste" and it landed where I wanted it. I have a glitch in my ability to right click and paste so relied heavily on having the Firefox option (similar to any Word program). It's now gone and I'm lost. I just responded to an add for a writer, needed to paste in my links, and was horribly frustrated because I couldn't do it without a huge amount of irritation, going back & forth to the site, typing it in manually, etc., etc. Please tell me I can get this back...

    Follow these steps:
#highlight something on a page to copy,
#click Firefox button, click small arrow/triangle to the far right of Edit, the word "Copy" should now be highlighted/darkened
#click to where you want to Paste what you just copied
#click Firefox button, click small arrow/triangle to the far right of Edit, the word "Paste" should now be highlighted/darkened
NOTE: you can always highlight, then use Ctrl+C to Copy, click where you want to paste, use Ctrl+V to paste. Those are standard Windows keyboard shortcuts for Copy and Paste..

  • Help please! Strange glitch having to click mouse multiple times to save a file

    Hi,
I'm having a strange issue with Adobe Illustrator CS5 when I try to save as pdf. Basically I have to click save multiple times, sometimes over 100 times before it will ultimately save. Has anyone else encountered this weird problem and if so did you manage to find a resolution? I'm working on PC with Windows Vista.
Many thanks in advance for any help - it's driving me crazy!

    Hi OB,
Thanks for the reply. I had recently installed drop box so removed this hoping it might be the culprit, unfortunately not though, the problem remains.
I've also tried the 'usual suspects' without any luck either.
It really is an odd problem and not one I've encountered before. I also have an occasional issue whereby I'm unable to 'save for web' (only in Illustrator) - the option isn't selectable and even the keyboard short-cut doesn't work. It's glitch galore some days!

  • Strange mouse/keyboard glitch

    Hiya,
I've got this weird problem: every now and then if I move my mouse while pressing a key on the keyboard, my mouse goes berserk. For a few seconds the pointer jumps around the screen, possibly opening random menus, windows etc...
Has anyone ever run into a similar problem? Any ideas what might be causing it? A driver problem? A problem with the window manager?
I'm using Fluxbox, haven't tested other WMs. I also have Windows 2000, but haven't encountered the same problem there. I've tried a couple of mice, both ps2 and usb, but all work the same. (I haven't tried other keyboards.)
Any help would be appreciated. It's not a huge problem, but it can be quite annoying at times... (And I can't play Doom, cause I would need to use the keyboard and mouse together all the time!)

xorg.conf contains (posting only the stuff that looks most relevant):
    Section "ServerLayout"
    Identifier "Layout0"
    Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0
    InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard"
    InputDevice "Mouse0" "CorePointer"
    EndSection
    Section "InputDevice"
    Identifier "Mouse0"
    Driver "mouse"
    Option "Protocol" "ImPS/2"
    Option "Device" "/dev/psaux"
    Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
    EndSection
    Section "InputDevice"
    Identifier "Keyboard0"
    Driver "keyboard"
    Option "XkbModel" "pc105"
    Option "XkbLayout" "fi"
    EndSection
So. I'm really no guru at this stuff, and relatively new to Linux, too... A driver issue has always been my top suspect, but I just don't know enough about this stuff to make judgements or modifications myself. (And I've been too lazy to really delve into it.)

  • [solved] Glitch with mouse support on Toshiba C855 series laptop

Toshiba Satellite with 1 dec 2012 installed. Trackpad suddenly died.

Lol? You seem to have mistaken this forum for ICanHazArch; which it is not.
Once you have changed your thread title, check your Xorg log for clues...

  • Glitch?  track creating a new track...

ok, so lets say I have 3 tracks... and in my window, you can see both "tracks"' and "mixer"(with volume/pan/level)
when I push the big "+" to add a new track, it "collapses my tracks" ( as if I am pushcin the little arrow at the top right by "tracks") - now the mixer is no longer visible for each track...
so then, I push the arrow again, and each of the tracks fall down into their place, as they should, but only like part of the gray box for each track (like where it says new track) is visible... I have to roll my mouse over the box for the rest of it to show up.. does that make sense.. it seems like some sort of graphic glitch- it is the latest version of GB.. I don't get it... on top of all this, my mixers have dissapeared again too, so I have to push the arrow again..
in short, every time I create a new track, I have to click the arrow, then roll my mouse over the gray boxes for me to able to see them, then click the arrow again so the mixer pops back out.. its strange..
I am new to GB, but want to know if this has happened to others, or if anyone knows how to fix it.. its annoying!
    thanks
    in short, after I

I really appreciate that. I went through every setting I could think of and didn't "check" or uncheck the obvious.  Lifesaver.

  • How can I fix Dock/Mission Control/Launchpad? (Glitch)

    General Description
Mission Control and Launchpad glitch when invoked (whether by using the mouse or trackpad gesture). They seems to crash or quit, and then relaunch themselves (/itself - all the same app?), I know this because:
    they both, as well as Dock, become unresponsive;
    the desktop background images disappear temporarily (being replaced by blank light or dark grey);
    the Mission Control animation stops/freezes and does not execute properly (the windows stay still);
Dock becomes unresponsive as well as Launchpad.
This happens a lot (every other invokation) and seems to be random; it's annoying and is ruining my workflow, since I am a heavy user of multiple desktops.
    Behaviour
I usually have over ten desktops, all with active apps open at one time; when it glitches I can't even open or switch applications, though I can use the ones that are on the current desktop (if was trying to use Mission Control).
There is no correlation with the glitch and the amount of applications open, or how much RAM or CPU is active (still happens with only a few light apps open and a few desktops).
It does not matter whether I am using more than one monitor, the glitch still occurs.
It does not happen due to a particular open application, as I have tested with nothing open at all straight after a restart.
    Possible and tested causes
An application might be corrupting the glitchy app(s), since the disk breaks after being repaired in Safe Boot mode. Once the disk has been repaired, the glitch doesn't seem to occur until a few applications have been opened, though I haven't tested this much. (I am suspecting TheBrain, but not sure. Other potential culprits: Chrome, Mail, Firefox, Spotify, Skype, Dictionary, Activity Monitor, Finder).
It isn't the operating system itself because I have reinstalled it from Safe Boot mode, and yet the glitch persists.
The application(s) affected by the glitch may be corrupted, and need reinstalled - that is, if they weren't already by reinstalling the operating system (they are in the '/System/CoreServices' folder).
    Not-so-possible:
I doubt it is a virus - it would be a pretty pointless glitch for one to cause.
I have Time Machine running most of the time, but I have no reason to believe that is the cause.
I am using a NEET mini display port to HDMI adapter for my second monitor (no idea how that could be causing the issue).
    Help
Any ideas on what I could do to fix this?
And does anyone know how to reinstall Mission Control, Dock and Launchpad (I think they are all part of '/System/Library/CoreServices/Dock.app')? This might be worth a try.
    Specifications (just in case)
    2010 Macbook Pro
    2.8 GHz Intel i7
    8 GB memory
500 GB HD (two thirds full)
    Thanks for any help!

One thing I'd like for you to try: Create a new user account. Log into the new account and see if the same problems persist.
Many times such crashes are the result of corrupted preference or cache files. The above will eliminate these in the user account but not at the system level. So, I suggest you use a utility such as Lion Cache Cleaner 6.0.11 or Purity 1.10 to clear out cache files at the system level. I've never used the latter software but I, personally, use the former one on my computers.

  • 2010 Macbook pro freezes a lot, but mouse still moves. It unfreezes if you wait. It also hard crashes... Also, weird lines and screen flashes.

I have a 2010 Macbook pro running snow leopard (Mac OS 10.6.8).  First off, this has been the worst computer I've ever owned or have heard of someone having, Mac or PC.  There hasn't been a time where something hasn't been wrong.  I'm going to list my specs, my current problems and maybe list previous problems after that.  Any advice or suggestions would be great.  My brother works for apple out in Cali and I've been sending him crash and bug reports and he can't seem to figure out what's going on.
    Specs:
2010 Macbook Pro (Mac OSX 10.6.8)
Processor: 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory: 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics Cards: Intel HD Graphics (288 VRAM) and a NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M (512 VRAM)
(if you want more info, just ask)
To start things off, my computer hard crashes at random points playing basically any game.  StarCraft 2 (when I could play the game prior to Blizzard patching my OS out of the minimum requirements), League of Legends, MineCraft and others all crash while in use.  My computer screen suddenly flashes white and then to black and whatever audio may have been playing in the past second of gameplay is thrown into a constant loop.  The screen is solid black with no mouse and there is no keyboard functionality.  The only thing I can do is hold down the power button.  I first started noticing this problem back when StarCraft 2 Heart of the Swarm came out.  I would crash every 4 or 5 games in this way.  Since that was happening I resorted to playing other games such as League of Legends.  I wasn't having any trouble at all, but gradually it started to have the hard crashing issues.  Initially every handful of games, now it crashes in roughly 50% of the games I play.  This happens while I have NO other applications open and this has happened even after a complete restart with only 2 things opening at startup.  League started crashing in this way after I brought my computer in to have a fan replaced.
Another thing which has started happening since I had my fan replaced at the apple store: My computer has become very sluggish at times and my computer freezes in another way.  Many times a day, I will find I click on something in an application and the entire computer locks up.  There's no spinning beachball.  There's no movement of any sort on the screen and there is no button functionality, but I can move the mouse.  Clicking does nothing.  This sort of freeze lasts for about 30 seconds up to 5 or 6 minutes or so.  After that, it suddenly just decides to work again.  I can tell when it unfreezes because the clock in the corner jumps to the correct time.  This has happened frequently while using Google Chrome, Firefox and Safari.  It also happened while trying to use Skype.  It was freezing the most when facebook or youtube has been open, but it happens without that happening as well.  One of the first times I noticed it, earlier this year, I was searching for work and tried to go to this website: http://www.nhab.org/ (looking for a job).  It froze my computer as I described above (and I didn't know it would unfreeze after several minutes, so I thought my computer was completely frozen). I restarted, went to the same website and it froze again.  I did this a third time and it froze again, so I restarted again.  On the fourth try, it loaded.  The frequency of this problem is ridiculous.  I actually decided to delete Google Chrome from my computer (and its support files) since my computer would freeze the most often with Chrome (though I used Chrome mostly for youtube and watching tv shows online).  Almost instantly after deleting Chrome, my computer was running significantly faster.  things loaded quicker in other browsers and aplications loaded smoother.  My text no longer lagged when typing in facebook...  It hasn't solved the freezing, though the freezing tends to last less time now.
Another thing that happens, which I am not sure is normal: When my computer is booting, after the grey screen, it changes to light blue.  During this light blue time, often times white horizontal centimeter to inch wide bars will flash across the screen near the top.  This also happens on shutting down.  I also noticed that when it shuts down the screen doesn't just shut off.  The screen flickers quick for up to a second and then it is off.  It doesn't just turn off.
My computer has also occassionally flashed for a brief fraction of a second, to the blue start up color and back to whatever I am doing.
Those are all issues I am having right now and I am beginning to wonder if this several thousand dollar computer is capable of doing much more than just writing text..
    Prior issues I have had:
Right from the start, I have had major graphical issues which I showed to the people at the apple store and they reinstalled flash, but they really didn't know what was going on.  These glitches would tiles previous graphical things I had done in an artistic mozaic across my desktop, replacing my background image with broken mozaics.  It's hard to explain without showing, so here are 2 screenshots from it:
The people at the store thought it was just flash... but I don't understand how that could be flash.  I would have to flip through different desktop backgrounds I used to make it go away.  After it doing this for 2 years, it has only happened once since then and not very badly..
Another issue I had: The battery on my laptop just about exploded... I woke up one morning with my laptop sitting on my night stand as usual, but there was a small crack across part of my trackpad.  I was scared because I thought I must have done something... I went to the bathroom, took a shower and when I came back the crack was farther across the trackpad.  I had breakfast, came upstairs and my trackpad had 1 crack across the whole thing with multiple mini cracks going in every direction from it.  After telling my brother what was going on, he quickly said that it was the battery and to take it to a store.  I took it to the store and showed them what was happening and they very quickly took it out back and I quote "threw the battery in a firesafe immediately" because when they opened the laptop it started to quickly expand.  This ended up cracking my trackpad as well as bending the bottom of the body on the laptop.  All had to be replaced...
Then I had the fan sounding like a weedwacker, so I had it replaced a couple months ago and a couple months ago is when the freezing began, the computer started running slowly and all games crash the computer.
I have had a lot of things go wrong, not a lot of things go right and I'm really frustrated.  Can anyone tell me how to get my computer to stop freezing or how to make it stop hard crashing during any of the games I play?
Basically, what I have done so far is reset the PRAM I think?  I held command + option + P + R on start up and had it chime 3 or 4 times.  Other than that, I don't know what to do.... suggestions?

I just wanted to follow this up by saying that you were entirely correct in your diagnosis of the situation.  My computer did have the faulty part you linked to.  I brought my laptop in and specifically told them to run that test, had it fail and then argued with the person at the genius bar and the manager.  Eventually they offered to have it sent out and have everything replaced for free of charge.  They did so mainly because I had complained about graphical issues almost every other time I had come in with problems and no one ran the test.  They should have caught this problem during my warranty, but they didn't, even though I mentioned the problem.
Anyhow, after having the part replaced, I haven't had my computer crash a single time since, or had many of the issues mentioned above.  I've never had this experience before.  Even brand new, I got occasional crashes.  Hopefully this new trend continues.
I do find that web browsing is still incredibly slow.  Web browsers just chug along at a slow pace, even though I have great internet speed.  Maybe I'll try just deleting my web browsers and reinstalling them...
Anyhow, thank you for your help and knowledge Clinton.
