Mouse goes AWOL

For no apparent reason, the Magic Mouse pointer freezes. I do Prefs > Mouse and it says that the mouse can't be found. I do Searching and the pinwheel goes for some time. It than says "Mouse Found" but no change. I switch off the mouse (the mechanical switch on its bottom) and on, and its tiny green light flashes. Then "mouse found" but no change. I press Continue and after a few seconds the mouse works. Mouse battery = 55%.
My Magic Trackpad has no trouble.
Anyone else got this (my only problem with Lion, ain't I lucky!) New (2011) iMac 21".

If you have a multi-coloured Apple in the top left then: go to  Apple Menu > Control Panel > Monitor > In there you will find controls to adjust the CRT display up, down, left, right and the keystone. slowly adjust these until the whole display is visible on the screen.
If you have a blue Apple in the top left then do the same but go:  Apple Menu > System Preferences... > Displays > .
Let us know how you get on.

  • I want to know how to get the web addresses to go away that appear in the bottom left corner of the browser every time my mouse goes over a link

Any time that my mouse goes over a link on a web page a little box in the bottom left corner of the browser pops up showing the web address for that link and it is really annoying, especially when i am on facebook because there are so many links on the home page i cant move my mouse anywhere without that box popping up and blocking part of my conversations. I was wondering if there was any way to turn this off. I've checked through the options and to my knowledge there is no way to turn it off. Just wondered if anyone else has had this problem or knew if there was a way to get that box to go away.

Another option would be to use the following extension to push those messages into the status bar. It could be a convenient way to have your messages visible when you want them, but with less distraction.

Doesn't really sound like a virus.

  • Can I stop the "Attempting to Rebind" after EnvMgr goes AWOL...

    Hi All.
In the last few weeks I have had the Environment Manager (for development)
go AWOL in as many weeks.
During a restart - after cleaning up (stop/id) all other Forte processes - I
run into virtual memory limitations - and the restart fails.
A larger virtual memory quota (doubling the pagefile quota actually) did the
    trick.
However the quota is too large to be kept and I have reverted to 400,000
blocks (OpenVMS talk for about 200MB).
The problem appears to be caused by all this attempted rebinding.
"With Forte Release 3, this rebinding process is asynchronous" (see
    TN11537).
Q: Can I disable the attempted rebind so to reduce memory needs on a restart
    after the EnvMgr goes AWOL?
Supplementary Q: If so - How?
    TIA and Seasons Greetings,
    Dirk

  • PS2 mouse goes crazy on T8000

    Hi there,
When i trie to use a Trust optical mouse with my T8000, this mouse goes crazy. The "internal mouse" in the keyboard keeps working perfectly... but that's who wants to use that?
    Ideas anyone?

    Hi
It is not easy to explain why this happened. In my opinion you should try with another external mouse. Try also to disable internal mouse while you use an external one.
Check also BIOS settings. There is an option called Pointing Device or something like that. Try to change from Auto-selected to Simultaneous.

  • Mouse goes wild

    Hello,
I recently bought a new notebook with an NVidia Quadro 2100KM GPU. As the font sizes are very small, I adjusted font size from 125% (Default) to 150% via the Screen Resolution option on Windows.
However, when I ran InDesign, the mouse goes haywire near the toolbar. For instance, I couldn't click to change the font size. Some buttons worked, such as formatting, and the mouse was fine on the document itself. Due to 150% setting, InDesign's toolbars looked a bit fuzzy.
After changing font size back to 100%, the problem was resolved. But everything is really tiny again.
Is this a problem due to my GPU, and is there a way to resolve it while keeping font sizes large on Windows?
    Thanks.

What version of Windows? If 7, the only way to use large fonts and ID together is to turn off the Aero theme and use a classic one instead. See InDesign tools and panels don't respond to mouse clicks (Windows 7/Vista)

  • Mouse goes out - locks up G4

My Mac G4 933MHz with 10.4.11, intermittently locks up. It can go several days before this occurs.
What happens is the red glow in the Apple Mouse goes out, and nothing can be moved. The screen is still up and the clock is showing time, but there is no way, pressing any key, to unlock the computer.
The only way to get it up again is to pull the plug and restart it. It will not shut down if I press the start button on the G4.
Is there a combination of keys to make it reboot or function, or is this a more serious problem.

    Hi, pisquared -
If the machine is unresponsive to the keyboard, then no keyboard command will work.
The issue addressed in this Apple Kbase article may apply in your case -
Article #TA26015 - Apple Pro Keyboard: Devices Connected
Namely, that if your mouse is connected to a port on the keyboard, the mouse's demand for power may be overlading the ability of the unpowered hub in the keyboard to deliver it.
If this is the case, the solution is to reconfigure your USB connection scheme such that the mouse is connected to the other USB port on the back of the Mac, or to a port on a self-powered hub such as one in a monitor or a free-standing self-powered USB hub.
The same thing happened to me several years ago, to the point that the keyboard finally fried. After replacing the keyboard I came across the article I cited above and redid my USB connections, plugging the mouse directly into the Mac rather than into the keyboard. I have not had problems of that kind since then.

  • Problems installing OS  I have an iMac 21.5 (Mid-2010) and in trying to load a new hard drive, after choosing the installation disk the apple logo comes up and then stops and the keyboard and mouse goes dead.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks

    Problems installing OS
I have an iMac 21.5 (mid-2010) and I'm trying to install a new hard drive.  When I choose the installation disk the Apple logo comes up and it stops there.  Then the mouse and keyboard goes dead.  I'm trying to install 10.6.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks

Since you have a new hard drive, there is nothing on it, so you need to boot from an external source (and probably format the hard drive before installing an OS). Are you booting from the 10.6 install disk? Better yet - do you have a bootable backup clone or at least a Time Machine backup?

  • Mouse going bad?

    Hi All,
I couldn't find a discussion group that specifically addresses mice. If there is one, point me in the right direction and I'll re-post there. Here's my problem:
I have a wired mighty mouse. LOVE it! But, I think the left button area is going. It "lets go" or double-clicks when I don't. Which results in my having to select things twice, or undo, or whatever, which is annoying, as well as inefficient. The rest of it seems to be okay. A couple weeks ago the scroll wheel wouldn't scroll downwards, but it was fine in all other directions, and eventually worked itself out on its own.
So, thoughts? I haven't had this thing but a year maybe. I'd hate to have to buy a new one already.
    Thanks!--D

The standard hardware warranty on Apple computer products is one year (three years if you purchase the AppleCare Extended Warranty). If you've had the mouse less than a year, it's a clear-cut case; if you've had it say 13 months per your "about a year", then taking it to an Apple Store and politely describing the problem to whomever is staffing the Genius Bar may well indeed get you an exception (and a replacement mouse). Being nice does help!

  • Mighty Mouse going nuts

I'm using a Mighty Mouse, and earlier today it suddenly started going haywire-- repeatedly clicking the sidebars on its own when I so much as rested my hand on it. I had to disable the expose feature because it was firing off and on rapidly. The mouse is currently making intermittent clicking noises and I'm not even touching it.
I found a video of someone with the same problem here: http://www.vimeo.com/3553224 ... as well as a few other posts from people with the same problem, but seemingly no solution.
It doesn't seem to be a problem with the mouse itself, as I've switched it out for several other MMs, and the problem only occurs on whatever mouse is hooked up to this computer.
If someone has some help, I'd appreciate it. I've effectively lost side-click capabilities, and the constant clicking sound is very annoying.

I have been having the same problem with no solution. In addition to the mouse clicking noises and dark/light desktop in the video that Trapezzoid referenced, any open windows also jump on the screen when the mouse is moved.
I contacted Apple tech support once and she was unable to solve, told me to take it for service. Best Buy tech told me he had same problem and was some sort of a software conflict issue and advised me to live with it and try to figure out what was running when it happens.
Although I am enjoying this Mac after 15 years of microsoft products, this issue is unacceptable.
Appreciate any help. My Mac is less than 12 months old.

  • Mighty Mouse going crazy

    Hi,
When my mighty mouse first freaked out, it was time to clean him.. So problem solved but this time, he 's going nuts. When I only tough him, all of my windows disappear, the same way they disappear when you click to see your desktop.. When it goes that way, I try to click and when I do that it freaks out. My windows appear - disappear, appear - disapear. Only when I use the mouse-pad on my MacBook, it stops.. What could it be and can somebody please help me?

Are you using only a MacBook? Or is this connected to an iMac G5? In any case try resetting the PRAM and see if that calms the mouse down. You might also try changing your mouse pad to a solid color.

  • Mouse goes to upper left corner

I've noticed both on my personal computer (15" Macbook pro 2.2 GHz Core 2 Duo) both with Mac OS X 10.5.2 and my work computer (Powermac 1.8 GHz Dual) that when I wake it up from a time of idleness the mouse cursor goes to the upper left corner.
What makes it disturbin is that I have expose as a hot corner on the upper left.
Is it a bug or something I can fix by myself??

    Start with a PRAM zap:
    1. Hold down cmndopt+RP and start up.
    2. Hold the keys for 3 "bongs", and release.
If that does not help, restart with the Restore Disk, and run the Archive & Install. This is really easy, and very much not harmful or serious. It works quite well. When you get to the screen that lets you select the drive to A&I, hit the "options" button, and make certain "A&I is selected AND "save settings" (or something like that) is checked. Then complete the job, and run Software update after. I might suggest repairing permissions after the A&I, and again after the updates.
You might also want to add Disk Warrior from Alsoft to your arsenal.

  • Imac G%, Microsoft optical mouse goes psychotic...

Have an imac and using a Microsft Wheel Mouse Optical.
    Works great, except...
Sometimes, it goes 'psychotic'. Like click the left button and it acts like I clicked the right one.
Used to happen about once a month. Usually when it was on for a long time. A restart fixed it. Well, it's happened three times today... Reboots didn't fix it this time...
I've tryed swapping ports, both on keyboard and the back of imac. Chatted with Apple support and got the 'too many USB devices' thing. Is there a limit? Do un-connected devices cause some kind of phantom load?
Love the mac, love the 2 button mouse. Why do Apple notebooks only have one 'button'? Pain in the a__!!!
Any ideas, assistance? Apple support wants me to switch abck to the original mouse. Not even on a dare...

hey real gonzoid - I think I know what you're saying... you've got an iMac G5 and your using a Microsoft mouse with your machine instead of the original 1 button mouse or mighty mouse that came with your iMac...
I think one of the problems maybe that the Micorsoft mouse needs a USB 2.0 for high speed devices, the keyboard USB's are 1.1 not really useful for much, I can't even use these for Jump Drives or Digital cameras... this is probably why it's working now, you plugged into the back of machine using the USB 2.0. Hope this helps explain some of the stuff going on with the MS mouse.
BTW - if you got the 'mighty' mouse with your iMac, it's actually a '2 button' mouse and more, maybe a little better than the MS mouse... here's the link to mighty mouse thing for your reading pleasure... have a nice day, Good luck, Rick
