Mouse highlighting everything/trackpad pointer out of control

Snow Leopard installed - go to System Preferences --> Universal Access --> Mouse & Trackpad --> "Mouse Keys" to ON and click on "Ignore built in trackpad when mouse keys on.  Your trackpad is no longer sensitve to touch. Crazy highlighting stops!  I learned this from another apple solver - forgot the name!

You might try looking at the battery to make sure it's ok. The battery sits right beneath the trackpad and if the battery is faulty, it may swell in size placing pressure on the trackpad, which causes problems. Take out the battery and see if the trackpad feels normal. Also place the battery on a smooth flat surface and make sure it hasn't deformed in shape at all.

  • Trackpad out of control

    Hello,
i have a problem with my new MacBook Pro,
the mouse is out of control when I'm using the trackpad,
it randomly clicks, makes new folders, and it is totally out of contol,
    it looks something like this:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5fhMt73LtW4
when I use an Usb mouse it stops for a while,
i went to the apple store, and they replaced the trackpad, but the issue didnt go away...
i reset Pram and Smc but nothnig helped...
    Can anyone help me,
    Tnx

I have a somewhat similar annoying problem. As I type (clearly not touching the trackpad button) the mouse magically clicks. This either highlights what I just typed then deletes it with the next letter, or clicks another field so there is no cursor in the text field at all. I have applecare but I am in Thailand where I am unsure how good it will be. Also I can't be without my computer for long as I use it regularly for business.

  • My pointer is out of control. Jumps around the page and opens windows ands apps at random. How can I fix this?

Help. My pointer is out of control. It hardly responds to the trackpad. Instead it jumps around the screen on its own, opening windoes and app at random.
    At wits end. Any advice?

Try a PRAM reset, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379?viewlocale=en_US and if that does not help take the MBP to an Apple store genius bar and have the techs run their diagnostics.

  • Out of control highlighting

has anyone had a problem where you end up with an out of control highlighting situation where you have to force quit to make it stop?
if so...have you figured out why it might be doing that?
It's happened to me several times recently.

I'm scared when you talk about parts of my whole thing going suddenly kaput. One day they work. Next day they don't? I'm horrified. Years and years of my life...kaput...because of a font going kaput. Or a picture going kaput. Scary.
I can't believe we put our lives in the hands of machines that have parts and parts of parts that can go kaput. But we do. And I did.
I have backup. But just to be on the safe side I'm dissecting my story into 2 parts to keep things manageable. I'm where I can do that without it being an inconvenience during writing.
    I know I'm getting nervous.
This Pages doc is the only thing that is crashing on my machine.
I know I need more memory. But my machine only takes 1GB and it can't be made up with a second topping off chip. I'd have to fully replace this one 768MB chip I already have installed. I don't have the money anyway. At any rate, I have a full 45GB left on my machine. I'm way still conservative. So what's up?
It's not supposed to have a problem with length but I got it up to 1400 pages and things started acting funky and it's funkied 10 or 11 times in the past week. That document is my only problem.
The font I'm using is the Courier that came with the machine. It's fully validating as being A-okay to use.
dunno I'm confused. But I keep on writing. I'm determined to finished by the end of Summer.

  • My trackpad highlights everything when I drag over my desktop can anyone help?

My trackpad highlights everything on the desktop what can i do

It suggests that your trackpad may be 'stuck' in the down position.  Perhaps there is debris that is keeping it down.  Inspect carefully and open the MBP if necessary.  If no success, bring it to the Apple store genius bar and have one of the technicians have a 'go' at it.
    Ciao.

  • Satellite C660 - Touchpad highlighting everything it goes over

I have a problem with my Satellite C660 with the Synaptics touchpad V7.2 sensitivity. The cursor keeps highlighting everything it goes over and dragging the files or programmes or opening them.
It's driving me mad and restoring it to a previous date doesn't stop it, nor does clicking the tapping function off in the Synaptics properties box or reverting to default.
Anyone out there able to help?

    Hi
Try to install the Synaptics latest driver from the Synaptics driver page:
    http://www.synaptics.com/en/drivers.php
Furthermore you can adjust the touchpad settings in control panel -> mouse -> device settings -> settings button
Here you would find lot of different options which would improve the touchpad functionality.

  • IPhoto scrolls out of control

I'm really getting #$%&* off at iPhoto. I'm organizing a semi large library of just over 1000 images in approximately 120 rolls. Here's the problem: when I drag and drop images from one roll to another, at some point which I can't exactly determine, iPhoto kicks into overdrive and scrolls so fast that I can't see the rolls. If I try to reverse (inevitable as it's impossible to stop where you want when iPhoto is in Warp speed), all the while still holding down the click button on my mouse, iPhoto goes in reverse just as fast. It's impossible to stop and drop the image where I want. What usually happens is I just drop it somewhere and then have to re drag and drop to the correct roll.
Is there anyway of controlling the speed iPhoto scrolls at? When I first start dragging an image, iPhoto scrolls at an appropriate speed and slowly accelerates. Then, all of a sudden, like I said, it kicks in the afterburners and essentially becomes useless.
    Any help?

    TD.
Thanks, that's a useful article. I'll check out the USB overdrive and see if it has some functions I'd like.
But again, for me it's not a mouse issue. Unlike the article, I never have this problem outside of the library in iPhoto.
It happened again yesterday, so let my try to describe it more carefully.
I had just uploaded some pictures from a camera card into iPhoto. They were put in a new roll (as always). I wanted to move them up to an existing roll with pictures from the same card. I selected the new roll. Then I began to drag them up to the roll where I wanted them. I had perfect control with the mouse as I moved the drag image up the screen. But the target roll was above it, off screen. When I moved to the top where iPhoto begins to scroll the rolls downward, it was fine at first. I even am very careful to just let it scroll a little at a time, to keep it from accelerating (Notice that the mouse dosn't move much here, it's iPhoto moving the rolls to put them on screen.) I had no trouble getting my target roll onscreen, highlighting the roll name, and dropping in the first set of imports.
But when I uploaded more pictures on another new roll and tried to move them, iPhoto freaked out. Again I selected the new roll and dragged it up to the top of the window. With the mouse just inside the top of the window, where it activates iPhoto to move the rolls down, I could see the open target roll approaching as rows of thumbnails lowered on the screen. BUT, when it got to where the roll name should have been, iPhoto moved into warp speed and skipped a whole screenful of rolls in a flash. The target roll was now off screen below the window. So I had to move the mouse down and let iPhoto begin scrolling the rolls up. Nice and slow, a few rolls at a time (I keep the rolls I'm not using closed.) Then JUMP - iPhoto goes into hyperspeed again and scrolls the rolls up so that the target roll is again off screen above the window. Again, I moved up to the top so iPhoto would scroll the rolls down. Back and forth, up and down, it kept flying past my target roll. With the target roll open, I could get the rows of thumbnails on screen nice and slow. But I have to reach that roll name, or my photos won't drop into the roll. It's the roll NAME that keeps getting flown past. (As if iPhoto is rejecting more changes to that roll.) If I close the target roll, I can't come within 2 or 3 rolls from it before iPhoto goes warp. Eventually I managed to get the target roll on screen while the mouse was at the top and iPhoto was scrolling down. It scrolled very quickly, but I managed to catch it before it moved off the bottom of the screen. Then I moved my mouse slowly down toward the target roll, one roll at a time (dragging all the while, never releasing) and was finally lucky enough to have the roll name of my target roll stay put and become highlighted. I dropped in the new roll, and it was correctly added to the target roll.
The third time I uploaded and tried to move was even more difficult. It took even longer to catch the target roll on screen. Lots more up and down. All of my imports yesterday (3 newly created rolls) were placed into the same roll.
Jailer Joe, is this what happens to you?
Has anyone else seen or heard of this? Any thoughts as to why iPhoto's roll scrolling goes out of control?

  • Data point display when mouse hovers over data point in TCODE QGC1

    Hi experts,
Just want to ask if anyone knows how to add more data in the display when your mouse hovers over the data point in the control chart of transaction QGC1?
Because currently the control chart shows u201CSeriesu201D and u201CValueu201D, Iu2019m planning to add the inspection lot date when your mouse hovers over the data point.
Hope to have some response regarding this and thanks in advance

    Tohatsu,
I am not sure exactly what you are trying to do but the way you have went about doing things is not the way to code in LV. Fist off break your code into functional blocks and use these functional blocks as Subvi's. This will make your block diagram easier to read. Once you do this you can get rid of a lot of code. Also you need to learn how to use the event structure, right now the way your code is set up to use it is not correct. Have a look at the examples that ship with LV. i am not even going to begin to try to understand your code because the diagram is so large. Please do not take all of this the wrong way I am not trying to be hard on you or anything, I am just giving you some constructive criticism..
Break your code down into functional blocks and use subvi's to perform those blocks of code.
Have a look at the examples on how to use an event structure.
Have a look at state machines
You would also benefit from getting the book called Labview for everyone, third edition, jeffrey travis and james kring.
You have a lot going on in this VI. Use the eventstucture to your advantage instead of as a hinderence like it is now. the way your code is set up now everything runs in your while loop, then it waits for an event to fire. in your case the while loop will not run again until the mouse moves over the waveform chart. You are on the right track, you just need to get some fundamental basics down and you will figure out what is going on.
Thanks for converting the code to 8.0 for me.

  • Random things happening, mac out of control

    Hi,
I have been facing problems with my Mac. For the last 2 days random things have happened, like opening and closing files by itself, the mouse is out of control,  the webpages are zooming in and out by itself, typing is very difficult (the cursor changes randomly, it highlights and erase things I write by itself).
I have no idea of what's going on with it! It looks  like someone has invaded it.
It's updated, and I used an antivirus to check, nothings was found.
Does anyone knows what could that be, and how to solve it?
    Thanks,

If it's a MacBook Pro, then your battery may be old & swollen enough to cause the trackpad to misbehave.
If you have a mouse or external trackpad to test with : Enabling the "Ignore trackpad when mouse or wireless trackpad is present" feature

  • Mouse cursor snaps to point on screen

I posted this two days ago in the Mac Pro forum, but after searching for a solution since then, I've come to two conclusions: 1) the problem is not a hardware one and 2) using OS X without a mouse is horrendous. Forgive me for copying and editing my own original postings. First, here is a digest:
    - the cursor snaps back to its starting point on the screen after ca. 1/2 sec of movement, I can hardly move the cursor to halfway the screen before it snaps back
    - not a hardware problem, appears with Kensington Expert Trackball, Magic Trackpad, Apple Magic Mouse and keyboard used as mouse
    - not connected with a single user account, appears in the login screen, main user account and system operator account
    - the snap-to position differs in the login screen and user accounts
    - turning of the computer, unplugging does not work
    - resetting PRAM does not work
    - unplugging + replugging trackball USB-cable does not work
    - the problem appeared suddenly in mid of normal use.I had not changed in settings before the problem
Any ideas? Is it possible to contact someone at Apple directly?
    Below my original messages:
I started having a strange problem with the mouse cursor. I started the computer, the mouse worked fine as always. Suddenly the cursor started fixating on a point on the lower right portion of the screen. I would move the cursor, it would move maybe halfway across the screen for a split second and then snap right back to the starting position.
I tried shutting down the computer and restarting. Didn't help. The cursor behaves the same way in the login screen too. The only difference is that now the "homing position" is somewhere in the upper right part of the screen.
I have a Kensington Expert trackball and a Magic Trackpad. I've removed the trackpad, in case it had started interfering with the trackball (never done that before though). Didn't help. I've unplugged and replugged the trackball USB-cable, no help.
I had the Mac Pro unplugged for over a day as I was travelling and the Kensington Expert Mouse too. Behaved exactly the same when I switched on the computer again. I tried resetting the PRAM. Didn't help.
I don't know where the problem lies. The mouse cursor keeps snapping to a position in both the login screen and my user screen. The snap-back position is different in the different screens. The cursor returns to its position when both the Magic Trackpad and the Expert Mouse are connected or when only one of them is. I can move the cursor half a screen, then it snaps back. Clicking functions, but I never have any time to click anything when the cursor bounces back to its spot.
My final remedy would be reinstalling Snow Leopard, but before I try that I would like tro try something less radical. I would also delete the mouse .plist file, but I don't know where it is. I guess that probably would not help, as the cursor behaves crazy even in the login screen, so the user setting should not be the problem.
I've come to the conclusion, that the problem is not a hardware one. The mouse cursor snaps to point on the screen when I use: 1) a Kensington Expert Mouse, 2) a Magic Trackpad, 3) the Magic Mouse that arrived with my computer and when I turned on 4) use keyboard as mouse. The problem also is not tied to a certain user because it appears 1) in the login screen, 2) my user account and 3) the sysop account. I can't figure out where to look for the problem or fix it.

    I give up.
I've tried everything I can think of, to fix the behavior of the mouse cursor. I've zapped the pram, I've fixed file permissions, I've removed all startup items, I've tried starting the computer in Safe Mode. No can do.
The mouse cursor snaps back to a position on the screen when I try to move it. This happens within a second, so I might be able to move the cursor half-way across the screen, but that's it. It doesn't matter how fast I move the mouse. The cursor is dysfunctional in the normal user account, the administrator account and in the login screen. It works perfectly fine in Safe Mode.
The mouse cursor misbehaves when using a USB track-ball, the Magic Trackpad or the keyboard with accessibility settings.
After advise received at this site, I tried booting up in Safe Mode and after that the cursor worked for a month or so, but the problem returned. I see no rhyme or reason why the problem appeared for the first place, or why it reappeared. I had originally had two pointing devices the track-ball and the Trackpad connected to my Mac Pro at the same time. After the problem first appeared, I removed the Trackpad. I returned it to use a day before the problem reappeared, but I don't know if that is the cause of the problem. The computer had worked perfectly fine for some months with two pointing devices before the problem appeared.
I've noticed that some other people have had the same problem. One had a feline related fix, which doesn't help me since I don't have a cat. Another fixed the problem by switching off the Internet, but that didn't help me.
What I now would like is to make an official bug-report, so that the problem could be fixed someday. I hope Apple is listening. I also plan to reinstall Snow Leopard (I have 10.6.7) next weekend. I had hoped to install a new OS only when Lion got out, but I don't seem to have much choice not. I can either simply reinstall or make a clean reinstall by erasing the disk in the process. I'd like to avoid reinstalling my programs, but I feel it is safer to wipe everything and start from scratch. Even then, I have no assurance this doesn't happen again.
